Stoke City have finally completed their transfer business. Not one player is left from the original team. This is how my lineup now looks:
    Sommer (88)
    Jantschke (88)
    Ginter (86)
    Papadopolous (89)
    Digne (88)
    Grenier (87)
    Pjanic (90)
    Shaqiri (89)
    Isco (90)
    Draxler (88)
    El Sharaawy (89)
I've decided to go with a very young team which may struggle at first but by keeping them together we can hopefully see them mature into a force.

Arsenal's relegation means we are having a clearout sale. Puyol, Cole, Dani Alves, Maxi Pereira, Lampard, Kaka and Villa are all available for P/E. Looking to getting in younger players so get your bids in.
BTW, thanks for the nice comments guys. I've neglected the team recently due to school among other stuff but i'm looking to rebuild now
Bids for Ronaldo will also be considered

Arsenal have all but completed their transfer activities before the start of the new season. Team is as follows:
    Buffon
    Ramos
    Mertesacker
    Vermaelen
    Marcelo
    Moutinho
    Wilshere
    Cazorla
    Kroos
    Reus
    Lewandowski
Pleased with my dealings even though I missed out on Falcao, Lahm, Alba etc. Other notable signings include Lamela, Koke and Dennis Praet

They probably will. OKC, Lakers, Spurs are all definitely better. They or the Clippers should grab the no. 4 seed. But come playoff time, I reckon they have the ability to beat anyone if everyone is healthy

New Era Starts With a Win
The new Championship season started with a bang as Blackpool and Ipswich played out a thriller. The topsy-turvy match finished 3-2 in the favour of the newly taken over away side.
The game seemed to start with a bang as Guirane N'Daw slipped Reyes through and he finished with aplomb but his celebrations turned out to be extremely short lived as he turned round to see the linesman's flag.
Jonas had a few chances to put Ipswich in the lead while Mandzukic was looking increasingly threating for Blackpool in the opening twenty minutes. The match, though, settled down and became a midfield battle with both sides probing but neither finding a way through.
Just as it looked like the game would reach half-time all square, a freak event sparked things into life. Young RB, Tony Jantschke was forced into returning the ball to his goalkeeper and as Handanovic went to smash the ball downfield, a horrible bobble took the ball over his foot and into the net.
This seemed to spark the home side into action and they equalised just a minute before half-time as strikers Bas Dost and Mario Mandzukic combined and the latter's shot sneaked in.
The hosts carried this momentum into the break and came out all guns blazing as just seconds into the 2nd period, Mandzukic doubled his tally after Menez whipped in a free-kick and the Croat headed in off the post.
The game, however, seemed to take another twist on the hour mark, as Ipswich made a double substitution as Rickie Lambert and Abdel Barrad replaced Yevhen Khacheridi and N'Daw. Just 2 minutes later the Tractor Boys equalised. Lambert was fouled, and after spotting Handanovic out of position, struck an opportunistic free-kick which flew in.
The match seemed to be petering out when, with just five minutes left, Ipswich struck again. Isaac Cuenca picked the ball up on the wing, and after beating a defender struck his shot past the keeper.
That was the last meaningful action of the game as Ipswich held on to a hard earned three points.

    New Era at Portman Road
A new season brings about a new beginning at Portman Road as the 2012-13 season heralds the beginning of a new era at the Suffolk club. The club were taken over by Snoop Dogg, in what was one of the most shocking news stories to break in the summer. The new owner's first job was to appoint a director of football to deal with the football operations of the club. The man chosen for the job was former Arsenal skipper Tony Adams.
The new DoF's first job was to appoint new boss Arsene Wenger Jr. The manager's real name is unknown but as he has patented his game on the accomplished Frenchman, the name has stuck. With this appointment, the new era had well and truly begun.
The new boss' first action at the new club was to put every player at the club up for sale. This was a drastic measure but it showed that the revolution at Ipswich was not a joke. As the summer went on more and more players departed. This left a huge rebuilding job which the manager immediately got on with.
    The boss said:
The new signings were plentiful. The major signings were of former Arsenal and Sevilla winger Jose Antonio Reyes, Valencia forward Jonas and young Barcelona starlet Isaac Cuenca.

The Spaniards should spearhead the new movement
Experience has also been bought in, in the form of Paulo Cannavaro from Napoli, Maxwell from PSG and Roman Shirokov from Zenit. The new manager believes the mix of youth and experience will stand his side in good stead for the upcoming Championship season.
One source of discomfort for the club's supporters was the fact that there were not many English players or those with Championship experience. The manager had this to say on the issue:
He also had this to say on his aims for the new season:The season starts with a visit to Bloomfield Road to play Blackpool. Whatever happens this should be an interesting season for Ipswich fans.

Reading secure promotion to Div 2. My strike pairing did the damage with 2 goals from Fabio Borini and the 3rd from Alvaro Vazquez. Zarate pulled one back for Southampton but it was only a consolation. Looking forward to next season to see how we do in Div 2.

    WEEE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!
A 2-1 win for the Baggies seals the championship as we come from behind to beat Blackburn at Ewood Park. Gameiro had put Blackburn in the lead early on and Kerzhakov's goal for Blackpool at the Stadium of Light meant that as it stood the title would be heading to Bloomfield Road. Things changed, however with a quarter of the games remaining as quickfire goals from Misimovic and Prieto meant that whatever the result at Ewood the title would be ours. As news filtered through of events up North the Baggies really let loose and goals from Kallstrom and Quagliarella meant we ended the season with the most unlikely of championships.

    Arsenal 11-2 Oldham Athletic
My biggest ever win in SM. Great performance by everyone of my 2nd team. Piatti hit 4, Adrian got himself a hat-trick, Gibbs picked up a brace and there was a solitary strike from both Walcott and Eriksen. Only blemish was that Alvaro Pereira picked up a knock. Unlucky Oldham boss.

West Brom's next 3 games will almost certainly make or break my season. Come out unscathed after games against Everton and Liverpool at the Hawthorns either side of a visit to Old Trafford and I will be hot favourite for the title. But if I should falter, I do not even want to think about the consequences.

    Mid-Season Report

    1. Millwall.
Who would have thought this Millwall team would be top at the halfway point? They were running away with it at one point, but now their lead has been cut to 1 point. They keep it reasonably tight at the back & this allows players such as Adriano, who was top scorer for a long while, to run riot & get goals.
Highlight of the season - Being top of the league for so long.
Low point of the season - Seeing star striker Adriano leaving for Corinthians.
Key player - Orlando Engelaar. He really gets the team ticking in the heart of the midfield.
    2. Leicester.
The Foxes have been free-scoring & have bagged 57 goals already this campaign. Despite them having scored so many they still don't have a player in double figures but I'm sure that will come soon. They are very well supported & boast the second biggest average attendance in the league. They have been chomping at the bit at the leaders & are now on 41 points, 1 behind Millwall.
Highlight of the season - Thumping Coventry 9-1 at the King Prawn Stadium.
Low point of the season - Losing the first 3 league games.
Key player - Jefferson Montero. He's been involved in 18 goals so far for Leicester.
    3. Leeds
Although being in the top 6 for most of the season, Leeds manager Aaron still made massive changes in preparation of the second half of the season. The biggest surprise is perhaps the decision to let striker & top scorer Alvaro Negredo leave after scoring 10 goals in the league. But in saying all that, the team has definitely improved & they can really push on for the last 23 games.
Highlight of the season - Winning the inaugural Founder's Cup.
Low point of the season - Losing to his brother 2-1 at the Riverside.
Key player - Salomon Kalou. The winger-come-striker has the ability to play at a higher level & will no doubt get goals in this league.
    4. Crystal Palace
The Eagles have gained 37 points from their first 23 games. They haven't been too bad going forward, but in the back, conceding as they are won't see them in the top 6 for long. They have a desperately young squad but the recent acquisition of Michael Owen will no doubt help the youngsters gain experience. It looks like they'll have to outscore the opposition if they are to keep winning games.
Highlight of the season - Going 8 games unbeaten which saw them move through the table.
Low point of the season - Winning only 2 of their first 13 competitive games.
Key player - Michael Owen. He has experience of the highest level & if he can pass it on to the youngsters they could do well.
    5. Bristol City
The West Country outfit were riding high for quite sometime but have slipped into the play-off zone. They are still very unpredictable even though they are so high up. Like the team above them they have a small goal difference, but this time it's for not scoring enough goals. This has to be rectified as the pressure will no doubt be turned up in the coming weeks.
Highlight of the season - Being second in the season for a considerable period of time.
Low point of the season - Losing 7 of 9 games through late June/early July.
Key player - Borja Ezika. The young centre back has been their most consistent player so far with an average rating of 7.21.
    6. Preston
Since taking over as manager of the Deepdale club, Ben has transformed the club from relegation candidates to promotion hopefuls. They've been challenging all year but it could be the lack of depth that will hurt them come they end of the season. Maybe they need more players to chip in & score as they have only had 10 players who have scored in all competitions.
Highlight of the season - Just being in and around the play-offs will please the fans.
Low point of the season - Seeing Mark van Bommel being caught out on the lash the night before a game.
Key player - Mark van Bommel. Easily one of the best players in the league, he is the heartbeat of this Lilywhites team.
    7. Notts Forest
Forest are only 1 point off the play-offs & have enjoyed a meteoric rise through the league lately. They didn't start off too well, but thankfully for the fans, the side has put a great run together & now could really challenge. They have 3 players in the top 25 scorers so it shows they can score goals, I think it's the conceding that will trouble the manager.
Highlight of the season - Scoring 5 goals in a game twice in a week against Reading (5-1) & Watford (5-0).
Low point of the season - Losing 7 games on the bounce in June.
Key player - Santi Cazorla. The little Spaniard has obvious quality & will help pull his team through despite them having one the smallest squads in the league.
    8. Cardiff
The Bluebirds started off horribly as the flirted with the relegation spots for the first few weeks. Key signing Bojan was meant to shine but instead he flopped & it was down to Craig Bellamy & loanee Jermaine Beckford to show the way. Since Beckford's arrival the team have picked up & now are eyeing up promotion as a real goal. New signings Darren Bent & John O'Shea give them a Premiership feel about them & they are my pick to push on after a poor first 10 games or so. It could well be worth noting that they are the form team & this might be a great advantage to have as they go into the second half of the season.
Highlight of the season - Beating Swansea 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium.
Low point of the season - Being in 20th place during the early stages of the season.
Key player - Craig Bellamy. The homegrown hero who grew up in the Capital & has become the Bluebirds most consistent player.
    9. Sheff Utd
The Yorkshire outfit sit in 9th place at the halfway mark after amassing 34 points. The Blades are now managed by Scotsman Dan Malone who is in charge of his third club in this set-up. Despite managing rivals Wednesday the fans were delighted he chose to step up a level to manage them as he has bags of experience & plenty of knowhow. In playing terms they've been in & around the playoffs all season & have a rocksolid back line including Ivorian Kolo Toure.
Highlight of the season - Their manager jumping ship to manage their side.
Low point of the season - Being dumped out of the Shield by lowly Exeter.
Key player - Romelu Lukaku. The young Belgian striker is the top scorer & has massive potential as he has all the attributes required to make it big.
    10. Ipswich
Ipswich are one of those inconsistent sides & if they hold a run together they too can challenge. They did receive the blow of the manager leaving & this might see them slip down the table in the next few weeks.
Highlight of the season - Thrashing Doncaster 6-1.
Low point of the season - Seeing their manager leave midway through the season.
Key player - Shinji Kagawa. A good player, but needs to step up in order for this Ipswich side to succeed.
    11. Boro
Not quite sure why Boro are where they are. Their manager has a good record of getting thing in tip-top shape but much like his brother, has had a massive re-shuffle of his pack. The signings brought in have been very good & this shows Ashh's prowess in the market. If this team get's a few results on the bounce they'll have no problem in pushing on through the table.
Highlight of the season - Coming from behind to beat his brother.
Low point of the season - Slipping down the table.
Key player - Stefan Keissling. He's the only CF at the club so the pressure's on for him to score.
    12. Derby
Tom was building a nice little team at Derby however when a club like Chelsea come calling the opportunity is too big to turn down. However, in The Skies there is fresh optimism at the club & belief is back, that the Rams can challenge for a competitive top half finish.
Highlight of the season - Beating Midlands rivals Coventry 5-1.
Low point of the season - Losing their manager to a top team.
Key player - Dirk Kuyt. he has the potential to score goals at the highest level, so should definitely get into double figures before the season ends.
    13. Swansea
In Rob, the Jacks have a good manager who will get them playing football his way. One advantage for them is that they have a much bigger squad than most & this could be key when there are 3 games a week again. The second batch of signings will be key but Saturday proved they more than hold their own against some of the league's best.
Highlight of the season - Seeing Andrei Arshavin score 4 on his debut.
Low point of the season - Getting turned over on their own patch by rivals Cardiff.
Key player - Andrei Arshavin. His goals could fire them to a playoff place.
    14. Hull
Hull have been lingering in mid-table mediocrity for most of the season but can still nick a play-off place. Taking into consideration of where they are, they are shipping far too many goals. If they hadn't conceded so many, they might well be higher.
Highlight of the season - Scoring in every game but 1 until 25 June.
Low point of the season - Failing to win a game between 22 June to 23 July.
Key player - Cesare Bovo. He has to step up & marshall the defence around him better & help stop conceding so many goals.
    15. QPR
Moneybags QPR started off well but are faltering & need to stop the rot. They are still able to reach the playoffs but its unlikely. They are lacking a focal point in attack for them or they will continue to slide away into the abyss.
Highlight of the season - Going unbeaten for the first 9 games.
Low point of the season - The realisation that the squad is very, very old.
Key player - David Beckham. He'll get a few goals from set pieces & looks quite young compared to some members of the side.
    16. Portsmouth
Pompey started off very well with a surprise win away at Cardiff. However, since then they have fallen away from the pack & are now in 16th place. Their first team squad is bigger than most which is a good thing, but is quantity better than quality?
Highlight of the season - Beating Swansea (3-0) & Leeds (1-0) in consecutive games.
Low point of the season - Getting battered by Derby 6-1 away at Pride Park.
Key player - Hugo Ventura. The young keeper isn't the best in the division & if he fails to play well, they could struggle.
    17. Norwich
When JR took over at the helm when the season began, many tipped this side for promotion. Unfortunately for Canaries fans, JR left & since then they really have dwindled. They might be starting to pick up again and a top half finish would be respectable.
Highlight of the season - Getting through to the 5th round of the Shield to face Liverpool.
Low point of the season - Failing to win in the first 6 games.
Key player - Rene Adler. He's a top quality keeper & the German no 1. He will save them points this year, no doubt about it.
    18. Reading
Hammer made a statement of intent before the season started by signing Jay Bothroyd from Cardiff. Their goal difference is a massive disadvantage & they need to improve it as that could hurt them come the end of the season. the whole Connor Wickham saga was a big distraction & this could be why they have fallen.
Highlight of the season - Getting off to a decent start.
Low point of the season - Losing 7-1 at Bramall Lane to Sheff Utd.
Key player - Frederic Kanoute. The veteran striker can still get goals at this level.
    19. Burnley
Top of the mini-table at the bottom but dangerously close to the drop zone. The first 11 there is quite strong but overall the squad isn't the greatest. They didn't start off too badly but have gone downhill & quick. They need to stop the rot.
Highlight of the season - Sitting near the top after 3 games.
Low point of the season - Winning only 1 game between 4 June & 23 July.
Key player - Miralem Sulejmani. Has the ability to score, but hasn't got running yet.
    20. Barnsley
I thought they'd be down there & they haven't proved me wrong. They've got just over a point a game & are conceding too many. They didn't get off to the greatest start so it was always an uphill task from the start.
Highlight of the season - Scoring every game until 18 June.
Low point of the season - Getting creamed 7-2 by Leicester.
Key player - Alessandro Matri. He's got 9 goals so far, but can't do it on his own.
    21. Shorpe
Riece's Shorpe were punching well above their weight after 10 games but a recent capitulation has seen them slide to 1 place above the drop zone. They have a small stadium but it's packed most weeks & can create a great atmosphere that can scare away teams. They have lost 7 on the bounce though & this has to be changed. And quick.
Highlight of the season - Sitting pretty in mid-table for a while.
Low point of the season - The recent run of losses.
Key man - Victor Obinna. The Nigerian has been going goal crazy despite his team's predicament.
    22. Doncaster
Considering Donny are in the bottom 3, their goal difference is very good. They started off horribly but finally got some transfers done & now might hit the top half. They have now gotten some transfers done going into the second half of the season which could be key. However, it will be a mighty struggle for them I think.
Highlight of the season - Beating Swansea 5-1, it shows that they can do it.
Low point of the season - Failing to win a game between 1 June & 9 July.
Key player - Amauri. The striker isn't getting any younger & needs tto start being more prolific.
    23. Coventry
Coventry have gained less than a point a game in their opening half of the season. They have a good starting 11, but as a squad, they look like they could be going down. Goals are the problem & they just don't score enough.
Highlight of the season - Beating bottom side Watford 3-0.
Low point of the season - Being beaten 9-1 by Leicester.
Key player - Gianluigi Buffon. The world class keeper won't want to ply his trade on the 3rd tier of English football, so will do his utmost to keep his side up.
    24. Watford
The divisions bottom side are already 6 points from safety & it could be a long second half of the year for them. The first team is very young with a large youth team to boot, but for this year, it won't be enough & it will take a miracle to save them.
Highlight of the season - Going on a 5 game win streak in June.
Low point of the season - Being rooted to the bottom.
Key player - Miroslav Klose. Deadly marksman who, with the right service, will garuntee goals.
    Players to watch!

Romelu Lukaku. The young striker is the top scorer so far & can only get more this year.

Michael Owen. The evergreen striker has joined Palace recently & could fire them to promotion.

Craig Bellamy. The Bluebirds striker has been pivotal to their charge up the table & looks better than ever. He's also got the most amount of assists in the league.

& there we have it folks. The first half of the season has been completed, who will reign supreme in the world's toughest league to get out of? Who will beat the drop? As of yet, no-one knows, but one thing is for certain. There'll be plenty of twists & turns along the way.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!! My result coupled with Leicester's failure to win at home to Bristol City means the Tigers reach the promised land. I went behind early on to a Kenwyne Jones strike but a double from Totti and a goal from Pjanic gave us the win. Over at the Walkers Jordi Alba's early goal ended Leicester's automatic promotion hopes even though Aguero equalised for Kari late on. There was also late drama as Dimitar Berbatov hit the woodwork twice in the last 3 minutes and had any of those gone in Kari would be celebrating in my place. What an amazing night.

Bolton prove Fulhams' nemeses yet again
    Bolton Wanderers 4-1 Fulham
Bolton welcomed Fulham to the Reebok on the back of a good draw at White Hart Lane and after a solid if unspectacular start to the season. Fulham were looking to bounce back after 3-1 home defeat to West Ham. Fulham made a single change to that side as Danny replaced Krasic playing in the hole of manager Latouche's recent 4-2-3-1 formation. Bolton boss, Said Sharif, changed from a 5-3-2 to a 3-5-2 for this game. This meant a place in the side for Miroslav Klose at the expense of Nicolas Pareja.
The match started with a bang as for the second time this season Arjen Robben scored in the first minute of a game. He skipped inside Adriano and curled a beauty into the top corner.

Robben celebrated his first minute goal by gesturing "No 1" to the camera
Fulham almost hit back instantly as Nicolas Anelka had two shots in quick succession saved by Victor Valdes in the Trotters goal. The game then turned into a midfield battle in the next 20 minutes but the game almost burst back into life on 24 minutes when Perotti put Bent through and he chipped Ochoa but the ball came back off the crossbar and into the Mexican's hands.
The midfield battle then resumed until the 42nd minute when Fulham equalised with a goal from Guillermo Ochoa. (Not sure how to report on that.) The hosts almost retook the lead even before the half-time whistle as Alan Dzagiev hit a rocket which dipped and swerved and smashed against the bar. That was how the half ended and the two sides went in all square.
The second half started with Fulham on the front foot as first Anelka in the 49th minute and then Pedro in the 58th minte tested ex-Barca keeper Valdes from distance but he was equal to the task. On the hour mark Bolton made a change as Diego Perotti was replaced by Nicolas Pareja. The move may have seemed strange but Mr. Sharif was vindicated as his switch to a 4-2-3-1 to match Fulham paid off immediately as Joao Miranda stepped out of the backline to collect a pass from Robben and he hammered the ball into the bottom corner.

The Brazilian scored at a crucial time

As Fulham looked to get back in it, Latouche sent more and more players forward but although the approach play from Pedro and Danny was top class, they always lacked the final pass or shot. As time ticked down the Fulham players got more and more anxious and as they went forward in drones huge gaps were left for Bolton and in particular Walcott and Robben to exploit. The pace of these two put the game beyond doubt.
Firstly Robben went on one of his trademark slaloming runs before dinking the ball to the back post where Theo Walcott arrived on point and headed powerfully into the corner.

Walcott turned provider just two minutes later as he left Mathieu Debuchy for dead and rolled the ball along the six yard line for Miroslav Klose to tap in. Valdes still had to make a save from Pedro at the end of the game. As the whistle blew Bolton were happy with a fine performance and a fine win.

Bolton come crashing back down to Earth as Champions show their class
    Bolton Wanderers 1-2 Manchester United
After a barnstorming win at the Riverside on Saturday, Bolton were confident of causing an upset against the Champions at the Reebok but it was not to be. Both teams made a single change from their opening day victories as Bolton were without Johnny Heitinga due to injury and he was replaced by Nicolas Pareja. On the other side, Wayne Rooney was back in the line-up to relace Alberto Gilardino.
The game started cagily but the first chance fell to the home team as a shot from Arjen Robben crashed back off Julio Cesar's crossbar and the keeper had to be alert to stop Darren Bent's shot on the rebound. Diego Perotti was the next to have a go but he couldn't hit the target. Perotti then had a better effort just a minute later but this time Cesar was in his way. 7 minutes later Julio Cesar stopped Bolton again and this time it was Robben whose goalbound shot was expertly stopped by the Brazilian international. At this moment it looked as if a Bolton goal was looming but then the Champions woke up.
First Xabi Alonso hit a thunderous shot which had Victor Valdes at full stretch. Then on the half hour mark the Spaniard stopped Rooney's shot from close range. Finally the tempo of the game slowed down and just when it looked like we were going to get to half-time all square, Jesus Navas struck. Rooney went on a barnsorming run and teh Bolton defence failed to clear adequately after he lost the ball. The loose ball was smashed into the net by the World Cup-winning midfielder. That was the last action of the half.

    Wing wizard celebrates his goal
United started the second half just as they ended the first as a wonderful team move ended with Rooney slipping Schweinsteiger through and he finished expertly.

Schweini put the champions in control
At that moment it looked as if Man United were going to run away with it but Darren Bent got a consolation which was too little too late as the Champions made it two out of two.

Barnstormer at the Riverside as Bolton bag 3 Points
    Middlesborough 2-3 Bolton Wanderers

The new season started with a bang! after a wonderful game of football at the Riverside. Last season's 4th placed Middlesborough took on the team whose last day victory over Dom's Fulham outfit handed the last Champions League spot to Jooles' boys. This game was a rematch of Wednesday's friendly when Middlesborough ran out comfortable 3-0 winners but that was not to be the case this time.
Bolton Manager, Said Sharif, knew he had to change something following that defeat but he sprang a surprise nobody could have envisaged. The new boss, starting his first full season at the club, deviated away from his tried and tested 3-5-2 formation and went with an unorthodox 5-3-2 formation with Theo Walcott in a previously unheard of RWB position.
The idea behind this was to have a spare man at the back against the double threat of Mario Gomez and Diego Milito and for Luis Filipe and Theo Walcott to provide the width for the team. Debutant Arjen Robben started up front and it proved to be an inspired selection.
Robben's selection paid dividends almost instantly as he picked up the ball and went on a trademark, slaloming run before finishing clinically and Bolton found themselves a goal up in the 1st minute.

    Robben used to scoring stunners
That goal seemed to stun the hosts into life and just 10 minutes later a wonderful pass from Diego Milto sent Gennaro Gattuso through and he powered his shot in off the post.
After that goal Bolton continued to dominate possesion of the ball without creating too many chances but a 3 minute spell just after 30 minutes turned the game on its head. First Robben picked up the ball just outside the box and curled a shot wonderfully into the top corner. If that was a wonderful goal, there was an even better one to come just 2 minutes later. This time it was Diego Perotti. The young Argentine picked up the ball on the left wing and cut inside his marker with ease. Then he curled a beauty into the top corner leaving Iker Casillas with no chance. That was all the action in the first half and Bolton went in extremely happy.

    The youngster celebrates his beauty
Middlesborough started the second half in a determined manner and pulled a goal back after 5 minutes. Mario Gomez sent a cross over and strike partner Diego Milito powered in a header.

    Il Principe celebrates his goal
After Milito's goal Boro piled on the pressure with both Milito and Gomez missing changes they would normally put away with aplomb. However the biggest chance for an equaliser arrived with 4 minutes to go when substitute Paolo Guerrero got to the by-line and cut it back but Mario Gomez somehow contrived to put the ball wide with the goal gaping.
That was the last action of the game and as the final whistle went, Bolton celebrated a hard-fought victory. It doesn't get easier for the Trotters, however, as next up they play Champions, Manchester United, at the Reebok.
