Belgium Jupiler Pro League Rating Predictions

1. Introduction

Hi, I’ve not done a major rating prediction yet so I thought I’d give the Belgium Jupiler League a go. I've used a similar format to Philippe Nguyen's French ratings thread. Rather than retype league tables I’ve used images taken from a well known website to all you scouts!! My ratings predictions are based on the stats from the same site.

The Belgium ratings review is in section five of the main schedule, today (7th Feb) we are in section two.

The Jupiler League currently has 18 teams, but is changing to a 16 from next season. The bottom 2 teams will be relegated with 15th and 16th placed teams entering a play off with the 2nd and 3rd from the 2nd division for one place in the Jupiler League 2009/2010 season, the other place will be taken by the champions of division two.

The Jupiler League is currently ranked 13th in UEFA’s Coefficient ranking table, dropping a place from last season due to the Turkish Super Lig rising from 14th to 11th.

The highest SM ranking in the Jupiler league is 89, there are 3 players with this rating.

Last season the following teams qualified for this seasons European competitions:-

Standard Liege (Failed to qualify for Champions League group stages, finished top of UEFA Cup group C, due to play Braga in last 32)

Anderlecht (Failed to get past Champions League 2nd qualifying round)

Club Brugge (Knocked out of UEFA group stage, 0 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss)

Germinal Beerschot (Knocked out of Intertoto cup)

Gent (Knocked out of UEFA cup in 2nd qualifying round)

Re: Belgium Jupiler Pro League Rating Predictions

Overview of the season so far

Standard Liege are currently five points clear at the top of the league, but they have played two more games than Anderlecht so could drop to second by one point depending on Anderlecht’s results.

They are the current champions and this earned them a place in the Champions League third qualifying round. They played extremely well against Liverpool, but lost 1 – 0 over two legs.

Standard sold Marouane Fellaini, who many regarded as their best player last season, to Everton, who they coincidently played in the 1st round of the UEFA Cup. Standard won 4-3 on aggregate putting in two more notable performances.

In the UEFA Cup group stage Standard finished top of the group, winning three and losing one. The results were:-

Standard 1 – 0 Sevilla

Partizan 0 – 1 Standard

Match report:-

Standard 3 – 0 Sampdoria

Match report:-

Stuttgart 3 – 0 Standard

Match report:-
http://www.uefa.com/competitions/uef...245/index.html

Standard will play Braga of Portugal in the next knock out stage.

Standard have the joint best defensive record in the league but have conceded 19 goals, they have also conceded 7 goals in Europe - 1 to Liverpool, 3 to Everton and 3 to Stuttgart.

Standard have scored 39 league goals, 8 less than Anderlecht and they have played 2 more games. They have 9 european goals, 4 over 2 legs against Everton and 5 in 3 group stage matches, losing the 4th 3 – 0.

There top scorer is Mbokani who has 12 league goals in 17 league games and 2 european goals in 6 UEFA cup games.

IMO Standard are the only team in Belgium with a chance of having a 90 rated player by the end of the season, but they would have to keep going in the UEFA cup and push for the league title.

Re: Belgium Jupiler Pro League Rating Predictions

Overview of the season so far

Anderlecht finished 2nd in the Jupiler league last season, 7 points behind Standard Liege. They lost to FC BATE in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League, which meant they didn’t qualify to enter the UEFA Cup.

Anderlecht were also knocked out of the Belgium Cup, losing 2-1 to KV Mechelen in the quarter final.

In the league, Anderlecht are in a strong position, they are 2nd but have played less games than the league leaders, Standard Liege. Anderlecht have so far had mixed results against the top six, winning three (against; Cercle Brugge, Genk and Westerlo), drawing two (against; Gent and Club Brugge) and losing two (against; Standard and Cercle Brugge).

Their current top scorer is Guillaume Gillet with 8 goals.

With Anderlecht failing to qualify for any European competitions and maintaining the standard set last season it may be difficult to justify rating increases for established players.

I've just posted my predictions for Standard Liege, what does everyone think? I know SM have gone a bit conservative and I've tried to be realistic with my increases.

Also, what does everyone think of the extra information I wrote up? - the league overview and Standard's season so far...

Re: Belgium Jupiler Pro League Rating Predictions

Very nice thread, good layout, most ratings seem farely correct.
There is only one (major) thing you forgot when predicting ratings:

Some players transferred in the winter and their stats from the previous club do not show on Guardian in the main page of a team.

For instance: De Sutter played almost every game this season, most of them were with Cercle Brugge before moving ot Anderlecht.
Therefore, he won't drop with 2 but most likely rise with 1 or 2
