Cricket: We won the ashes..To be fair England & Wales won it because there is one team between the 2. Scotland and Irelands teams play as Countys....

Rugby: We won the World Cup 4 years ago and got to the final last year....Wales/Scotland/Ireland have not done that....
Football: We won the World Cup, and English teams have won 10 Champions League Titles and 6 UEFA Cups, Scotland have won 1 Champions League title, Wales and Ireland Nothing..

Basketball: Only 1 Non English team has ever won the British Basketball League

I am making this thread for all you rugby haters or all people who do not know that much about the sport that I love so much....
    Saturday, 02 February 2008

    ENGLAND 19-26 WALES
All I can say about this match is .....Wow! It was a game of two half's with England playing better in the first half with Wales playing their worst in the whole tournament. Half time score was 16-6 to England.
Wales must of had a massive kick up the backside at the break and came out with the intent to really take it to England and with the flair and brilliant running rugby Wales completely outplayed the English in the second half and ran out winners.

    IRELAND 16-11 ITALY

Italy really took advantage of Ireland's poor play and nearly caused an upset on the first day of the tournament and were very unlucky to leave Dublin as losers. Half time score was 10-3 to Ireland with Ireland performing ok in the first half but Italy really had a go at them in the second half and were really unlucky.

    Sunday, 03 February 2008
    SCOTLAND 6-27 FRANCE

Scotland again depended on the boot of Chris Patterson for any points in thi game against the impressive French. The France backs were ruthless and attacked with so much speed that the Scotland defense looked in tatters throughout. Half time score was 17-6 to France as Scotland gave everything but the effort was not enough and France's overall better ability won the match.

    Table so far:
    1. France 2pts
    2. Wales 2pts
    3. Ireland 2pts
    4. Italy 0pts
    5. England 0pts
    6. Scotland 0pts

    Saturday, 09 February 2008
    WALES 30-15 SCOTLAND

The first half was pretty boring with both teams waisting opportunities to take control of the match. Half time score was 10-6 to Wales. The second half was so much different with Wales coming out and playing the running rugby that all the fans love and were too good for Scotland who gave it their all like the previous match but again it was not enough against a better team.

    FRANCE 26-21 IRELAND

France had the match won by half time after their brilliant running backs scored amazing tries making the half time score 19-6. A really astonishing comeback from Ireland in the second half really impressed me and made me wonder why they could not have played like they did from the start.

    Sunday, 10 February 2008
    ITALY 19-23 ENGLAND

England dominated a quite boring first half taking a 20-6 half time lead. Italy made the second half better to watch by coming out and really going for it and were very very unlucky not to cause a massive upset.

    Table so Far:
    1. Wales 4pts
    2. France 4pts
    3. England 2pts
    4. Ireland 2pts
    5. Italy 0pts
    6. Scotland 0pts

    Saturday, 23 February 2008
    WALES 47-8 ITALY

After a very tense and close first half in which Wales were leading 13-6 at half time, Wales ran out easy winners in the second half after an amazing performance and scored some wonderful tries.

    IRELAND 34-13 SCOTLAND

Another match in which the outcome was sealed with an impressive second half display. The score was only 14-6 to Ireland at half time but they ran away with it in the second half. Scotland AGAIN gave it their all and were unlucky to concede so many points.

    FRANCE 13-24 ENGLAND

England's first performance in which they looked like a team that could beat anyone, they were really up for this game and it showed. Half time was only 13-7 to England but the English ran away with it in the second half to complete a rare win in Paris.

    Table so far:

    1. Wales 6pts
    2. England 4pts
    3. France 4pts
    4. Ireland 4pts
    5. Scotland 0pts
    6. Italy 0pts

    Saturday, 08 March 2008
    SCOTLAND 15-9 ENGLAND

After putting such a heart and effort into every match so far it was about time that Scotland picked up a well deserved victory against the old enemy England. Brilliant performance from the Scotland kickers and a good win.

    IRELAND 12-16 WALES

The match was pretty much an anti-climax and was pretty boring with Ireland defending for their lives and not really showing much in attack. Wales were pounding away at the Ireland defense and in the end won the match and deserved to.

    Sunday, 09 March 2008
    FRANCE 25-13 ITALY

Another good performance from Italy went unrewarded as they lost again to a very disappointing French team. Both teams were getting stuck in and making big hits.

    Table so far:

    1. Wales 8pts
    2. France 6pts
    3. England 4pts
    4. Ireland 4pts
    5. Scotland 2pts
    6. Italy 0pts

    Saturday, 15 March 2008
    ITALY 23-20 SCOTLAND

It is so typical that on of the best matches of the tournament would be between the teams battling it out for the wooden spoon. It was full of heart and passion and it was a shame that one team had to lose.

    ENGLAND 33-10 IRELAND

Ireland played so bad that I found it hard to watch them get totally demolished by England in the second half. Ireland started so brightly that I thought they might get something out of the match, but it was not to be.

    CHAMPIONSHIP GAME:

    WALES 29-12 FRANCE

After a pretty timid first half the second half kicked into life and really made rugby a game to be watched, Wales were outstanding, I am biased but I don't think I will find anyone who will disagree...Great match and deserved winners of the match and the tournament.

    Final group standings:

    1. WALES 10 pts- GRAND SLAM WINNERS!
    2. England 6pts
    3. France 6pts
    4. Ireland 4pts
    5. Scotland 2pts
    6. Italy 2pts

What I'm doing here is to compare the world ratings according to SM with the FIFA world rankings. This is for fun and to stimulate some debate. I've looked at the best XI according to SM ratings for the international teams and calculated averages for comparison in order to find the final table.
    Please note I know:
    - This does not necessarily represent the best teams for each nation
    - No definite conclusions can be made from this
    - A national squad is made of more than 11 players.
Therefore, I would appreciate if any smart alecs who wish to make derogatory remarks about how I've done this to keep it to PM. This is for fun debate only and let's avoid unnecessary arguments
Anyway, here goes. I looked at the top 25 teams as stated by the FIFA rankings from January 2008:

    23. Israel (878)....................................23. Ghana (87.91)
    24. Ivory Coast (877)............................24. Bulgaria (87.82)
    24. Sweden (877).................................25. Israel (87.00)
The numbers in brackets represent the points according to the FIFA formula in the FIFA rankings table and the average rating as calculated above for the SM XI rankings table
Note: Israel may actually be lower than 25th in th SM table but I only looked at the top 25 teams according to FIFA
I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions regarding which list is better, whose over-rated and not. My personal view is that the SM generated table is more accurate - Italy deserve their place at the top as world champions, the likes of Mexico and Ivory Coast deservingly higher up. However, England are seemingly over-rated by this table as perhaps are Russia and Germany are under-rated

Hey there guys, this idea came to my mind as I have many shortlisted players, wouldn't it be nice if you could have like starts beside players in your shortlist or something. Lets say I want player A, its one star on him automatically, and if I want player B but he is something "wow" and I don't the money in the timebeing or for any other reason I don't buy him, I can put 2, or 3 stars depending on how much I want him. In that way the next time I get some money I will have this players with 3, 2, 1 star meaning that I should get the ones with 3 stars first. What do you think?

    Typical British council Home
We have a huge council house in our street. The extended family is run by
a grumpy old woman with a pack of fierce dogs. Her car isn't taxed or
    insured,
and doesn't even have a number plate, but the police still do nothing.
Her bad tempered old man is famous for upsetting foreigners with racist
comments. A shopkeeper blames him for ordering the murder of his son and
his son's girlfriend, but nothing has been proved yet.
All their kids have broken marriages except the youngest, who everyone
    once thought was gay.
Two grandsons are meant to be in the Army but are always seen out in
    nightclubs.
The family's odd antics are always in the papers. They are out of
    control...
Honestly - who'd want to live near Windsor Castle?

There is no need to have 2 prediction league's running as they are just going to become over competitive and turn into 'slag fights'
SM Predict has been running for well over 2 years here on SM by SteGore, Fraser and Leigh and has been enjoyed by most.
Why start a new league when there is already 1 running well?

Roberts was always going to miss this one due to his suspension,Bruce and Harding not to mention Miller not even making the bench was certainly radical from Magilton!!
For some strange reason i have to say that tonight was the first time i have witnessed a more balanced looking Town side. On our left we had Sito, who for me tonite gets my man of the match, with Walters playing in front of him. On the right we had Wright with Haynes in front. The wide boys changing on occasions.
Williams and Garvan playing like they owned the park in the centre. Town were creating chances from both sides which was looking good. It was noticable just how controlled Sito was on the ball. Simple pass infield and not the "Bend it like Beckham" ball down the line from Harding.
Both Lee and Pablo were looking for the goal. It was very noticable too just how much Pablo has got as quallity bot on and off the ball. Players like Garvan,Williams(when of form)Walters and Pablo are Prem material. We are now starting to see what Pablo is all about and is certainly splashing egg all over Royle's face just now!
Wilnis and DeVos as centre halves never quite fill you with confidence. I still find it extrodinary that Magilton is not blooding Casement in this position, for without a doubt the goal that Town conceeded was preventable with close marking and perhaps a more stronger centre half to deal with through balls as this.
I felt that the sending off was perhaps harsh for the foxes. It was a foul without doubt and a tackle from behind and the ref applied the letter of the law. It certainly gave Town breathing space to control the game.
If anyone were to have asked me way back in September..."would Jim Magilton drop Bruce,Harding and Miller" I would have said No....This i hope is Magilton being a manager and not a players mate. Its now up to these players to respond.
Though Town came away with the points tonight. It was'nt a case of having it all their own way. Town just couldnt kill off the game early enough. In fact Town won without getting out of third gear.
A very dissapointing crowd of under 17k bore witness to tonites game. If i had to pick a player who i felt was under performing i have to pick either Wilnis or DeVos. They didnt have bad games tonite respectively, but nor were they commanding.
Some sweet link up play from Billy Clarke who had only been on the pitch for less than a minuite. Hold turn twist and thread it through to a on rushing Pablo....fantastic stuff!
Lee scores a penalty that again if the keeper had stood his ground would have been saved. Pablos goal was well worked as indeed was Walters too.

A fair performance but not a great one. Players responded to the dire defeat at Charlton and did enough overall to win this one.
It goes without saying that 2 up front does work. I know that we have some concerns about Sitos lack of height as a defender.though it is correct that Burley,Mick Mills,Kenny samson to name a few were all lacking height yet performed well for club and country.
I was impressed with the way both of our wide boys were working with our full backs. It looked as i have said ballanced, Long may it continue....

    Charlton 3-1 Ipswich

I have to say that Magilton once again shown us his inexperience as a manager and certainly his diabollical attempts at trying to be tatical manager by playing one up front........How many times and away matches does he need to know that IPSWICH TOWN DO NOT DO 1 UP FRONT???
I think Magilton can be a great manager for this club of ours, but he needs to inject his passion and motorvation, which is what he does best, onto a game and not try being tatical.
It was soul destroying to see Town conceeding 2 soft goals and yet we were still playing with 1 up front. This is not a player decision people, this is Magilton getting it sooooo wrong.
Williams was to put it mildly woefull and all this rubbish about being "flu ridden" is a smoke screen that goes right over this supporters head. Today Williams was struggling to pass wind let alone find another blue shirt. Off he went with his tail between his legs, you could cut the atmosphere with a sharp knife with the body language that was apparent between player and manager. Magilton was simply not a happy bunny at all.
Pablo on for Williams was a positive move and one that took too long to happen. Now with 4-4-2,Town could play the Ippy way.
No other word in my vocabulary can be reached apart from pathetic for the contribution that both Roberts and Harding made to this match. Harding may have felt that he was getting no support from in front of him and to a degree he is right, But in my opinion he defended like an Austrian in WW2 when the Nazies marched into town. He may have well not been their.
His "Chuckle brother" in front of him Roberts had ample chances to run into space and produce something....anything, but NO.....Gary (i really aint good enough for this division) Roberts was cluttering up the mid-field like a lost cow on the M25 during rush hour!!
Town in the first 45 mins were not bad......they were disfunctional as a unit and what hurts me more than most is i am less experienced as a football manager than even Magilton is,yet even i along with the vast majority of our support could see that this was not going to work,so why leave it so late to chane it?
You could tell that Charlton had some real quallity in their side and it showed. I was impressed once again with the work rate and effort that Walters put in. Lee was on occasions a handfull for the Charlton defence, often giving as good as he was getting. The sending off at the final whistle that was instigated by Lee and exicuted so well happend 20 mins too late
Haynes and Sito, who i am tempted to give man of the match to, were both a breath of fresh air. Haynes with his pace still is an exciting player to watch and i challenge anyone who says that the hairs on the back of my neck dont stand on end, whenever he is in full flight.
Lee not only hit the crossbar, but also missed with a penalty that was so poorly struck that even a very drunken tramp could have saved! Miller should have taken it and mabe, just mabe this game could have ended with a different result.
2nd half like Bristol last Tuesday nite,Town were all over the Charlton goal. Pablo, with his back towards goal in front of the Tractor army, back heeled into the net. Charlton were the phyisical, stronger side, yet Town were starting to play like they do at PR. Jim if you are by any chance reading this.....why do you think this was? Wanna clue? 2 up front perhaps?
I felt that the referee had a reasonable game.....He pointed to the spot and gave Charlton a penalty for a hand ball. Under protest the referee consulted his lino and then recindered his decision. Not to many referees in the modern game would have had the nerve to do that. Hats off to him.
So in a nutshell, Town are yet again returning home to Ipswich with nothing for there travels. In my opinion,I believe that Magilton is wrong in believing he is a tatical manager, when he should know that he is a "Talker" thus a motervator of players.
Harding,Williams and Roberts were very poor and i mean so poor Tony Dinning even looked good If Jim is planning to kick players up their butts then i hope that Harding is one of the 1st. Sito did what was asked of him this afternoon and deserves to retain his place on Tuesday nite. Williams needs to show us that he is committed to theis club and Roberts needs to knock on the managers door and confess to not being good enough for this league.

Mark 1978 reacted to bestpay in Bestpay's French rating change forecasts - 37 players
We're about 2 1/2 weeks away from the French updates, which I guess could also be delayed due to Christmas. I thought i'd create a prospects list, please note:
    1) It's my view of what SM will rise a player to not always my view
    2) It's not an exhaustive list and the list focuses primarily on investment rather than top-end (88+ players)
I'll post an update in 2-3 weeks time with any changes to the ratings indicated. I've posted now as I know many of you like time to buy the players and save your pennies.

Where are you getting this from Ipswich may have not played well in the first half, but they were by far the best team in the second half! The only reason we didn't equalise was because the city keeper pulled off some top quality saves!
