    SC Freiburg 0-2 Bayer Leverkusen
Ross Philp's side maintained their unbeaten start to the season as his side won away at Freiburg, having previously drawn with Stuttgart and Bayern, and beaten Nurnberg and Hamburg in their opening matches. Goals in this match came from on-form striker Jon Dahl Tomasson who has been on fire since Philp's arrival and has six league goals in five league matches, and the Dane's form should be vital in their plea for success this season.

First real test passed with flying colors

    Feyenoord 1 - 5 Ajax

There was a huge amount of anticipation on last night match. These 2 teams were the top 2 last season with Feyenoord winning the league by a pretty big margin. Since then Ajax manager Dai Winston has been running his mouth about how much he wants to dethrone Feyenoord and prove his team are the best in the division. This was a crunch match of massive proportion but with Feyenoord manager Adam, a good friend of Ajax manager Dai, not being as involved with his team as much as he has been in the past Winston was a bit reluctant to take any praise for his team winning.
Ajax were soon in front with the leagues top scorer getting the goal, Julio Cruz is on fire this season, he is really scoring for fun and enjoying his football, he gave Ajax the lead after 20 minutes as he beat his marker with some nice skill, then caressed a lovely curler past Feyenoord keeper Ben Foster. Feyenoord equalized 5 minutes from the break when Nicolas Fauvergue scored. The score was 1-1 at the half time break.

( Argentine maestro Julio Cruz gave Ajax the lead before Feyenoord equalized )

The second half was all Ajax, they took the lead again just a minute into the second as French defender Pascal Cygan scored with a very uncharacteristic long range curled shot. Five minutes later it was 3-1 to Ajax as that man Cruz scored again, after some wonderful dribbling the Argentine slotted the ball home very neatly.
Ajax were really turning the screw as Julio Cruz again found the net when he rose high to meat an inch perfect cross and header the ball emphatically past Foster again to complete a wonderful hat-rick and give Ajax a 4-1 lead.
Just 10 minutes from time Ajax condemned Feyenoord to an embarrassing home thumping as Ajax's other super striker Lopez Lisandro as his half volley was unstoppable and flew into the back of the net.

( Cruz completed his hat-rick in the second half )

( Lisandro completed the drubbing as he got Ajax's fifth )

    Comfortably third now!

Since the 6-4 win over Benfica, with one loss and three wins, Cruzeiro have opened up a five point gap between them and fourth placed Lazio. It really has been a great season for the Brazilian side as their early season aim of promotion looks more than likely. With five games left, another two wins should do it but "their will be no let up".
On the Saturday after the win at home to Benfica, Cruzeiro travelled to second placed Athletic Bilbao looking to close the gap betwee the sides. But with Agostini and Morales scoring in the first half, and Mutu and Rolfes in the second half, Cruzeiro were humiliated being hammered 4-0 in Spain showing the class.
Cruzeiro were looking to bounce back and they really did that in their next match at home to Espanyol. 5-0 was the scoreline with the tie being a mis-match as Cruzeiro looked to get back onto winning ways. Raul Meireles' opener was followed by second half goals from Brechet, Suazo, Afonso Alves and Viduka.
And their second clean sheet in a row was achieved in their next match after the earlier hammering of Athletic Bilbao. Cruzeiro travelled to Lokomotiv Moskva on a cold Saturday night and Mark Viduka got the only goal of the game after eleven minutes. The 1-0 win opened a two point gap on fourth placed Lazio.
And in their match against Werder Bremen tonight, Cruzeiro shipped six goals with the tie finished at the end of the first half. They were up by five through goals from Babic, Afonso Alves and Viduka(3). Perez and Hesselink scored for the visitors in the second period as Babic's second made the final score 6-2.

UPDATE FROM EASTER ROADAfter the opening four games of the season, Hibernian with Ross Philp making his first full season in charge, are still unbeaten.
The opening day 3-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at home, was followed by a 2-2 away draw at Dundee United. A tough match away at Tynecastle in the next match saw no goals as it finished 0-0.
Next up for Philp's Hibs was Cally's Rangers side who were league runners-up last year. With a full squad to pick from, Hibs fancied their chances especially having beat them at the tail end of last season too.
    Hibernian 2-1 Rangers
After only five minutes, Dmitri Torbinsky shocked the Easter Road faithful as he gave the Gers the lead. After a goalmouth scramble, Torbinsky was the first to react and got his first goal of the season.
But only five minutes later, Silva Kim kept up his great goalscoring form under Philp as he headed excellently, sending the ball crashing into the back of the net past Rangers keeper Allan McGregor.
Both teams went close but goalkeeper McGregor and equally at the other end Antonio Chimenti in the Hibs goal was on fantastic form as he saved well from Ferguson as Torbinsky continued to pressure.
But the winner came on 75 minutes, as Silva Kim managed to beat Allan McGregor once again as he followed up on the rebound as the Scottish goalkeeper parried out to the feet of the forward.
Motherwell and Rangers head the lead with nine points, with St Mirren, Hibernian and Dundee United only one point further back.
Hibs take on Clyde on Saturday and they will be looking for three points against a poor side. They then face them the Monday after in the first round of the Scottish Cup.

Ahead of the new campaign, Dynamo Kyiv welcomed Ross Philp as manager who is in temporary charge until the end of the season, before the Kyiv board will decide if his future will be in Kyiv.
With a very good squad, he went into his first match as boss against an unmanaged side in Krylia Sovetov, with the following line up:- Juan Carrizo, Oliver Schroder, Giovanni Pasquale, Lozano Oriol, Matias Silvestre, Taras Mykhalyk, Denny Landzaat, Papa Bouba Diop, Fabio Quagliarella, Olksiy Byelik, Daniel Moreira.
    Dynamo Kyiv 4-2 Krylia Sovetov
After only five minutes had been played, Taras Mykhalyk opened the scoring for the home side, much to the delight of manager Ross Philp. Daniel Moreira then rifled in a right foot shot which came off the woodwork before landing in the Sovetov goal. Petr Nemov then got the away side back in the game with a goal in the 32nd minute, from 15 yards.
The next goal wasn't until the 74th minute, when Papa Bouba Diop finished neatly inside the box. But only one minute later, there was nothing Kyiv keeper Juan Carrizo could do as Vitaliy Bulyga scored. But with only eight minutes left, a half volley into the roof of the net scored by Denny Landzaat ensured a winning start for manager Philp.
Well next season their will be no European competition at the Lobanovsky Dynamo Stadium unless we manage to leapfrog Lokomotiv Moscow who currently lie fourth in the Eastern European table. With Dynamo only one point behind them at the moment, it is very possible, however they face title contenders Torpedo Moskva who are currently second, away from home on Saturday. Lokomotiv host unmanaged Shinnik Yaroslavl.

    Metz 0-3 Monaco

Monaco had another comfortable win tonight, and effectively moved into the SMFA Shield spot for next season. They leapfrogged Sochaux who lost tonight, and took fourth spot, three points behind third placed Lille.
Jeremy Menez struck on 40 minutes, scoring his fourth goal in two games. His header into the corner of the net, gave Monaco the lead.
Just after the hour mark, defender Paolo Cannavaro scored his third goal in two games, with an early strike to double Monaco's lead.
And their lead was further extended when Lucas Bernardi dummied the keeper and slid the ball into the empty net.
So after 37 matches, the table in France looks like this..
    1. Bordeaux 78(+42)
    2. Auxerre 73(+35)
    ---------------
    3. Lille 66(+27)
    4. Monaco 63(+11)

    Monaco 5-1 Lorient
Ross Philp, was only in charge for one day before his new side Monaco faced Lorient as they aim for European football.
Defender Paolo Cannavaro put Monaco ahead after only one minute, but Carl Medjani gave the hosts a problem as he equalised on 26 minutes. Two goals in the space of a minute from Monaco forward Jeremy Menez put Monaco 3-1 up at half time in after a first period in which the French side totally dominated.
Into the second half and twelve minutes in, defender Paolo Cannavaro got his second of the game putting Monaco three goals up on Lorient. And the hammering was complete, as was Menez's hattrick on 66 minutes as he finished off the rout, with a tap in which he bundled over the line.
Monaco sit fifth in the French league, only two points behind Sochaux who occupy the fourth and final European slot. Next up for Monaco is an away tie to unmanaged Metz.

    Lazio 2-2 Cruzeiro
    ---
The unbeaten run continues from Cruzeiro under manager Ross Philp. Hernan Crespo and Patrick Ebert were on the scoresheet for the Italians, but on fire Vincenzo Montella and Shota Arveladze got the goals that gave them a point.
    ---
After the tenth minute booking of Raul Meireles in a scrappy opening, Vincenzo Montella's curling shot from the outside of the box was a sublime finish, giving the Brazilian side the lead in this third versus fourth encounter.
However, only eight minutes later, Argentinian striker Hernan Crespo got Lazio back on level terms. On 22 minutes, his early hit took Doni in the Cruzeiro goal by surprise, getting the Italians back on track in their home ground.
It took until 74 minutes for another goal to be scored, and it took Lazio ahead, Patrick Ebert on the scoresheet. His powerful right foot shot, directed into the onion bag, was definitely one for him to take pride from.
Then, the Cruzeiro character under Ross Philp showed, as on 86 minutes, on form Shota Arveladze snatched the equaliser for Cruzeiro, and at that, an invaluable point. He missed at the first attempt, but dually dispatched at the second time of asking with a toe-poke.
    ---
''For the neutral, what a game. For Lazio, a disappointing draw in some respect as they possibly should've taken all three points. For us, a great away draw, and considering the circumstances was a good point to get. Shota and Vincenzo were great again, but unfortunately Afonso Alves was disappointing and will be dropped for our next encounter - at home to Everton''
    ---
    1, Manchester United 37(+22)
    2, Athletic Bilbao 33(+9)

    ---------------------
    4, Lazio 31(+12)
    5, Everton 29(-1)
    6, Chievo 28(+11)
Yet again, after tonights matches, the top four remains unchanged. Athletic Bilbao slipped up, and could only manage a home draw with Milan. Manchester United extended their lead to four points, with a 2-1 win at home to Real Madrid. Everton can move into the top four in their next match with a 2-0 home win over Shakhtar, as can Chievo, who tonight won 3-2 away at Benfica, in Portugal.
    Cruzeiro - Everton
    Chievo - Athletic Bilbao
    Boca Juniors - Manchester United
    Real Madrid - Lazio
A few tasty ties in the next turn as its third versus fifth as Cruzeiro host Everton, as the tough matches keep on coming for the Brazilians. Second travel to sixth as Chievo host Athletic Bilbao. United face a tough task away to Boca Juniors, while Lazio may struggle in the Bernabeu as they face Real Madrid

    Cruzeiro 3-1 AZ Alkmaar
    ---
Brazilian side Cruzeiro make it three out of three under new manager Ross Philp. Goals from Montella, Elmander and Raul Meireles sealed the win, with a goal from Pantelic for the visitors.
    ---
Cruzeiro went ahead through Vincenzo Montella after only one minute. His header into the corner of the net, was cancelled out with a 19th minute goal from Marko Pantelic. His poke on the line gave the visitors a lifeline. However, five minutes before the break, on-loan striker Johan Elmander put Cruzeiro back ahead with an easy tap in.
The second half saw Cruzeiro seal the three points, with a goal from Jose Raul Meireles. Winger Trochowski cut the ball back from the by line, and Raul Meireles tapped in for a goal to finish off a fine win for the Brazilian side, two minutes from time.
    ---
Ross Philp again, couldn't praise his side enough. ''Im very delighted with this win, and the goals are coming from everywhere. The strikers have shown that they are indeed prolific, and the midfield have also shown they can chip in.''
''I am pleased again that we are able to cope without Afonso Alves. Elmander who came in from Chelsea got a goal tonight, and played very well. I was tempted to play new signing Montella, but thought, why change a winning team?''
    ---
    1, Manchester United 33(+22)
    2, Athletic Bilbao 29(+11)
    3, Cruzeiro 26(+15)
    ---------------------
    4, Lazio 26(+10)
    5, Espanyol 23(+8)
Cruzeiro move into the promotion spots, as Lazio lose 3-2 to Manchester United in Italy. This result means that United take a two point lead over Athletic Bilbao who drew 0-0, away at Stuttgart.
    Lazio - Shakhtar Donetsk
    Espanyol - VfB Stuttgart
    Newcastle United - Cruzeiro
    Manchester United - Everton
    Athletic Bilbao - Feyenoord

So next up for Cruzeiro, is an away tie in England at Newcastle who tonight lost 2-1 away at Everton. Newcastle are currently lingering above the relegation zone and will find it tough, albeit with home advantage, against Brazilian side Cruzeiro. Afonso Alves may return for Cruzeiro, but manager Ross Philp will wait to see the result of a late fitness test.
