Has anyone else noticed that the current player 'skill' level 'up or down' system is not working? Or, and I would agree with this, the level of talent in World Football is in serious decline.

    Why?

Well, when Soccermanager started the following (arbitrary) rules could be applied:-

    95 - 99 World class star
    93 - 95 Top international
    91 - 92 Top club player, international
89 - 90 Good player, usually on their way down, or emerged as top young talent
87 - 88 Player on the cusp of making it, or veteran on the way down.
82 - 86 Good club player at a lesser club
80 - 82 Lower division player, but at a challenging club
75 - 79 Lower league player, or youth talent just breaking through into the first team.

When I first joined the list of the very top players (93 - 99) was modest, but roughly one or two pages of the transfer sections for all outfield positions (D, M, F). But then the next category (91-29) went on for three or four pages or more.

Now, we have a handful of really top class players, and even those in the 91-92 category in many positions has shrunk to one page!

So what are we saying? That in seven years (while I've been here) we've seen a terminal decline in international talent? Or is it more that the system is open abuse? Scores to settle between rival fans used to cut each others players ratings, embittered fans who's side are supposed to be 'top dogs' but won either a cup or nothing at all and are punishing their 'stars' on here, fans who know nothing about the player but listen to the brain dead pundits and vote on that basis?

Every single time the player changes come through maybe one or two (in the World!) players ratings go up, while loads go down. It's a daft way of doing things...

Is it a glitch or an 'improvement' that players stats have now all been lumped in together? Speaking personally it's a rubbish idea. The only stats I need (or want) in the squad table are league ones. These are the ones that tell you how well a player is doing, week in week out, not what he is doing against lesser sides in the cup, or in Europe. The latter are important, as for younger players in particular it shows how much experience you have given them, or, if you buy them in, how much they have gained, but the idea of 'all in one' for the squad stats is a bad one.

Please reverse it, as this is just one more nail in the coffin for me. I'm sick of pointless, ill thought out changes that are destroying my enjoyment of the game.

    Thanks

Is anyone from SMFA going to comment on the reason what player stats have been chucked in together? As an added bonus, it makes match selections harder. A player (with his combined totals) can look like he's on a roll, when in fact he's not scored a league goal in a month. So, you carry on picking them, they carry on not scoring, you drop points, and thanks to the other 'brilliant; changes to the match engine, that means you can forget challenging for the league.

    Utterly useless...

Far from great but at a quick glance it's usability is at least better , personally still think the old is still the best version to date and will continue to use it.

Yes, rules change, but clubs are given notice before they come into effect, usually during the off season, so they have time to adjust.
At no point in football history did anyone immediately double wages during the middle of a season, and expect clubs to manage with no balancing addition to income. At least real clubs get the benefit of huge TV deals and better merchandising incomes.
It's very hard to "just deal with it", when a club you've built up and a team you've assembled over years suddenly doesn't work any more (partly because of some moronic positioning change to your players, who overnight now can't play 10 yards further down the pitch than they could the day before...) and you now lose millions per week.
When it negatively affects all but the biggest 5% of clubs in the game, you know it's a poorly thought out plan.
Actually, in my cynical mind, I think it was deliberately planned that way - you can reserve clubs in new game worlds, right? For money? And there's only a few big clubs per game world now that can support the biggest stars and survive paying the wages? Hmm...
But I can't believe SM would do that, what with their immaculate and caring customer service record.

Is there any interest in the multi player game any more? By the staff that is?

Current issues in various game worlds -

Fixtures not drawn for SMFA competitions

Money vanishing from every clubs account, often at random.

Players wages spiralling to levels that are unaffordable - even for my Man Utd and Chelsea!

Not enough sponsorship and TV money to compensate - which is what happens in the real World.

The new interface is hideous. I have moderately poor eye sight, and the reason I dumped the single player game (which the new interface simply apes) is because I couldn't read half of the stats without my nose (literally) to the screen! Nice one! The 'for the phone' idea of various boxes reminds me of the Windows 8.1 calamity, as SMFA have taken a perfectly good, easy to use GUI, and turned it into an over complex, 'for the hipsters' new version.

The new transfer fee's are ludicrous. They are no longer realistic given the price of players outside the 'golden few', these days, and asking £30 million odd for a half decent defender makes a mockery of the game.

The new formations are a joke. Using 3-5-2 as but one example, half the players that would (in reality) be able to fit it, are now 'not fully suited'. Yeah, right...

The way the game engine now works, every 'big club' is going to win, and win by a big margin. They do.

Added to that, and partly because of it, every league title race is now like the Monaco GP. Once you are in front from the start of the season, it's over...

Worst of all, no-one is taking on board a single complaint any one is making.

As I said at the start, SMFA, do you want us to carry on using the multi player version?

    Be honest now...

Great post. Summed up everything wrong but I could not be bothered to write up myself.

Of all the cosmetic, money & value problems managing to mess up the game engine is just terrible.

Its so boring if you have a good team now you just win.. win... win & normally by between four & seven goals.

Thats not football. Thats how you kill enjoyment & competition.

Might as well forget it. This is happening to me and loads of other members. I have posted a bug report for one of my teams, one many others in the same league have (SMFA Champions Cup fixtures not drawn), and it's been sitting there for a month now. There is either not enough staff, or not enough interest in the multiplayer game coming from SMFA now.

Disillusionment is turning into disinterest the longer this goes on.

Which in turn means waving goodbye to the game once my Gold membership lapses.

    Re: New Improvements
I'm not one to grumble about Soccermanager, normally that is, but the new 'improvements' are a pain in the proverbial. Instead of the newer, better format of teams side by side in descending order, they are now back to being just one long column of clubs, squeezed up and harder for people like me (with glasses) to read. The process of leaving a club then going back to the 'clubs screen' has been dropped and how you have to faff about going back to a pointless splash screen and going back into the club screen each time you change clubs! I mean why?
