Everton looked to hold Spartak Moskva in Moscow last night and it was clearly evident from the start that the English outfit was up for the fight with some good possession and the creation of some decent chances in the early exchanges. However, Everton were dealt a massive blow, after new recruit, and debutant, Marco Motta, was sent off, somewhat harshly, by german referee Helmut Fleischer in only the fourth minute. This put Everton on the back foot but they managed to get a goal in the 20th minute when defender Nenad Djordjevic coolly slotted home a brilliant passing attack from the Toffees. 11 minutes later it was to be the home sides celebrations as star striker Soares Welliton struck a sweet volley past an anchored Tim Howard to draw level. This didnt put Everton off though as Japanese midfielder Yasuhito Endo put the travellers back in front to silence the crowd with just 1 minute left of the first half. As the players came out for the second half, it was difficult to tell who would be looking to win this, as Everton had two precious away goals, but they were tiring after Mottas early sending off. And it was Everton who came out the sharper of the two sides, and it was no surprise when they managed to get a third through Emad Moteab just after the Hour mark. The Toffees were inevitably beginning to tire now and manager Razz was forced to make change, brining talented young midfielder Dan Gosling, on for the influential Yasuhito Endo, but this was after Spartaks 2nd, coming from Jiranek. Everton were able to hang on for a very well and hard fought victory and with 3 away goals, it seems the ascendancy is with them, but I wouldnt say this tie is over yet.
