  1. Hope this shows up clearly enough, systems were down at work today so decided to have a look through and see where everyone was at - be interesting to repeat this in a couple of months and see how it's changed.

Most stats should be obvious, but 'Est T20 debt' is the estimated amount a club will have paid in wages by turn 20 which (for most) is when TBs will be up; based on this and squad sizes I've highlighted grey the teams that might be in a bit of bother as they might not have the squad depth required to sell their way out of debt....but we'll see!

'Wages to value' is the percentage of squad value that the wage bill is per turn, thus the lower the better.

The whole thing is sorted by 'Squad value v Cost' which is current squad value minus what was originally paid - yours truly tops the list at the moment while some folk clearly overpaid in the heat of the bidding wars - however....it's very early days yet and risers and droppers will inevitably shake things up as we go forward :)

  2. Delighted to report our brand of silky football and star name drawing power appears to be winning over the locals - our crowd tripled from the first game to a whopping 1,500+ :P

Still lost another £400k though, so just the -£1.4m after 3 games (2 of them at home!)

The Riverhounds make the relatively short trip of 254 miles down the interstate to play Dayton Douche Lions in their first ever CanAmJam fixture, and after a late flurry of signings the Hounds boss will have a headache trying to decide which line-up to unleash on the Lions.

He could go with the experienced XI of:

    Boruc (87)

    Hutchinson (87) Marquez (87) Kucher (88) Ze Roberto (86)

    Cambiasso (87) Linetty (85)

    Hleb (85) Robinho (88) Ronaldinho (85)

    Klose (89)

Alternatively he may field a mixture of youth and experience:

    Lopez (85)

    Orban (83) Mina (84) Salcido (85) Jorge (83)

    Verre (84) Beasley (83)

    Mayoral (82) Aimar (84) Malcom (83)

    Grafite (85)

Or, he may wish to really go with youth and field the Riverpups:

    Steffen (70)

    Calabria (80) Dinga (76) Kutepov (78) Martella (80)

Ascacibar (82) Van De Beek (80)

    Pavon (80) Golovin (80) Boga (80)

    Boye (80)

In fact the only players most observers feel will not feature at all are: Tche (78), Llamas (75), Llorente (78), Blas (77), Clayson (78), Thompson (77), Thill (65), Scammacca (70), Rigo, (70) and Zanellato (70).

  4. Current Pittsburgh Riverhounds 1st XI:

pparently after 2 screenshots I'm too near my upload allowance to post the pic of my 2nd XI:

                                                      Steffen (70)

                         Orban (83) Mina (84) Salcido (85) Jorge (83)

                                       Ascacibar (82) Beasley (83)

                                     Boga (80) Aimar (84) Malcom (83)

                                                    Mayoral (82)

Did not join till late last night, so missed out on most players I would have gone for :( but never mind .

At least Orange County Blues will now have some players I don't normally have.

Also on the upside you’ll avoid bidding wars and be able to buy players at CV as most if not all of us are skint now, so you’ll get better value for money :)

Considering whose involved in this setup, everyone should already be aware of this rofl

You would think....tbh it's more to make the point about potential crowd sizes rather than the wages - I suspect the crowds might be very small so for a 88-rated team you basically need to set aside £15m in wages.

  7. As the bids get underway, might be worth bearing in mind that based on £20 a ticket, crowd income will roughly be:

    • if 500, 20x 500 x 17 = £170,000 for the season
    • if 1000 = £340,000
    • if 2000 = £680,000

    Just 1 x 86 rated player at £18k x 36 = £648,000, 87's are on £936k and 88's on £1.296m.

Thought I'd throw that out there while everyone is going for the big stars - very rich economy might mean the tickets cost more but then again we are in D4/ D5.....there'll be other income too of course but just some food for thought! :D

Hahah thats ridiculous. Whats SM doing? Maybe get a mod onto it (not that i have any faith in the system).

I'll get all the info back up on the opening post at some point, it's more Nick I feel for as he'd put all that effort into that great post and a few others had done some lengthy posts too.

Regarding bidding: everyone from the original 21 who were interested are either now in or have been PM'd by me (in-game) asking that they apply for their club asap.

Was unaware of this, but apparently in an empty squad custom no bids can be made in the first 48 hours so looks like we should be able to bid by 6am (UK-time) on Friday morning - on the bright side that's plenty of time to get a few more bodies in and get those short-lists sorted! :)

  9. Hi everyone, the main thread has er, vanished :o so post everything CanAmJam related here for now until Craig sees if he can retrieve the main thread.

The gameworld was created earlier today, but annoyingly I am unable to offer jobs out for some reason so anyone who has not done so already please apply for your team - i.d. is 341872.

Edit: The word is that the original thread is officially gone (always a great thing to happen on launch-day ), so I'll edit this post when I have the chance with all of the main info.

For anyone looking to join up the main points are:

    • 5 divisions of 18; every available USA and Canadian team on SM, plus several Jamaican teams completing D5
    • only D4 and D5 teams can be managed in a race to the top
    • empty squads
    • £60m starting balance
    • very rich economy (as we expect some brutally low crowds in the lower divisions)
    • 4 up 4 down

Currently there is one spot in D4 (at London SC if I know you), otherwise any unmanaged club in D5 can be applied for.

  14. Bit more detail to update on; having cross-checked the SM database against reality (which is not for the faint-hearted especially the state of the Canadian teams) I reckon we will have 41 clubs to choose from and the  the divisions will break down like this:

D1) Top 9 from MLS East and West at time of creation = 18

D2) Bottom 1 from MLS East and West, all 12 NASL clubs, +4 unpicked = 18

    D3) Unpicked from the choice of 41 = 18

D4) OUR PICKS from the choice of 41 = 18

    D5) The 7 'B' teams from USL, + 10 from Jamaica, +1 unpicked = 18

By 'B' team I mean the likes of Toronto B, LA Galaxy B etc. as didn't think anyone would be fussed about them.

We will therefore be picking from the 22 remaining USL clubs, the 7 random Canadian teams SM have, and the 12 US teams SM have that are either defunct or so new they don't play yet - I'll type them up later but unless anyone really wants a particular club then Ed will do a grand draw once we have our 18.

18 per division gives us a Shield competition which 16 wouldn't, but does of course give us a target of 18 managers (any over the 18 could be offered a D5 team) - I've fired out a few PMs today and will send more later....probably making this harder than it needs to be by not creating a go-to thread but thought word of mouth is best early on!

  15. 1 hour ago, HannahB said:

Sounds a great idea Machine. A good forum thread always made a gameworld good.

I've only just come back on SM after a bit of time away from it so a good new gameworld will be good,.

This is my first post on the forum in 16 months

Welcome back! I was still dropping in now and then but only for a quick read so think the other day was the first time I'd actually logged in for about 14 months - but we might as well give it a go and see what happens!

I had a look at teams again last night so I reckon our choice is between 16 of us and no Shield competition or if we go for 18 the larger schedule gives us a Shield competition.

If we go with 18 then that also spices things up as I'd be bringing the Jamaicans in to help fill up D5 (think it's 65 USA, 14 Canada, 12 Jamaica)...then instead of Can-Am I guess it'd be the Can-Am-Jam league!

Starting budget is multiples of 10m and thinking more like £50-60m now as the D1 MLS teams will be good but not great so I'd probably argue for as low a budget as people would be happy with.

  16. 56 minutes ago, EdMoses said:

I can confirm my "banter" will be rude, direct, regular and committed. Cant promise laughs but plenty of effort.

Well part of the Can-Am appeal was that a lot of the team names are a veritable gold-mine of pun/ innuendo possibilities...!

    56 minutes ago, EdMoses said:

    PS - Bagsy Seattle Sounders!

Seattle Sounders hmmm are they still getting 60,000 crowds then?! ;) We will be choosing from non-MLS teams that's for sure as part of the challenge will be to get to the dizzying heights of D1 MLS.

    55 minutes ago, EdMoses said:

Although saying that - I could do a managers out of the hat type forum reveal like I did for Progress?

I'll see if I can find some open customs with the non-MLS teams to gauge whether they all get similar crowds...or we just say luck of the draw and go for it! Either way a live-ish draw would be fun.

    42 minutes ago, swanseajack said:

Yeah, that's what I see as the purpose of the set up really. We've all played this game for a long time, and I don't think the game itself going to pluck up anything new or interesting but I miss the good old days of the interaction in the game world threads.

Absolutely no FB and newsfeed mainly just for the type of banter that might get you a ban on the forum. A total newsfeed ban I think is unrealistic as newsfeed is so easy. I haven't tried posting a picture since the forum changed but at the very least I'd hope the forum thread will become a decent match report thread.

If you don't mind Ed I'll post a summary on here later that we can refer 'the chosen ones' to for a look then they can PM us yes or no - I'll only start a separate thread once we've good numbers so I can keep the riff-raff at bay and save any hurt feelings....

  17. 49 minutes ago, EdMoses said:

So roughly the working rules would be - Age Restrtictions? Rating Cap? Squad Size? Values? Open auctions? Turn based purchases? etc.

Or are we saying a free for all with blank squad and big budget?

Personally I start to glaze over when there are multiple rules, so the fewer the better and then once we're up and running if we feel something needs fixing we can vote. An appropriate starting budget should naturally keep squad size down and ratings lower - I don't want people to feel they have to be an expert scout to be competitive but equally don't think it's good if everyone can bid on Messi straight away, so maybe something like £75 -100m? That allows £5m a head for First XI and £20m for reserves/youths, although I'll check the budget options as not sure how precise we can be.

    33 minutes ago, swanseajack said:

I think blank squads, big budgets, few/no restrictions sounds good. Just a laugh really and shouldn't be too serious.

This is my thinking, more will be turned off by too many rules than too little so let's get everyone locked in first...and then we can start with the 'on turn 12 you must play a 3-3-4 only with players who were born in April and who have the letter Y in their name'....! :o

    Interested.   Might have an idea

I've always thought it'd be good fun to have a proper full-scale Can-Am gameworld (not just your standard 20-team 1 division rubbish) with every single available Canadian and US team (64ish in total at my last count).

This would allow for 4 divisions of 16 meaning shorter 30-game seasons, probably with 4 up and 4 down to keep everyone on their toes.

Not expecting or wanting to have 64 managers we could have 16 of us start off in D4 and race to the top GBL- style (only with more cash and no rating cap as this is to be less serious).

Alternatively if there is more than 16 of us I could add in some Jamaican/ Cuban etc. clubs, switch to 5 divisions and then if we start in D4 there is then a 'trap-door' for 4 unlucky souls.

I think blank squads are a must (not least because most of the teams are blank anyway!) but while looking to keep it simple it might be fun to say everyone must have at least 1 token Canadian and/or USA player...?

As I say start off with plenty cash but then I'd maybe alternate rich and poor economies season to season so that there isn't an abundance of cash by season 3 (I don't expect high attendances anyway).

These are the bare bones of it, but happy to tweak to suit the majority as really want to get as many of you all as possible on board.....so come on you Roughnecks, Hammerheads and Rowdies - what do you think???! ;)

  19. Hi all, long time no type!

It sounds as if what we all need is a fresh, new, exciting challenge that we can all rally around and get on board with as an authentic forum-based (no FB page and newsfeed chat to a minimum) gameworld?

Right now - for those of us that are not already grumpy old men - we certainly sound like grumpy old men, grumpy old men who are in real need of a place where  we can gather together, reminisce about the old days, and maybe enjoy a bit of sunshine in the process....I speak of a gameworld where access is exclusive, where there are no cheating children, no SMFA, just old friends reuniting and having a laugh (and doubtless a moan when results come in!).

I know that if there was sufficient interest I'd certainly drop a few teams to give such a venture proper attention.

I've long thought of an updated, tougher version of the GBL but I appreciate that rating caps aren't everyone's cup of tea so I think I've an idea for a more standard approach that is simple enough but with a few twists to keep things interesting and help it stand out from the crowd.

    Anyone interested in hearing more?

ALBION ROVERS FC: GBL points = 1

    zFWEYFO.jpg?2Zaj2GwO.jpg?2e12xAzt.jpg?2

Albion Rovers were another tough gig in the GBL but everyone's favourite SM rebel ExiledScot confounded the critics and showed early signs of promise with a record home win of 7-0 against (who else ) TNS, and a 3-1 'giant-killing' of Aberdeen in the cup.

Unfortunately the story goes that as ExiledScot's battles with the SM authorities escalated he was spending more time being hauled up in front of the SMFA than on the training pitch and 'wild man' Belkevitz departed the club after a turbulent 18-month stint in charge.

What Albion Rovers really needed next was stability; a cool head who could really commit to the club and fix the defensive problems that had been their achilles heel.

Fluffy was appointed shortly after :P

After a few weeks of working on the team, Fluffy led them to an extremely narrow record league defeat of 0-10 against the world superstars of, er, Bournemouth

With the fans out for blood few were surprised when the enigmatic Fluff decided that the delights of Cliftonhill weren't really for him and he departed just 19 days later.

If the early part of 2013 was Albion Rovers' lowest ebb, then the appointment of Mr. Hancock in June 2013 and his 4-month reign would see the club enjoy it's 'golden months', culminating in a D4 play-off final defeat that would be the closest the club ever got to D3 (but is sufficient to see them into 17th place in the GBL countdown).

Slightly less impressive was Mr. Hancock's club record signing of then 76-rated Marian Sarr for a hefty £2.8m.....despite rising +2 since then Sarr was sold at a £600,000 loss in January 2015 after just 53 appearances during which he achieved a dismal 5.98 average performance rating.

GBL TOP 20 TO BE CONTINUED.....

    5q1RcBo.jpg?2f22BAIw.jpg?2

The artist formerly known as Longnose helped get the GBL off the ground with his 1-season contract with Airbus but unfortunately the club itself remained firmly grounded in D4 with Airbus never climbing higher than a D4 altitude (all puns intended! :D).

This was despite the arrival of strict disciplinarian Sgt. Fury - he briefly knocked them into a bit of shape with several great signings such as record signing Vaclav Pilar who would eventually be sold on to net the club a whopping £5.7m profit

Ultimately though this was one war even the Sarge couldn't win and the highest league finish of 4th in D4 that sees Airbus into 18th place was achieved several seasons after his departure.
