Arsenal fans celebrate 7 Trophies in 2 seasons

As season 15 comes to an end in GC53, Arsenal have managed to wrap up their most successful season finishing with 4 trophies on top of last seasons 3.

    Last season

    Arsenal managed to win:

    SMFA Shield

    English Cup

    English Charity Shield

    Were runners up in:

    English Shield

    English Division 1

    This season

    Arsenal managed to win:

    SMFA Champions Cup

    SMFA Super Cup

    English Cup

    English Shield

    Were runners up in:

    English Division 1

    English Charity Shield

Arsenal had a poor start to the season which saw them lose 4-1 on penalties to Everton in the English Charity Shield Final at Wembley at a 1-1 draw after extra time.

However Arsenal had an immediate opportunity for revenge over their English rivals as they met again days later, this time in Monaco at Louis II for the SMFA Super Cup Final. Again the game was too even to call and after a goaless 0-0 draw the game went to penalties again, but this time Arsenal took the advantage and won 4-3.

Arsenal continued to dominate abroad after climbing out of their SMFA Champions Cup group of River Plate, Chievo Verona and Hannover 96. They then went on to knock out Brazilian side Atlético Paranaense, Real Madrid and Juventus before meeting Scottish powerhouse Rangers in the final in Italy at the Stadio San Paolo. Goals from Isco, Nasri (2) and Van Persie (2) gave Arsenal a 5-1 commanding win.

As holders Arsenal went into the English Cup strong, beating Torquay United, Norwich City, Everton, Aston Villa and Manchester United before meeting London rivals Fulham in the Final. 3 goals from Van Persie and a penalty from Tevez gave Arsenal a 4-2 victory and enabled them to hold onot the English Cup for the 3rd season in a row.

After coming runners up in last seasons English Shield Arsenal wanted to go one further this season and reached the final by beating Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Shorpe United, Swansea City and Derby County. In the final Arsenal came up against Newcastle United but 2 goals from Van Persie gave Arsenal a 2-0 victory.

Arsenal couldnt manage to catch English Division 1 winners Newcastle United who finished 11 points above the gunners.

    Arsenal Player of the season:

Ivory Coast forward Seydou Doumbia finally got his chance to show what he can do when given playing time for the gunners, with Tevez and Van Persie busy in other competitions meant Doumbia could step up in the league which he did and managed to finish as the leagues top scorer with 20 goals in 24 games, also providing 8 assists and 4 man of the match performances.

Arsenal managed 2 exciting signings at the end of the season with 22 year old Spanish attacking midfielder Isco joining from FC Porto for 20 million and proven striker Sergio Aguero moving across London from Chelsea in a deal which saw Cesc Fabregas move the other way. 2 other big departures were Song and Sagna.

    Newcastle United News

After a poor start to the season which saw Newcastle bottom of the league after 3 games brought in a change of management who led the Magpies to a 9th place finish in the league, the English Shield quarter final, and 4th round of the English Cup. However the team failed to get out of their SMFA Cup group, coming bottom under 3 teams they really should have dealt with!

The Newcastle manager is said to be pleased with his teams performance throughout the season and hopes now to have the foundations to build on and push in all competitions next season.

'The team has taken a while to gel together and regain confidence which cost us in the early stages of the season' said the manager. 'A number of players left us at the begining of my management including the likes of promising midfielder Christian Erikson who moved to Manchester city on a deal including Dzeko heading to Newcastle, however we have also added a number of promising players such as Leighton Baines, Kolo Toure, Mame Diouf and Sebastian Rode to name a few'.

    Player of the season:

    Demba Ba

The Newcastle forward managed to score 13 goals in 24 games for the Magpies last season also providing 4 assists and be awarded 5 man of the match performances.

Forwards Papiss Cisse and new boy Edin Dzeko also managed 11 goals each and provided attacking options for the manager.

Newcastle's midfield was their strong point with the likes of Cabaye, Douglas Costa, Lacazette, Teixeira, De Jong and Rakitic all performing well and giving the manager selection headaches.

An area that saw improvement over the season was the defence with the likes of Leighton Baines, Kolo Toure and Vurnon Anita coming in.

    What next?

The newcatle manager is likely to be fairly quiet in the transfer window, concentrating on the players he already has but theres a chance of a bit of movement in and out of the squad.

Aiming for higher than 9th next season and challenging to go further in the cup/shield.

Modena - New Boys in Italian Division 1

After completing a 1 season contract in Spain with Atlectico Madrid which saw them finish 5th in the league, AJ Manager returned to his previous Italian Division 2 club Modena who had booked themselves a place in the play offs.

For the returning manager in was 3rd time lucky having failing in the playoffs in 2 previous seasons, Modena managed a 4-1 win against Spezia in the semi final before beating Chievo Verona tonight 3-1 to book a place in next seasons Italian footballs top flight, joining Division 2 champions Novara and Torino.

The manager now looks to build a relegation beating squad!

  15. Re: Gold Championship 300

QPR managed a 12th place finish in the league in their first season under their new manager, a higher position then everyone had thought! The early season saw a lot of changes at Loftus Road with players like Barton, Samba, Zamora, Park, Bosingwa and Ferdinand all leaving the club with little faith for any success in west London.

The new QPR boss managed to bring in some big names in the transfer market:

    In defence:

Ashley Williams joined as new club captain for 10 million from Swansea, German defender Robert Huth joined from Stoke for 7.3 million, left back Henry Bedimo joined from French side Montpellier for 7 million, and Curtis Davies joined from Birmingham for 6.1 million.

    In midfield:

Promising Brazilian 21 year old defensive midfielder Lucas Fernando joined from Gremio for 11 million and Spanish winger Manuel Nolito joined from Benfica for 13 million.

    In attack:

3 Senegal forwards joined the club in the form of Dame N'Doye for 4.4 million from Lokomotiv moskva, ex Manchester United forward Mame Diouf joined from Hanover for 7.8 million and Paptiss Cisse joined for club transfer record of 16.5 million from Newcatle after a lot of confussion in the deal with it first being reversed by the SMFA under previous management.

    Stand out Players:

Stand out players of the season were:

    Loic Remy

The French attacker stayed with QPR after persuasion from the the new manager and netted 14 times in 31 games, also creating 6 assists and being awarded 3 man of the match performances.

    Manuel Nolito

the Spanish winger tore up defences and with his creative passes assisted 6 goals and manged to find the net 5 times himself in 25 appearances

    Paptiss Cisse

After finally joining QPR the forward score 4 and assisted 3 in 9 games...high hopes for a full season with the club.

Goalkeeper Julio Cesar, defenders Ashley Williams, Bedimo, M'bia, Huth, Midfielders Fernando, Granero, Taarabt and forward Dame N'Doye all deserve praise for QPRs Premier League survival with outstanding performances.

With a very limited transfer budget at the close of season it looks like QPR will need to sell to buy before the new season.

Loic Remy Sticks with QPR and is named their player of the season scoring 14 and assisting 6 in 31 games!

3rd Time not Lucky for Reading!

SMFA Shield winners of the last 2 seasons, Reading crashed out of the competition in the quarter finals last night after a 5-4 aggregate loss to Lyon. Reading were once again showing good form in Europe knocking out French side AS Saint-Etiene, Turkish side Besiktas and Greek side Olympiacos to reach the quarter finals, however French giants Lyon proved too much for the Berkshire club.

After a 2-2 draw at the Madejski, Reading got an early advantage in Lyon when they were awarded a penalty in the 3rd minute which Ivory Coast forward Lacina Traore put into the back of the net. It only took the French team 2 minutes to respond with a Jaroslav Plasil goal and a minute later a Mohamed Fofana goal. The wind was well and truely out of Reading's sails and they conceded again in the 29th minute to a Claudio Pizzaro goal. Nikica Jelavic managed to get one back for the Royals in the 74th minute openning the opportunity of an away goals win with just 1 more goal! But Reading failed to find the net!

Final Score Lyon 3 - 2 Reading (5-4 on aggregate)

    What next?

After finishing a dissapointing 13th in the league last season, Reading currently sit 7th and play away to 8th place Everton today before a home game against Forest Green Rovers in the 3rd round of the English Cup on monday night.

    New Boss at Newcastle

After 3 league defeats and 1 champions cup defeat already this season something had to change at Newcastle and that change has come in the form of a new manager, who joins Newcastle from the manager position at Reading who he finished 9th in the league with last season.

The manager is said to be sad to leave Reading but feels a new challenge with a great club like Newcastle is too hard to turn down.

Newcastle currently sit in the relegation zone in the league and 2nd from bottom in a SMFA Cup group which they are favorites to win.

With some decent talent in the team the new manager hopes to improve his teams poor start to the season and possibly add one or two new players to the squad.

The new boss's first test will be on monday night in the 2nd round of the English Shield against Millwall before travelling away to Manchester United in the league.

Things heating up in the top 4

With only 5 games left in the season and only 1 point seperating the top 3 teams in the English top flight things really heated up yesterday when Arsenal travelled to Old Trafford to take on fierce rivals Manchester United.

The game turned out to be one of the games of the season with both teams and managers giving it their all to continue the dream of that number 1 spot in the league.

    Manchester United 6 - 8 Arsenal

Both teams started the game at full speed and it took just 2 minutes for Manchester United to go 1-0 up through a CABAYE free kick. Arsenal responded instantly and on the stroke of 4 minutes made it 1-1 through a CESC FABREGAS free kick. The game stayed equal until Arsenal's Brazilian defender DEDE gave away a penalty after a badly timed challenge 27 minutes in which Aleksandr KERZHAKOV smashed into the top corner for United giving them the advantage again. 4 minutes later and a panicing Arsenal defence gave away another free kick in a dangerous postion which CABAYE put into the back on the net again putting united 3-1 up. What Next?

As well as winning the English Cup Arsenal managed a 4th place finish in the league which was one better than last season and guarantees SMFA Cup football next season. With poor performances in the English Shield (knocked out by Portsmouth in round 2) and the SMFA Shield (knocked out by Marseille in round 2) the Arsenal boss hopes to be able to compete in all competitions and the league.

With additions to the squad this season such as:

    TOURÉ, Yayá

    DAMIÃO, Leandro

    COSTA, Douglas

    SESSÈGNON, Stéphane

    SUÁREZ, Mario

to name a view Arsenal wont be looking to be too active in the transfer window unless a big deal becomes available.

1st HalfThe game started off nervously for both teams, both trying to probe for a weakness in their opponents denfensive line. It wasnt until the 34th minute that the game saw its real first chance on goal when Arsenal right back João PEREIRA played a long ball to HIGUAÍN only for his shot to go inches wide. United player Dmitri KOMBAROV expressed his frustration with a late challenge on BENZEMA, resulting in a yellow card and a free kick to the gunners which was whiped in by HIGUAÍN only for MERTESACKER to head over.

In the 40th minute United caught Arsenal out with a quick counter attack, Raúl ALBIOL Knocked a ball into GYAN who cleverly headed it over the defence and placed the ball into the bottom corner putting United 1-0 up at half time.

    2nd Half

The 2nd half started as the first had ended with United on the attack. VELOSO, DIAMANTI and GYAN all coming close for the Manchester club. With half an hour to go both managers decided to make changes to their teams; Arsenal WALCOTT and PODOLSKI came on for PEREIRA and SONG, and United legend SCHOLES came on for FERNANDINHO.

Arsenal looked more attacking and with fresh legs on started causing United problems. On the 70th minute mark MATA made a cheeky run through Uniteds midfield and layed the ball to BENZEMA only for the French striker to put Arsenal level on 1-1. 8 minutes later Arsenal took the lead through a wonder strike from substitute PODOLSKI. Though United rsponded within a minute when KOMBAROV chipped the ball over the Arsenal keeper who wasnt on his line making it 2-2. Both teams fought hard but neither could land the winning blow with the game ending 2-2 after extra time.

The 2nd leg was a different affair with Reading losing to the Brazilians 4-2 but 2 more goals from Aduriz was enough to ensure Reading won 5-4 on aggregate.

    Round 2 Reading 5 - 1 Napoli (after 2 legs)

Round 2 saw Reading drawn against Italian side Napoli. Reading continued the all guns blazing approach and won the 1st leg at home 2-0 thanks to goals from Derdiyok and Hernanes. Reading went on to dominate in Italy and won 3-1 thanks to goals from Derdiyok, Gervinho and Maicon.

With Reading reaching the quater finals relatively unchallenged posed a threat for Reading in the form of being over confident. After 24 minutes of what can only be called a siege, Reading broke and a great through ball from Columbian Fredy Guarin met Reading forward Asamoah Gyan who placed the ball into the back of the net putting the Royals 1-0 up to everyones supprise.
