    Italy – drseanfitz
    Spain - Ray1981
    The Winners
    MarkM and Ray1981
After quitting the set-up following a row with a team mate, this award should have been MarkM’s outright, however Ray appeared out of nowhere towards the end of the season, bemoaning such things as money, tactics, formations and even the definition of ‘2 points dropped’, and suddenly Mark had competition, Ed had company, and Sean had somebody else to disagree with
2 -Forgot you were here Award
    Nominees
    England - Wolfy102 (22 posts)
    Germany - Venk.11 (9 posts)
    Italy – Gozzy (18 posts)
    Spain - Preppens (46 posts)
    The Winner
    Venk.11
Did anyone even know he was in the set-up??
3 -OMG, give somebody else a chance to post something Award
    Nominees

    Germany - Likeaboas (66 posts)
    Italy – drseanfitz (171 posts)
    Spain – Ashtini (123 posts)
    The Winner
    Ed Moses
Team England’s very own motor mouth came out on top of both the vote and the post count.
Barely a day goes by without young Ed posting about how successful his Southampton team have been this season, and how perfect every little detail of the set-up has been since day one. And if you are very lucky, you may even be able to catch him in a rare exchange of opinions with sean.

I'll post some more of these next week, but here is the next.....
    End of Season Summary

    Team: Burnley
    Manager: James Fearon (JAMO-LUFC-15)
    League Record: P36 W12 D10 L14 GD+8
Final League Position: 9th in Division 2
    Transfers In:
    20 Players, Avg Rating 87, Value £148.3m, Paid £111.2m
    Transfers Out:
    16 Players, Avg Rating 83, Value £48.3m, Received £45.9m
Top Scorer: Karim Benzema scored 13 goals in 30 games
Top Assists: Sebastian Rode also set up 6 goals in the same 25 games
Star Perfomance: Karim Benzema averaged 7.5 in his 30 games (although there were plenty of couple game star performers also)
Very much a tale of two seasons in one for Burnley, they went into the season in sparkling pre season form an, including that pre season, could boast 10 wins from the first 13 games , losing just once!
However in a very short space of time, the wheels fell of somewhat – 4 defeats and a draw in the next 5 games saw Jamo’s side fall back down to earth. Form had gone and it was needed back quickly.
The turn around was on as Burnley put paid to Palermo in cup, Krasnodar in the shield and sandwiched in maulings of Anderlecht and Krasnodar once again. A division 2 promotion push was back on and the knock out tournaments looked a possibility as well.
But it was another false dawn as only 3 wins in the next 19 games put paid to the season, Jamo’s boys dropped out of the shield, the cup and any promotion push quite spectacularly.
This is a team that can beat Gozzy’s eventual Division Two winner Calcio and batter second placed Krasnodar but then couldn’t maintain form over a consistent enough period – could this Burnley side suffer from a split personality.
Certainly, in Jamo, they have a very experienced manager who is used to a better end product so it would be a very brave forummer to bet against Burnley being right up there next season.

My advice for both of you is, it is marathon rather than a sprint.
For me it didn't make sense to blow all the money on this kind of players just yet.
And Dzeko + Berahino seems the good way to move forward, Matt.

A bit too much but considering he starts for Nice and is only rated 77, he can get a +4/5 in the very near future hopefully

TEAM OF THE WEEK: WEEK 6
    DIVISION 1

    Sergey Ryzhikov

Another appearance for the Rubin Kazan man on the team of the week section as he collected the division’s only cleansheet. Proving to be a wall at the back.
    Javi Fuego

The Rubin Kazan defense has made it a habit to get onto our sections a lot. Fuego is back again as Kazan kept another cleansheet and notched another win thanks largely to their defense.
    Dusan Basta

Completes the defenders from Rubin Kazan as Kazan managed to win even with half the shots. This was largely down to some great blocking from their defenders. This rounds up an excellent defensive display from Kazan with Basta, Ryzhikov and Fuego in our XI.
    Carlos Martinez

A game of goals but one defenders stood out and that was Carlos Martinez. Newcastle United did managed to score twice but it could have been more without Martinez specially considering how the keepers were performing on the night.
    Samuel Umtiti

Did a great job marking Benteke out of the game. He also scored a great goal from a corner to put his side 2-1 up as his side ran out eventual 3-2 winners over Villa.
    Roman Eremenko

In a game where Basel dominated a lot, Eremenko came up with the all important winner in the 50th minute which proved to be the only goal of the match as well. Was a rock in the center of the pitch and made sure Vucinic got the ball whenever Kazan tried to attack.
    Xabi Prieto

One of the best performers of the division. The captain of Sociedad played a significant part in two goals as he scored one and assisted another. Helped bail his team out with some fine interception play.
    Yoann Gourcuff

Opened the scoring on the night for his team against Aston Villa. Commanding performance from him as he stifled Pizarro and Rolfes to an extent and was also voted the man of the match.
    David Zurutuza ©

First appearance on the team of the week section and one with a bang. Zurutuza was not only the man of the match but also the man of the division as he captains our weekly XI this round. Scored a 8th minute screamer to put Sociedad 2 up. Linked up play with Agirretxe and Vela excellently.
    Fabio Quagliarella

Fabio scored the 88th minute winner as Lyon ran out 3-2 winners against Villa, who are in all sorts of problems. Not only did he score he also managed to grab an assist as Vlaar had no idea what was running around him.
    Imanol Agirretxe

Commanding performance from the striker in their 4-2 win over Newcastle. Outshone Vela as he was a horror for the Newcastle defenders and rang rings around them. Din’t give a chance to the full backs to move up the pitch either hence stifling them.
    HONORABLE MENTIONS
    Carlos Vela
Somehow manages to pop in almost everytime. Vela had a great game with 2 assists and a goal to cap off a fine night.
    Mirko Vucinic
Man of the match against Basel, was only missing a goal for his fine performance. He is proving to be a thorn for the defenders even when he is alone up top.
    Souza Robinho
Man of the match for Galatasaray against Cruzerio. Scored a fine opener which was later cancelled out but helped hold the ball well up the field.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: WEEK 4
    DIVISION 1

    Sergey Ryzhikov

Aston Villa had more shots and shot on target than Rubin Kazan. But Sergey Ryzhikov managed to put in a stellar performance to keep Benteke and Aduriz at bay. He also got himself a cleansheet.
    Javi Fuego

It is not an easy job to keep Benteke and Aduriz from scoring but Rubin Kazan managed to do that and their defense was upto the mark on the night. Fuego was a rock besides Navas in the heart of defense.
    Cesar Navas

Not a defenders evening in the division but Cesar Navas captained his Rubin Kazan side to a vital win over Villa. Kazan also managed to get the important cleansheet, again the only one on the evening.
    Bruno Rodrigo

A match winning performance from the Cruzerio defender. Not only did he manage to keep the much fancied Newcastle United at bay but also managed to put his side 3-1 up and the 3 points. Was subbed off in the 75th minute to conserve energy for the next match.
    Bakary Kone

A rock in defense and also scored a great goal. Kept Galatasaray at bay as the opponents were all over Lyon for a major part of the game.
    Rafael Van der Vaart

Star performer on the night against Newcastle as he created havoc the Newcastle back 4. He was instrumental as he scored a goal and also assisted another to give Cruzerio a great start to the season. He made sure the Newcastle wingbacks din’t get space and hence were not allowed much time on the ball.
    Sergio Canales

Strung the attack and defense together for Sociedad as they decided to rest out some star players. That allowed Canales to shine on the night. Cancelled out Basel’s opener with a finely taken goal. Was awarded the man of the match for his great performance. All in all his best performance of the season so far.
    Marko Devic

Marko was the man of the match on the night against Aston Villa. His composure on the ball was a thing of beauty. He was voted the man of the match on the night as he scored the game’s only goal in the 50th minute.
    Remy Cabella

Opened the scoring on the night at it looked like Newcastle would run away with the game. However it was not to be as Tim Krul had a mare. Cabella’s performance shouldn’t be undermined as he looked the likeliest to get Newcastle back into the game.
    Alexandre Lacazette ©

Captain of the team of week this round, Lacazette turned in an amazing performance to lead his Lyon side to victory over Galatasaray. He scored the eventual winner just when Galatasaray were looking likely to score another goal and runaway with the game. A fine performance from a man we should expect no less.
    Marco Streller

Both Sociedad and Basel decided to give few of their big players a game off and hence Streller led out his side for the evening. He put in a captains performance and scored Basel’s second goal. Good performance considering he was left alone up top and had to work a lot.
    HONORABLE MENTIONS
    Diego Irfan
Started in front of Zurutuza however his work ethic meant he was all over the Basel defense and created a lot more problems than his teammate. Scored the important equalizer to give Sociedad an away point.
    Mubarak Wakaso
Standout performer in the league so far. Wakaso provided the game’s only assist in the 50th minute to ensure Kazan of 3 points.
    Fabio Quagliarella
Great performance from the ex-Milan, Manchester city lad as he scored the opener and was probably the best player for his side. Would be a bit disappointed to end up on the losing side.
    SUPERSUB
    Pelendier Dagoberto
Good cameo by the Cruzerio man as he came on in the 75th minute to ensure Newcastle din’t get a sniff of taking away any points. Provided a good counterattacking option for Cruzerio.

TEAM OF THE WEEK : WEEK 2
    DIVISION 1

    Victor Enyeama (Cruzerio)

The Cruzerio shotstopper was vital in ensuring that the likes of Benteke and Aduriz don’t end up scoring more than 2 as Cruzerio held on for a very entertaining draw against 10 men Aston Villa. Enyeama was vital as the Curzerio defense looked a bit out of shape on the night.
    Martin Demichelis (Newcastle United)

Newcastle had a much tougher night than expected by the bookies at the betting corner as Basel took the lead, however Demichelis came up with a crucial headed equalizer and a fine performance at the back to make sure the score was 1-1. A fine performance by the world cup finalist all in all.
    Inigo Martinez (Real Sociedad) ©

Inigo Martinez is probably even more happy than the picture above as he captains the team of the week side with an amazing performance in Sociedads 2-1 win over Galatasaray. The 83rd minute strike from the Sociedad center back proved the be the eventual winner and his performance also earned him a man of the match award.
    Dusan Basta (Rubin Kazan)

Rubin Kazan was the team of the week and there were a lot of impressive performances in the side with one being Central defender Dusan Basta. His leadership at the back ensured that his side were the only ones to keep a cleansheet during the second round of fixtures in the division.
    Mikel Gonzalez (Real Sociedad)

Assisted the equalizer as he becomes the second defender from the Sociedad back four on our team of the week. Combined with his assist he also managed to keep the likes of Yilmaz and Sneijder at bay for long periods as they ran out 2-1 winners.
    Mubarak Wakaso (Rubin Kazan)

An excellent performance from the Ghanaian international against Lyon. He also scored the opening goal in the 13th minute to get Rubin Kazan on its way to an easy win. Helped Karadeniz control the midfield excellently.
    Xabi Prieto (Real Sociedad)

Another addition from Real Sociedad and it is the captain this time who led from the front with the crucial equalizer and then also setting up the winner for Inigo Martinez. His performances in his team were only over shadowed by the excellent Inigo Martinez.
    Rafael Van der Vaart (Cruzerio)

The midfielder from Cruzerio was on another level on the night with a goal and assist against much fancied keeper Claudio Bravo. The likes of Vlaar and Distin had no control over him, as VDV ran rings around them dictating play ensuring Cruzerio got a point at Villa Park.
    Gokdeniz Karadeniz (Rubin Kazan)

Rubin Kazan were definitely the most impressive side of the weekend as they ran out easy winner against a much fancied Lyon side. The game however was truly won In the midfield where Deniz Deniz controlled the game and thwarted any potential attacks from big players like Gonalons and Grenier to limit Lyon to the lowest shots in the division fixtures.
    Rodrigo Lima (FC Basel)

Was alone upfront for much of the match as Basel pulled off a great 1-1 draw against Newcastle United. Lima led the line well as he created enough trouble to limit the Newcastle full backs from attacking. A great performance capped off with a great goal.
    Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

Benteke is proving his fans right with a great performance again after his week 1 appeareance in the honorable mentions. He was everywhere in the match as he combined well with Aduriz and Agbonlahor to muster nearly 25 shots for 10 men Aston Villa who lost a huge attacking threat in Carlosn Sanchez when he was sent off in the 50th minute.
    HONORABLE MENTIONS
    Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray)
Opened the scored early on for Galatasaray against Real Sociedad, however ended up being on the losing side. However Sneijder was not to be blamed for the loss and delivered the level that has come to be expected of him over the years.
    Claudio Bravo (Aston Villa)
The Aston Villa vs Cruzerio game had two keepers in fine form as both kept our one shot after the other. Bravo did well considering Villa were bombarded after going down to 10 men early in the second half. A second great performance from the Chilean captain.
    Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad)
Carlos Vela had a decent performance as he strung attack after attack for his team. He was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself but with the level he is at it might just be the next match.
    Cesar Navas (Rubin Kazan)
Looked a bit suspect at the back against Gonalons however Navas came up with the goods as he assisted both the goals in Rubin Kazan’s win.
    SUPERSUB
    Pelendier Dagoberto
Came on as soon as Aston Villa were down to 10 men and slotted into the left winger position. Created a lot of problems for Vlaar and that consequently stopped Vlaar from feeding balls into Weimann. Solid performance from the Cruzerio substitute.

    TEAM OF THE TURN
    TURN 2

    GK: Moya (Celtic)
Keeping a clean sheet, despite 7 shots on target, Moya played a huge part in Celtic's biggest victory so far. With an important save halfway through the first half, he kept his team in the race when they were only leading by one goal. Resulting in a second goal shortly after, Celtic was never really challenged, but are proving themselves to be a well balanced team.
    DR: Van Dijk (Celtic)
After an anonymous first game, Virgil van Dijk now finds himself in the team of the turn after a great effort against Sampdoria. The defender played a solid game, keeping the lock on the Celtic door. The Celtic back line is heavily representing in the team of the turn, proving their great partnership alongside results.
    DC: Mulgrew (Celtic)
Another Celtic defender, Mulgrew not only played a solid defensive match, but also found the opportunity to score their third goal after 74 minutes of football. Playing exactly as their manager told them to do, the Celtic defenders paced down the wings as much as they could, with Mulgrew's goal as best effort.
    DC: Viergever (Ajax)
After last weeks victory, Ajax was eager to make another three points. However, their lack of goal scoring players was just as obvious as last week. Viergever, who played an average defensive game, eventually was needed to net a 71 minute equalizer and to save his side a point.
    DL: Izaguirre (Celtic)
The final defender to complete this weeks defensive line up is yet another Celtic man. Even more than Van Dijk and Mulgrew, Izaguirre was involved in a lot of forward action, pacing down the wing and putting as much balls in the box as he could. Unfortunately for him, non of his effort were cashed in by the strikers, yet his performance was not unnoticed and earned him his spot in the team of the turn.
    DM: Kayal (Celtic)
Despite being positioned as the defensive midfielder, Celtic's dominance over Sampdoria left Kayal with more of a play making role, which he took on gladly. Constantly looking to intercept or to receive the ball from the back line, his forward passing put Celtic strikers and wingers in and around the box time after time. Just before half time, Kayal made his run through the midfield, leaving opponent goalie Romero without chance as he scored the second goal.
    MR: Osman (Metalist)
Playing in between defense and midfield, Metalist captain Osman didn't have his eye set on getting anywhere near the opponent goal today. However, when a penalty was giving only one minute after opponent Hoffenheim opened the score, the skipper knew it was up to him. Experienced as he is, Osman simply sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and netted the ball in the corner.
    ML: Ganso (São Paulo FC)
Coming from the center midfield, São Paulo's Ganso was looking for ways to sneak into the opponents box or cut their defense in half with one of his passes. It took him until well after half time to finally grab his moment, after receiving the ball on the edge of the box he effortlessly put it in the top of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Unfortunately for Ganso his teammates got lost in the euphoria, a massive mistake from goalkeeper De Sanctis led to an equalizer only 3 minutes later, leaving São Paulo FC with just one point.
    AM: Ronaldinho (Olympiacos)
What seemed to be going to be a invisible first half, quickly changed into the Ronaldinho show when he tried his luck with a cheeky flick at goal, putting his team in a 1-0 lead just before half time. He came close to scoring the winner in the second half, but the opponent goalkeeper saved his effort. Nonetheless, he took home the man of the match award, and also finds himself in the team of the turn, altogether not such a bad turn for Ronaldinho.
    FC: Volland (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim)
The only player to find himself in the team of the turn two weeks in a row, Hoffenheim's Volland simply picked up where he left last week: by scoring goals. Only 21 minutes into the game, already into his third effort of the game, he created space for a shot and beat the goalkeeper. Despite more chances in the second half, his efforts weren't enough to secure his team three points, being stuck on 1-1 like most other teams this week.
    FC: Almeida (Celtic)
It may not come as a surprise that this weeks player of the turn comes from the Celtic side, being the only team that won their game and scored some goals. Almeida was voted man of the match after scoring the opening goal, after just 9 minutes, and assisting the third goal, after a great interception in midfield. His overall play brings him this weeks title, in only his first game for Celtic.

    Fabiano (São Paulo FC)
Lacked goal scoring efforts this turn, but gave the assist to the opening goal.
    Matthews (Celtic)
Could've showed more attacking efforts, after giving the assist for the opening goal after just 9 minutes.
    Schwegler (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim)
Tried to be involved in the attacking play, leading to the assist of his side's only goal.

TEAM OF THE WEEK : WEEK 1
    DIVISION 1

    Claudio Bravo

The Aston Villa stopper who signed from Barcelona for a staggering 10 million pounds justified his fee with an excellent game in between the sticks against FC Basel. As the FC Basel manager was quoted after the game "He was the difference between the two teams".
    Phil Jagielka ©

The player of the week (Captain) goes to Phil Jagielka. In a very even game against Rubin Kazan the Galatasaray defender was not only instrumental in keeping Rubin Kazan at bay but also came up with the all important winner in the 84th minute to hand his side crucial 3 points.
    Ron Vlaar

Aston Villa against FC Basel wasn't a match with a lot of attacking threats however Aston Villa managed to pull off a 2-0 win thanks to their goalkeeper and their defence even with lesser shots. Ron Vlaar was main man in the heart of the defense and is in our team of the week alongside Phil Jagielka.
    David Santon

Newcastle started their campaign as favorites and duly obliged against a great Olympique Lyonnais team. Newcastle played a peculiar formation using two wingbacks high up the pitch. The strategy worked wonders particularly due to the excellent David Santon who thrived in his new role as a right wing back.
    Philippe Senderos

Philippe Senderos is our third inclusion from the defense of Aston Villa. He was part of the Aston Villa defense which was the only team to keep a clean sheet in the first round of fixtures.
    Chori Castro

The dynamic midfielder who started on the right side of the midfield in the exciting 2-2 draw for Real Sociedad against Cruzerio. Castro ran rings around the Cruzerio defense and provided assists to both the goals for Sociedad.
    Felipe Melo

Galatasray had a great game against Rubin Kazan and Melo was the heart of the their team. Not only did Felipe Melo stop crucial attacks against an equally impressive Rubin Kazan but he opened the scoring for his team which eventually led them to a 2-1 win over their rivals. This midfielder from Galatasaray will definitely be in contention for team of the season at the end of the season if he continues this form.
    Cheick Tiote

It was a round where the midfielders thrived over attackers or defenders. Tiote was instrumental in the win over Lyon as he scored the winner for Newcastle United.
    Maxime Gonalons

The only player to feature in the starting XI from a losing side and rightly so. Given license to roam free in the midfield by his manager, Gonalons thrived and managed to open the scoring on the night as well. He was so impressive that he was later voted Man of the match even when he was on the losing side. All in all Gonalons deserved to be on the winning side.
    Emanuel Adebayor

The third inclusion from Newcastle United, Adebayor might not have gotten onto the score sheet but he provided the final pass for the both the goals which propelled Newcastle United to their 2-1 win over Lyon. The Lyon defenders had no answer for the Togo international.
    Carlos Vela

Man of the match in possibly the most exciting match of the weekend, Vela enhanced his already huge reputation by scoring two goals for Sociedad. The second goal came in the 89th minute to save his team from the jaws of defeat much to the dismay of Cruzerio and their home support.
    HONORABLE MENTIONS
    Rafael Van Der Vaart
The midfielder from Cruzerio was mightily impressive as he scored a goal and looked unplayable at times. However for his there were some poor performances in his side which eventually let Sociedad nick in a late equalizer.
    Goran Pandev
Scored the equalizer for Newcastle United to cap off a wonderful debut. Only overshadowed by the likes of Vela and teammate Adebayor.

Sao Paulo and Sampdoria. Though Shane himself is supposed to be managing the former?

He injured his leg in preseason and is out for 2-3 months, hence won't play a part for a bit. Return date is probably around October. Still being linked with Valencia so might make a movie but not sure it would be wise if we don't bring in another striker instead.
