THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE SHOW - TURN 1
Welcome to the first addition of The Football League Show, as we present coverage from the action of Fercasti's Nasty Pasties Championship, Hammer Times League 1 & Latouche's Douches League 2. There's plenty of big games to look forward to from all of the divisions and it's certainly not a dissapointing night as far as The Football League is concerned. Jeff Stelling presents the show with Nigel Clough as the expert Pundit and Georgie Thompson reading out the fans comments from across The Football League.
The Championship
Stelling: We kick off coverage in The Championship. With Manchester United already creating controversy in the division, and although plenty of people's eyes will be centered at Manchester United this season in this division plenty of teams will be looking to try and make there own impact on what has been a very tight division in previous seasons with plenty to play for.
We start off with the main game of the day, as Peterborough visited Manchester United at a half-full Old Trafford in what was a massive day out for Peterborough.

Stelling: So is this a decent point for Manchester United then?
Clough: I think it's a decent point. It could have been much worse for United against a strong Peterborough side who did play well today.
Stelling: Does this performance tell us much about where United will end up this season?
Clough: It's very early on, and even at the half way stage of the season a lot can change. We'll just have to see how long it can take for them to adapt to this level before really juding there chances of automatic promotion, the play-offs or if worst comes to worse relegation.
Stelling: Now onto some of the other games in the division, as Dagenham face Cardiff and Southend face Burnley in the high scoring games of the day.

Stelling: Plenty of goals in the division then, with 8 goals at Dagenham and 7 at Southend.
Clough: Yes, certainly entertaining but perhaps a bit of a show that the sides coming up into the divison might not have what it takes defensively. They both did well getting forward, but defensively they just weren't strong and both ended up losing as a result.
Stelling: Out of Dagenham and Southend, who would you say is the most likely to stay up in the division?
Clough: For me it's got to be Southend, they seem to have more quality than Dagenham but i can't see how both of these sides can't survive.
Stelling: Now we're onto some of the lower scoring games, and although the scorelines were lower they weren't any less entertaining.

Stelling: Nice wins for Hull, Swansea & Brighton to start off there season. Will they be sides to watch out for this season?
Clough: They certainly have the ability to do so, and were sides that finished high up in the table last season but it's very early on yet.
Stelling: Can Hull recover from last season? Wesley Sneijder was on the scoresheet today, and can he finally live up the expectation at Hull?
Clough: It looks like he can, today he was very good and deserved his goal. Ryan Giggs was also very good for Swansea and Darren Bent found the net in his Brighton debut as a new goal threat for them.
Stelling: Now onto the final four games of the Championship, starting with Derby-QPR as they both looked to try and recover with them both on the back of miserable seasons.

Notbale in the later games was Oldham's season opener defeat away to Colchester as they got off to a bad start to the season following there play-off final defeat. Clough: Yes, they didn't really turn up today and they'll be dissapointed with a defeat in a game that you'd have backed them to win when they were at there best last season, it might just be a tough season for them aswell. Stelling: Ipswich also picking up a good win away to Plymouth, as they bounced back from there relegation, can they be a threat for the automatic promotion places? Stelling: Lets start by reviewing your team Nigel, as Gillingham were beaten by 11 goals to 2 by recentley relegated West Brom. Can you share your thoughts on the game? Clough: I wasn't particularly pleased with the performance, but at least we got forward and scored two goals. I'm hoping Wright-Phillips and Gudjohnsen can keep on knocking in the goal and we could be serious contender for automatic promotion. Stelling: If things don't go well for you this season, do you think long-term you have the side to earn promotion? Clough: Definatly, we've potentially got some of the best Masters League players of all time and i'm hoping that in the summer we'll be competing in the competiton, and if things go well we could earn a financial boost to bring in some more of Premiership quality of the last decade. Stelling: Moving on and you've seen some good teams pick up three points today, who do you think can earn automatic promotion or challenge for the play-offs this season. Clough: Aside from Gillingham i think that West Brom, Burton and Northampton are all looking very strong. They've got strong squads and they seem to beable to win games even when they don't play well so i'm going to back those three to do well this season. Stelling: Simon Cox scored four goals today, whilst Negredo scored a brace. Who do you think are the leading contenders for the golden boot this season. Clough: I think Cox will be up there, although he wont score four goals every game and my money would be on Negredo who seems to beable to score week in week out and what a signing he's turned out to be for Northampton. Stelling: Now on to possibly the Gillingham fans with Georgie Thompson who has the fans comments on todays action for League 2.
Fans Comments
Thompson: Well Gillingham fans have got in touch today and have spoken about how they rate there chances this season and what they thought of tonights performances.

Devasteing defeat , I dominated the possession 57% to 43% but lose so bloody cruelly on penaltys . My boys have done me very proud. We have been a credit to division 4 in the cups.
Im very unhappy

Brilliant! Only found out on Tuesday that he'd signed with Cannes and he's on the DB already!
Bit pricey for a 38 year old 86, but couldn't pass up the chance to have him at Southend
Only minimal competition too, guess everyone was too busy with Delgado and Mangane to notice

Great British League: Division 4 Crime Count, season 1 (half-way)
Sadly the table that features the most British players is the hackers table with 11 spots occupied by the Brits.
Top of the crowd though is striker Mattia Destro of Dumbarton - given that he plays up front we can only guess that ill discipline and a tendancy to indulge in simulation are the prime causes....

Great British League: Division 4, season 1 (half-way)
Fleetwood Town are currently 8 points clear at the top of Division 4 and the fans will be calling for the manager's head if the club does not now kick on and secure automatic promotion.
Of the chasing pack it's all quite close but Barrow will be hoping that their miserly defence will keep up the good work and give them the edge in the run-in, while the cynics will think that over-achieving Prestatyn's bubble must surely burst soon.
Of the mid-table teams Tamworth are in a shocking run of form and will hope to correct that before they slide down the table any further, while Stenhousemuir are going in the other direction as they are second only to Fleetwood in current form and are the only Division 4 team who are unbeaten in their last six league games.
In the Division 4 basement there appears to be a mini-league of three who will battle it out for the wooden spoon; Montrose, Annan, and The New Saints are in danger of being cut adrift although Montrose could point to their superior goal difference, especially in comparison to that of The New Saints who have shipped on average at least 4 goals every match, with their manager resolutely sticking to his 3-3-4 philosophy.
Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread
Happy days again at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest confirm their survival in Division 3!
From rock bottom when I took over then I'm pleased to end the relegation fears with 3 games to spare.
Next stage will be to shift a few of the golden oldies and get us up the other end of the table next season.

CUP KICK-OFF DELAYED???
It looks as if the kick-off of tonights big Cup match between the mighty Stenhousemuir warriors and sassenach big-shots Manchester City may be delayed, as apparently the Manchester City coach driver is struggling to find Stenhousemuir on the map!
The Ochilview View can report that the team bus had to make a detour off the A74 where it stopped at Dinwoodie Lodge Hotel for directions.
Hamish Balfour, a guest at the hotel, stated, "Ah wiz pure shoacked when yon big beastie o' a bus poolt in and Tevez and Dzeko and Silva and Toure and aw them got oot.
Ah was haein a gab wi wee Gareth Barry, an he wiz sayin the coach driver wiz aw confused as he husnae had tae drive ootside of Englun afore, and disnae know his way roon Scoatlin.

"Ello? Ello? Where a eez theese place that you call a da Stenmuir House?"
Re: Squad Sizes
I think a previous fella has the solution sold.
Make wage demands much more common pricing people out of holding huge squads.
And the unhappy factor really isn't that unhappy at the moment it needs to be turned up in real life players would be demanding a transfer years before SM kicks in with a transfer demand.
Onc ethe unhappy is turned up if a player demands a transfer the chairman should take control of the sale set a minimum value (being the computer valuation) and sell to the highest bidder who ever it is.
turn it up turn it up.
Re: Squad Sizes
Personally, I've got a load of good players I rarely use...but so do four or five other managers in my league who are my main 'rivals'. I recognise this is going to ultimately damage the long-term future of my setup because other teams will just give up as they can't get hold of any of the best players. But if I sell my excess baggage then all that will happen is that my rivals will snap them up and so neither I, nor the setup, benefits. At best, the setup stays the same while I lose out.
Slap a cap on (say 60 - 30 first team / 30 youth team) and that wealth gets spread. It forces me to plan and choose who stays and who goes. It gives everyone plenty of opportunity still to scout and bring in young players / risers - but the need to free up squad space would then force you to KEEP scouting and monitoring the players you've already got, as well as those you might want to bring in in future. Currently, I can get them in, see them rise and then afford to leave them alone while I wait and see if they ever go up again. No skill in that. Make me make a judgement.
I want a competitive setup. But the game is geared towards hogging at the moment. And the bigger clubs have the resources to hog more than the smaller ones do. I'd definitely favour a cap - and the lower the better (without getting silly - 50 should be the absolute lowest, 60 seems fair).
Re: Quitters Hall
Vince McMahon - 1 Game with FF Jaro - W.A.S.T.E.L.A.N.D.S. - W.A.S.T.E.R.
Done on purpose to enter the hall?
You be the judge...
John Rossiter - 2 games with Northampton - Veneratio League - 2 games/0 points = LOOOOOOSER
Patrick Slater - 24 minutes with Ebsfleet - The Trenches - Never darken my door again
Not Hamish Woodward - 13 games with Northampton - Veneratio League - Thanks for your commitment

Re: AI auto-filling teams help please!
I took an African side, Amazulu, in a custom setup a few months ago and they had less than 21 players, all the players brought in were rated 80 (including Bradley Wright-Phillips and Stern John) so it varies a bit what you'll be given, although it probably depends on what rating the few players in your team are, so if they're all rated 75 you probably won't get a load of 60s coming to join you! Maybe...
Re: The BIG vote: Reserve Team tab?
totally agree re: style over substance and the 2d thing. Would add nothing. Just trying to copy PC sim games like Football Manager
in terms of the dev work - it would be a tiny code change to rename Youth team to Reserve and allow over 21s in
the youth team squad, as it is, serves absolutely no purpose of any value.
come on, SM... fewer bells and whistles and better real options please
