Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion thread
I was basing myself on last season for Skrtel, as I don't have the time to watch Pool this season. However, if you guys are to base it on this season only, then Aguero outshines Torres by a few miles...
Also, about the Heitinga playing 91 mins only, he's been injured. He still was yesterday, and it was obvious. I think the big test will be facing up to Barcelona with a non-fit Heitinga and both Seitaridis and Pablo out. If Atleti can contain them, then yes, our defense is better. Liverpool havn't had any challenges this year. Pretty much full fitness if I'm not mistaken? We've lost 2 holding mids and 3 defenders. And still have only allowed one goal in 2 CL matches and 4 goals in 5 Liga matches. That's a pretty good record.
As for Ujfalusi, he reminds me a bit of Lugano, not in playing style, but with the fact that if he'd have any exposure whatsoever, he'd be rated much higher by all these armchair-analysts. As for playing style, I don't think it's out of question to say he's a poor man's Carragher.
And I don't care what you guys say, from what I've seen of Skrtel, he's no Heitinga, not even close. Heck, I can think of 4 CB's on Atletico I'd rather have out there than the Skrtel I've seen...
Funny no one's mentionned the midfield or keepers yet. Our backup is better than your backup (kidding, but true )

    North London Thriller!

    Late Arsenal Goals Deny Spurs

    Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham Hostpurs

    Aaron LENNON (16)
    Roman PAVLYUCHENKO (29)
    Niklas BENDTNER (85)
    Emmanuel ADEBAYOR (87)

The fierce rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs continued as Sparky's Arsenal battled against Tebthereb's Spurs.
Arsenal, always the favourites when it comes to the North London derbies, somewhat needed rescuing at the end.
The Gunners made 10 changes to the squad who beat Rochdale in the F.A Cup on Monday. The team sheet saw Bakary Sagna back after suspension, with Bojinov starting ahead of Bendtner due to his recent form.

But the Gunners looked nowhere near as threatening as Pavlyuchenko, Lennon and Jermaine Jenas came close for Spurs in the early minutes of the half.
It was just a matter of time and unsurprisingly, English winger Aaron Lennon opened the scoring as he slotted the ball from fifteen yards. The Arsenal defense cut in half with the flamboyant winger capitalizing.

    Lennon - Seconds Before Scoring

Arsenal tried giving a quick response but saves from Gomes denied Diaby and Gavanon.

And after just 13 minutes of taking the lead, the North London whites scored again, through Russian star Roman Pavlyuchenko with a magnificent overhead kick. The new man really showing his worth as the home side lay there bewildered.

Thumbs Up - Pavlyuchenko Scores A Screamer

Half time saw the Gunners losing 2-0, a very frustrated Sparky lead his team out in the second half demanding a response.
And a response was exactly what him and the fans received as Arsenal pushed and pushed. But saves from Gomes meant the home side had to wait until the last minutes to get back into the game.
Super sub Niklas Bendtner made a quick impact with a brilliant goal. He tuned past two Spurs defenders and fired in a low shot. Gomes having no chances whatsoever.

    Bendtner Scores Past Keeper Gomes

And just a couple minutes later, Togolese striker Emanuel Adebayor equalized for his team as he rounded past the keeper with an easy finish. Adebayor making the most of the errors made by the opposition defense. Adebayor leveling the scoring in this brilliant North London thriller!

    Adebayor Saves Arsenal

Fortunately for Arsenal, league rivals Liverpool also drew meaning they were behind due to goal difference only. Boss Sparky has said that his team needs to beat teams like Spurs and 'Boro if they are to progress. North Londoners Arsenal have already defeated Manchester United and Liverpool in three days.

The Gunners will now travel to West London as they play fellow city rivals Fulham.

    Fiorentina ease past Treviso

Fiorentina travelled to the Omobono Tenni to take on Treviso in the Italian cup Round 2. Sheva left out the big names for the match. The likes of Gilardino, Mutu, Pasquale, Montolivo, Dainelli and Kuzmanovic were all left out. Roger and Bentley also watched from the stand, both being injured. Bentley is yet to make his debut for the Viola.
Spurs duo, Dos Santos Giovani and Darren Bent led the charge in attack. Santana and Gobbi occupying the wings. Felipe Melo and Sergio Almiron were at CM while, 22 year old Brazilian, Santos Rodrigo Mancha was handed his debut for the Viola. He was to provide cover for the 3 defenders, Vargas, Clerc and Gamberini.
Sergio Almiron opened the scoring immediately after being handed his first start of the season. He showed the manager why he should have a place in the Fiorentina midfield after he slotted home with a great solo effort. Just 5 minutes later, Rodrigo Mancha doubled the Viola's lead. The Brazilian showed great technique after he latched onto a pass by fellow Brazilian Felipe Melo. Mancha blasted the ball with the outside of his right foot to curl the ball brilliantly into the back of the net. Dos Santos scored his first goal for the club as well to make it 3-0 to Fiorentina after he showed tremendous skill to get past his marker and he then rounded up the keeper with ease. Midfielder Gianni Giogou did manage to pull one back for the home side 5 minutes after the restart but the Fiorentina defence looked steady after that. Final score was 3-1 to the Viola. Sergio Almiron picked up the MoM award but an equally good performance from debutant Rodrigo Mancha.

Manchester United, in a sensational deal have sold Wayne Rooney to Spanish side Valencia.
The deal saw Sanchez David Villa and Josue David Silva join McCandless' side. The two are expected to make their debut for Man United tomorrow night against local rivals Manchester City.

Villa and Silva will scare many defenses this season in the EPL!

Yesterday Manchester United also completed of Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi from Napoli. John O'Shea and Ji-Sung Park were the players used to make Lavezzi's move possible.

Lavezzi will bolster United's new exciting looking attack.

    Juventus Bring In New Recruits

    Four New Faces In Turin!

Since their disappointing defeat to champions Internazionale. Italian giants Juventus have managed to bring in four new players. The defeat against Inter saw Andrea Barzagli and Riccardo Montolivo make their debuts, but boss Sparky wasn't pleased with his team's performances and decided to add new faces to the dressing room.
The new look Juventus saw them get rid of club legend and arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, Gianluigi Buffon. The Italian number one headed to North London as Spurs were keen to snap him up.
In return came replacement goalkeeper Gomes (91) and gifted Croatian playmaker Luka Modric (91). Jonathan Woodgate is also expected to arrive in Turin tomorrow subject to a medical.
Sparky was pleased with the deal as said that he 'has more options' in the dressing room.
The duo are expected to make their debut against Udinese on Wednesday.

Another player to arrive was Italian winger Rosina. Juventus were short on wide players with Salihamdzic forced to play on the left, but with Rosina's addition, it means Juve now have 4 wingers in total including young starlet Giovinco. The young winger made way from rivals Torino, with Leggrotalie and Christiano Zanetti leaving in return.

Young English defender Nedum Onuoha also arrives for £6,000,000 from Eastlands.

Theres talks about Abidal going down
Instead you should go for Phillip Lahm (If he is available)
If hes not available then you should settle with Abidal, because I personally think he will stay at 94, but its debatable.
On the other hand Phillip Lahm is looking really good and for him right now Skys the Limit!

    Valencia land Zapata

Valencia have confirmed the signing of Colombian international Cristian Zapata from Udinese.
The 21 year old centre back moved to Valencia for a fee larger than the £15.8million originally accepted, as Udinese experienced a change in management, so Zapata becomes the most expensive player so far in the league, moving to Valencia for a sum of £21million.
Jad has admitted that a mass influx of world class players is "unlikely" due to the low sum of money he has. However he has promised good football and the team will challenge for promotion to division 1.

Zapata swaps Italy for Spain, but did his fee put a hole in Valencia's transfer kitty?

As said above, Valencia kick off their season at home to French side Marseille. Jad is expected to field his strongest side, featuring the Spanish trio of David Villa, David Silva, and Fernando Morientes

After hearing Tom Pham's reply to Sam's earlier criticism Sam had this to say "I am not going to get into a war of words with you as i would much rather have a war on the pitch. You may have won the league but in 2 years time all of your players will be long gone, in fact most of them will probably be on a life support machine they are so old. I would rather have a war on the pitch with you and we have had two so far and who won them?? I believe we won both of them didn't we, which proves we are a better team than you, you just got much easier games against the weaker forces in the league. You will be looking above yourself all season long Tom as i will take first spot with my Queensland side and personally i believe you may struggle to hang onto second spot. And finally if you wanted to buy youth you could have but you went for the glory in buying old players, you are a good scout why not use it....."

    Old Trafford Stunned!

    Manchester United 1-4 Arsenal

It was a historic day for Arsenal as Sparky's men have undoubtedly come away with their best result of the season. Nothing is more sweeter than a win against arch rivals Manchester United, and the best part was that it was in their opponent's own back garden.
Sparky, a supporter and former manager of Manchester United had revealed his ambitions for youth in the beginning of the season, and it seemed pundits all over the country were ruling them out of the title once again this season. However, despite it being early days, the Gunners, alongside Blackburn and Liverpool, have come away with three wins out of three and sit nicely in the league table.
The Gunners made two changes to the team that beat Portsmouth on Wednesday, French midfielder Gavanon came in central midfield to partner Cesc Fabregas, midweek hero Diaby switched to the left of midfield whilst Niklas Bendtner was replaced by summer signing Valeri Bojinov. The team sheet also Toure, Gallas, Walcott and Adebayor all start along teenage sensation Fabregas.
And despite it being a close match statistically with both teams somewhat sharing the possession and shots on goal, it was Londoners Arsenal who managed to take their chances as they scored four past a very strong United who boasted the likes of Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dimitar Berbatov and more.
English teenage sensation Theo Walcott opened the scoring on the 37th minute as he thumped in a brilliant 20 yard drive, the youngster opening his account for the season.

Walcott Scores A Brilliant Goal Past Van Der Sar

And that was the only goal of the half as both teams enjoyed an equally contested half and it was the same after the break as both teams came numerously close.
But it was Arsenal who managed to take their chances as they doubled their lead on the 47th minute through former skipper William Gallas, who was in brilliant form keeping Rooney, Berbatov and Ronaldo out of the picture. The French defender also bagging his first of the season.
And before you knew it, another flew in for Arsenal as want away striker Emmanuel Adebayor looks set to find form once again as he netted his second of the season after 60 minutes lobbing it over a hapless Van Der Sar.

Adebayor Scores A Brilliant Goal To Make It Three

Manchester United did pull one back however through Wayne Rooney...
But it was all Arsenal as new signing Valeri Bojinov scored minutes before the full time whistle with a magnificent right foot curling shot.
Manager Ahmed was delighted with his team's performances and told SkySports: "It's magnificent! I seriously didn't expect that. Many people, including me, thought it was going to be all United or a draw but my lads have proved that they are ready for whatever challenge comes their way. They had brilliant players on the pitch tonight but we managed to keep them quiet. It's still early days and we have another 35 games or so to play, but if it is anything we win this season, I want it to be the league."
Man Of The Match William Gallas then told SkySports: "It's err brilliant y'now. I didn't expect such a scoreline, and ze best thing was that I scored. I'm very happy and maybe we can go all the way this season"

OUCH! - Clichy To Miss Vital Clash Against Liverpool

French left back Gabriele Clichy will miss the league clash against high flying Liverpool as he was injured duing a tackle in his team's emphatic win against Manchester United. The 22 year old has started all three games for ARsenal helping them to three wins, but will miss the key fixture against the Reds. Manager Sparky is devastated at the injury and has blamed Manchester United and their reckless tackling. With Clichy out and no other left back in the squad, new singing Mikael Silvestre may feature against Liverpool, making his first start - hence his debut for the club

    #6 Ronald Vargas

Another player from Venezuela here, his name is Ronald Vargas, born on the 2nd December 1986 in Guatrie, Venezuela. He is currently 21 years of age and 1.74m in height.

    Vargas Shouting In Triumph.

Back in 2005, Vargas was in the Venezuela squad for the South American U17 Championship, although Venezuela only won one game, Vargas scored a couple of goals and gained some appearances at International level. First up were powerhouses Argentina, "La Vinotinto" succombed to a 0-3 loss and an immediate loss of morale. Vargas played 33 minutes after replacing Nicolas Feder in the 57th minute. A 3-3 draw with Bolivia followed, with Vargas replacing Ever Espinoza in the 39th minute. Venezuela's second loss came next though, with Coloumbia wrapping up a 0-2 victory. Vargas gained his first start however, and a full 90 minutes. "La Vinotinto's" first win came next, with a 3-0 thumping of Peru. Vargas was replaced by Elias Leal with 23 minutes of the match remaining. Venezuela did just enough to scrape through to the final stage. They did not have a good start, losing 0-1 to Argentina, with Vargas replacing Nicolas Feder in the 85th minute. Another 0-1 loss followed, this time against Brazil. Vargas again appeared as a late substitute, with Paul Ramirez making way in the 83rd minute. Chile proved too much for "La Vinotinto" in the next game, losing 2-3. Vargas scored twice, in the 42nd and 67th minute proving he was a starting 11 player. He played the whole match. Uruguay then beat Venezuela 1-2 to pile on the misery. For the second game running, Vargas played the full 90 minutes. Venezuela played Colombia in their final game, and they could not muster anything from it, losing 0-2, with Vargas playing a full match again. "La Vinotinto" gained no points and finished last in the group. Vargas was 2nd joint top scorer with 2 goals, behind Paul Ramirez (4) and equal with Nicolas Fedor (2).

In February this year, Vargas made his senior international debut for Venezuela against Haiti in a friendly. Four months later Venezuela gained a legendary 2-0 victory over Brazil, with Vargas on the scoresheet, his best international moment so far. Since then he has started 3 of "La Vinotinto's" games in the 2010 South American World Cup Qualifying section. The first came against Uruguay on the 14th June 2008, where Vargas scored in the 55th minute, before being replaced by Alexander Rondon in the 72nd minute. Five days later, Chile were the opponents, and Venezuela succombed to a 2-3 loss. Vargas started again, and was replaced by Tomas Rincon in the 60th minute. This month, on the 6th September 2008, Vargas started the match against Peru, before being replaced by Alejandro Abraham Guerra in the 66th minute. "La Vinotinto" lost 0-1.

    Regular Starter For Venezuela Now?

Caracas FC were Vargas' home from 2005 through to the 14th May 2008. Altogether he made 43 appearances, scoring 10 goals. The 2008 Copa Libertadores was the only competition where Vargas showed his capability on the entire South American scene. On the 12th February 2008 he started Caracas' first Group A match against Argentinean side, San Lorenzo. Vargas was booked in the 4th minute, played the whole match and his team won 2-0. A great start for Caracas. Real Potosi of Bolivia were next and Caracas gained their 2nd successive victory, winning 3-1. Vargas scored in the 38th minute, but was then sent off 6 minutes later, meaning he would miss the next match. Next up were group favouries Cruzeiro, from Brazil. With Vargas missing they struggled to a 0-3 loss. On the 18th March 2008, Cruzeiro were back in town and this time Caracas gained a creditable 1-1 draw. Vargas was back from suspension, straight back in the line up and played the full match. The 1st April 2008 saw "Los Rojos Del Avila" take on Real Potosi, if Caracas wanted to progress to the next stage they needed a win and they didn't get it. Potosi took the spoils 1-3, much to the disappointment of Caracas and their supporters. Vargas played the full match. San Lorenzo were Caracas' final chance to qualify, and once again "Los Rojos Del Avila" failed to show up, losing 0-3. Vargas captained the side, and was later replaced by Emilio Renteria in the 68th minute. He also picked up a booking in the 38th minute. Caracas finished 3rd in Group A, 3 points behind San Lorenzo and 4 behind Cruzeiro.

On the 14th May 2008, Club Brugge of Belgium secured the services of Ronald Vargas for the next 4 seasons, after buying the Venezuelan for £800,000 on a 4 year deal. After a long wait throughout pre season, Vargas made his competitive league debut for Brugge on the 29th August 2008 against Tupize. He came on as an 82nd minute substitute for Wesley Sonck, with Brugge winning 4-1. On the 13th September 2008, Vargas started for the first time in a Brugge shirt in a league match against Dender, he was replaced by Peruvian, Daniel Chavez in the 69th minute. 1-1 was the full time score. Yesterday in the Uefa Cup First Round, Vargas played the whole match for Brugge against BSC Young Boys of Switzerland, with a 2-2 draw the final result.

He Shone For Caracas, Now To Light Brugge Up.

Vargas usually plays as either an attacking midfielder, centre midfielder or right winger. Brugge seem to be playing him on the right side of midfield, however Venezuela tend to use him 'in the hole' behind Giancarlo Maldonado and Juan Arango.

Personal Viewpoint - If Vargas can hold a starting 11 place, he should be a hit in Belgium providing he doesn't suffer from the different style of play disease. £800,000 could well turn out to be a bargain.

    Portsmouth 0-1 Arsenal
    Abou DIABY (33)

An unimpressive second win for Arsenal as they just edged past Portsmouth. The Gunners had started with a win with an unconvincing win against Stoke, and their shaky form looked to continue as it was just a single goal which took home all three points back to North London.
The North London side had fielded the same team that beat Stoke on Saturday, except Bendtner came in for Bojinov, and the young center forward managed to come away with the Man of The Match award after his dazzling performance.
Portsmouth also fielding the same formation and team but were unlucky not to come away with a draw as they came close numerously with Papa Boupa Diop.
It took a 33rd minute Diaby goal to settle it in the end as the Frenchman shot from an acute angle which was luckily converted in.

Diaby Skips Past Portsmouth's Defoe Before Scoring

Manager Mitu Ahmed was at all not pleased with his team's performance but was happy that his team did get the win he had asked for. He told Arsenal, com: "Portsmouth are never an easy side, respects to them but I wanted the players to attack continuously and get some shots on target. Out of 16 shots, only four were on target which is ridiculous in my opinion. We face Manchester United tomorrow at Old Trafford. And to be truthful, I am not expecting anything from the game."
Captain Kolo Toure was later interviewed as he told BBC Sports: "It's good that we won but I felt that we could have come away with a bigger win. We kept possession like we do but only managed 3 or 4 shots on target."

Man Of The Match: Niklas Bendtner

The Gunners travel to Manchester United on Saturday. Boss Sparky has revealed that he isn't expecting anything from the match but will field his strongest team possible. The gaffer has also hinted that his new youth signings will be given a chance to shine in the English shield and F.A Cup.
Arsenal are currently third place behind Liverpool and surprise leaders Blackburn.

Nottingham Forrest back to where they belong !
    THE TOP FLIGHT !
Nottingham Forrest fans knows how prestigous there club history is as of late there fortunes have not been the best, at one point sinking to the third tier of English football, somewhere the former European Champions should not of been. Johson took over two seasons ago, and in that short space of time has transformed the clubs fortunes, squad and support.

As you can see Forrest dominated the division, droping a few points in the last few games of the season but that wasnt enough to take the shine of Johnsons season.
Johnsons team, scored and conceeded the least in the league, surely making them a team of class . . True Champions.

No one can doubt Johnsons record with Forrest as shown above, and the fans hope Johnson will stay for longer.
Johnson has alot to thank his squad for, with some members putting in exceptional performances. As seen below.

And here is the winning squad. Which as of course will be changed with the chairmans money.

    Villareal 1-3 Real Madrid
    Venue: El Madrigal
    Attendance: 22,073

A thrilling encounter between two os Spain's top guns as high flying Villareal went ahead against champions Real Madrid. Both teams had started well this season, but it was Los Merengues who came out the better side as they kept their unbeaten record in the league.
Villareal surprisingly leaving new summer signing Adrei Arshavin on the bench whilst the Galacticos carried on fielding the same team who have started so well in the La Liga. Van Nistelrooy and Eto'o continued leading the attack.
And there was no surprises as both striker managed to get on the score sheet.
Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o drilling a right foot shot home. The former Barcelona man starting sensationally at Madrid.
Villareal had equalized through Santi Cazorla who finished with an easy chance.
But it was all Madrid as Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored an amazing goal. And then Eto'o getting his second of the match with a brilliant right foot effort.
Eto'o, having a brilliant season in Madrid so far as he has scored six goals in six games with two man of the match performances.

    Two For Eto'o

Madrid lead the La Liga as they are unbeaten in the six games played. Getafe are surprisingly second whilst Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia and Villareal all struggle to find form.

    Salvatore Sirigu
Salvatore Sirigu is a Goalkeeper who currently plays for Ancone in Serie 'B', the 2nd highest Division in Italy.
Ancona are currently 18th in the League, having 1 point in 3 games, most recent of which in the 4-1 defeat to Parma. Sirgu is on loan from Palermo to gain more first team experience.
Salvatore Sirigu has made 2 appearances out of 3 so far for Ancona, he would have made three, but injury prevented him to be selected for the second match of the season. Before going on loan to Ancona, Sirigu has made appearances for Italy U-18, Italy U-19 and Italy U-21. He also went to Serie C1 side AS Cremonese where he made 19 appearances, conceding only 21 goals for the side. He has made 2 appearances for Palermo, one in the UEFA Cup against Fenerbahce and the other in the Coppa Italia, against Sampdoria, both were losses, but Sirigu played the full 90 minutes in both. He has made 185 minutes so far this season.
Salvador Sirigu is currently rated 76 on the Database and will definitely get higher when the Italian Rating Changes come. But when he returns to Palermo, he should be about 80 rated and maybe even be the Number 1 goalie for Palermo if he does well this season. If not, he will probably go out on loan but to a bigger club where he would take the #1 jersey again and get higher rating and be worth more than the £990,000 so he will be worth the punt.
This goalkeeper is one for the future.
