I'd look at lowering the age of the team (you have some golden oldies in there). 4-2-4 is a formation I avoid, I've never been able to do well with it. I like to stick to more traditional formations like 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. But, I don't think that formations and tactics make that much difference to results as long as you avoid the less traditional ones. I like to change the point of my attack (through middle, mixed, both flanks) in a game in response to losing at 60 or 75 mins. I always use 3 subs per game to keep players fit and to give enough of them sufficient game time. It's only possible to keep 17-18 first team (your highest skill point players) happy with enough game time. Having a massive squad will only result in players developing concerns if they are first team capable (88 skill + depending on your average team rating).
