Charlton Athletic - Season 12 Review:
Predicted finish: Relegation
Final position: 8th (Qualified for Europa League)
Fan's Player of the Season: Alvaro Negredo
Fan favourite Negredo once more wins the prize after scoring a handful of goals despite injury woes in the second half of the season.
Player's Player of the Season: Etxebarria Benat
Despite only signing for the club midway through the season, Benat became a joy to play alongside as he bagged himself 11 assists from 17 appearances.
Manager's Player of the Season: Davide Astori
With one of the toughest defences in the Division, conceding only 52 goals, I had to give my award to one of the back four. Astori was consistent and difficult to play against all season.
Chairman's goal for next season: Avoid relegation
Manager's hopes for next season: Have a good run in either the Shield, Cup, or Europa League whilst maintaining our Division 1 status for another season - this season's league finish will be difficult to equal again.

Charlton Athletic score 6 to seal biggest win in Adriano era
Charlton 6 - 1 Liverpool
Pizarro: 5'
Nani: 14'
Gouffran: 33', 62'
Mavuba: 63'
Samedov: 80'
The win raises a few questions really as Dan points out, we were playing the best keeper in the world Neuer with a very good defence in front of him as well.
The answer lies in one name: Benat. We've always had a well performing defence (only three teams have conceded less this season) yet we've lacked a midfielder who can create play. The evidence of Benat's impact today is that every attacker and midfielder around him scored and he claimed three of the six assists. The evidence of his impact since signing for us is that in 14 appearances for the club he has already put himself in the league's top 25 player assists table. He has been so good that the fact we've lost our highest rated player and permanent top goalscorer Negredo has been unnoticeable as his replacement Gouffran has been able to score 4 in his absence. During this absence we've been able to get three huge wins: 6 - 1, 4 - 1, and 3 - 0. It's odd given the gulf in class we often face such as in today's game but spirits are high right now and we're desperate to hold on to a top 10 finish after fighting off relegation earlier in the season.
Unlucky Dan, you obviously didn't deserve to lose like that but that's just the way football is at times. You look to have fought off any relegation threat though.

Why Charlton Athletic vs Manchester United could be one of the games of the season
It isn't exactly the most exciting fixture on the calendar but this encounter in Division 1 may provide quite a spectacle. It sees Manchester United, who top the league, travel to Charlton Athletic, who sit top of the form table after winning the last 6 games and going unbeaten in 10.
The points have been spread evenly across the sides' most recent encounters; with 2 wins for Manchester United, 2 wins for Charlton Athletic and 2 draws.
Manchester United have the Division's highest scorer, Diego Costa, in their ranks who has netted an impressive 17 goals already this season. For the visitors, Alvaro Negredo, will also look to increase his impressive goal return of 8.
There is a large gulf in the resources between the two sides but ignoring that and considering only the way they are playing -- this could indeed be one of the games of the season.
Then again, its also quite likely that Charlton will get thrashed.

It is now 9 games unbeaten and 5 straight wins as we climb into the top half of the table.
Despite the absence of key front-men Negredo and Pizarro, we are getting goals and points - this time courtesy of a late strike from Diafra Sakho, a crowd-pleaser having come through the ranks to become a super-sub of late. Maxi Moralez has also been incredible support since joining the club; managing 2 assists, 1 goal, 1 MOTM, and an average rating of 8.33 inside his first three appearances for the club.
Next up: Milton Keynes Dons (A)

Everton: Sneaked our way up the table and have finished inside the top 4 securing Champions League football for next season. Took over the side when they were mid-table so this was the most I could have hoped to achieve in only half a season so very pleased.

Div1
Div2
Div3
Div4
Div5
The player of the round goes to Newcastle striker Edison Cavani!!!!
Quite simply a magnificent performance from Newcastle on Wednesday, thrashing a fully fit and very strong West Ham side 9-1 at Upton Park. Cavani, along with Kroos were key to victory with Cavani scoring a hat-trick before half-time. He got one assist before the break, and set up another two goals for Toni Kroos in the second half. Cavani now has 13 goals this season, and his record in the second division is amazing. 136 goals in 226 starts, and his goals will be vital if Newcastle are to get back into Division 1.

3 points from the relegation zone with our matches remaining against 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the table. Walsall and Arsenal must be licking their lips. The first time we slip into the relegation zone this season might well be the worst possible time.

Birmingham good form continues
Damiao has been immense since joining scoring 9 goals in 8 games.
Birmingham snatched their 14th win in the last 17 games to push us up to 2nd place jus 3 points behind div leaders West Ham.
Finally all my hard work at Birmingham seems to be paying off, just hope we can keep this going till the end and get promotion with only 5 games left to play.

Powerfull win over 2nd placed Notts! A strong statement that we're here to win Division 3 this season! We dominated possession largely and we were pretty efficient in front of goal, taking all our chances. Delighted with Cerci's performance, he's doing really great, 2nd best scorer in the division.
We're back on top, 3 points ahead of 2nd placed Notts now, and 6 points ahead 3rd placed Barnet. Happy

This moves us up to 2nd in the table. Very happy with that, especially since two of our most important players: Luuk De Jong and Saviola were injured along with a few others being rested for Monday's Shield match. We also had to play an hour of this game with 10 men as we lost another key player: Olic.
The day after our League Cup encounter with Northampton, we also play Genoa in the all important final game of the Europa League group stage - we currently top a group in which any of the 4 teams can still go through from.
Another close encounter between our sides, you were quite unlucky to go away with no points. This was just one of Cassio's 'unstoppable' games.

Cheltenham have now won 6 league games on the spin without conceding a single goal
1 - 0 Chesterfield
1 - 0 Bury
6 - 0 Bradford City
3 - 0 Rushden & Diamonds
3 - 0 Kettering Town
4 - 0 York City
During same run we've had 2 cup wins so 8 competitive wins in a row in all competitions. The run has lifted us to 2nd in Div 4 but it's still very early days.

Division 5 Luton Town secure a shock place in the Quarter Finals of the English Shield after beating Division 2 Nottingham Forest on penalties.
The bad news is that injury worries are mounting up with Adeleke (out for the season), Gargano (out for 6 weeks), Mesto (out for 2 weeks), Kayar (out for a few days).
In the league, we continue to perform well, sitting at the top of the table and four points clear. Although, there are a few teams hunting us down and we're not even halfway through the season yet.

Carlisle United Win The Charity Shield!
Another trip to Wembley saw a replay of the English Shield final of last season as we faced the Game World Champions Tottenham Hotspur.
And to the surprise of just about everyone in the stadium, myself included, we thrashed our superior opposition 4-0 to win the first silverware of the season.
2 goals from Stijn Schaars, 1 from Javier Saviola and a long range strike from Polanski saw us cruise past Spurs and make a positive start to the new campaign.
The only negative is that Luuk De Jong is now injured for two weeks, which is a little frustrating as he hasn't had much of a chance to settle into the side having been signed so late on last season.

Carlisle United: Season Review and Awards
The trophy cabinet is looking quite spectacular now, with the Play-Off Final and English Shield medals sitting alongside the famous English Cup.
The team are all gathered around to find out who has won which award. Safe to say they are all knackered, having played 3 games per week non-stop. They'll all be jetting off for their much deserved holidays soon before arriving back to do it all over again, and the fixture list won't be much easier next season with the addition of a Europa League cameo.
There is a sense of disappointment in the air, however, after finishing 6th in the league and gatecrashing the play-offs, we were beaten in the semi-finals by QPR. However, with the objective for this season being to avoid an instant relegation back down to Division 4, we can't complain with the success we have had.
The important thing is to keep the spirit and good performances running into next season. We should't be expecting a repeat of our Cup triumph or shock League successes, but we must not lose touch and struggle.
Now, on to the awards...
Top Scorer in the League: Vincent Aboubakar and Sadio Mane
Aboubakar scored 8 league goals this season from 17 starts and 9 substitute appearances, Mane also scored 8 from 24 starts and 3 substitute appearances. These two young attackers have once again shone and narrowly beat much competition for the club's Golden Boot. There has been no big goalscorer as the team has been rotated all season, hence the heavy competition. Stijn Schaars is also worth a shout in this category as he scored the most goals across all 3 tournaments.
Most assists in the League: Sadio Mane
The fact that Sadio has won both of these categories very much compliments his ability not only for the future but now. Amidst the Cup and Shield successes, he has been consistent in the League as well as becoming a cult hero by scoring to book our place in one of the finals. Even across all three tournaments, he still had the most assists.
Player of the Season: Stijn Schaars
The captain is often a popular winner in this category but Stijn has earned this crown, gaining respect from players, fans and manager alike. He has pulled the strings since Huszti's departure across three tournaments and was the man who famously lifted the English Cup for us. A Carlisle United legend after only one season.
Young Player of the Season: Sadio Mane
It was hard to give this to anyone but Sadio Mane, who turned 22 shortly before the season began, but we'll let him off! He has been brilliant this season and hopefully next season we may see him improve furthermore as a senior.
The whole team should receive recognition though, there hasn't been an under performer wearing the shirt this season. Kudos to all.
With a nod to next season...
Senior Player to Watch Next Season: Luuk De Jong
Signed just before the end of the season as an unorthodox replacement for N'Zonzi, Luuk has looked world class in his 4 appearances - aiding us in gatecrashing the play-offs. He has already formed an interesting partnership with Saviola. Next season, his quality will help us face the prospect of competing in Europe.
Young Player to Watch Next Season: Vladyslav Kalitvintsev
You won't find may 82 rated players who have contributed quite what Kalitvintsev did in his 7 starts and 5 substitute appearances. With 3 goals, 1 assist, and a perfect 10 performance under his belt already - he looks ready to take on the World. He also received a useful +1 in rating last week.
