  1. Div 1 looks like it will be a tight league this season...
  2. Are we putting all posts on this site, now, including match reports? If so, I'd like to say that my chaps at Northampton are playing quite well and have advanced to the next round of the cup. Thank you
  3. Yes, I thought it looked a bit funny - just like the real thing
  4. I'm game to start contributing again - but the format is still awkward compared to the old version
  5. Not really, old chum - I dont want to break up the squad - which I'm very happy with (also, too indebted to replace them)
  6. Div 2 - CARLISLE 1 NORTHAMPTON 5 Our best result of the season! Carlisle have led this division all year and had only conceded 4 goals at home before tonight. We got a big helping hand when they had a red card with the score at 1-1, but ran away with it and restricted our opponents to just 2 shots on target. We play 3rd and 4th placed teams next in the toughest run of matches we could have been given.
  7. Northampton's Div 2 season has been a roller coaster thus far. Our form has been decent recently - but we started the season horriblly and really struggled for goals for a long time. Once we started to win a couple SMFA intervened by crocking most of our star players on a regular basis. Worst hit are our strikers - Benteke just returned from 3 weeks out and was immediately crocked for a further 3 weeks in his comeback game. I've not seen that happen before in 7 years of playing the game. A tough run coming up with a Quarter Final Shield match up at Div 1 Bolton taking place 2 days before
  8. A lot of people missed this start-up, I think. If you open a new GW with a forum base, can you post news of it in EC7046?
  9. After a dismal start to our season Northampton have come good of late to edge up the table and into 2nd spot in Div 2. Our shoddy away form has improved since we put out a more attacking formation when travelling which has also seen us start to score a lot more. We got to playoffs last season and looking to go one better this time around. We've had horrendous injury problems all season which has seen fringe players like Di Santo and Arnold play more regularly and they've done well. Di Santo was the last signing I made before going horribly into debt and I have big hopes that he can still
  10. I think I've finally worked out this new forum thingy - but you have to be a NASA space shuttle pilot to understand it immediately. Another good season in 7046 well underway, with some outstanding performances by promoted sides, particularly Sheff United who were the best team in Div 2 last season and now vying for the Title in Div 1. Division 2 will also be a good contest with some decent sides in contention.
  11. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Goats and Monkeys ! The run-in from hell. Northampton prove themseves to be the "Newcastle" of SMFA Division 2. Today was a bad day for the appropriately monikered "Cobblers". We've been in the top 2 or 3 all season, but have recently become the Origami Men of Division 2 (completely folding under pressure). Just when we needed to finish strongly we've ended the season with an abject run of form. I've become the John Carver of SMFA. We haven't won for weeks, we haven't dominated a match for ages and I appear to have absolutely no grasp o
  12. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread DIVISION 2 - THE GROUP OF DEATH Almost impossible to predict how Division 2 will look after 38 matches. We've had various leaders throughout the season and only 5 points cover the top 5. Everyone in the top 8 will fancy their chances of an automatic promotion place and the playoffs will feel like a disappointment to those that miss out. Sheff United looked away and clear a few weeks ago - but a run of 5 winless matches has seen them get sucked back into the pelaton. Walsall's 1-0 win at the Blades saw them join the leading pack whilst wound
  13. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread You have better pies. We have an official capacity of "7,600". After getting promoted we had the stadium expanded to 13,000 - and we sell out pretty frequently. It is witness to our enterprising style of football and half time mud wrestling that keeps bringing the fans back for more. There is actually no way I can run the club at a profit - so I wish SMFA would allow me to borrow money so I could participate in tranfers. It's good to see some internal deals going on...after 12 seasons any GW risks getting stale, but the managers in 7046 a
  14. Re: English Championship 7046 Match Reports/Transfer Gossip Thread div 2 PRESTON 2 NORTHAMPTON 3 Nice to be at the right end of a 5-goal thriller for a change. This win propels us back into second place, leapfrogging the Swindon bumpkins who slumped to abject defeat. Leaders Sheff United also lost so this was an important win for us that was achieved two minutes from the end of a ding dong battle in which the lead changed twice. Victory had the added bonus of putting some distance between us and Preston, who sit 6th. A really tough run of matches will now see us take on Arsenal and Wa
  15. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Hey, it's not my fault I'm mountained in debt. We only get 6 people to a home match, we've got a massive wage bill and I've had a bad run at the bookies. Buying players is the least of my concerns. Not having my legs broken by the loan sharks who keep Northampton afloat is my immediate problem.
  16. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Well, lost at home 2-3 to Wigan to ruin the week 2-0 up, pegged back to 2-2 and then this... .How can you be offside when you've just cut inside the defender? Madness Of course, they then nick it at the death with a goal in-off the post. We need technology in this game - the ref had a shocker
  17. Re: English Championship 7046 Match Report/Tranfer Gossip Thread NORTHAMPTON AIM TO KEEP THE RUN GOING Div 2 title hopefuls Northampton Town have hit some good form recently - but still trail leaders Sheffield United by 6 points as we enter the "business end" of the season. I have to pay credit to the Blades' manager Dave Crawford. His squad is by no means the strongest in the division - but he has an awesome record of getting the best out of them, including a 4-0 thumping of us at their place in the first half of the season. With Arsenal and Man City now under new leadership I would expe
  18. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread A good night for Northampton as we cruise to a 4-0 win at Ipswich to stay 2nd in Div 2. A few negatives though , we lose our starting CB for 8 weeks to injury and all the other top sides won also. Having seen off a team in form tonight, we play another next. The rapidly improving Tranmere have climbed to 6th after a long unbeaten run. We need to keep momentum as Sheff United still show no sign of faltering at the top. Hopefully their ongoing Shield heroics will take something out of them soon and give us a glimmer of hope.
