  1. Re: Riferimento: English Premiership Rating Predictions My thoughts.
  2. Re: Official Liverpool Thread I don't know why Can is compared to Lallana. He isn't an alternative for him in any way and I don't think Shaqiri is either (even if some papers claim so). Why are you making such a huge point about the England NT? Lallana has played 3 games for England' date=' I certainly have formed my opinion of him by watching him at Southampton, playing against high quality opposition. Shaqiri probably has all the potential to become a better player than Lallana. But maybe we're looking for someone with leadership qualities, too. Or someone with better defensive qualities or experience in the league? Rodgers has identified Lallana as his number 1 target for whatever reasons and the fee will be what it will be. That shouldn't be the first thing that fans concern themselves with. We have a group of people working on transfers and they've established that we can spend that on Lallana and afford our other targets as well. It makes a lot of sense.
  3. Re: Official Liverpool Thread The point about his name is that if he was a foreign' date=' more exotic player, people would be much more excited about him. I mentioned Gaston Ramirez & Van Wolfswinkel as players that people have been excited about and it's mainly because they're not 'boring' Englishmen. Look how they've turned out. No transfer is ever certain to be a success but I can't think of many players who would fit into our system as seamlessly as Lallana (this is taking into consideration that the likes of Shaqiri don't have experience of this league) so this is a very small risk for us. We'll pay a lot of money but we're almost guaranteed to get a good player. And not every signing we make has to be a kid with potential, we apparently have the money to buy a £25M player so why not?

  5. Re: Official Liverpool Thread Interesting that Balague also said that Sevilla expect to sell him before WC starts. Seems like a pretty realistic transfer at the moment unless Real Madrid make a move for him.
  6. Re: Official Liverpool Thread How about that, seems that the fee for Lambert is around £4M. Maybe we shouldn't always believe the papers when they come up with crazy numbers. Pros & Cons with Lambert: Pros: - Decent goal-scorer - only 2 players have created more clear cut chances or have more assists from open play than Lambert over the last 2 seasons. - Set piece specialist - Scouser & a Liverpool fan -> won't moan about game time - Better than our current 3rd & 4th best strikers - Different in style to our 1st & 2nd choice strikers - Experience from playing in a pressing team - Small fee & wages - homegrown Cons: - 32 - no experience from CL games - can only play centrally
  7. Re: Official Liverpool Thread People really need to stop looking at the fees so much. I just don't understand how some of you can get so worked up over the fees when the players we're (supposedly) buying are good. And if you don't think Lambert would improve us then you've not seen enough of him. Just a gentle reminder that people have been excited about signing the likes of Gaston Ramirez and Ricky van Wolfswinkel because they're exotic, have cool names or whatever. Lallana and Lambert may be too ordinary for some of you but both of them are very good and would improve us. And if you're dead set on looking at the finances, consider this: over a 3 year period Lallana & Lambert would cost us about 12-14M pounds less in wages than Rakitic & Remy for example. EDIT: James Pearce ‏@JamesPearceEcho 1m Rickie Lambert to #LFC is on. Told the initial fee will be around £4m plus add-ons. Story on Echo site shortly. Excellent.
  8. Re: Official Liverpool Thread Considering Enrique's injury' date=' we can't rely too much on him. And I think Rodgers would like someone better than him in the starting lineup anyway. I don't know if we're looking to move him on (I hope not) but ideally he'd be on the bench imo. Problem is that a world class CB is the hardest to find. Look at the price rumoured for Benatia and what PSG actually paid for Luiz. I do agree, though, that that's were we have the biggest problems.
  9. Re: Official Liverpool Thread I will LOVE it (Keegan style) if we sign Rickie Lambert. A very good option to have in the squad and we do need a new striker.
  10. Re: Official Liverpool Thread Wait and see. Not only if we're going to buy those players but also how good they're going to be for us. It's a lot better to overpay for a good player than pay the right amount for a bad one. And looking at how Aspas, Alberto, Borini & Assaidi have fared for us, I won't be one to complain if we spend £35-40M + Suso on loan for Lallana & Moreno.
  11. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions Livermore I agree with but not Naughton. Naughton doesn't have a future at Spurs as a starter and if he does move to a weaker club like Aston Villa or West Ham he would have to perform very well to keep that 88. So I think SM will be cautious with his rating and keep it at 87 but you can never be too sure about these.
  12. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions Definitely no higher than 87.
  13. Re: Official Liverpool Thread A lot of people have been worried that we'll automatically get an impossible group because we're in pot 3 but there's plenty of teams I wouldn't mind from pots 1 and 2. But then again I wouldn't really mind getting the best of the best just to see us play in those big games again.
  14. Re: Official Liverpool Thread Echo says we're interested in Can but talks of a deal are premature.
  15. Re: Official Liverpool Thread It's been reported that part of the reason why Leverkusen would sell to us is so that Bayern can't activate the buy-back clause which is a smaller amount than what we're offering. Also, Raphael Honigstein says that Can's agent has a good relationship with Rodgers. Let's hope we can get the deal done.
  16. Re: English Premiership Rating Predictions Not sure what SM will do with his rating because he got a long-term injury but his season before the injury certainly warranted a +1 and showed potential of further rises in the future.

  18. Re: Official Liverpool Thread I don't think so at all. Mignolet is far from perfect but I'll take a good shot-stopper over a good passer any day of the week when we're talking about goalkeepers. And I don't think Reina and Rodgers are in such good terms with all the comments from both parties after last Summer.
