Re: Gold Championship 22 Match Report / Transfers Thread
    Englishman Arrives At The Jalisco
Joe Charley has been unveiled as the new boss of Mexican side Chivas De Guadalajara.
Upon his arrival at the club's training facility, he had this to say to the media: "I am very pleased to have taken over the reigns at the biggest club in Mexico, I am aiming to top the Mexican 1st Division, and do well in the three cup competitions we are competing in. I can tell the Guadalajara faithful that the rule of signing only Mexican players is being thrown into the Atlantic, after I came to an agreement with the President, Jorge Vergera. This shall make it a lot easier to sign quality players on the transfer market, making the squad more competitive in all departments. I hope to bring an attacking game to the club, as I believe we should win, but also entertain. The quality of the youngsters at the club is second to none, with players such as Sergio Avila and Omar Esparza, amongst others, ready to step into the starting eleven, and prove themselves to be 'special' players".
Club legend, Alberto "El Venado" Medina spoke about the new manager earlier today: "It will be a major step in my career, as well as the rest of the teams' career to be managed by an Englishman, it is highly unusual to see European coaches in Mexico, let alone English coaches so I will learn new things from Mr Charley, and hopefully improve my game. He has a laid back approach, with two specific goals: To make the team play attacking football and build a team spirit that can cope with anything on the pitch. This season should be a turning point in the clubs' history.
Joe Charley has made two permanent signings to bolster the squad before this seasons' curtain raiser against Tom Sinar's VFL Bochum in a friendly. First to arrive was 26 year old Ecuadorian, Segundo Castillo from Croatia's Crvena Zvezda for £8.3 million pounds. The centre of midfield needed an enforcer and Castillo fitted the job perfectly with his strength and stamina, leading Joe Charley to snap him up before others could even take note of his potential. He can play in either the centre of midfield, or as a holding midfielder. He likes to push forward and help with attacks when necessary. Castillo has been capped by Ecuador thirty three times, scoring twice, meaning he has lots of experience which will help Guadalajara in the long run. The other player to arrive was 23 year old Colombian, Humberto Mendoza from Atletico Nacional of his native country. After negotiations between Nacional Chairman Victor Marulanda and Joe Charley, the two parties agreed to a transfer fee of £8.3 millions pounds, with Juan Manuel Garza and Paulo Cesar Chavez heading in the opposite direction, to Colombia. Just like Castillo, Mendoza has international experience, this comes in the shape of 10 caps, with 1 goal scored. He plays in the centre of defence and is 1.92m tall, making him almost unbeatable in aerial battles. Two excellent signings for "Rebano Sagardo", which will help their push for success in the upcoming season. Who has come to the Jalisco on loan? We shall now find out.
As well as two permanent signings, Joe Charley has signed two players from Italian club Fiorentina, managed by good friend Sheva. First to sign a season long loan deal was 22 year old Manuel Da Costa. He is a centre back, and will provide essential depth to the squad. He has 22 caps for the Portugal U21 team, and has been on the brink of getting his first senior Portugal cap in the past. 18 year old Montenegran, Stevan Jovetic followed his fellow Fiorentina player to Mexico, after agreeing to a one year loan deal to gain valuable first team experience. Jovetic is the captain of the Montenegro U21 team already, showing his maturity and talent. He has been capped by the Senior Montenegro team twice, and 6 times by the U21s, scoring 2 goals for the latter. He is a striker and is expected to partner Sergio Santana in attack.
On the other end of the transfer market, 3 players have left the Jalisco. Juan Manuel Garza and Paulo Cesar Chavez were sold to Atletico Nacional as part of the Humberto Mendoza deal, and 22 year old striker Jesus Morales has been released. Joe Charley has said he "wishes them well" at their new clubs respectively.
Joe Charley's first competitive game in charge comes against Tom Sinar's VFL Bochum in a friendly on Friday. The game should be a stern test ahead of the new season. Bochum have signed two very good players in the shape of Santiago Canizares (permanent) and Chilean prospect Luis Jimenez (on loan), so they are clearly a club with a determined manager who wants to drive the team to success. With Stanislav Sestak, they also have a striker who will score goals. Tom Sinar is expected to play a 4-5-1 as he has done with many of his other clubs in the past, to great achievement. Expect an all out attacking match with plenty of goals.
Here is the Guadalajara schedule for late August/September:
29th August 2008 - VFL Bochum - Friendly - H - "This match is just to see how the team gels together, and whether the new system suits the teams' style on the pitch. I would like a win, but I would be happy with a draw.
30th August 2008 - Puebla - League - A - "A win is the only thing that would satisfy me as they are a much weaker team, with a poor defence and midfield that we must take advantage of. Their striker Marama Vahirua could cause some problems, but hopefully our defence can keep him quiet".
3rd September 2008 - America - League - H - "This is a crucial game, despite it being so early on in the season, because I think they will be our title challengers throughout. I would want a win, but they have a talented squad with the likes of Ochoa, Castro, Insua, Cabanas and Moreno so a draw would be satisfactory".
5th September 2008 - America - Friendly - H - "This match will be used to experiment with some new tactics if necessary and possibly give some of the youngsters a full ninety minutes. Revenge could also be an issue from the result of the league match two days before".
6th September 2008 - Tecos De La UAG - League - H - "Just like the Puebla fixture, a win is our only option. They have a very good goalkeeper in Jose Corona but their outfield isn't glistening with talent".
10th September 2008 - UNAM - League - A - "A tough match here, against a decent UNAM side who have signed some good players in pre season. Juan Carlos Cacho will of course provide them with a dangerous goal threat, especially if he is in form. Other than that new signings Atiba Hutchinson and Jeppe Kurth will provide the midfield with something extra, and Stijn Stijnen is a very good goalkeeper, who will be difficult to beat".
13th September 2008 - Cruz Azul - League - H - "These could also be title contenders alongside America. With in my opinion the strongest midfield in the league they will be difficult to break down. Two talented youngsters stand out in this squad for me, centre back Julio Cesar Dominguez and tricky right winger Cesar Villaluz, they are two very good prospects that Cruz Azul have at their disposal. The three more experienced midfield enforcers, Gerardo Torrado, Carlos Bonet and Christian Riveros are exceptional players who provide strength, goals and most importantly experience to an already dangerous team. A win would be arguably the performance of the season, and would give the squad a big morale boost if needed".
17th September 2008 - Atlas - League - A - "A possible slip up against a tricky team here. Diego Colotto, Eduardo Rergis and Luis Robles provide the defence and midfield with three technically adept players, but lack a goalscorer which could prove decisive. You need wins against teams like this to win the title".
20th September 2008 - Monterrey - League - H - "A weak defence could prove to be decisive in this match, despite Monterrey possessing two strikers with goalscoring reputations, these being Humberto Suazo and Jared Borgetti, and a midfield maestro in the form of Luis Ernesto Perez. Our offense should finish this team off, but expect goals from Suazo and Borgetti".
24th September 2008 - Atlante - League - A - "Could have a suprise team here in the form of Atlante, with a supurb strikeforce of Giancarlo Maldonado and Luis Gabriel Rey, goals should be easy to come by. Javier Munoz Mustafa provides the defence with a solid base, and Christian Bermudez is an exciting young player with bags of potential who will cause problems on the left wing. A tough match where a win is needed but a draw is more than possible should Bermudez and Maldonado reach their limit".
27th September 2008 - UNAL Tigres - League - H - "A Win at all costs against a team with a poor defence and a midfield where a real leader is missing. The tables turn when you look at the attack though, should they implement a system which incorporates 3 forwards, Francisco Fonseca, Blas Perez and Gaston Nicolas Fernandez will provide fireworks. Oscar Perez is an experienced goalie as well, this will help his defence's confidence. Despite these positives, they are a weaker side who must be beaten".
Formations with only three players at the back, are the only ones that will be considered this season, to make room for the squad's talented midfield players. The first choice formation is without a shadow of a doubt the 3-4-1-2 which includes the following players: Michel, Esparza, Reynoso, Magallon, Medina, Castillo, Pineda, Morales, Avila, Santana, Jovetic. Using this system will depend upon the scoring of goals, as playing three at the back means the defence has a lot more to do, and without a holding midfielder there is no second shield for the opposition to break down. However, with seven attacking players goals should be easy to come by. 22 year old Sergio Avila will be the playmaker, a crucial position in this formation, he needs to provide the service to the two strikers, Sergio Santana and Stevan Jovetic. The two wingers will also be tricky customers, Medina for his speed and skill, Morales for his excellent crossing and set pieces. Sergio Santana will be relied heavily upon heavily to score the goals, but I expect a few from loanee Stevan Jovetic as well.
The formation that will be used in cup games, with the reserve players involved, will be the 3-2-2-2-1 with the following players in the starting eleven: Michel, Da Costa, Mendoza, Patlan, Araujo, Mejia, Baez, Solis, Fabian, Padilla, Arellano. Once again, three at the back this time with two holding midfielders for protection though. These two defensive midfielders come in the shape of Patricio Araujo and Edgar Mejia, two very talented 20 year olds who are expected to break down attacks before the three man defence can be reached. Xavier Baez and Edgar Solis will provide electric pace down the wings, provding service for Omar Arellano who must be in scoring form as the loan striker. 19 year old Marco Fabian and 21 year old Jesus Padilla provide Arellano with support as second strikers. This starting eleven with many young players could cause some surprising upsets this season in my opinion.
Now for the forumer managed teams who will be looking for success themselves in the upcoming season.

At the end of the day, a match report is a match report. They are usually presented and typed in your own unique way. Some may not be as good as others, but if everyone was good at it, the world would be a boring place.

Re: Gold Championship 22 Match Report / Transfers Thread

Seria A Preview - From the eyes of Deveney
Last Saturday saw superbly joyous scenes all around the Friuli stadium as Udine's number one club Udinese announced a new manager and ultimately a new era at the club with the appointment of British manager Luke Deveney. This managerial change has come as somewhat of a surprise in this part of Europe as the British form of manager is not all that common place in a league such as the Seria A, but this hasn't put off the local fans who were delighted by the news of an experienced manager taking charge with the potential to move the club into bigger and better things in one of the strongest competitions in the world. The likes of giants such as Milan and Inter as well as quality outfits such as Fiorentina promise to be outstanding opposition, in one of Deveney's toughest tasks so far.
As early as the first 24 hours of Luke's reign saw the transfer market delved into on three seperate occasions, all of which key positions bolstering an already well-blended squad. The first player to make his way to Italy and in Udinese's direction was the South American aqcuisiton of the trio, with Chile's Colo Colo being raided for the talented right midfielder Gonzalo Fierro. With the Udinese squad lacking an out-and-out attacking right midfield player when the new boss arrived, this purchase was seen as vital and Deveney was happy to allow Emanuele Belardi and Guilherme Siqueira leave in the opposition direction along with over 10m cash. "I felt that a high value deal was necessary for Gonzalo to beat off other interested parties, and i am delighted with his arrival" the Udinese gaffer said. Of the two other signings, the smaller travel to Italy from other parts of Europe were taken to bring in further international experience to the squad. Romanian international central defender Gabriel Tamas joined from Dinamo Bucuresti with Marco Motta and Ricardo Colombo moving away as part of the transfer which included 4m, and Pole hitman Pawel Brozek left his beloved Wisla Krakow to take the step up in club football quality, allowing Floro Flores and Damiano Ferronetti to make their way to Poland. "I am obviously delighted with the quality ive been able to bring in, Gabriel (Tamas) is a proven defender with a extremely able nation such as Romania and is only 24 years of age, he will be pushing hard for first team football this year and should give great competition to the likes of Felipe and Zapata here at Udinese. Pawel (Brozek) is another good signing for us, he has the potential to score plenty of goals and although he will be behind the likes of Di Natale in the pecking order, he and young Pepe will be used regularly in what is sure to be a long and hard season with 4 competitions on the go."
In terms of speculation surrounding possible individuals leaving the club on a permenant basis, key performers such as Gokhan Inler and young starlet Fernando Tissone have been subject to a wide range of bids across Europe and beyond, but Deveney is resolute in his manner of keeping such players. "Anyone who knows anything about Football will be well aware that Inler and Tissone are two of the best young midfield players in this country, and that their potential to improve is superb. Many enquiries have been made into these lads availability but i can assure you that they will not be leaving the club, they are massively involved in my plans to take this club forward and their is no reason to make their personal situations otherwise." In other areas of the team, the clubs "big" stars such as Zapata, Quagliarella and most notably Di Natale have also been linked with certain moves from the club, but these three are the nucleus of a relatively young side's chances of silverware this year, and Deveney has no reason to currently move any of these talented individuals to pastures new. In terms of loanees leaving the club for experience this season, Deveney has stated that any of his youth squad members are free to move to a smaller club to gain important experience, with the likes of Isla and Candreva sure to improve a lower league outfit in need of improvement.
Friendly Rivalries, or maybe just Vicious?
Through certain managerial positions throughout the seasons Udinese manager Luke Deveney has made certain good friends in the game of Football and it now seems that some of his greatest allies have found themselves in the beautiful sunshine and sensational footballing nation of Italy at the same time as Udinese's new hero. The Rivalry between some of the country's biggest outfits is sure to be fierce, and i can now go into specific detail about what could be coming to Italian fanatics this season.
Kuldeep Samra, Inter Milan - One of Europes best up and coming bosses, Kuldeep Samra has managed to land possibly the nation's biggest job at the moment, with a superb squad at his disposal at the blue half of Milan. He has been strong in the transfer market already by managing to sign my favourite player and possibly the worlds greatest player Lionel Messi, and also Karim Benzema and Sidney Govou amongst others. A world class squad all round, and sure to be extremely tough to beat both home and away.
Matt Burnett, Napoli - Burnett is a confident manager to the point of arrogance at times, but he can back it up as he has all the ability to move Napoli forward this season under his guidance. with a young, talented team containing the likes of Fabiano Santacroce and Marek Hamsik along with lethal Argentinian scoring duo Ezequiel Lavezzi and German Denis and newest goalkeeping buy Hugo Lloris, the potential is outrageously high and they are sure to shock the critics this season. In terms of the Udinese games, both ties should be close run things but i am confident my side can produce the goods if they play as well as i know they can do.
Ryan Peters, Palermo - A very young manager in charge here at the Renzo Barbera stadium in Palermo, but also one with experience beyond his tender years. Taking charge of a experienced squad with a strong core, Ryan could certainly prove to be a strong contender for Europe with his side. With Fabio Liverani, Antonio Nocerino and Fabio Simplicio forming a solid central midfield base for Peters, the likes of key attackers Fabrizio Miccoli and De Melo Tulio should be allowed to shine. Marco Amelia is a goalkeeper of high talent, although the defence isn't as strong as it once was with the past losses of Italy internationals Andrei Barzagli and Christian Zaccardo. Although certainly winnable ties for my Udinese, Peters will have no sympathy for our friendship and i expect two tough ties from the men in pink.
As well as these closer friends in Seria A, other notable managers are the likes of Sheva (Fiorentina), Tony Beddows (Juventus) and Brad Sutcliffe (Catania). This amount of managerial ability combined in one division is sure to mean no easy ties over the year and certainly some outstanding ties waiting in the wings. In Italian domestic cup news, Udinese have recieved a bye in the Italian Cup while the Shield first round will see Deveney's men host second tier outfit Albinoleffe. Udinese will also compete in the SMFA Shield to make it four full competitions for the season, with the Mexican side San Luis being hosted in Udine on the 3rd October. All in all, the season has potential to be superb with so much silverware on offer for Deveney's men, but the opposition will be equally determined to take the glory and the whole squad will need to be at their best if Udinese get off to the greatest start under their new boss. A home tie against Cagliari will open their league campaign on Saturday, with 3 points needed to show the Udinese fans whats to come under a manager such as Deveney.

America - "Aguilas" - Title Contenders - George ECFC
Players To Watch - Guillermo Ochoa, Jose Antonio Castro, Salvador Cabanas and Alfredo Moreno.
New Signings - Miguel Portillo, Rasmus Wurtz, Niklas Barkroth and Eren Derdiyok.
    Young Star - Enrique Esqueda.
Season Will Go Well If - Cabanas and Moreno are firing on all cylinders, Ochoa lives up to the hype and the centre of defence is not as weak as it looks.
Atlas - "Zorros" - Mid Table - Sam Warren
Players To Watch - Diego Colotto and Luis Robles.
    New Signing - Adrian Gonzalez.
Young Stars - Luis Robles, Nestor Vicente Vidrio, Edgar Pacheco and Jorge Hernandez.
Season Will Go Well If - They score goals through Achucarro and Mendivil, Robles and Colotto organise the midfield and defence and they punch above their weight in the games against the title contenders.
Cruz Azul - "La Maquina Celeste" - Title Contenders - Colin Barker
Players To Watch - Julio Cesar Dominguez, Cesar Villaluz, Gerardo Torrado, Carlos Bonet and Christian Riveros.
New Signings - Marc Stein, Saber Ben Frej, Leal Mario Sergio, Stanislav Smrek, Santos Willians Santana, Usak Orkun and Jonathan De Leon.
Young Stars - Julio Cesar Dominguez, Cesar Villaluz, Edgar Andrade, Santos Willians Santana and Martin Galvan.
Season Will Go Well If - Torrado, Bonet, Villaluz, Lozano and Riveros combine to make the best midfield in the league, loanee goalkeeper Urkun plays well and Sabah provides goals up front.
    UANL Tigres - "Tigres" - Fifth/Sixth/Seventh - Sam Wainwright
Players To Watch - Royston Drenthe, Andreas Ottl, Francisco Fonseca, Nicolas Gaston Fernandez and Blas Perez.
New Signings - Royston Drenthe and Andreas Ottl
Young Stars - Emmanuel Cerda and Royston Drenthe.
Season Will Go Well If - Ottl and Drenthe the two loan signings live up to their gleaming reputations, the poor defence is strengthened with some quality signings and Perez, Fernandez and Fonseca score a decent amount of goals between them.
    Toluca - "Los Choriceros" - Fifth/Sixth/Seventh - Gizb
Players To Watch - Paulo Da Silva, Antonio Naelson Zinha and Sergio Amaury Ponce.
New Signings - Hassan Yebda and Santiago Raymonda
    Young Stars - None
Season Will Go Well If - Da Silva and Zinha provide a solid base to the team, Ponce provides some service from the wings and 33 year old veteran striker Gimenez provides the final finish.

As for Fernandez, he has attracted interest from Arsenal in the past, but he is currently attracting interest from Lazio, Espanyol, Getafe and Atletico Madrid. He is likely to move to Spain in the Summer transfer window. He is not playing, either because of the transfer rumours (like Berbatov) or because he is injured, don't know which. He didn't make the Argentina Olympic squad, once again this might be because he is injured or he just wasn't part of the coaches plans.
Sell Ortega, keep the other 3.

    #1 Carlos Carmona

    Carmona Whilst At Coquimbo Unido.

Here is my first find of the new thread, and he won't dissapoint you. His name is Carlos Carmona, and he is from somewhere where it isn't very chilly, Chile. He was born on the 21st February 1987 in Coquimbo, Chile, and he is 1.78m in height.

    Coquimbo, Chile - Carmona's Hometown.

Back in 2005, Carmona burst onto the international scene during the 2005 Fifa U20 World Cup, he started 1 of Chile's 4 games against African side, Morocco. He was an unused substitute for 'La Roja's' first two Group C games against the Honduras and Spain, but played a full 90 minutes in Chile's final Group C match, against Morocco. Chile progressed to the round of 16, where tournament holders Holland stood in their way of a place in the last 8. Chile succombed to a 3-0 defeat, with Carmona replacing Ivan Vasquez in the 46th minute. This was an interesting debut tournament for the young midfielder, he was the youngest member of the Chile squad.
During the same year, Carmona was also a member of U20 Chile side that participated at the 2005 South American U20 Championship, he made 5 appearances in 9 matches, whilst being the youngest member of the squad again. Chile's opening game in the first stage came against Uruguay, Carmona was an unused substitute in a 0-0 draw. The next game saw Carmona make his debut in the competition, replacing Fernando Meneses in the 78th minute, with Chile taking the spoils by 3 goals to 2. Next up were the always tricky, Brazil. Unfortunately, Carmona sat on the bench for the entire game, with Brazil handing Chile their first defeat, by beating them 4-2. Carmona missed the final first stage match against Ecuador because of injury, but Chile still taught Ecuador a lesson in how to play football, by convincingly thumping them 5-1. 'La Roja' progressed to the final stage of the competition, and first up were Colombia. Chile were narrowly beaten 3-4 in a thrilling match, with Carmona replacing Jose Pedro Fuenzalida in the 77th minute, his second appearance of the tournament. Would Carmona get a starting 11 berth in the 2nd final stage match? Yes, he did. The start came against tournament favourites Argentina, Carmona was booked early on, in the 21st minute and was later replaced by Ricardo Parada in the 64th minute, nethertheless a start. The match ended level, at 2-2. Another place in the starting 11 followed against Venezuela, this time Carmona was replaced in the 46th minute by Sebastian Montesinos, but with Chile winning 2-3. However, Carmona started his third game in succession, with Brazil being the oponents. He played a full 90 minutes, but gained a booking in the 32nd minute. Chile still crawled to a 2-2 loss though. This booking was a blow to Carmona, as he had already picked up one earlier in the final stage. This meant he was suspended for Chile's final game against Uruguay. Chile picked up a point from the encounter, after a 2-2 draw. Carmona probably would have started, had he have been available for selection. A good tournament for Carmona, with 3 starts (2 against the best U20 sides in South America, if not the world), and 2 substitute appearances.
The 2007 editions of the Fifa U20 World Cup and the South American U20 Championship, both featured Carmona once again. He featured in 4 of Chile's 7 games at the Fifa U20 World Cup. The first group stage pitted Chile against Canada, Congo and Austria, and Carmona started all 3 of the games. The first match was against Canada, with Carmona scoring in the 54th minute with a header, and playing a full 90 minutes, nothing was ever going to stop Chile from winning, the full time score was 0-3. Next up were African side, Congo. Carmona once again played the full 90 minutes, helping Chile to a comfortable 3-0 win. Their final group match came against Austria, who frustrated Chile, and held them to an exciting 0-0 draw. This is where Carmona's tournament lost its sparkle. He picked up an injury and had to be substituted in the 29th minute, by Gary Medel. Carmona captained the side for all 3 matches. Chile progressed to the round of 16 where Portugal were their oponents. Carmona was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win for Chile. A 4-0 win against Nigeria in the quarter finals followed, with Carmona replacing super striker Nicolas Medina in the 46th minute, and picking up a booking in the 91st minute. Chile were finally beaten in the semi finals, against a very strong Argentina side 0-3. Carmona was an unused substitute. 'La Roja' had a chance to get 3rd place against Austria (who they drew with in the group stages). They delivered and deservedly won 0-1. However Carmona was once again left in the dugout for the full match. The tournament started brightly for Carmona, but gradually got worse as Chile progressed, but the South American U20 Championship 2007 proved to be completely different.
Carmona started all 9 of Chile's games, proving himself to be a supurb captain and midfield maestro. Chile's first game came against Brazil, Carmona played the full 90 minutes and was booked in the 37th minute. Brazil showed their class and won the match 4-2. Paraguay were next, and scraped a 1-0 win over 'La Roja', Carmona playing a full 90 minutes for the second match in succession. A 0-4 thrashing of Bolivia followed that, with Carmona playing the full 90 minutes again. A crucial victory for Chile, whose confidence needed lifting. Peru were next, and Carmona captained the side to a 2-4 victory, once again playing the whole match. With 2 wins and 2 losses, Chile progressed to the final stage of the competition. Colombia were up first, and Chile showed the other countries what they were all about with a comprehensive 0-5 victory, with Carmona playing his fifth successive 90 minutes, and picking up a booking in the 27th minute. Brazil who beat Chile in the first group stage followed the Colombia match, and a 2-2 draw was the final score. Carmona yet again playing the whole 90 minutes. One tough country, was followed by another as Argentina were up next for Chile. 0-0 was the result, and Carmona completed another 90 minutes. Draws were becoming all to common for Chile as a 1-1 draw against Uruguay followed. Carmona kept his record of never being substituted or a non starter, as he played another 90 minutes. Paraguay who edged Chile 1-0 earlier in the tournament were Chile's final game, and a win by one goal was again the result, with Paraguay winning 3-2. Carmona completed his excellent tournament with another full 90 minute display. Altogether Carmona completed around 810 minutes of football, captaining the side in every minute.
Next up on Carmona's International calender came the Toulon U21 Tournament 2008, this is a competition with 8 countries competing in it. He featured in 4 of Chile's 5 games. Chile were placed in group A with France, Holland and Japan, and first up were France. In a truly entertaining game Chile triumphed 3-5 winners, with Carmona playing 73 minutes before being replaced by Boris Sagredo. A more comfortable 0-2 win over Holland followed, with carmon aplaying the full 90 minutes. Carmona grabbed his first goal of the tournament in Chile's final group game against Japan, with a stunning 40 yard volley in the 75th minute. The final score was 2-0 to Chile and Carmona gained a booking in the 26th minute. Heartbreak was to hit Carmona in the semi finals against the Ivory Coast though, with Carmona only one booking away from suspension, a booking was to be avoided at all costs. Unfortunately, he was booked in the 34th minute. This was highly debatable and it ruled Carmona out of the final, if Chile got there. Chile ran out 2-1 winners, with Carmona playing the full match, and helping his beloved country whilst he could. Carmona's absence for the final, didn't help Chile, and they succombed to a 0-1 loss to Italy.

    Carmona's Spectacular Volley Against Japan.

On the positive side, Carmona's performances not only propelled him into the limelight, but he was then called up for Chile's 2010 World Cup Qualifying games against Bolivia and Venezuela. On the 15th June 2008 Carmona started the game against Bolivia, completing a full 90 minutes, and helping Chile to a 0-2 victory. 4 days later, on the 19th June 2008, Carmona once again played the full 90 minutes, this time against rapidly improving Venezuela. He also picked up his first senior intrenational booking, in the 16th minute. His performances were of a high standard, with people highly impressed in Chile.
Now onto the domestic side of things. From 2003-2005 Carmona was making a name for himself in his hometown's football clubs' youth academy (Coquimbo Unido). From 2005-2007, Carmona was in Coquimbo's first team squad, making 92 appearances, scoring 7 goals at a very young age. He moved to O'Higgins for the 2008 season in Chile, and it didn't take long for him to settle in. The 2008 Apertura bought 13 starts and 1 substitute appearance for the youngster. His goals came on the 8th March 2008 against Metipilla in the 5th minute, the 19th April 2008 agaianst La Serena in the 64th minute and finally on the 30th April 2008 against Universidad De Chile in the 5th minute, a tally of 3 goals in 14 appearances altogether. I do see a problem with Carmona's playing style based on this statistic though: 8 bookings. Discipline is a much needed necessity throughout the modern game, he must cut out these bookings if he is to become a top class player in Europe. The Clausura 2008 bought 3 starts and 2 more bookings, before Carmona took a big step in his career: To join Italian Serie A side Reggina. He officially moved to Italy on the 18th July 2008.

From Coquimbo Unido (Left), To O'Higgins (Center) And Now Reggina (Right).

Personal Viewpoint - I am very excited by this young prospect, as his physical style of play may suit Italian football. I am also anxious to find out where Reggina will play him, he was used on either wing in Chile at Domestic level, but on the international scene, he is played in either the holding role or the centre of midfield, in my opinion his best position. Who knows what the future brings, but hopefully it will be a bright one for Carlos Carmona.

    #4 Taison

    Taison Posing For The Cameras.

The greatest footballing country is next on my list, and I present you Taison Barcellos Freda (With a big thank you to Insider). He was born in Pelotas, Brazil on the 13th January 1988, making him 20 years of age. He is 1.72m in height.

The international scene has eluded Taison for now, but he will surely be capped at sometime in his career, which will be a very good one, so the domestic scene is my only source. He currently plays for "Nacao Vermelha", Internacional in his native country, Brazil.

Taison has burst onto the first team scene this season, but before we dive into that, we will take a look at his brief career before he became an important member of the Internacional squad. He was spotted by Gremio at first, and played through the youth ranks for a number of years, this then led to a trial with Intrenacional, but he was rejected. He then proved himself to be an excellent player in the State Youth Championships, his rise to prominence was once again seen by "Nacho Vermelha", but this time signed a contract with them until 2013, with a release clause of £33 million pounds, this shows how highly he is regarded by Internacional. His speed and dribbling are sensational, and has been compared to Milan star Alexandre Pato and Real Betis player, Rafael Sobis.

Gremio Spotted Him, Internacional Possess His Talent.

So onto the 2008 Brasileiro Serie A, where Taison has enjoyed breaking into the starting 11 on a regular basis. Altogether he has made 11 starts, appeared as a substitute twice, has scored 1 goal and has picked up 3 yellow cards. He scored his first ever goal for the first team, against Palmeiras just three days ago, on the 21st August 2008. His goal came in the 85th minute, after coming on as a substitute. His other substitute appearance came against Vitoria on the 22nd June. His three bookings came on the 6th July 2008 against Coritiba, the 26th July 2008 against Ipatinga and finally on the 2nd August 2008 against Fluminense. He has featured on both wings occasionally, but has mainly featured as part of a two/three man attacking midfield.

Personal Viewpoint - This player has a great future ahead of him, if he is being compared to Pato by his team mates, and is holding a regular spot in the starting 11, this 20 year old should start to raise a few eyebrows. With a £33 million pound release clause, Internacional must think he is star quality in the making.
