Saints fans sleep through Bore Draw
In a mainly non-eventful game of football, Southampton got their first point of the season, drawing with a on-form Derby County.
There was promising signs for a entertaining game as there was early chances for both sides. In the first minute Luke Varney skied his shot over, while new signing former Chelsea midfielder Alexei Smertin went past two defenders only to see his shot drag wide.
After those two chances, both sides were reduced to long shots which mostly went straight to two goalkeepers. Victor Anichebe had the best chances to break the deadlock but his shooting boots were missing as he missed an easy chance.
The second half was more of the same with hopeful long balls not going anywhere. Chances were few and far between but Jacob Mellis came inches from scoring with his head. and Robbie Savage's curling shot went just wide of the post.
After the game Katia Khizhnichenko talked about the game in a post-match interview for BBC Sport: "It wasn't the best of games but a point against Derby will give us confidence as they are one of the best teams in our division. Up next we have a Norwich side who can be dangerous from the attacking side with Jan Koller and Cameron Jerome."
The draw against Derby has moved them up a spot to 17th in the table and a win against Norwich could move them up as high as 12th position in the table. The next game will definetly be interesting for Saints fans.
Victor Anichebe claimed the Man of the Match award.. To be honest it could've been given to anybody
