    Division 2 decider???

    VAt Selhurst Park

    Position Team P W D L F A GD Pts
    1 Reading 32 20 6 6 80 40 40 66
    2 Crystal Palace 32 21 3 8 86 54 32 66
    3 Charlton Athletic 32 17 7 8 67 48 19 58
    4 Cardiff City 32 16 4 12 55 42 13 52
    5 Derby County 32 14 9 9 69 50 19 51
    6 Plymouth Argyle 32 14 5 13 47 39 8 47

With Reading losing at home 2-3 against Sheffield Wednesday in their last game and Crystal Palace winning away 2-0 against Burnley in theirs, meant the teams once again went onto level points at the top of the table, with Reading staying top on goal difference.
With 6 games left in the season and with both teams 8 points ahead of 3rd place Charlton Athletic should mean they both steer clear of the play-offs and are both guranteed a place in division 1 next season unless a major shock happens!
Both Reading and Crystal Palace have had similar results all season and stayed within 3 points of each other most of the way. Which means this saturdays game at Crystal Palace between the 2 could be the decider of who finishes champions!

Marseille look to make late dash into the top three

Pre-season Marseille signing Marouane Fellaini has sparked a revival in the French sides' ranks and he got two in their 5-2 win over Sochaux tonight. At one dismal point in the season the French side were terribly underachieving as they had lost eleven matches in sixteen, which was not the form they would need to challenge for top spot. However, since their loss to Toulouse on August 23rd, Marseille have lost only once in Ligue 1 and have racked up emphatic wins over Grenoble, Rennes, Caen, Nantes and tonight against Sochaux. Although Fellaini has been a stick-out performer in the last month or so, stars such as Lorik Cana, Djibril Cisse and Mahamadou Niang have all reached peak performances and are on top form at the moment. Philp can only hope that his side keep up the wins, and go top three.

Benfica One Point From the Title
Benfica last night took a significant step towards winning the Portuguges League, as their rivals Sporting Lisbon, Vitoria de Setubal, and Beleneses all drew, as a brace from D.Bobo, gave Benfica a 2-0 win over Nacional de Madeira, This now leaves Benfica 8points ahead with 3games to go. Their next match is against FC Porto, with their last matches against Sporting Braga, and their final match against Sporting. They will want the title wrapped by the Sporting game however, as Internationals are being played the day before the final day of the season, and Oscar Cardozo is one of many who will be unavailable

    North London Thriller!

    Late Arsenal Goals Deny Spurs

    Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham Hostpurs

    Aaron LENNON (16)
    Roman PAVLYUCHENKO (29)
    Niklas BENDTNER (85)
    Emmanuel ADEBAYOR (87)

The fierce rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs continued as Sparky's Arsenal battled against Tebthereb's Spurs.
Arsenal, always the favourites when it comes to the North London derbies, somewhat needed rescuing at the end.
The Gunners made 10 changes to the squad who beat Rochdale in the F.A Cup on Monday. The team sheet saw Bakary Sagna back after suspension, with Bojinov starting ahead of Bendtner due to his recent form.

But the Gunners looked nowhere near as threatening as Pavlyuchenko, Lennon and Jermaine Jenas came close for Spurs in the early minutes of the half.
It was just a matter of time and unsurprisingly, English winger Aaron Lennon opened the scoring as he slotted the ball from fifteen yards. The Arsenal defense cut in half with the flamboyant winger capitalizing.

    Lennon - Seconds Before Scoring

Arsenal tried giving a quick response but saves from Gomes denied Diaby and Gavanon.

And after just 13 minutes of taking the lead, the North London whites scored again, through Russian star Roman Pavlyuchenko with a magnificent overhead kick. The new man really showing his worth as the home side lay there bewildered.

Thumbs Up - Pavlyuchenko Scores A Screamer

Half time saw the Gunners losing 2-0, a very frustrated Sparky lead his team out in the second half demanding a response.
And a response was exactly what him and the fans received as Arsenal pushed and pushed. But saves from Gomes meant the home side had to wait until the last minutes to get back into the game.
Super sub Niklas Bendtner made a quick impact with a brilliant goal. He tuned past two Spurs defenders and fired in a low shot. Gomes having no chances whatsoever.

    Bendtner Scores Past Keeper Gomes

And just a couple minutes later, Togolese striker Emanuel Adebayor equalized for his team as he rounded past the keeper with an easy finish. Adebayor making the most of the errors made by the opposition defense. Adebayor leveling the scoring in this brilliant North London thriller!

    Adebayor Saves Arsenal

Fortunately for Arsenal, league rivals Liverpool also drew meaning they were behind due to goal difference only. Boss Sparky has said that his team needs to beat teams like Spurs and 'Boro if they are to progress. North Londoners Arsenal have already defeated Manchester United and Liverpool in three days.

The Gunners will now travel to West London as they play fellow city rivals Fulham.

    Chelsea start season in style..

    Chelsea 5-2 Watford

Tonight Chelsea welcomed Premier League new boys Watford who finished second in the Coca-Cola Championship last season to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea manager Louis Mattis knew it was important for his team to get there first game of the season off to a good start. Chelsea dominated 51% possession, with 12 out of 17 shots on target. 42,380 fans watched the game.
Chelsea should of been 2-0 up within the first three minutes of the game, Joe Cole came close in the second minute, followed by Ashley Cole missing a open goal in the third minute. Chelsea finally broke the deadlock in the fourth minute, Dider Drogba with a diving header at the back post. Chelsea went 2-0 up, one minute later, Chelsea playmaker Frank Lampard allowed to much space by the Watford defence, and making no mistake from ten yards. Chelsea scored there third of the match in the fourteenth minute, Drogba in the right place, at the right time, to rise above his marker and head the ball into the far corner of the Watford net to score his second goal. Michael Essien picked himself up a yellow card on the twenty fifth minute, but could of put Chelsea 4-0 up in the twenty sixth minute, but his curling shot just went wide of the near post. Watford scored there first goal of the afternoon three minutes past the half a hour mark, Watford forward Tommy Smith superbly controlling a lob through-ball and smashing the ball past the motionless keeper. The score was 3-1 to Chelsea at the break.

(Goals from Drogba (2), and Lampard gave Chelsea a 3-1 lead at half time)

Watford scored there second goal of the match through Smith, who had also scored in the first half, hitting the ball early, leaving Cech stranded. Chelsea put themselves two goals back into the lead in the fifty seventh minute, Ashley Cole finishing neatly inside the box. Chelsea made it five, one minute later, Drogba completing his hat-trick climbing over his marker, and heading the ball into the roof of the net.

When asked about the great victory, Chelsea manager Louis Mattis said the following:

"It's a great victory for the team, we showed the other teams in the Premier League what we can do, and what we will do to win the Premier League title this season, Drogba played fantasticly, and his hat-trick will lift the whole team's morale and give him a early lead in the scoring charts".

(A goal from Drogba to complete his hat-trick and a goal from Ashley Cole sealed the 5-2 victory for Chelsea)

Then Fabrizio Miccoli put Palermo level in the 68th minute with an excellent header. At this point Palermo thought they had grabbed the draw or could have go on to win but Hernan Crespo put Inter in the lead yet again as he finished off a slick passing move with a clever finish.
This is what Inter's manager Marios Tofaris had to say after the match " What a game! We thought we had got the three point's from the first half but credit to Palermo who battled well and got back to make it 2-2 but we carriedon playing our football we didn't stop after they equalised and we managed to score and win the game 3-2. Transfer News
Reports claim that a fee has been agreed with Valencia for Ryan Giggs. The United legend was reported as saying that it was his decision to leave, stating the warm weather was too good to turn down!
The deal may consist of Juan Manuel Mata and Dominguez Pablo Hernandez joining United. At the moment the chairman is reluctant to let the deal go through, but McCandless is optimistic that a deal can be done if the initial deal falls through.
If the deal is completed, Mata and Pablo Hernandez would join former teammates Villa and Silva at United in a Spanish revolution!

McCandless is a huge fan of Mata
McCandless is said to be in search of a 90+ defender to complete the squad. Hargreaves is still available after rejecting bids from Chelsea and Tottenham for the England international. A defender, preferably 89+, and a replacement 87+ is said to be all it would be to secure his services.

Will this be the last time Hargreaves is seen in a United shirt?

    4-0 Leeds Make It 6!
Leeds are now 8 games undefeated, and have won the past 6 matches on the trot. The win moves them 4 points clear of Tranmere in 4th, and 11 points ahead of 7th place Southend. Leeds are 3 points off Leicester in the Auto Promotion spots.
A straight-forward victory for Leeds, hammering Walsall 4-0. A brace for Mpenza, and goals for Maierhofer and Rosales gave Leeds the victory, and kept up there super form. Next up is Cardiff at home in the QF of the Cup. Big game for Leeds, but Sefton says he is not fazed by the Div 2 big boys, but thinks it will take a lot to overcome their opponents and believes the chances of reaching the Semis are minimal.
Despite scoring 2 goals tonight, Mpenza looks on his way out of the club. Sefton says with Ianu and Barbosa on loan, he will be struggling to get into the team, and he is looking to replace him with a younger F. It is believed Sefton has put in an offer for £1.04m for Sergio Aguero. It is believed Aguero's club are considering the offer, but Sefton does not want to go further. Sefton has said Aguero would be backup to Ianu and Barbosa if he was signed.

    Dominant Inter Edge Past Newcomers

    Internazionale 1-0 Messina

The scoreline didn't do Internazionale justice as the Italian giants dominated new boys Messina. Internazionale boss Sparky revealed his disappointment about last season's outcome and has said that if his team are to progress, then games like these are vital.
The Internazionale team sheet saw numerous changes. Argentine defender Demichelis started ahead of Chivu, new boy Xabi Alonso took Vieira's place in midfield and new young starlet Kun Aguero partnered Diego Forlan.
And the Coppa Nazionale winners started like they meant business as new defender Demichelis finished off after some clever passing. The Ex Bayern man getting his first of the season.
Inter pushed and pushed and came close several times as Aguero, Forlan and Cambiasso missed some great chances.
Messina did come close but goalkeeper Julio Cesar keen to make an impression as the Brazilian took last year's last day defeat on his shoulders.
Internazionale won the match comfortably with a shaky scoreline and will want to continue as they face new table toppers Chievo in their secodn game.

It seems that Spanish champions Real Madrid transferred their league form into the Champions Cup as Sparky's men yet again grabbed another win. The whole of the first team were back as they were rested in the win against Numancia on Wednesday.
The squad welcomed back Samuel Eto'o, Van Nistelrooy and Engliss winger Joe Cole. Along with Brazilian defender, who stepped in for Italian defender Barzagli.
And it was Alex who got the first goal of the match on the 35th minute with a very embarassing mis-shot, however, the former Chelsea man will still claim it.
And after the break, two quick goals from dutch sensation Rafael Van Der Vaart finished off the match. The former Hamburg man showing brilliant technique ans ability as he scores his sixth goal of the season.

Ex Hamburg Man VDV Proving To Be A Real Success

Madrid now top group B with three points, Mexican's America also follow suit but a difference in goals scored means Los Merengues are where they belong.

Wow, so much rivalry before the match has even begun! I Love it!
To be fair, I couldn't bother about who wins / who loses. I just want Atletico Madrid to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
We have a brilliant squad, and like Liverpool, I think we are also among the favourites to qualify.
Talking about who is better than who - I think the partnership between Ujfalusi a Heitinga is better than Carra and Skrtel. And not because I support Madrid, but for all the reasons mentioned above / below. Carra has to bail Skrtel out numerously. I think Carra is probably the only defend whom we can rate out of the two.
Aguero, I feel is a superstar. Someone who is only 20, he is immense.
And if you do compare him and Torres together, then I don't think there would be much difference. Both world class strikers.
About the fixture. Obviously I want Atletico Madrid to win, at the Calderon especially. A draw would do at Anfield
The Atletico squad is good, but injuries to Heitinga will cost us I feel. Barcelona next and 'Pool in two weeks time.
    Should be interesting
