  1. Re: World Champ 1 Juventus avoid relegation after Berbatov brace at Camp Nou Mission accomplished! After taking over late in the season, when Juventus were all but relegated, I've managed to turn around the team with 8 wins from 11 games. On top of which we have now cleared out the dead wood and have a fine blend of youth and experience to challenge for honours next season. Onward and upward!
  2. Re: South American Young Talents I am tempted to sell Alex Sandro Silva to raise funds for new acquisitions. I know he has played for the national team in a couple of friendlies but does it look likely that he will make the step up in class needed to take him beyond a 90 rating? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Re: Gold Championship 6 RANGERS LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER GREAT SEASON After completing the Scottish league and cup double last season Rangers manager Jimmy Mack is looking forward to defending those titles as well as chasing European glory. " Whilst we are sad to have lost Dado Prso, who has now retired, we are fortunate to have Kris Boyd leading the line for us this season. With Nacho Novo and Dawid Janczyk, as well as new signings Erwin Hoffer and Leroy George, we are confident we will not be lacking up front in the new campaign. That's not to say we will not be augmenting the squad defensively in the coming weeks." One early fixture that catches the eye is the "Old Firm" clash in the first round of the Scottish Shield.
  4. Re: Gold Championship 8 - Transfers, Rumors & Match Reports EVERTON BRING ENGLISH CUP HOME The blue half of Merseyside was out in force yesterday to welcome home the teams return with the English Cup. Man of the match Yakubu had opened the scoring just after half-time with a screamer into the top corner, before inspired signing Tom Soetaers settled it late on with a diving header. Manager Jimmy Mack said " Now that we have achieved our primary objective of putting silverware in the trophy cabinet we can concentrate on a top 8 league finish".
  5. Re: World Champ 1 JUVENTUS OUT OF BOTTOM 3 So far so good. I'm beginning to turn the team around and with a fully fit squad we should be able to avoid relegation.
  6. Re: World Champ 1 So I guess this is the current thread for WC 1 ??? I've just swapped a very good Lyon team for the struggling giant that is Juventus in this setup and hope to turn them around. Just looking at some of the other managers (and squads) I know it won't be easy. Let the battle commence! JM
  7. Re: Gold Championship 8 - Transfers, Rumors & Match Reports Well, weakened team or not, it looked like you played your first choice defence and we managed to break you down without conceding. I guess you have to "do a Rafa" when you're chasing so many trophies and something will inevitably fall through the cracks - in this case the English Cup. Looking forward to the rematch in the League. All the best, JM
  8. Re: Gold Championship 8 - Transfers, Rumors & Match Reports EVERTON SHUT OUT CHELSEA TO BOOK WEMBLEY FINAL Everton came to Stamford Bridge on Monday and executed a perfect game plan to earn their place in this season's English Cup final. Manager Jimmy Mack cited this as equalling the team's performance when they went to Anfield earlier in the season and took all 3 points. Playing a defensive 4-5-1, Everton soaked up early Chelsea pressure in the opening 20 minutes before stunning the home side when Yakubu scored with a fantastic header from a Hibbert cross. Emboldened by the early breakthrough, the Toffees continued to press and deservedly went two up when man of the match Mikel Arteta hammered home after 31 minutes. Thereafter Everton kept the home side subdued and now look forward to giving their fans the ideal Xmas present at Wembley on December 24th.
  9. Re: Gold Championship 5 official match thread FC Zurich have all but clinched the Central European division in their first season under their new manager. However the high point of the season had to be clinching a place in the last 16 of the Champions Cup after doing the double over Barcelona with an inexperienced young squad. The Chairman and fans are looking forward to even greater success next season! Thanks must go to all the managers who have loaned us players this season, in particular: Aston Villa for Martin Laursen - who has been a rock at the centre of defence; Espanyol for Valter Birsa - who has been an inspiration leading the line and Tottenham for Artur Wichniarek - who has been invaluable in the final stages of the campaign. ZURICH SUPPORTERS PLAYER OF YEAR: WALTER BIRSA 15 Goals; 10 Assists; 13 MOM Awards in 29 appearances
  10. Re: 10K PLAYER ALERT!!! I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Paul Baysse: Age: 19yrs Born: 18 May 1988 Nationality: French Position: Centre Back Rating: 70 Played well in the U-21 World Cup and scored a cracking goal from full-back! I have him wherever possible in all my teams and must be due a substantial upgrade.
  11. Re: Gold Championship 5 official match thread FC Zurich manager Jimmy Mack welcomes new FC Basel Gazza Thomas to the Central European League and looks forward to some competitive matches.
  12. Re: Gold Championship 5 official match thread There are scenes of mass jubilation in Zurich tonight as the Swiss minnows sit proudly atop their Champions Cup group after seeing off both Barcelona and Real Betis on their own turf in successive weeks. Manager Jimmy Mack paid tribute to his young squad saying " I'm chuffed that these youngsters have been able to play to such a consistently high level, week in and week out. always willing to dig deep when it mattered. Of course none of this would have been possible without the inspirational example of those wise old heads Hannu Tihinen and Martin Laursen (on loan from Aston Villa) but overall EVERYBODY has played their part. Tonight we celebrate but tomorrow it's back to work as usual in the domestic league before planning an assault on the last eight of the ultimate prize." 13. Re: Gold Championship 8 - Transfers, Rumors & Match Reports Yeah, I did and posted to that effect several pages back.
  14. Re: Gold Championship 8 - Transfers, Rumors & Match Reports In light of the 35 Million paid for Bojan, Everton have let it be known that they are willing to entertain bids in excess of 60 Million for Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan! Seriously though, Andy Van Der Meyde is available to serious bids. It's common knowledge that the player is unhappy at Goodison and fresh scenery should result in an upturn in his form. A straight swap for a young LB/LM would be considered.
  15. Re: Gold Championship 8 - Transfers, Rumors & Match Reports With the season now underway Everton manager Jimmy Mack has stated that with the current hyper inflation in the transfer market he is quite happy to take his chances with his current squad. Eyebrows were raised this week with the departure of Andy Johnson to Aston Villa but as Mack explained " I had to be honest and tell the lad that I couldn't guarantee him a place in the starting line-up, other than cup games this season, so he might be better off taking his chances elsewhere". Also departing were Nuno Valente Stefan Wessels, Alessandro Pistone and Alan Stubbs, with Tom Soetaers coming in to fill the hole on the left side. "I'm very excited to get Tom to join us, as things didn't really work out for him at Ajax". I think he's a great signing who will more than repay the 8.3 million we paid for him". Also coming in are the youngsters Curtis Davies, Marco Hesina and Lee Williamson and south americans Elkin Mosquera, Gary Kagelmacher and Christopher Toselli. On the field Mack said he was satisfied with the performance of his team in their 2-1 win over Wigan but felt that there was still improvement to come. "I think the visit to West Ham on Wednesday will probably provide a sterner test of where we stand right now".
  16. Re: Gold Championship 5 official match thread Has anybody else noticed the following apparent glitch: My FC Zurich just played their Champions League home tie against AEK Athens, who appear to have been fielding an unfit team recently. Despite the fact that 9 of their 10 outfield players had a fitness rating of 1 (!) and I was playing a fast tempo game, to exploit this perceived weakness, they still managed to win 2-1!!!! Does this mean that all we have to do is pick our best team week in and week out? Surely this makes a mockery of team selection/squad rotation etc. I hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes but it sure leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
  17. Re: Gold Championship 8 - Transfers, Rumors & Match Reports Everton Football Club unveiled their new manager Jimmy Mack at Goodison today. Jimmy remarked "it's great to be back in English football, the best league in the world" and that his most urgent task would be to augment the existing squad and "building a team that can compete for European honours". With Saturday's opening fixture at home to Wigan he is expected to announce a couple of key signings in the next few days, however he added " I'm happy with the players I have and will not be rushed into blowing the budget unless I see a definite need".
  18. Re: Gold Championship 5 official match thread F.C. ZURICH IN URGENT APPEAL FOR LOAN STRIKER F.C. Zurich manager Jimmy Mack today made an urgent appeal for the loan of a striker to replace Walter Birsa who was recalled to Valencia without notice! In a brief statement Mack said " Frankly I feel sorry for the boy as he had made a great impression here, scoring six goals in as many games but my hands are tied if Valencia want to take their player back. Still, a little warning would have been nice. Our problem now is that with a domestic campaign to conduct, as well as the Champions league looming, we are a little bit short of firepower up front. If anyone can loan me a striker (rated between 86 and 88), for the rest of the season I would be extremely grateful. Failing that a short-term loan would at least help us out until some of our home-grown talent comes through the ranks."
  19. Re: Gold Championship 5 official match thread FC Zurich manager Jimmy Mack admits that his young side face a tough challenge on Saturday when they host local rivals Grasshoppers in the season opener. " On the basis of what I've seen in pre-season, we more than make up in commitment and drive what we lack in experience. One area where experience is definitely not lacking is at the heart of the defence where Hannu Tihinen and Olaf Lindenbergh, on loan from Ajax, have already struck up a great understanding. I'm also very excited to have Valter Birsa, the exciting young Slovenian striker, on loan from Espanyol for the season. Final mention should be made of young goalkeeper Steve Mandanda from Le Havre who will be vying with Johnny Leoni for the green jersey in the coming months. In fact most of our summer signings will be pushing for a first team place before this season is out and no-one should assume that they have a guaranteed place in this team. That's why I've focussed on bringing in young players who are willing to work hard and get results rather than a couple of big names that get the fans excited and sell a few more season tickets."
  20. Re: Gold Championship 5 official match thread F.C. Zurich have announced that their new manager is to be Jimmy Mack. The chairman's statement reads: " We are fortunate to bring such a highly motivated young manager to the Letzigrand and look forward to a very successful season. Jimmy has already been active in the transfer market strengthening the squad with a clear emphasis on youth. We know that the Champions League challenge ahead will be difficult but are confident that the experience will hold us in good stead for the future".
  21. Re: Greetings Thanks for the kind words. I'll take your advice, look around the threads and contribute where I think I have something to add (time permitting). Looking forward to the challenge of Gold Setup 5 with FC Zurich as well as qualifying my Rangers team for the Champions League in Gold Setup 6. All The Best, JM

Hi, I have been playing soccer manager now since the spring and finally bit the bullet about a month ago and signed up for gold membership. I have acquired a full allotment of clubs but the following are the only ones I have started a new season with (or will soon be starting a new season with): Sevilla WC 463 Roma WC 117 Valencia WC 87 FC Zurich GC 5 My other clubs are currently 'works in progress' but I hope they be where I want them by the time their new seasons start. Just want to say that SM is the best website on the internet and may it go from strength to strength. If you know my Roma side you will have an idea of my strategy, which is to built a strong youth squad based on extensive scouting reports. I would like to test my youth team against other teams in a series of friendlies if anyone would be interested. My only stipulation would be that they be genuine members of the youth squad and not just first team players who happen to be under 21 (ie Fabregas, Messi, etc). Also while I'm on my soapbox: would it be possible to update Score Centre to be more relevant. Why for example is there a designated penalty taker in 'Tactics' when there are never any penalties? Or less yellow cards for time-wasting for players whose teams are losing!!! These are obviously minor points in the grand scheme of things that have probably been dealt with elsewhere and, when I can tear myself away from playing the game, I'm sure I'll enter the debate on them in due course. Ciao for now, JM
