  3. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread I don't think I said that anyone will buy him from Atletico. I myself think he won't move to a bigger club now. And I said in my post few teams can afford him-only the biggest:confused: and it was 45 million for two players, not just Falcao. You quoted me and questioned me but haven't said much different? And as for a bigger team than Atletico-well who? United/Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal don't really need him (they have enough options or other positions they need to strengthen more). Spurs simply cannot afford the outright cost. Bayern don't need him, Inter have a lot of forwards already, Milan he wouldn't start really etc. So he has a choice of starting for Atletico or being a bench player at a bigger club I think. At 25 he is not a young prospect any more and should be starting if possible. And as for Porto being a strong team I think we should wait and see what happens in the Champions League. The UEFA super cup should also be ain interesting game since one person posted on here that Barca and United would have to "eat grass" if they played Porto lol
  4. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread Playing in Portugal he will be in the majority of games (the league) be against very small teams. Benfica and Porto are quite good, Sporting OK and the rest not as good as Spain. And as for the Champions League the optimism that was around Porto has very quickly disappeared with Andre Villas Boas and players leaving. What I am saying is that while Porto are in the Champions League at Atletico he can replace Aguero (starting oppurtunity if he plays well) as well as play week in week out against much better players. Porto are not likely to do well in the champions league (looking back at people who predicted them "quarter finals at least" on this thread and so on must feel silly now:p) so its not a huge loss. At 25 years old if he didn't take this ideal oppurtunity for him few will come again in the future. Only the biggest teams can pay 25 million and they already have good forwards (Chelsea, etc) so a move to a mid level club I feel is a better move. He could easily get more money at Atletico compared to Porto as well which always helps deals go through. For me its a choice between going to a big club who have a ready made place for him now although missing out on a most likely uninspiring Champions League run or staying, doing not too good in the UCL and not getting the oppurtunity to move to a club where he will have an as high chance as suceeding.
  5. Re: Official Red Devils thread De Gea has twice now put United in a more difficult situation than they would like.. His mistakes are so simple so I am sure he will correct them quickly but for now Lindegaard should get his chance. If De Gea starts next game the opposition will certainly feel more confident and the United players less so IMO. Young looks to be a great player as well-Rooney had a decent game as well. Nani unluckily couldn't convert chances. Anderson I also felt was decent. Fabio was good going forward but defensively a little poor at times I think. Smalling looked good even at RB. I think Berba should just leave-his work rate and body language is just poor. I don't mind the body language but if his work rate is that poor when he comes on as a second half sub he deserves to be down the pecking order. Maybe he feels he should start and is upset but he scored many in a few games last season and missed chances in big games (City for example) so was not a consistent threat IMO Rio out for 6 weeks, Rafael 10 weeks http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/943878/ferdinand-ruled-out-for-six-weeks?cc=5739
  6. Re: Official Chelsea FC Thread Torres was great but Chelsea lacked the midfield creativity I feel. Mikel has his role, as does Ramires so Lampard really had to make more of the game then he did. Chelsea easily could have won that game though.
  7. Re: Official Red Devils thread Trapattoni has said in the past that he would benefit from first team football. Staying and fighting for your place is good-look what it has done for Nani. But when you are no longer considered a young prospect but you are getting further and further down the pecking order I think it is strange to say that not playing will "better him as a player". Playing reguarly, week in week out, could easily be a bigger learning curve I feel. He played well for Ireland-I saw the game but the ref did miss two blatant penalties for Croatia and with Ireland having such little possesion I myself wouldn't say Kranjcar and Modric were marked out of the game (Ireland only had 35% of possesion!). Players like Brown, Oshea, Obertan, Tosic have all left as they had improved at United but not enough to make the grade and I personally feel Gibson is in the same situation-all of the above are good but such a strong team is too much for them. If United can match the wembley second half performance then the opening match today will be a great game!
  8. Re: Official Arsenal Thread When I saw a red card in the headlines I thought Barton. When I saw he was involved I thought he must have been sent off. But it turns out he is kind of the victim:D:D!!! I must lose my prejudice clearly
  9. Re: Official Red Devils thread At least with Cleverly, Pogba and Morrison around Gibson won't be relied on for a squad place. But I think its strange that he hasn't moved club since by being so far down the pecking order he is hardly helping his chances for an Ireland call up-Premier League clubs would still be interested in him surely, and not just relegation battlers either? Maybe he doesn't mind being a squad player, maybe other teams don't want to match the asking price/salary I guess but I would have thought he would have welcomed a move.
  10. Re: Official Liverpool Thread Sunderland may have deserved a red (haven't seen it yet) but stranger things have happened before (beach ball:p) How did the new signings play (Adam, Downing, Henderson, Carroll sort of since he didn't play much last season). In the centre it seems likely that one of those will be dropped for Gerrard and I was a little surprised to see Meireles dropped since I thought he was pretty good last season. Game wasn't on sky:(

  12. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Oxlade Chamberlain has been fined two weeks wages for stating his desire to leave Southampton according to various newspapers. Arsenal have always been the frontrunners to sign him really but at 10 million for an unproven player while he may want Arsenal and vice versa his unhappiness doesn't really make the deal any closer really due to the excessive demands I think. Although quality players like Smalling can appear despite a lack of first team high quality football. But for every Smalling there is the potential for it to turn into a Bebe so a risky deal for Arsenal who already have a fair few wingers as well.
  13. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Arsenal's first eleven hasn't performed and the second eleven can't provide cover. But then again poor depth is fine you seem to think. Well lets see if other sides in Europe (WHO ARSENAL ARE SUPPOSED TO BE COMPETING WITH) cope with depth quality. Madrid have Coentrao' date=' Arbeloa, Diarra or Khedira, Sahin, Kaka, Benzema or Higuain on the bench. Barca obviously have great quality-no need to debate. United have Smalling, Jones, one of the twins, Carrick or Anderson, Park and Nani or Young, Berbatov. You can continue the list yourself with Inter, Chelsea, etc. Saying Jagielka is average is what I said-him and Cahill are too average to help Arsenal. Gervinho is not a proven match winner to help break into the top two for Arsenal also.[/color'] If it upsets people that this is a fact then tough-its just a fact that players like Gervinho are not enough of a step in the right direction when Barca youngsters and some unproven u-19 side back comes in also.
  14. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Arsenal are supposed to be one of the best teams in the world. It was not beyond Arsenal to win the Champions League too long ago and expectations and/or hopes are still around there. Arsenal can sign players who are biggish names, but to return to the quality of their past the likes of Jagielka and Cahill (an example of another position) are simply not good enough. Schezny, Chamakh, Cahill, Jagielka, Koscielny, Eboue, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Djourou, Diaby, Rosicky, Eboue, Arshavin, Vela and I am sure you can think of many more have all been O.K players. Good for top four but not really enough to push on. People may feel some of the above are good, but the majority are decent. Gervino is hardly an experienced head to break the mould. What I am saying is that another top four quality player is not going to help Arsenal-they need match winners. Experience. Compare Arsenal's keeper, central defence, forwards, side backs to Barca, Madrid, United, Chelsea (the teams that Arsenal could challange before) and tell me that the likes of Jagilka and Cahill can really lessen the gulf in quality.
  15. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Yeah-a small ask that:D Add a couple of defenders, a midfielder and a striker-how much will that cost? Not an easy thing to ask for. Only four more players with a manager who moves oh so slowly in the transfers and settles for youth products (new Spaniards for example). Decent signings mind-signing players who are unheard of doesn't count towards reinforcements. I mean at least Liverpool have signed some players with proven quality-Suarez, Carroll and Downing have played some decent football-not players like Jenkinson or whatever. Henderson also in the EPL-not completely unproven teens. Looking at the positions that you mentioned I wouldn't be surprised if Wenger signed another youngster so that they could eventually develop into the next Denilson/Bentder/Clichy. I just find it strange an Arsenal fan calling a "Liverpoo'" squad "horrendous" when many of Arsenal's signings have been youngsters who fail to make the grade:confused:. What I am saying is that while both Liverpool and Arsenal want to improve, Dalgish is signing players with relatively much more experience than Arsenal has tended to in the last few years:) no offence
  16. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Bite me:D as 123 ABC said above if Cahill is available at least Arsenal can't be held to ransom and both players would most likely jump at the chance for a top four club (Cahill more IMO). And both if they play well could get into the England set-up so that is an incentive for a higher level of football.
