Marco Benassi is a product of the Inter Primavera Academy, and is a defenive/central midfielder for Inter Milan. In 2011-2012, He played 843 minutes for Primavera and Inter inevitably became champion's of the Next Gen Series. He has previosuly been a member of the Italian Under-18 national team and is currently part of the Under-19 team. In 6 appearances thus far for Italy, He has played 482 minutes and conjured up two assists.
Benassi is a good player who has good field awareness, passing, distribution, and stamina. I've seen him play as either one of the two CM's or as the lone DM in the 3-5-2 formation Inter has been using this year.
In Europa League appearances, He's racked up 2 games and played the full 90. Today, He made his first full Serie A debut against Pescara and played the full 90. While watching him, I could see he was quite composed, and looked to be very comfortable. He also has good awareness to make space for him to recieve a pass from his fellow teammates. Additonally, Benassi had the tactical responsibility to cover for our maruading wingbacks. As a one on one defender He stood his ground , and jockeyed as one of the Pescara wingers tried to fake and get past him. However, Marco held his ground and tackled the winger with good accuracy. Benassi also produced a great run at one point in the game as he looked pretty good running with the ball and penetrating on the Counter Attack. Marco made 8 tackles, 2 interceptions,1 clearance, and blocked off one shot. Offensively, He produced 3 shots, and passing-wise, he had a 87.7% passing completion percentage, made 65 passes, and delivered 5 longball's.
I feel he has got a bright future with Inter. The likes of Cambiasso are getting older and He should be getting more and more chances. Keep in mind, He's only 18 so there is still plenty of room for him to grow. I present to you, Marco Benassi.
