Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread
Wigan Safe!

Confined to the relegation zone for a large part of the season, everyone assumed that he would be going down with his friend James Burrow, whose great work at Presron was going frustratingly fruiteless.
Nevertheless,Austins agenda was to save the Latics from releagtion, and 2 games to go, sitting deep in 18th place, he got his wish granted.
With Liverpool away and Manuinited home for their last 2 games, and with Preston on some fine form, Wigan were all but written off.
Wigan changed to a hard 4 - 5 - 1 defensive and changed everything to defensive tactics and scenarios, and went to Anfield bizzarely confident.
The Reds were crowned champions of England, winning the league and FA Cup, and they sought to finish the season on a high, hoping for a high scoring win over relegation candidates Wigan.
They did need the win though, as Southampton were just one point behind....
The game started with the expected Liverpool goal, and confidence was high as the hosts looked for more, but a remarkable comeback would soon take place.
A long ball from the keeper caught Gekas in the middle of the penalty area, and he punished the linesman by scoring the miles wide offside goal.
1 - 1, and he grabbed his second early in the second half, a Hleb ground cross finding him free.
Then a specatular shot from Ballack went straight in.....3 - 1, and the 2 wigan fans watching hugged and kissed each other like the gays they were...
Morale was up, but the team needed one more win to cement their place in the division, and the match came at home to start studded United.
The match started unbeleivably, 3 quick fire goals paving the way for a romping of United, but some great saves by the keeper stopped the rout, and a compensation goal gave the game a more respecatble scoreline.
Wigan was safe, and the manager was overjoyed, the fans made a ***** video, and the 3 relegated teams clawed each other at their losses, but as all the dust cleared...Wigan lived to fight another day...or more accurately, another season

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread
Brighton signed David Luiz Young brazilian CB.
Manager Hugo Santos said:
i've no doubt this boy will be in brazil's national team. This is a signing requested by me last year. As you all know we are a club with very limited resourses, but we never give up the fight.
This year just missing out on the playoffs was heart breaking for the everybody involved but to be honest it was a young team and we did have a great season.
For the forthcoming season we plan to maintain our base and built for the future , see where this season can takes us. Good luck to everybody in this new season.
well done Dave.

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread
Preston avoid unwanted First-Round ties
Preston have avoided playing anyone in the First round of both the English Cup and English Shield. The Lancashire side went out in the First round of both cups last season when they were also relegated. The stand-out tie in the English Cup First Round is Charlton vs Watford, where experienced manager Dean Bryant meets new manager Kevin Heaton. Rotherham also have a home tie against Div 1 side West Ham, and Tranmere face a tough visit to Brentford.
In the English Shield, Millwall face a trip to Cheltenham in an all-Div 2 tie, and Division 1 title favourites Southampton and Darlington square up at St. Marys.
English Cup - First Round - Selected Ties
Rotherham United - West Ham United
Portsmouth - Hull City
Northampton Town - Leicester City
Manchester City - Birmingham City
Barnsley - Stoke City
Charlton Athletic - Watford
Middlesbrough - Scunthorpe United
Brentford - Tranmere Rovers
Luton Town - Port Vale
Sheffield Wednesday - Oxford United
Leyton Orient - Arsenal
English Shield - First Round - Selected Ties
Leyton Orient - Yeovil Town
Walsall - Luton Town
Southampton - Darlington
Leicester City - Rochdale
Watford - Tottenham Hotspur
Doncaster Rovers - Boston United
Cheltenham Town - Millwall
Huddersfield Town - Burnley
Cardiff City - Bristol Rovers
Newcastle United - Bolton Wanderers

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread
Middlesbrough make players available for Loan
Middlesbrough have made 6 players available for loan
Adrian Martinez (87) the 39y/o goalkeeper has not yet played for Middlesbrough since joining last season but played well in 8 games for Grimsby while on loan last season
Daniel Alvaro Pereira a recent signing at the club the 87 rated LB/LM looks to have a very bright future at Middlesbrough but in the mean time he is being sent on loan for some valuable exspiriance in the English league (On Loan at Ipswich)
Dietmar Hamann (88) the 35y/o veteren has found first team football at Middlesbrough hard to come by only making 5 apearences last season and is exspected to leave the club at some point this season especally with the arrival of Baris Ozbek(On Loan at Tranmere)
Roberto Cunha Edno (87) another fairly recent signing and another from South America who will be given the chance to acclimatise to football in England with a loan spell (On Loan at Crewe)
Pereira Alex Mineiro (88) has found first team football hard to come by as well brought in as cover for Rosenberg earlier in the season but with the additions of Zaki and Farias has found himself sliping down the pecking order (On loan at Luton Town)
Leroy Lita brought in towards the end of last season and played well in his 2 appearences in a Middlesbrough shirt and could well be a regular in the middlesbrough squad in a couple of seasons
All players are available for season long loans players can play in cup matches as long as they are not against Middlesbrough and they cant play against Middlesbrough in Division 2 either
