  1. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 Spot on mate.
  2. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 Quite dissapointed with only a +1 for Wilshere. I can seem to remember Gotze getting a couple of +2's when he had been injured for a while. Im sure people will disagree but i thought a +2 would be warranted given his ability and performances.
  3. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 What rating can we expect Shaw to rise to? Surely an 82+ rating isnt too much to ask with the games he has played and the quality he has shown?
  4. Re: Riferimento: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 He certainly deserves it. Whether he gets it is another matter however. He'll surely 100% go to 90 though.
  5. Re: Official Arsenal Thread I completely agree. That's why i feel player's like Ashley Cole and Baines in particular are two of the best full backs around. They offer their teams good attacking threat without compromising or neglecting their defensive duties. On the other hand you have players like Jordi Alba who are unbelievable going forward, but can't defend for toffee, for want of a better phrase.
  6. Re: Official Arsenal Thread I completely agree. In my previous post I wasn't saying that Gibbs was an amazing full back or that not defending properly doesn't matter. I was more saying that the problem we have at full back is not too dissimilar to the problem most other top teams have at full back where the player can attack but can't defend. I'd love us to have two full backs who can defend first but also attack with flair, but this is a rarity these days as coaching seems to have changed when it comes to the full back position. It's just a trend in modern football which has occurred over the past 5/6 years where a fullback's 'responsibilities' shall we say, has changed. I don't like it but it is the way it is unfortunately.
  7. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Why are you telling me what fullbacks should do? I know that fullback's should defend first, but it doesn't mean that is what happens in real life. I'm just telling it how it is...
  8. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Strongly disagree here. Football has changed immensly in the past few years and attacking full backs are now seen as a necessity. As far as coaches/managers of top teams are concerned a full backs attacking attributes are far more important than their defensive ones. This is why many top clubs in Europe field very young full backs nowadays as the position is more about attacking threat rather than experience and defensive discipline. I think the best full backs are the ones who can attack and defend with equal effectiveness, like Baines and Cole (IMO) but that doesn't mean that a full back has to be good defensively to play regularly at a big team nowadays. I agree with you that in an ideal world a fullback should be able to defend before he attacks, but this is simply not the case in European football these days. A fullbacks primary job now is to join in with the attack, provide overlapping runs etc. Defending is an afterthought now unfortunately.
  9. Re: Official Arsenal Thread I think it is very unlikely we'll get Villa now. Barca have already ruled out a sale in January and I'm not convinced we'd break the bank to buy a 30 year old anyway, no matter how good he is. I'd still like to see us sign at least one player but, like JCAFC just said, I also like seeing the youth come through and for them to be given their chance. The more players you buy, the less chance promising youth has to break through. Yennaris, Eislfeld and Gnabry are three players in particular I'm very excited about and I'd like to see them get a fair chance in the Arsenal team at some point. Wenger has said previously that Eisfeld would get a chance in the Premier League before the end of the season but we'll have to wait and see on that one.
  10. Re: Official Arsenal Thread I completely agree. I have never really rated Zaha or wanted him at Arsenal and I'm sure there are probably posts of mine on this forum to back that up. I'm very cautious when i use the phrase 'over-hyped' because it depends how much attention you pay to certain figures in the media and what they say about the player etc. For instance some people say Wilshere is over-hyped whereas I myself think his talent matches the hype. So I feel it's very hard to judge whether or not a player is over-hyped or not as everyone sees football player's portrayed in different ways by certain medias like twitter or articles on the internet. However, i do feel that United do seem to be paying a lot of money for a player who isn't exactly 'dominating' the championship in my view. But of course, if he turns out to be a superstar then the high transfer fee will obviously be justified. But yes my gut feeling (rightly or wrongly) is that Zaha does seem to be rated a tad better than he actually is.
  11. Re: Official Arsenal Thread I am sure he will turn out into a 'good' player but I'm not quite sure whether he'll be a world class player. Of course, time will tell as is always the case with youngsters. It's too early to judge him at the minute. One thing i would say is that I myself said I didn't really want him a few weeks ago, so I'm not too bothered by the outcome to be honest.
  12. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Yeah i should think they would show it really. I am looking forward to it though, I absolutely love these big Champions League games. I think we'll need a lot of luck to go through but anything can happen in football, as Chelsea proved last season in this very competition!
  13. Re: Official Arsenal Thread It's okay I've got SkySports so I'm covered but i thought normally one leg was on ITV and the other on Sky?
  14. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 I completely agree. I think it would be a shame though that with all these generous rises being handed out, a player who seems to really deserve a +2 to 94 probably wont get it. Oh well, I'm sure he'll be 94 in the next review.
  15. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Well, i see it's just another standard day on the Arsenal thread. I'd like to say that whilst i feel this thread is in decline, it's only because of a certain few individuals who seem to get a kick out of causing arguments on here for no apparent reason. They shall remain nameless but I think we all know who we are talking about. Debate is fine, I love debate. I could talk about football all day, especially when it's about Arsenal. But when people come on here (usually non-Arsenal fans) with an agenda to just stir s*** and try to get a reaction out of people than that is not a debate in my view. If people want to debate then great, but at least structure it like a proper argument, rather than a cynical comment or dig at Arsenal and/or our fans/manager. There's no need for it and it's sole purpose is just to provoke a reaction, which it always gets. I can't speak for others but I myself never go into other club's threads and post with the intention to cause trouble, therefore I expect to recieve the same treatment in return. Unfortunately this is not the case, and probably never will be. However, I would like it if we could have proper debates again rather than just having arguments because one or two people make an outrageous comment which they know will anger many of the people on here and cause the debate to turn into a 'slagging off' competition. Like i said before, these people know who they are and they will not stop so long as they know they can get a reaction and cause this thread to turn nasty. It's sad but some people do come in here with the intention to cause arguments, and there is nothing we can really do about it.

  17. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Same and I don't think it will happen anyway. Surely if we REALLY, REALLY wanted him we would have got him in the summer or signed him in January already. I think he will go to Rubin or QPR myself.
  18. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Don't believe that at all. I swear Rubin Kazan are the favourites now anyway and not QPR?
