  1. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Hier Hier! Finally we can end this whole top four vs trophy debate now.
  2. Re: Official Arsenal Thread It shouldn't be in theory. But this Arsenal squad, as well as squads of the past few years just don't seem to be able to do it. In seasons gone by we normally do pretty well in all competitions and than completely collapse in February/March and go out of everything. The 10/11 season was the defining example in my opinion. That was a team capable of winning the title with a bit more luck with injuries. We were in all four competitions, including a final against Birmingham and beating Barca in our CL first leg, as well as being only about 4 points off United..........and then it all fell apart. I'd like to think we could seriously challenge for trophies and easily secure top four every season but I'm afraid that it's simply not the case. Personnel and financial factors seem to be restricting us at the minute and with teams like City and Chelsea with infinite wealth and squad depth it gets harder every year to sustain top four and challenge for trophies. I posted something a few pages back which explains in a bit more detail my thoughts about top four and trophies which should help you get the full picture behind my thinking on this subject.
  3. Re: Liga BBVA Ratings 2012/2013 Given the fact that Reus rose from 90-92 in the Bundesliga review, can we now expect Alba to 100% rise to 92?
  4. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Thought I'd share my opinion on the whole top four vs trophy debate. In my opinion i would sooner Arsenal finish fourth this season, rather than finish 5th and win the FA Cup. I say this because my fear is (rightly or wrongly) that if we dropped out of the top four it would have serious financial repercussions which would further restrict us as a club in terms of our spending power as well as keeping our best players. I also believe that it would be incredibly hard for us to get back into the top four if we dropped out and in my opinion Liverpool have proved this. Okay you could argue Liverpool is a different case due to their owners etc but that would be my genuine fear for Arsenal that we would struggle to break into the top four should we drop out of it. Again, this could lead to further players leaving the club and would mean we would be able to attract even less quality players to our club. I also understand people's argument of 'People remember winning trophies, not top four finishes'. In fact, i even agree with it. Of course I'm not happy with Arsenal 'just' finishing in the top four every year and I'm incredibly frustrated we haven't won anything. But i do believe we need to secure top four before we think about winning trophies. I wouldn't want us to win the FA Cup if it was marred by us going out of the top four, because then all that would follow would be a season of hardship and the same frustration and disappointment, even with a trophy being won. I just feel as a club as big as Arsenal we need to be thinking about securing top four AND winning a trophy. One or the other isn't good enough for a club of our standards. Of course I'd take the Champions League and no top four in a heartbeat (for obvious reasons), but this is an extreme example.
  5. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 Well they've given Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 quite generous ratings IMO so there's no reason why the Premier League shouldn't give out even more generous ratings, seeing as SM rate it the top league. So yeah, why not Sterling +11?
  6. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 Either way mate he'll definitely go to 90, but he deserves 91 IMO. We'll just have to wait and see what SM do.
  7. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 Your definitely not mad mate. I can see where your coming from completely. It all depends on whether SM give out what I've been calling 'double rises' where they rise a player for what he should have got at the end of last season (when there was no review) and what they should also get at the start of this season. Rather than just completely disregarding last season. Ba IMO should have/would have got 90 at the end of last season and also deserves a 91 based on the first half to this season. Will SM give it though, this is a question which no one can answer I'm afraid.
  8. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 Obviously not a serious post. That aside, Richards has no chance of a rise in this review.
  9. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions 2012/13 Alright lads, just wondering what sort of rise you guys think Luke Shaw will get in the upcoming review? Will it be a 'standard' rise to 80 or can he get higher, say 83 for instance? He seems to be playing 90mins every week now for Southampton and will more than likely continue to start games right up until the review.
  10. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Can't say I like them to be honest. Thank God they're not real.
  11. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Who honestly cares about Wilshere being in a West Ham shirt when he was a toddler? Us Arsenal fans have a lot of reasons to be upset about now days, THAT however is not one of them. Deary me.
  12. Re: Bundesliga Ratings 2012/2013 Still no rating changes. This is becoming a bit of a joke now. Especially considering they still have to do Liga BBVA and the Premier League afterwards. Wont be February till it's all finished now, which would make it almost a year since the last rating changes for the top leagues. Sorry for repeating myself, but that is an absolute joke.
  13. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Different players for me. Walcott is showing he has the potential to be an out and out goalscorer, whilst Bale is adding goals to his game he'll never be a centre forward. I also think Bale is more technically gifted as a footballer but that shouldn't take away from Walcott's ability to find a lot of goals and assists. I think they'll both go on to become great players.
  14. Re: Official Arsenal Thread I'd guess you'd probably have to ship off Balotelli or Dzeko if you even wanted to think about bringing Walcott in. I have wondered at times whether we should play two up top at home but it really wouldn't work in my opinion. The midfield and defence would suffer immensely if we played 442 or diamond system and it would mean that wed have more players out of position or who wouldn't fit certain roles within a system.
  15. Re: Bundesliga Ratings 2012/2013 Hi lads, just a quick question. When do the think the Bundesliga rating review will commence. I thought they would have started by now?
  16. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Exactly, one of them games where the three points was the most important thing. That was a typical United/City performance in a tough away game, play bad and win.
  17. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Our wingers will have to work very hard to track back, especially at the Allianz in the second leg. However, it goes without saying really that in a round of 16 CL game all our 11 must absolutely work their socks off defensively. If our wingers do not track back and our midfield does not press together then we will find it very hard, the same goes for Bayern though.
  18. Re: Official Arsenal Thread @ Didi, excellent post. Thank you for offering a little perspective. But my issue isn't with comparing player's per se, more with the way people (Ruggermad, MUTD) mock me for putting my opinions forward in a fair manner and then being confronted with posts telling me 'factually' that i am wrong. I'm sure an intelligent person like yourself can see the irony in that.
  19. Re: Official Arsenal Thread Should have quoted that then. Setting myself up, what by constantly putting 'disclaimers' (if you will) in my post's such as 'in my opinion' or 'just my opinion'? Yeah, because that's much worse than saying 'Kroos is better than Wilshere, FACT'. If I'm setting myself up then maybe its because you are a teenager/child who cant read my posts properly and go through the process of trying to mock me and prove me wrong when ironically, all I've done is state my opinion and not stated it as fact, unless intentionally doing so for effect and to prove a point to others about how ironic their post's are. Yourself and other's then go at length to prove me wrong when all i've done is stated and opinion. Then the irony comes where yourself and others put your views forward as fact and then mock me for contesting them or asking for an explanation.
