    THE ELIMINATION GAUNTLET

    FOREWORD

Not long after creating The Protégé, life began to catch up with me and I was having less and less time on SM. Difficult for someone like me who was constantly tweaking ideas in my head for new inventive and original custom game worlds to challenge others to challange ourselves in. It definitely took a while for me to get my creative spark back, but recently I have conjured up inspiration from somewhere in my head and am now sitting on 2-3 new ideas for concepts to challenge you guys with.
I still love my ‘events’. I still favour the GW that has a path and concludes in an ending where there can be only one Champion. To me EVERY other game world will just slowly die a death as people begin to leave, less and less people are interested to come in and take a team they didn’t build themselves. There are of course exceptions to this but in general this happens over and over.
I decided to send out nine ‘pre-reveal’ first refusal offers to the forumers I have noticed have a loyalty to my previous setups and rewarded them with a first refusal place in this new one. There are others I could have chosen, but didn’t get in the 9 (ten including me obviously). Please don’t be offended if you were not in the nine, maybe next time.
I am however delighted to reveal that all the PM’ed forumers replied with acceptance so we’re good to go. Sorry to those of you that would now want to join, I guess that’s just life.
So here is my first offering since June 26th –

    GAME WORLD ID: 159263

    GAUNTLET – A Definition

    Go through an intimidating or dangerous crowd, place, or experience in order to reach a goal;
    A form of punishment;
    A challenge issued;
    Any trial, difficulty, or obstacle

    THE SET-UP

I’m asking for nine forumers to join me in a challenge where the ten of us will attempt to ‘Run the Gauntlet’.

There will be no friends; it’s a bitter dash to the finish line where only one of us will survive.
Each season, whoever is the last placed former managed side, must resign as a victim of the Gauntlet. Simple as that really, finish behind everyone else, and you’re out!

The setup will last for nine seasons. Each team will begin the game world empty and need to be built from scratch. There are very specific rules for how you can build you team.

Each team must only consist of 22 players.
No players rated over 94 (so players rated 95-99 are not allowed).
If any of your players rise above 94 in rating they must be sold within 1 week and are NEVER permitted to be played EVER.

Each squad can only have ONE player of each rating (so one player of 94 rating, one of 93, one of 92…so on…down to one of 73). You can miss a rating number if you want to, though I’m not sure why you would chose to do that.
When players get rises/decreases in rating, you will have 1 week to sell one of the players that now have the same rating. You will have to exchange out one of the two players that now share a rating and bring someone else in of the rating that you now have no player.
You can NEVER field a team of 18 (starting 11 and 7 substitutes) that includes two players that have the same rating. This is considered a serious rule break.·Any team left over after their manager has been eliminated are fair game to buy from, though this may not cause a frenzy as they only have 22 players.

A minimum of one former will leave the Elimination Gauntlet each season (the last placed one).

I want a good set of dedicated forumers to enter this setup.

A promise not to quit until officially eliminated will be required.

Should anyone actually chose to resign before they are eliminated (before matchday 18 is complete and shown as the final table on SM), that makes them an ass, ruining it for others, and crying like a baby because you are running from the worry of finishing last. Please see the ‘PRIZES’ section below to see an incentive to stick with it and accept your elimination and resign at the right time.

In all seriousness though, if someone does quit they will not be replaced. There is no shortlist for The Elimination Gauntlet. There will still be an elimination at the end of every season as originally planned. In the sad event that someone does quit before matchday 18 is finished, it would just mean that two people got eliminated that season and the game world would last only eight seasons total rather than the scheduled nine. The more people that do this would shorten the game world by a season every time. So please don’t quit unless you are officially eliminated, lets make this nine full seasons as it is designed. It’s only a game after all.

    THE TEAMS

As teams are starting empty, it doesn’t really matter to me which team you want to have. Obviously you want a reasonable size stadium to cover costs. With the structure of player ratings in your squad for this game world, you should easily be able to cover your wages each turn with a mid-size stadium capacity club. So it’s up to you, chose whoever you want. First come first served in terms of who gets teams that two or more people want.

I went through the database of players and researched every rating that is good for this GW. I took the 10 top results from these searches and noted the first and tenth players values from the search. I then took an average of those two prices and noted it. Once I had done that for ratings 73-94 I added up all those average values and came out with just over 170m. I will round it up to an even 180m and feel that is ample for you to assemble your squad of 22. Battling with someone for a player is dangerous so I advise against it. There are enough players of each rating to allow all ten of us to get a squad that fits the framework of the criteria.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DON’T SPEND YOUR MONEY COMPLETELY WITHOUT GETTING TO 22 PLAYERS.

This would really be cheating if your chairman ends up bringing someone else in from extra funds he makes available if your team isn’t full before the first game.

    PRIZES

12,000 SM Credits go to the winner of this first ever Elimination Gauntlet!

1,000 SM Credits go to the runner-up.

500 SM Credits go to every eliminated participants that resigns at THE CORRECT time to resign – AFTER matchday 18 has been updated and shows on SM on the league table.

    CONCLUSION

I think this one will be much fun. I only ask for committed managers that not only are willing to make a commitment, but also willing to accept defeat in their turn to be eliminated. All eliminated managers must remain at their club until the final league table is published on SM (it shows 18 games played) only then will the elimination be official. As said before, if anyone leaves their post before that, then the lowest finishing manager at the time of the 18th games will be asked to leave.

So be a man and take your elimination with honour! It’s only a game, plus it’s not like you will be the only eliminated person in this GW, 90% of us will. There will only be one winner!

Well after this weekend's result saw yet another victory for Yokohama this time courtesy of a 3-2 success at Pachuca, Yokohama have gone ahead and secured the League one title, to add to the domestic cup and also in the final of the SMFA Shield, hell I am even gunna win the treble probably
That's where the good news end
Another win with a clean sheet means Gorbash is uncatchable both in terms of this season's fantasy points table but also in the overall table and I have no option but to concede defeat. Can't be to upset the run I have been on was amazing but Gorbash and especially his defence has been to consistent, so congratulations on your season and overall success.
Gutted to see this set up go and my dear beloved Yokohama, one game to go it has been a blast.

The Netherlands are the World Champions! As they should be
Perhaps the best thing to see is that its really been a tough league with lots of great managers, considering the first four teams finished within 2 points of eachother.
Great to have been a part of this GW, though it might not have been the most conventional nor active one its been a lot of fun and its good to see enough managers stuck with it till the end to make the final competition a strong one!
And last but not least, many thanks to Gorbash for coming up with this idea and making it happen
Cheers lads! Hope to see you all around in other GW's if we're not in one together already

    11: Club Leon - Ashtini: 116 points
    12: Belgrano - Gozzy: -32 points

Here are the overall standings after the end of season 2, and it is game on for the top 4 who will be fighting tooth and nail to be crowned FFL Manager. I knew things were close between Brood and Gorbash but Noisy and Ray have really pushed themselves into contention.
Really looking forward to season 3, not for myself as I am not in contention but for the battle ahead between these four. Good luck for next season lads and don't forget you are allowed to do transfers. If you think your rivals will do any swap deals now then you are an idiot.

    Good showing
The GW itself does not even exist anymore!
The original plan was to have four qualifiers from each Sector competing in the Final. This made a Division of twenty Nations in a one-season Finals GW where the winner takes all.
As we only have eleven Nations that have actually seen it through, regardless of their Sector, I am overruling the rules and putting all eleven of you through to the World ICON Finals Division!
Your commitment to actually see the challenge through is to be rewarded with the chance to compete for the overall winner. Thank you and well done to the eleven of you.
Obviously there is little point in running a twenty team Finals as first planned. With eleven Nations being confirmed I will add one more to bring it to a round 12 and we will have a 12-team one-season Finals GW where we can all have a crack at winning it.
I will be in the process of deciding rules for it. The ratings cap may be lifted to above 80, though with Saudi Arabia and Indonesia's inclusion in the Final 12 I doubt it will get much higher if any. I still want ALL finalists to have a level crack at being able to win this.
The twelfth team will be - Portugal.
A couple of reasons for this.

Gusma (Gaspar Senka) was the first qualifier from the Southern European Sector with Portugal. He had to step down as manager at the end of August 2013 due to a mandatory military draft they do in Estonia where he is from. I see this as probably the best reason that anyone who left actually did leave and he really had no choice whatsoever.
We have to have a least one team from the Southern European sector, to have a true 'World' showing in the 'World ICON' Finals.

Portugal however will remain managerless for this GW and are only included in tribute to the job Gusma did in getting them there.
I (or someone I choose) will go in only to populate the Portuguese team within the rules and depart before Turn 1.
World ICON will be created and played out in the next few weeks while I put it all together.
If anyone has any questions or comments, leave them here OR PM me and I will get back to you in due course.
Thank you to you all and good luck for the World ICON Finals.

    Re: FOTY13 Group 1
I think this whingeing over so called 'custom votes' is a bit of a pathetic issue and a mute point by people that don't agree with who they wouldn't vote for receiving votes.
You notice it only comes from people that don't take part in Customs.
I think the argument that some forumers only get many votes because of the so called 'Custom Vote' holds about as much clout as a Custom forum poster having a whinge that some of the forumers they don't recognise only get votes from the 'club specific thread' forumers, or the 'talent scout' forumers, or the 'help thread' forumers.
jkerrs for one contributes massively to many different areas as far as I can see. I'll for the sake of this compare this to myself, who doesn't. I read many different areas, but very rarely have posted anywhere outside of the Custom Game World's Section. I didn't even get a nomination for qualifying which is fine with me. Had I wanted a nomination I would have posted more often and posted all over. There are many different places on the forum and if the Custom area generates the most loyal appreciation then surely that only proves that actually it is indeed one of the most important parts of the forum? I actually believe Custom game world creators do a fair bit for generating interest in the forum. Without those unique concepts and banter that comes in a thread attached to a Custom Game World, the forum would lose threads that had been created specifically for those Game Worlds, check the figures, the amount of posts and views for some of those threads is as high and regularly visited, at least in the same ballpark with any other thread elsewhere.
This competition (Forumer of the Year) just happens to bring all forumers from across the board in the multitude of different subjects and interests a thread exists for together in one place for a few weeks of the year. The good thing about that is that it gives people the chance to advertise what brings them here and potentially generate more interest in that section of our community. There isn't one section better or more important than another as they all contribute to interest and buzz from real people out there that take time out of their day to read and post.
So finally in summary, I would say that anyone having a whinge about any of this nonsense, really ought to get a life. It is only a Soccer Manager forum poll and shouldn't affect anyone's real life mood or make them bitter enough to come up with a reason why 'their guy' is or isn't doing well. Each vote is worth as much as another. Seriously, lighten up!

Does it matter where you get your votes from?
Some people exclusively got voted for based on their rating predictions threads yet no one mentioned it.
Jkerrs got my vote for a combination of reasons, he's a great guy who actually makes the effort to have a chat with most forumers every once in a while. He contributes to help with deals and other help related threads as well as helping set up and run custom forum GW's which IMO are a huge help to keeping the forum alive.
Let's face it most of us here came to the forums looking for more ways to interact with SM. Ways to make the game more fun and challenging and custom set ups offer us that so I'd strongly disagree that they don't contribute to the forum as without them I know I wouldn't bother with SM let alone the forum.
I think unfortunately what has happened is a tiny bit of jealousy has creeped into this process and so people are making slight comments that are of little to no relevance.
The fact is that the best forumer as voted by forumers will eventually win. At the end of the day if it is mainly 'custom' people who are voting then it suggests perhaps that custom gw's are the main draw of the forum...
    More importantly though who cares
P.S. Ray this isn't an attack on you as had Jkerrs been in a different group you would have got my vote for this one!

I found a few bugs. I will fix them and get a new edition out to those that want it shortly.
Please try to check it out yourselves too, want to get these done and dusted today if possible.
Note: if it works on one 'match score card', it will work on all of them. This is as once the format was finished the rest of them are just cut and pasted.
EDIT: Clean sheets needs to be fixed -
The top striker is getting clean sheet bonus of +1. Damn. The second striker +4!! The rest of them are right though.
    Second Midfielder is getting +4.
Second Defender from the bottom is getting only a +1.
    EDIT TWO: Goals
Second DF up only scores 4 instead of 5.
    Second M D down scores 5 instead of 4.
It seems those two places got switched somehow.
Top two strikers are getting 4 and 5 respectively instead of 3, oops.
EDIT THREE: Concede 3 or more
Only the top striker is correct. The rest of the strikers are being docked 3 points for this. They shouldn't be.
I must have rushed the testing stage somewhat.
Version 1.1 will be done today and all the muck above will be fixed, sorry guys.

I've made an Excel spreadsheet 'Score Card' to automatically do all the counting for us in this league.
All you need to do is put the 11-14 players that play in a game in and their relevant details of their performance in each game. There are separate spaces for each position so players can freely be used in one position in one game (say, defender) then another position in the next (defensive midfielder?). This means you can use your players wherever they can play in-game and not worry about scores getting mixed up.
Each position on the field is colour coded (green cells = GK, blue = DF, etc) for ease of understanding and avoiding entering a player in the wrong positional field. Whichever position you put the player in the scores will be generated automatically.
There are comments on each column to explain how to fill out each field.
The front page of the sheet displays a teams score for each turn and the total and their ranking.
This should save us hours of equation time and also eliminate the large potential of human error.
If anybody wants me to send this to them so they can do their own scoring whether for general interest or verification purposes send me a PM with your email address and I'll get it across to you asap.

If anybody wants me to send this to them so they can do their own scoring whether for general interest or verification purposes send me a PM with your email address and I'll get it across to you asap.

    ICON's COMING HOME
Only 4 teams left in N Europe - but one of them is England, represented by the mighty Leeds United. I reckon the rest of you can pack up and go home as we are definitely going to be the Champions of this seemingly unending tournament.
I think we've agreed internally that our 4 nominees for the playoffs will be our remianing 4 managed sides, but thankfully they are all likely to get there through the points system anyway.
We're all sticking it out to the bitter end - I think the concept sounded great but no-one really appreciated how dull it can be when your transfer activity disappears entirely.
Still, it was worth a try ....maybe a one-season format would have been better
