  1. GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion

So far so good back at Mansfield. Managed to go on a great unbeaten run and beat Barnsley to the Division 4 title on the last day of the season. The capacity of Field Mill remains at the increased level it had been changed too during my previous reign at the club & the crowds are slowly coming back. I'm aiming to sign 3 or 4 players to fill the squad ready for an assualt on Division 3 next season.
  2. The first round of league games take place tonight, two other managers have joined taking control of Morpeth Town & Stockport County, I'm managing Bishop Auckland. Hope some of you may be tempted to join in.
  3. GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion

After a 9 Season absence I've taken over Mansfield again. Since I departed the Stags they've dropped down to Division 4 and have sold all of the players I'd bought to the club, so the squad is basic but the bank balance is healthy. The only remaining effect of my previous stint at the is that the capacity of Field Mill remains at 24,000. Mansfield after 18 games of season 22 are currently sat in 6th place in the league & are only 7 points off the top two, so I'm going to be aiming for promotion this season & hopefully getting the Stags back up to Div 1 as soon as possible.
  4. Hi all Non League English Championship - ID 373033 3 Divisions of 14 teams (picked at random from the various levels of the English non league system), all teams start with no players & a budget of £30m. No signing players rated over 80 & no cash deals over £2m. The first league games are on 12 November. Cheers Dom

Re: GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion Season 12 finished last night. We finished 7th to qualify for the SMFA Shield again, but it feels like we're treading water, which isn't a bad thing really of course I'd love to be able to grab a top 4 finish but we simply haven't got the quality in depth to maintain our better periods of form for a whole season at present. As long as we keep up our top 8 finishes I'll be happy really. I'd forgotten that winning the cup meant we had qualified for the SMFA Shield, however we crashed out in round 2 against Real Betis, we also got knocked out of both domestic cups in the 2nd round which was dissapointing. I've already made a couple of moves in the transfer market for next season, one of the deals will see Joey Barton who's been club captain for the last 8 seasons depart the club, he's been a good player for us but I'm convinced his rating is going to drop. The squad has swolen to above 30 1st team players & we haven't really got the finances to sustain that so I intend to sell off our fringe players to boost the clubs bank balance. Anyway roll on Season 13
  6. GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion

Re: GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion Season 11 has just finished, my 7th in charge of the Stags & I've finally landed the Club it's first Top Tier Trophy - after a penalty shoot-out victory against Everton the English Cup is taking pride of place in the Field Mill trophy cabinet. As for the league it was another fairly decent season that saw us top the table for a couple of weeks early on, however after that bright start we didn't really have any consistent form and ended up missing out on the SMFA Shield places losing on the last day to finish 9th our worst position in the top flight to date. Our best result in the league was an 8-3 thrashing of Leeds at Elland Road. In the SMFA Shield we went out in the 3rd round to Marseille , after a decent 0-0 draw in the away leg we fell apart at home & lost 5-3. It's going to be a shame to have no SMFA Shield games this season but hopefully that'll help us to be more consistent in the league, so we can be back in SMFA action come season 13. It's been a decent season for risers & I now have 2 88 rated players in my team Filip Djuric (signed for £500k when rated 75 in my first season in charge) & Heung-Min Son (signed for £325k when rated 75 in my second season). I've also managed to sign a couple of 87 rated players who've given the 1st team a solid base. The Bank balance is looking reasonable & should enable me to sign a few new youngsters. I don't think the ground will get extended anymore the 24,055 capacity we have now seems to be enough. Anyway roll on Season 12!
  7. GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion

Re: GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion Well another 5 months pass & another season finishes in GC52. I can happily report that once again Mansfield have exceeded expectations & easily avoided the drop. After a rotten run of form in the league of 9 games without a win, we picked up a last day victory at West Ham which saw us finish in 7th place & ensure that we'd see SMFA Shield action at Field Mill again next season. Before the wretched run in the league we'd been on course for a 4th or 5th placed finish, to be fair the fallout in the league had a lot to do with our progress in the SMFA Shield as I had to send out the reserves in the league on a fair few occassions. In the SMFA Shield I'm proud to say we managed to reach the final, which we lost unfortunately (1-0) against a strong Sevilla side - but it was a pleasing run & the clubs finances have never been healthier. If anyone who happens to read this is interested my full strength Mansfield team have an average rating of 86 & no players rated over 87.

Re: The Official Npower Championship Thread Well we've signed two defenders Danny Collins & Greg Halford from Stoke & Pompey respectively. O'Driscoll said in his press conference the other day he was hoping to sign 6 defenders so only 4 more to go!.

Re: The Official Npower Championship Thread http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18961761 Guediora signed from Wolves subject to medical. Ok not a defender - but happy with this signing all the same, highly influential in keeping us up last season & with Cohen back from injury that's a pretty solid central midfield pairing in the making, especially with Moussi for cover.
  10. Official Sky Bet Championship Thread

Re: The Official Npower Championship Thread @ Jonaldinho - I know, however prior to being appointed by Crawley he was working on our coaching staff alongside Cotterill & his place on the coaching staff did lead to us actually playing something resembling football towards the end of the season rather than Cotterill's favoured hoofball & McLaren's total mess. I know he isn't an iconic name, but I don't particularly think any of those "iconic" names linked would have really been a better appointment. Most Forest supporters seemingly were clamouring for Davies to come back & although I'm still of the opinion he should never have been sacked in the first place, I just don't think it would have worked out well. I remain very sceptical about the new owners - who we manage to sign in the next few weeks will tell us how legit they are & if it is really up to the manager who signs. The rumour mill suggests ex Forest players Jenas & Kelvin Wilson coming in - neither of which I see happening, & McGugan being sold to Leeds which I hope doesn't happen!. If it does turn out to be a summer of decent players leaving & only kuwaiti trialists coming in then I'd argue they're worse than Venky's!.

Re: The Official Npower Championship Thread Happy with O'Driscoll. Just hope these new owners now back him financially because we need a whole new back 4 asap!.
  12. GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion

Re: GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion 5 Months on from my last post the season has finished tonight & I can happily report I kept Mansfield up. In fact we did way better then just staying up, we finished in 6th place with only the top 2 having lost fewer games, & currently on a run of 15 Div 1 games unbeaten. The main reason for our success has been our superb away form, with 13 wins, including victories at Spurs, Arsenal (who we did the double over), Man Utd, & our biggest win of the season a 7-0 thrashing of Forest. The stadium expansion helped keep the finances from going into the red & the £5m prize money will be spent wisely. I'm hoping the fact that we've finished so high in the table & will be playing in an SMFA competition next season will mean that the board decide to increase the capacity again!. Next season the priority will be the same as this to avoid relegation. I don't think we'll manage a 6th place finish again, but a top half finish would be great.
  13. GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion

Re: GC52 - Match Reports/Discussion Despite a defeat at Burnley, Southampton (already the Div 2 Champions) did me a huge favour & beat 3rd placed Portsmouth, which ensured that my team Mansfield Town have clinched automatic promotion to Div 1. Which means that tonight I've achieved my goal in guiding Mansfield Town from Div 5 to Div 1:). It's taken 5 seasons (a defeat in the div 3 play-offs halting our progress along the way) & some careful balancing of the books (hopefully the stadium capacity will get extended again for next season in the top flight), taking a punt on some unknown players who proved to be great risers (Dossevi & Pizzi in particular), making the loan signings count, especially this season when i waited until the last couple of weeks to bring loanees in, a tactic which worked very well with Kleber (on loan from Real Madrid) scoring the goals which saw us win the crucial game against Portsmouth & put us 4 points clear of them with 3 games to go. The next challenge will be to try & keep the Stags in the top flight next season!
