  1. Re: Offical Australian Ratings

Updated Stats for 2009/2010 so far for the 15-21 year olds (up to 1988)

    Rostyn Griffiths midfielder 3

    Former Blackburn reserve player

    Mate Dugandzic midfielder 2

Was on loan from Dynamo Zagreb to a 2nd division team, but came back for certain reasons. Touted as a future Socceroo (more so then the A-League squad type national matches).

    Mathew Leckie midfielder 2

I've read that he has been one of the shining lights in a very bleak season for Adelaide. He is still young at 18 and also touted as a future Socceroo.

    Sean Rooney striker 2

    Jason Hoffman striker 2

    Brendan Gan midfielder 1

    Jason Naidovski striker 1

    Kofi Danning midfielder 1

    Mitch Nichols midfielder 1

    Costa Barbarouses striker 1

    David Williams midfielder 1

    Isaka Cernak midfielder 1

    Luke DeVere defender 1

    Tommy Oar midfielder 1

He has been the latest to be labelled the next Karry Kewell, but to be the next Harry Kewell you would have to be scoring and playing good at that age in a league like the EPL. He only just turned 18 and could make his Socceroo's debut in a local (plus few others) Socceroo's squad that will be playing in January. He could possibly look to make a move overseas, but he might look to stay a year.

    Scott Jamieson defender 2

    Costa Barbarouses striker 2

    David Williams midfielder 2

    Leigh Broxham midfielder 2

    Sean Rooney striker 2

    Kaz Patafta midfielder 1

    Kofi Danning midfielder 1

    Adam Sarota midfielder 1

    Mathew Leckie midfielder 1

    Nathan Elasi striker 1

    Tommy Oar midfielder 1

I'll probably try to start doing the ratings soon since Australia's ratings I assume will be done in a couple of months (though maybe more towards May/June). I'll probably change it to 15-25 year olds for a wider scope.

  2. Re: World Cup 2010 Draw Discussion Thread

What an easy group - the type that before England have had problems qualifing from - however there looking much stronger nowadays - so bring on Germany/Ghana in the 1st knockout game :P

Hopefully Australia can change that! :D If we had a fit and firing Viduka we would have a good chance. He hasn't announced his retirement, but the only chance would be if he signed for a club in January. Though it is highly unlikely he will continue playing, unless he plays next season for the A-League. He is likely to just live in Croatia though.

  3. Re: World Cup 2010 Draw Discussion Thread

Well Australia got a hard group. The hardest group being Brazil's group. I guess we do have a similar group to our 2006 WC campaign. We'd be aiming for a point against Germany, which would help a lot. We'd want a win against either Ghana or Serbia.

I am also half Italian, and Italy obviously got a decent group.

If Australia finish 2nd in their group and England win their group, then it would be a match-up in the final 16! :D

  4. Re: Simon Colosimo - 76---80+

He's be competing for a spot with the likes of Lucas Neill, Craig Moore, Patrick Kisnorbo, Mark Milligan, Matthew Spiranovic, Jade North, Michael Beauchamp, Adrian Madaschi, and Chris Coyne.

I am sure we will have 4 spots for CB's and 4 spots for fullbacks (Williams being able to play CB and CM too). Neil would have an automatic spot, but the rest you could say are all up for grabs. He tends to like Moore in the team though.

Those last four you can probably rule out. I'd like to see Milligan and Spiranovic going, but he'll probably take Coyne instead of one of them. I guess Colosimo does have a chance if he can get a loan move.

  5. Re: Shane Lowry

Shane Lowry is australian born but has chosen to play international football for ireland he is a big lump of a centre back 6ft1 14st4 he's currently on loan at plymouth was added to the database a couple of days ago.

You clearly didn't read that article! He was in the squad for the Socceroos in two recent games' date=' but didn't play. His allegiance is now with Australia and all he needs to do is play a game, unless he swapped back. The chances of that happening is low.

Right there he is also named in the recent squad from those two matches (it says he has two caps in his page, but he hasn't actually played yet).

  6. Re: Offical Australian Ratings

Mate Dugandzic (an AM/winger type player), who just turned 20, in his first game starting in the A-league he got 2 goals. It was his 4th game; the first two were less than 10 mins each and the 3rd game he shined in a 40 minute stint. He played the whole game this time. He was in the books for Dinamo Zagreb in 2008/2009, but was loaned out to NK Lokomotiva Zagreb in the 2nd tier (scoring 6 in 14, assists unknown). I think he came back in January over possibly not being paid at certain times (unless just for experience as Melbourne Knights in the Victorian Premier League are linked to them).

He is highly touted as a future Socceroo and I guess he could end up big. He had interest from Roma when Dinamo Zagreb had interest in him in late 2007, but he chose to trial with Dinamo Zagreb (given his Croatian background).

He's not on the DB that I know of.

  8. Re: U20 World Cup

I watched the match Australia vs Czech's were they lost 2-1.

Australia didn't play at there best but some Aussies played well like Holland' date=' Danning.

I am proud of Danning (My Scout) that he played.[/quote']

Also our best player, Mooy, wasn't even in that game! I am not sure why, maybe the manager thought we would win or draw without him and he could save him for the other games (unless injured). Though apparently a lot of players played ordinary (compared to their A-League form).

  9. Re: U20 World Cup

We lost 2-1 to the Czech's. It was our first loss in the first game out of 13 u20 WC's we have competed in (7 wins, 5 draws, 1 loss). Our problem is a lack of quality for strikers at most levels. There is Christian Esposito, in Serie B, but they didn't choose him (apparently rated highly and can choose to represent Australia or Italy).

  10. Re: Offical Australian Ratings

    Dean Evans

    (born March 7, 1990)

He is rated as a LB and has a rating of 65.

    DOYLE, Hayden Perth Glory 20 70 - £10k £10k

    CB - UnKnown

GK's on the DB to add:

    Gk - UnKnown

    CROWTHER, Reece Wellington Phoenix 20 64 - £35k £40k

    Gk - UnKnown

    VRTESKI, Aleksandar Perth Glory 19 74 - £361k £420k

  11. Re: U20 World Cup

Some can play multiple roles. It's a shame they didn't pick more overseas players.

    Young Socceroos Squad:

Dean Bouzanis (gk) Liverpool FC, England

Andrew Redmayne (gk) Central Coast Mariners, Australia

Alex Cisak (gk) Leicester City, England

    Daniel Mullen Adelaide United, Australia

    Rhyan Grant Sydney FC, Australia

    Luke DeVere Brisbane Roar, Australia

    Ryan McGowan Hearts FC, Scotland

    Matthew Jurman Sydney FC, Australia

Sam Gallagher Manly United, Australia (Only in a State League team until recently)

    James Holland AZ Alkmaar, Netherlands

    Chris Herd Aston Villa, England

    Ben Kantarovski Newcastle Jets, Australia

    Sam Munro Sydney FC, Australia

    Aaron Mooy Bolton Wanderers, England

    Mitch Nichols Brisbane Roar, Australia

    Kofi Danning Sydney FC, Australia

Tahj Minniecon Gold Coast United, Australia

    Jason Hoffman Newcastle Jets, Australia

    Thomas Oar Brisbane Roar, Australia

    Sean Rooney Newcastle Jets, Australia

    Nathan Elasi Melbourne Victory, Australia

    Noteable omissions:

    Robert Stambolziev

    Shane Lowry

    Paul Giannou

    Oliver Bozanic (injured recently)

    Peter Cvetanovski (injured?)

    Rocco Visconte

    Christian Esposito (Serie B team)

    Bradden Inman (Newcastle United)

    Theo Markelis (Valencia)

    Kearyn Baccus (Real Mallorca)

    Chris Payne

  12. Re: U20 World Cup

I guess Brazil didn't include players like Pato, Rafael, Fabio, and Possebon because they are already in world class teams (future supserstars).

Australia's preliminary squad was announced recently, and surprising omissions from that squad were:

Chris Herd (Aston Villa - reserves, 1989)

Shane Lowry (Aston Villa - reserves, 1989, has played youth internationals for Ireland)

Robert Stambolziev (Panathinikos - reserves?, 1990)

Bradden Inman (Newcastle United, 1991, has played a few for Scotland youth)

and a few others I'd say (Christian Esposito, who went to Italy in his mid teens, 1990.... Theo Markelis, possibly 17 this year and in Valencia, a player in Real Mallorca).

Also Oliver Bozanic got injured recently and could miss out on the final squad.

  13. Re: Rhys Williams

Played the full 90 minutes as Australia defeated Republic of Ireland 3-0. He put in a solid performance at the right of the defense' date=' proving to be an absolute rock at times when left exposed by the absence of the Australia right midfielder. He was also the reason for the Aussies second goal. He beat Aidan McGeady to the ball and after taking it on with a strong run to the box he unleashed a save to the corner which produced a world class shot from Shay Given, from this Tim Cahill then slotted in the rebound. This is his third senior international appearence for Australia.[/quote']

I think it was his second match. I didn't see the game, but I know he was rated an 8 for his game. We'll have quite a good defence for the 2014/2018 WC's.
