  1. Re: Official Chelsea FC Thread That may be the case on SM (I haven't managed a team for a while, so I don't know exactly how much better it is), but it's not that clear cut in real life. It's all about implementation. Adapting your tactics slightly will probably do you far more good than changing your entire formation just for one single game. If when you lose the ball, the midfield 3 stay really narrow, and the wingers drop deep to make a 4-5-1/4-1-4-1, then the Chelsea midfield will be much less of a problem. Your DM can man-mark the Chelsea AM, and your other 4 then outnumber Chelsea's
  2. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Is it just me' date=' or has the number of covers being churned out in general shot up in the past few months? I mean I know the numbers have been steadily increasing for years, but recently it seems that pretty much every other song I hear, either in shops, on TV, or on the radio (not that I listen to it by choice) is a cover... and 99% of the time almost [i']identical[/i] to the original. There was a time when cover songs appeared roughly 1 track every 3-5 (ish) albums, and just as a small tribute to an artist the band respects (or occasionally a mickey
  3. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Agree with that 100% ...and somehow they make it sound even better on Emperial Live Ceremony and Live Inferno.
  4. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Negura Bunget - Tesarul De Lumini 46GhUrtrklM A stunning song by a band who are becoming one of my favourites in black metal.
  5. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Not often you see a decent thrash band on this thread. Pleasure To Kill and Coma Of Souls are up there with the best thrash albums ever made (although Dark Angel have to take the number 1 spot with Darkness Descends). Brilliant live band too. Celtic Frost - Obscured
  6. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Can't disagree with any of that' date=' to be honest. Lies is usually forgotten about though, I find. If it had 1 or 2 more songs and you take away the contoversy of the 'One In A Million' lyrics, it wouldn't be that far behind Appetite, in my opinion. Haven't heard it, but that wouldn't surprise me at all. Izzy was Guns' strongest songwriter by some distance. People generally say new GNR isn't the same because Slash and Duff are missing, but for me they miss Izzy far more than either of those two.
  7. Re: Right now i'm listening to... I loved those albums too' date=' actually. Particularly number 2. You're forgetting The Spaghetti Incident, though. That was the musical equivalent of herpes. Anyway... [b']Alice In Chains - Would?[/b] i3FnQMSD4Zg
  8. Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion thread Not sure I agree with that. The first goal definately shouldn't have stood, in my opinion (actually, I can imagine the uproar if the same happened at the other end instead - and LFC fans would be right to be unhappy if it did). Awful mess up at the back, but Torres definately gained an unfair advantage before tapping it in. Liverpool easily deserved the lead, but the hand on the shoulder definately had me wondering if the ref might benefit from a visit to Specsavers (either that or maybe he's best mates with Rafa ). Haven't got a clue about the r

  10. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Judas Priest - Dissident Aggressor
  11. Re: Gerrard To 98? 98 is pushing it a little bit to be honest. Yes, he is one of the top 3 or 4 CMs in the world, but should he really be 4 points better than the likes of Van Der Vaart, Sneijder and De Rossi?? 3 better than Essien, Iniesta, Ribery and Fabregas?? 2 better than Xavi??? I don't think so. I would put him level with Ronaldo, but Ronaldo should only really be a 97. He was the best player in the world last season, but it was only ONE season... that's not quite enough for a rating level with Kaka and better than Messi imo. I also agree with those who said Xavi should be at least l
  12. Re: Pascal Feindouno? I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but regardless of club loyalty I'd rather play in the French top division than some unknown middle-eastern mickey mouse league that just happens to have found a few rich investors. Moving to clubs in leagues of a similar level for more money is fine. I have no problem with that. Taking a massive step down though just for a fatter pay cheque is nothing but greed. He can't be that bothered about the actual game if he's taken that huge a step down. Burs - You've actually made a couple of good points there. I don't necessarily agree
  13. Re: Pascal Feindouno? A GP can expect to earn between £80-120k a year... a Premiership footballer (not necessarily just the top ones either) averages £676k (according to 2006 figures). You tell me how a footballer' date=' no matter how talented, deserves 6-8 times as much as a doctor. I know a doctor's career is 2-3 times as long as a footballers, but that much of a gap in pay is ridiculous. In terms of value to society, a footballer's talent doesn't come any higher on the scale than jobs such as plumber, electrician, joiner etc. And yes, players do deserve a share of the club's money.
  14. Re: Pascal Feindouno? On the financial side of things, assume the average worker earns £20k a year (that's actually being very generous) and works for 40 years... that's a total of £800k. Now assuming a footballer 'works' for about 15 years, they need to be earning an average of about £53k a year (or lets call it £1k a week), to put them on or above the same level as most 'normal' people. In 2006, even the average League Two salary was £49600... and after that, footballers still have bonuses, sign-on fees etc to look forward to, which apparently increase the figures by 60-100%. http://news.
  15. Re: Squad Sizes There's a really easy way to stop people having ridiculously large squads. Make it much harder to make a profit (particularly for teams with larger stadiums). At the moment, it's far too easy to make money in SM, and naturally when you get cash you want to spend it... which is what results in stupid squad sizes. Make less cash available, and squad sizes will come down naturally without imposing a physical limit. Having less to spend on up and coming talent will also make scouting much more important, as managers will have to carefully select which they think are the best 3 or

  17. Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion thread Haha. Absolute joke... no way in hell that was a penalty, and then Aguero gets booked for a perfectly legal kick. On balance of play, maybe a draw is deserved (although 0-0 would have been better as Liverpool's play in the box doesn't really deserve a goal), but you have to feel sorry for Atletico after that decision. Linesman bottled it in my opinion.
  18. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Emperor - Towards The Pantheon ^ There's an album you need in your collection if you like Nathrakh.
  19. Re: Right now i'm listening to... 'Earth Song' maybe? That's what springs to mind anyway. EDIT: 'Heal The World' actually. I knew Earth song didn't quite fit.
  20. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Bolt Thrower - Lest We Forget
  21. Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion thread Hang on a minute... Fergie played 4-5-1 in almost every away game in last year's CL. We probably won't do it this year as we have more options up front. I think the reason Rafa only played 1 up front in many games is the same reason Fergie did away from home... not enough quality players. Kuyt has always looked better on the right in my opinion, and Crouch and Voronin just weren't good enough last season.
  22. Re: Right now i'm listening to... Haha. Would be brilliant if they put something insanely technical' date=' like some Spastik Ink or Blotted Science on the next Rock Band... the singer wouldn't have a lot to do though. Here's the guitarist (of both bands) and drummer (of Spastik Ink) in action: [YOUTUBE']NCkxA8OeM94[/YOUTUBE] TYtUYw3t0wA Play that after a night in the pub. Anyway...
