    New Era In Germany..!
Around 21.00 GMT last night, Werder Bremen appointed Irishman Kenneth McCandless as the clubs new manager. McCandless, who has previously had successful terms in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV, has set his sights on none less than the Bundesliga title as his main goal. The news of McCandless' appointment came just a few days after Thomas Schaaf got the sack

Thomas Schaaf (L) got the boot after a poor start to the season.
    Transfer News
After just a few hours in charge, Bremen put superstars Ribas Diego and Per Mertesacker on the transfer list. He told SMTV "It was a big decision to transfer list two of the clubs best players, but I feel it was the right one. In order to progress in each competition depth is the most important factor to any clubs success. For this reason I put Per and Ribas up for sale. Thus it will take a part exchange deal of up to two players, to secure the signature of each player".

Both players can go for the right deal
Other players put up for sale include Aaron Huntand Doran Tosic. McCandless said although the players aren't as highly rated as the other two, it may also take a part exchange deal to lure them away from the club.
Only one deal so far has been confirmed and it is that of Argentine forward Ezequiel Lavezzi. The fee paid for the goalscoring machine was Boubacar Sanogo and Croatian Jurica Vranjes. Lavezzi will now become the main target man for Bremen and will partner Swede Markus Rosenborg in attack.

"El Pocho" will relish the new challenge in Germany

Sparky reacted to Toro De Líbano in A promotion masterclass
I've been keeping tabs on a fair few leagues and have noticed that promoted teams from here, in the Prem, Championship etc, and from other countries, seem to be flying high in their respective divisions. And it made me wonder how these teams do it. Here's a list of teams I've come up with.
    Hull City
The side we all know about, they sit joined second in the Premier League after a quarter of the season gone. They have 20 points, and have lost just twice, albeit these were both home defeats, a thumping 5-0 home loss to Wigan and a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea. Hull's most famous win came at the Emirates, where they became only the second side, after West Ham, to beat Arsenal on their own ground. Goals from Giovanni and Daniel Cousin gave them a win after a Paul McShane own goal put the Gunners in front. Other notable victories include a 2-1 win over Newcastle at St James Park and a 3-0 win at West Brom, the side who won the championship last season to gain top flight status. Hull finished third, six points behind West Brom last season; beat Bristol City at Wembley to gain promotion to the Premier League. Their success is largely down to Phil Brown's summer signings. Giovanni from Manchester City, Marlon King from Wigan and Daniel Cousin from Rangers are Hull's main attacking threat and it is from them that Hull have prospered. Their goalkeeper Myhill has also had a part to play in their success so far..
    Swansea City
It seems Roberto Martinez and his men show no sign of tripping in the Championship. After comfortably winning league one with 92 points, 10 ahead of Nottingham Forest. This season they have made an excellent start, bagging 20 points in 13 games. They sit 11th in the table but are only two points off the play-offs. They have recorded impressive wins over Plymouth, Preston and second place Wolves and a 3-0 win over Southampton last Saturday. Their goals have been coming from Jason Scotland, Spanish midfielder Jordi and Netherlands Midfielder Freddi Bodde. Their keeper, Dours De Vries, has kept 6 clean sheets from the 12 games he has started for the Welsh side. And with Cardiff at the right end of the table too, we can't rule out two Welsh sides in the Premier League next season!
    MK Dons
After winning the Football League trophy last season, they continued their success in the league, winning league 2 with 97 points on the board. They now sit in 5th position in league 1, looking strong and with an excellent chance of gaining back to back promotions. Two of their best wins so far were over Milwall and Colchester - both away from home. Youngster Sam Baldock -only 19 years of age- has scored 8 goals from 10 starts this season and could be one the Dons may struggle to hold on to. MK Dons have the joined second best attack, along with Leeds, who are second only to league leaders Shorpe. The league 2 title and Football league trophy may have come under former England captain Paul Ince, but their league 1 form has been entirely down to Italian Roberto Di Matteo.
    Exeter City
It's surprising to see Exeter so high in League 2, considering not only did they finish 4th in the Conference, gaining promotion to the football league via the play-offs, but ended the season 18 points behind Conference champions Aldershot Town. Nevertheless, Exeter are fairing better than Aldershot in League 2. They sit fifth, in a play-off position. They have recorded some good wins, however, they have played against Shrewsbury and Bradford, who are in a similar positino to Exter and Exeter have been beaten by both. Despite beating Gillingham and Bury who sit just outside of the play-offs, their inability to beat teams already there could cost them a place in League 1 next season. Their top scorer is a defender, surprisingly. English 28 year old Matthew Gill with 6 goals to his name. Possibly Exeter's Joleon Lescott.
    Malaga C.F.
Moving away from England, Malaga have made an impressive start to their La Liga campaign. They sit sixth, higher than Atletico Madrid and Espanyol. What has got them to their position is their solid results at home and away. Nothing fantastic in either count, but at home they have the joined second best defence, with only Valencia able to better that. Similarly to Hull, Malaga have several players who are all on two goals each. I understand this is practically nothing, but it shows they do not rely on goals from just one source, which could be the reason behind their good start. Malaga finished second in the Segunda División behind Numancia, although they were joined on points with third place Sporting Gijon.
The Italian league has been one of the most surprising in Europe this season for the fact its big guns are not at the top where we'd expect them. One team who could benefit is promoted side Catania. They do not sit in a European place at the moment. They are in 8th after 8 games with 15 points, the same as Juventus. However the top of the table is tight and Catania are only five points behind leaders Udinese and Napoli, and just three behind Inter Milan, who occupy the final Champions League place. Although it is unlikely they will overthrow the Milan side, Napoli and Udinese do lack in quality and depth compared to Inter Milan and third place AC Milan, so Napoli and Udinese may struggle towards the latter end of the season. If so, Catania may benefit. Their home record is one of the best in the league, picking up 12 out of a possible 15 points. Only 7th place Genoa better that record with 15 out of 15. However their away record contrasts this, with three draws giving them all their points away from their home ground. Catania will need to improve their away record or keep up their immense home record if they are to stand a chance of finishing above the likes of Geno, Lazio and Fiorentina. Their top scorers are Guissepe Mascara and Guissepe Colluci, both with three goals.
The French league is a lot like our Championship. Even on the last game of the season anyone from first to 11th or even 12th could find themselves in the Premier League the following season, because one win could send you five or six places up the table and a loss could catapult you in the opposite direction. In Ligue 1 last season, there were just 10 points separating third and tenth, and it all makes for an interesting league. Onr of the promoted sides who could end up in a good position come next May, is Grenoble. They lie in 6th, six points behind Lyon but just3 off a Champions League spot after 11 games. It is ironic that they finished below fellow promoted sides Nantes and Le Havre yet are fairing far better thab both. Grenoble boast the joint second best defence in the league, conceding just 8 goals - less than Marseille, Bordeaux and Le Mans who are all higher in the table. They have beaten the likes of Monaco and PSG, but of their three loses, two have come to those close to them in the table - Lyon and Bordeaux. It is little shame on Grenoble that they are losing to these teams, but they must keep up their good form to stay away from the relegation zone as the French League is tight at both ends.
The final side I will write on, and I have saved the best for last. Hoffenheim play in Germany, and are currently the leaders of the German League, one point ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and four ahead of Bayern Munich. They have the joint best home record in the league with four wins and a single defeat, and only Martin Jol's Hamburg can emulate that record. They have also collected 9 points from a possible 15 away from home. They have beaten Hamburg 3-0 this season and Borussia Dortmund on their own ground 4-1 so these guys are no pushovers. The only worrying aspect is that they have conceded 15 goals in 10 games, but their attacking makes up for that with 27 goals already, an average of nearly three per game. They have proved they are valiant fighters, it what has been the game of the season in Germany so far, by pushing Werder Bremen as far as they could go;however it was in vain as Bremen came out eventual 5-4 winners. But Hoffenheim are top whereas Bremen are 10th. This team, if they continue their blistering start, could end up in an amazing position by next May.
I know it sounds I'm "bigging" these teams up at such an early stage of the season, but it astounds me that they are able to keep up with the big boys, and that the teams who went up with them are doing considerably worse. Take Swansea. They are 11th as I said, but Doncaster and Nottingham Forest occupy the two bottom places in the championship. With Malaga it is similar. They are sixth whereas Sporting Gijon are 13th and Numancia 16th, that is what makes the teams achievements even greater so far.
The only thing I'm concerned about is weather Second Season Syndrome will kick in. Remember West Ham? Finished 9th in their first season and got to the FA cup final, but nearly got relegated but for 7 wins in their final 9 games the following season. Reading were a whisker away from qualifying for the UEFA cup, finishing 8th in the league, but the following season got relegated to the Championship.
So my main question is how do these sides do it? The stats may tell us part of the story but what it is from these sides that allow them to get consistent wins and mix in at the top end of the table?
I think it's the mentality of going out on the pitch with a "we've got nothing to lose so let's get stuck in" attitude. They play like it's a cup final and for me that's what gets them where they are but I'm sure there are other reasons.

Hot Panamanian striker signs for Hércules on his 20th birthday

Gabriel Torres has been through a lot in 20 years. Gaby, as he is known, became, and still is, the youngest player to ever have played on the Panamanian national team. He made his debut at the age of 16. He captained, at the age of 18, Panama at the U20 World Cup. And he travelled to Europe to practice with Manchester United and Valencia, but got hurt in the first practice.
This season, he signed with La Equidad, runners up in Columbia. 7 goals in 20 starts later, he is now in Spain. He was signed on his twentieth birthday, and couldn't be happier.
He knows that he will be the third choice striker, but will try to learn from all the experience on the squad. He will get his debut on wednesday, against Real Sociedad.
Here is an overlook at the other signings made by Hércules.
Marc Janko - Signed from Rapid Vienna, where he had 14 goals in 10 matches this season. 1st choice striker, 25 years old.
Johnny Mirabal - The 18 year old Venezuelan has broken into Caracas FC and started all 12 matches of the Apertuna this season. Will share first choice RB duties.
Mathias Jørgensen - The 18 year old became a starter for FC København, now he will try to make a name for himself in Spain. Will be used about once every 4 games.
Yann Sommer - FC Basel hotshotstopper has been on loan in Vaduz for two years. Now, to Spain where he will support the aging Shicklgruber.
Ebrima Sohna - 19 year old Gambian led Sandefjord FC back to the Norwegian top-flight. Will try to do the same at Hércules. Shouldn't feature much this season.
Ideye Brown - 20 year old Nigerian made his name at the U20 world cup, like Sohna and Torres. He will not get a chance at Hércules, having been loaned out to Albacete.
Milan Badelj - Croatian midfielded has been given every chance at Zagreb. Not the case in Spain, he will try to make a name for himself at Hull City, in the Premiership.
Expected starting lineup v Cordoba :
    G - 84 - 28 - CATALAYUD
    RB - 82 - 18 - MIRABAL
    LB - 86 - 27 - DANI BAUTISTA

Real Madrid continued their unbeaten league form after an easy win against Vallodolid. Madrid fielded their reserves after their stars were given a rest due to the shocking defeat against Getafe on Monday.
And Los Merengues bounced back with second half goals from Pepe and Higuain.
With nearly half of the season played, Madrid remain unbeaten but face a tricky task as they go against America on Friday and a fearsome rivalry match against Barcelona the next day.

    Fans Furious...

    As Benitez Walks Out...

Just a few minutes ago, five times European Cup Winners Liverpool saw their Spanish manager Rafa Benitez leave the club after rows with club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillet. Many critics and pundits are unsurprised as the managerial saga at the Merseyside has been going on for months. It was reported that Rafa Benitez was unhappy with plans regarding Liverpool's new stadium and how much he had to spend in the summer. The Spaniard was left infuriated and decided to walk out. He told SkySportsNews:

    The Spaniard also added:

"And may the new manager have better luck and more control over the club than I did" - Benitez

And just hours after Benitez's departure, the club owners were on a mission to find a new man to succeed the Spaniard. Rafa Benitez's comments left the vacancy at Liverpool look unattractive, and therefore the job received rejection from the world's leading managers such as Roberto Mancini, Jose Mourinho, Claudio Ranieri and many more. But one man who was eager to manage the club was former GC19 Spartak Moskva manager Nasir Ali, who faced considerate success with his former club. The new man was unveiled straight after he signed his 4 year contract with the club and he told LiverpoolTV: "It's an absolute dream come true, this is my first shot with a massive club. I understand expectations will be high but I am prepared for these challenges mentally and physically. We have a good bunch of players and I cannot see why we cannot challenge for the title, FA Cup and Champions League this season."

    Success To Return To Liverpool?

    Liverpool Transfer News

New man Nasir Ali has stated that everyone bar Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres is available. The new manager believes that the trio will ne their key to success. The only man to be listed however is Irish striker Robbie Keane who has failed to impress.

Flipped Over - Keane To Leave After His Arrival?

Liverpool are desperately after a winger, an attacking midfielder and a center back. However, they do not want to sell their main trio for these players.

    Valencia 2 - 0 Athletic Bilbao
    Sanchez JOAQUIN (67)
    Josué DAVID SILVA (69)

    Man of the Match

    (Luis Miguel)

Tension was high at the Mestalla last night. Valencia had just suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Real Madrid a few nights ago and there was already doubt as to how good manager Rishabh Desai really is. Much to the relief of Rishabh, Valencia performed really well against Bilbao and earned a 2-0 victroy. This is what manger Rishabh Desai had to say:"Well, it is a really good way to start the new campain. We have responded well after the 4-0 hammering by Real Madrid. Hopefully we will continue to play well in our next few games and really get into a good start. We dominated possession. Bombarded the Bilbao goal with shots and i really think we deserved this win. Good start to the season from us !!!"
The game started off a bit slowly. Valencia were very cautious going foward. They took a bit of time to settle down. They did put some pressure on the Bilbao defence but produced nothing spectacular. David Sliva had a mixed half as he came really close to scoring but he also got a yellow card along with Raul Albiol. David Villa almost scored when his chipped ball beat the keeper but also went over the crossbar.
In the second half thought, things really opened up for Valenica. Suddenly they found themselves playing the freeflowing counterattacking footabll they are known for playing. In the 67th minute Valencia finally got the break when an excellect through pass from Villa set Jaoquin up who slid the ball under the keeper to register Valencia's first goal of the season !!!

(Scored Valencia's first goal of the season !!!)
Just two minutes later David Sliva hammered the ball in from 25 yards. Seening the keeper off his line, Silva smashed the ball past the helpless keeper giving Valencia a well deserved two goal lead.

    (Silva-Celebrating his cracker !!!)

Well done Gazz! England international soon!
I don't want this thread to be like GC22 all over again where people spam up the thread guessing when it is going to be made... Check every 15 minutes or so but keep the unneeded post to a minimum
I'm NOT gonna stay on as I said I was not gonna join any GC's. But if I am randomly browsing and a club is available then I will take it
Good luck to everyone going for it.
