  1. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Forest 4-3 AlbionSouza (7), Cassano (8), Costa (10), Perotti (13), Fletcher (55), Klose (60), D'Alessandro (71) The City Ground: 18,979 Forest ensure back to back league defeats for Albion Nottingham Forest last night ensured it was back to back defeats for West Bromwich Albion after they overcome The Baggies in a thrilling 4-3 game at The City Ground. The game go underway and the first goal came within the first seven minutes, Brazilian Josef Souza firing past Ochoa in the WBA goal. Just a minute later the game was level, Cassano on target again for Albion to get the game level. Just 2 minutes later new signing Costa was on the scoresheet to put West Brom ahead, 2-1 inside the first 10 minutes, crazy! West Brom's lead lasted just as little as 3 minutes, Argentine Diego Perroti was on hand to level it up for Forest and make that 4 goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. The pace of the game then dropped dramatically, both teams became much stronger at the back and it took until the 55th minute for the next goal, Scottish striker Steven Fletcher firing home from close range after some poor WBA defending. Miroslav Klose then just 5 minutes later equalised for West Bromwich Albion, the German who just cant stop scoring at the moment firing past a helpless Esteban in the Nottingham Forest goal. Then came the deciding goal of the game, D'Alessandro broke clear of the Albion defence, then rounding keeper Ochoa then slotting in to send the home crowd wild, a big blow for West Brom, the game could of gone either way but it went the home sides way in the end. "It was a thrilling game to watch, but as a manager I can see we let in some very silly goals, including the last one which cost us points. I need to sure up the back a bit more, we have been signing midfielders and forwards but I will address this problem promptly as we can score a lot in games but not keep the goals out." Journal said after the defeat to Nottingham Forest late last night. The question is, who will he turn to in order to sure up his defence? Coleman joins West Bromwich Albion It has later this hour been confirmed that Republic of Ireland international Seamus Coleman has joined West Bromwich Albion from division 3 rivals Northampton Town on a four year deal. The defender has joined in order to improve the West Brom defence after they scored 3 goals away to Nottingham Forest last night but leaked in 4 goals to leave The City Ground with no points, a game that left manager Journal very frustrated. Journal was quoted on the Albion website saying the following regarding the arrival of the 25 year old "Seamus is a brilliant addition to our squad and defence, he has been very impressive recently and he will bring great defensive assurance to our squad, something we have been lacked recently. He is a brilliant signing and I am looking forward to working under him, a great bit of business for our club." Miranda makes way in Coleman deal The deal for Seamus Coleman included Joao Miranda. The Brazilian 29 year old has joined Northampton Town after spending 6 seasons at The Baggies, he will be personally missed the club and fans but since the arrival of Journal, like many players, his future was never certain at the club. In the deal will see Nabil Bentaleb join Northampton Town too when the Frenchmen's transfer ban is up in March, Bentaleb who has failed to have any impact since his move recently. "It is a shame we have to say bye to Joao Miranda after he has served our club brilliantly over the years and the club and fans are very appreciative over this." quoted from an interview on the WBA site, Journal later went on to say "I am still possibly on the lookout for another defender, it's hard to say yet if we will be able to get one snapped up anytime soon but I will try my best, all I ask is the fans to be patient and then results will eventually start to come in." Despite signing Seamus Coleman Journal will still look to improve his defence, who could he possibly be going for next? Is Cesar Azpilicueta going to be an even bigger target now for Albion? Will he look outside of England to bring in a defender? The next coming days will tell the story, next up for West Brom is a trip to the KC Stadium to face Hull City in the English Cup tomorrow night, a game in which they will be hoping to get back to winning makes and not making it a straight 4th defeat on the road.
  2. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Firmino is the latest player to arrive at West Brom West Brom have earlier this morning confirmed that Brazilian Roberto Firmino has joined the club from Tranmere Rovers. The 22 year old midfielder has become Journal's most recent signing in the current revamp stage of the football club. West Bromwich's club website this morning confirmed that a deal had been made yesterday and it was only just this morning that all players involved completed their medical. In the other direction head another Brazilian, Alcantara Rafinha who has struggled to seek any first team action under Journal since the take over despite coming on and scoring against Blackpool on Monday night. The other player is Bangoura Lass, another attacking player that has failed to impress under the management of the Englishmen, so both making way for a highly rated Brazilian 22 year old. "We are obviously sad to see two such young players leave our club, but this opened the path for a player of a higher calibre to step in, a very good signing for the football club in my eyes. I and the club wishes the best for both Rafinha and Bangoura in the future at Tranmere Rovers and the club welcomes Firmino to hopefully his first start for the club tomorrow night at Nottingham Forest." The WBA boss was also asked about Cesar Azpilicueta, a player who has been long linked with Albion and rumours of a bid being made, this was his reponse; "Cesar is a brilliant player and I wouldn't say not to the opportunity of signing him. Having said that for a deal to happen a deal would need to be agreed between the two clubs and that could be a long process, we will see what happens, for us though the main focus is tomorrow night and getting back on track with a win at Forest."
  3. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Sahin out - Rose, Rodriguez and De Guzman in! It has been a busy day for West Bromwich Albion, after their 1-0 loss last night to the hands of Brentford at The Hawthorns manager Journal identified that he still needed to improve the squad before they can mount a serious promotion push this season. They have announced that three new faces have joined the Midland club as well as one leaving, who turns out to be a managers and fans favourite, shocking some people with the departure. First up was the massive transfer, their highly rated central midfielder, Nuri Sahin. Sahin had been linked with a move out of WBA at the start of the season, that talk quickly died down, but yesterday Portsmouth launched a bid for the Turkish international that was unrejectable labelled manager Journal. Danny Rose and Jese Rodriguez today joined in swap for the 25 year old, a great servant for the club but as West Brom are looking towards the future build of the club, these two youngsters will help build that. After letting such a key player go in such a vital role, manager Journal had to address this quickly. This is where the transfer of Holland international Jonathan De Guzman comes in to it. He joined from Bournemouth for a massive £15 million pound deal, a player that is worth every penny according to WBA manager Journal. De Guzman, along with Rodriguez and Rose, has joined the Baggies on a 5 year deal. "It is a brilliant day for the club transfer wise, we lost a key player but we replaced him with three very good players that will benefit us highly in our promotion chase." Journal said on a club statement. "I would say business is done there for this season, but in reality we are always on the lookout for new players we can sign and if the chance comes along to sign somebody we will always consider it. We are now focused going into the game on Saturday night with Nottingham Forest, a game which could see Jonathan make his debut for the club."
  4. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread West Brom 0-1 Brentford Cacau (18) The Hawthorns: 19,879 Cacau silences The Hawthorns Albion suffered yet another set back tonight after they were beaten at home to current division 3 strugglers at The Hawthorns. It was German striker Cacau who fired home for Brentford eighteen minutes into the game to ensure that West Bromwich Albion suffered their 4th defeat of the season, making it back to back losses after their shock cup exit on Monday to division 4 side Blackpool. Despite this, Journal still assures fans that the club it still undergoing a transitional period and results will soon become more consistent. "I can understand the fans frustration. We have signed players that have improved our squad, but they will take time to get settled into my style of play." Journal was quoted after speaking to press after tonight's loss to Brentford. "I am still looking to add to the squad, there is room for improvement in places and I will adress this as soon as possible. For now it is important that our fans remain to back the side as always and we regroup for Saturdays game against Nottingham Forest." After the game their was rumours from a reliable source on social networking websites that Journal has already made moves for various players, and possibly some players departing the Baggies too. It is now a waiting game for Albion and their fans, newspapers for tomorrow morning are already stating deals have been agreed, the club are set to issue a statement tomorrow morning they confirmed on their Twitter later tonight.
  5. Re: Help With Deal(s) Thread... Thank you guys, will most likely proceed with the deal now
  6. Re: Help With Deal(s) Thread... Portsmouth have made a new offer to West Bromwich Albion to swap Danny ROSE and Rodríguez JESÉ for Nuri ŞAHIN I know in the short run the deal won't look the best, but as for the long run, this will be a good deal right?
  7. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Costa arrives as Mavuba departs Albion It was confirmed on Thursday that Brazilian Douglas Costa had joined West Bromwich Albion from division 4 outfit Bristol City. The Brazilian has added even more youth to the West Brom squad that Journal is building for the future. Costa will bring a range of things to the West Brom midfield, especially with him being able to operate in both wide and central positions. In the deal, Rio Mavuba joined Bristol City, despite being a regular first teamer since Journal took over at Albion his future was never certain with the club and it was no surprise to him or the WBA fans when he left to make way for the talented Brazilian. Also in the deal Belgian Gillet left, again it came no surprise when the 28 year old was used in the deal and with long term replacement Ravel Morrison recently obtained, it was only a matter of time before he moved on. "We would like to announce the arrival of 23 year old Douglas Costa from Bristol City, we welcome him into the Baggies on a 4 year deal." read the Albion website, with the following statement "Heading the other way to Bristol are 2 players, Rio Mavuba and Guillaume Gillet who we wish the best of luck with their new club and for the future." United 0-2 Albion Klose (21), Cassano (58) Weston Homes Community Stadium: 7,866 Experience proving key for West Brom Saturday night was another good night for Albion, the side cruised to a 2-0 away win to the hands of Colchester United at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. New signing Miroslav Klose got the scoring underway just after the 21 minute mark, the German showing why he was signed by Journal in their promotion push. Shortly before the hour mark Cassano made it 2 and wrapped it up for the Baggies, Klose and Cassano combining to send the Albion fans home happy. The win for Albion takes them up to 8th, 2 spots below their desired play off spot which after winning the last 3 games in the league they will feel confident in reaching sometime soon, next up for the Baggies is strugglers Brentford at The Hawthorns, a game they will feel very confident going into the league clash on Wedneday, 2 days after the cup clash with Blackpool. Blackpool 2-2 West Brom Blackpool win 6-5 on penalties. Donati (4), Klose (18), Stindl (61), Rafinha (79) Bloomfield Road: 7,384 Cup upset to the hands of Blackpool Tonight division 4 outfit Blackpool entertained West Bromwich Albion at Bloomfield Road and it was needless to say that it was a very exciting game that the two sides put on show on a cold Monday night in Blackpool. It took 4 minutes for the games first goal, Donati put the Seasides ahead with an early strike past Ochoa. Before the 20 minute mark that German was on the scoresheet again, Klose beating his man before finishing past the Blackpool goalkeeper. Stindl then put the home side back ahead on the hour mark, again finishing easily past Ochoa in the WBA goal who was having a bad night in the goal. The game looked to be settled, Albion barely threatened but it was 1 moment of magic from youngster Rafinha who levelled 10 minutes from time to send the Albion fans mental and the game into extra time, the last thing Albion needed after a tiring weekend of football. Nothing much happened in the 30 minutes of extra time, so it went to a penalty shootout, where any team could win and it was Blackpool that came out on top in the end. It turned out to be Stindl, who scored earlier in the game, stepped up to score for Blackpool to send them into the next round of the English Shield, after the match this is what manager Journal had to say on the final result: "It's obviously disappointing to lose the game in that fashion but it is great for the competition, a smaller team progressing and upsetting one of the bigger teams. I would like to congratulate the Blackpool boss on her win and I wish her the best of luck in the next round, for now though the league and getting into the play offs is our main aim and then to proceed to promotion to division 2." "I would also like to praise new signing Miroslav Klose who despite at the age of 35 he is still doing what he does best and scoring and providing us with brilliant entertainment week in week out. I am also looking forward to working with new signing Douglas Costa who I think is a great replacement for Rio Mavuba who sadly left us on Thursday but he made way for a great player in Costa, the main focus will now be on the game against Brentford on Wednesday night when we can hopefully climb into the play off spots."
  8. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread WBA 1-0 QPR Cassano (38) The Hawthorns: 17,835 Albion grab their first win at The Hawthorns this season It just seemed like West Bromwich Albion couldn't perform in front of their home crowd at The Hawthorns but tonight their luck this season changed, they finally got their first home win of the season against opposition Queens Park Rangers. It was a very dull game in truth, Italian Antonio Cassano was the only person to seperate the two sides with a strike 7 minutes before half time, the rest of the game is not worth reporting on. The Italian made it his 4th goal of the season and the 31 year old is looking un fazed after the recent arrivals Luuk De Jong and Miroslav Klose, Cassano spoke with an Italian radio station after the game and after it being translated this is what he had to say; "I'm currently enjoying my football here, but I understand I could still leave, my main aim is to play and give my best for my team when I do, I am pleased with my season so far." Will the Italian be soon sold? This is what Journal said to recent speculation; "As it stand Antonio is a West Bromwich Albion player and no bid has come in for him to suggest he is going elsewhere. He has made it clear that if he is to be sold that he would want to remain in England as he loves the football here. He's on fire for us at the moment, he's arguably been our best player this season so far and I'm sure this will continue." When asked about whether any other ins or outs would be happening throughout the course of the season this was his response; "It is hard to say of course. We are always in the market looking for players, but to sign players you need an agreement both ways and this can be difficult. I can't guarantee anything, but there is certainly ways I still wish to improve my squad throughout the course of the season, we will just have to wait and see what happens."
  9. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread De Jong fee agreed between Albion and Pompey It has tonight emerged that both Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion have agreed a fee for Dutch striker Luuk De Jong, a striker who was being chased by Journal before they gained new management recently. A fee has been accepted and it is just the waiting game now for De Jong to arrive and complete his medical at WBA before the deal can be fully confirmed. De Jong will add to the range in attacking talent on show at West Brom as they push for the promotion spots for the second season running. In the other direction it is understood that 2 players will part and head Pompey's way in exchange for the 23 year old forward with the first player being Moreno Rodrigo, the 22 year old is yet to be first in the pecking order at West Brom and despite being one for the future, he has to make way in order for De Jong to come in. The second player to leave will be Englishmen Ryan Fredericks who also hasn't featured a single game since Journal took over. "I very pleased to announce that Luuk De Jong will very shortly be a WBA player, but at the same time I am very sad we have to part with 2 very young players, but as far as we go in the promotion push De Jong improves our squad." the West Bromwich Albion manager said. "We are hopeful he will feature some part in tomorrows match against Queens Park Rangers where he will be unveiled to the crowd, but again this depends on his match fitness and availability."
  10. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Gomis departs, Klose & Morrison join It has been quiet on the transfer front recently at West Brom but in recent days the club have confirmed that French striker Bafetimbi Gomis has left the club for division 4 outfit Reading. Albion didn't let the Frenchmen go cheap though, in return the Baggiest obtained experienced 35 year old striker Miroslav Klose and exciting young Englishmen Ravel Morrison. Both players have joined West Bromwich Albion on 3 year deals, helping Albion in their promotion push this season. It seems that Journal has opted for a bit of experience going forward whilst at the same time still gaining a young Englishmen for his future plans with the club. Morrison, at just 20 years of age, has been impressive recently and if he continues the way he is he will become better and better. Klose not only offers experience to Albion but goals too, he is known as a big goalscorer, when speaking with Journal this is what he had to say on the deals: "It was an offer that we simply couldn't reject when it came in for Gomis. We had been chasing Ravel Morrison since I took charge here at West Brom and to finally acquire him as well as a like for like replacement for Gomis is a great deal for us. He may be 35 Miroslav but his goalscoring ability will not be questioned at this club, despite us recently going for 'younger' players. As far as any other transfers go, I am always in the market looking for players, again I will update when there is any news to tell you." Hull City 1-5 West Brom Klose (1), Diop (16), Florenzi (21), Cleverley (25), Townsend (37, 65) KC Stadium: 17,689 Townsend star man on first West Brom start After another disappointing midweek defeat at the hands to West Ham United where they were beaten 3-1 at The Hawthorns by the Hammers they last night overcome opposition Hull City in a very impressive way. The man who stole the show on Saturday night was 22 year old Andros Townsend who came in to replace the injured Rio Mavuba, and to great affect, a result that will hopefully get Albion's season well and underway in the big promotion push. The new German international Miroslav Klose went straight into the first team after completing his move from Reading on Friday night and it took him just one minute to get his West Brom career underway, running clear of the un alert City defence to slot past Subasic in the Hull goal. Despite such a great start from Albion, Hull drew level just 15 minutes later, Diop rose ahead of the WBA defence to take it back to square one at the KC. It was Italian winger Alessandro Florenzi that put West Brom back in the lead, the 22 year old showing what he has to offer individually to the Baggies, going on a nice run before slotting past the keeper 10 yards out. Albion were dominant all over the field and just 4 minutes later it was no surprise when they made it 3, this time Thomas Cleverley getting in on the act to score his second WBA career goal. Then it was 22 year old Andros Townsend that stole the show for West Brom, just before half time he made it 4-1 to West Brom to make the Hull keepers day go from bad to worse and then finally he made it 5 on the 65th minute to wrap up a really impressive man of the match performance, showing wy he was signed in the season break, this is what Journal had to say after the emphatic win over the Tigers: "Tonight was just a show of what we can do to teams when playing at our best. It was a disappointing loss midweek to West Ham United, not only did we acquire injuries to key players in Dejan Lovren and Rio Mavuba but as a team performance we just didn't turn up on the night and in the end the Hammers turned out deserved winners. But tonight was much different, we shown confidence in our play, I moved Tom central and gave Andros his first start on the wing and it paid off to massive effect, the game was won before half time. It is likely Townsend will start again midweek against Queens Park Rangers as Rio will still be recovering from his injury, in my opinion we saw Cleverley's best game he's had at our club yet in central midfield too."
  11. Re: Help With Deal(s) Thread... Reading have made an offer to West Bromwich Albion to swap Ravel MORRISON and Ola TOIVONEN for Bafétimbi GOMIS. Know nothing about Toivonen, worthy replacement for Gomis? Safe 89?
  12. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Rovers 2-3 AlbionAmbrosini (17), Cassano (36, 54), Noveski (53), Hamouma (88) The Memorial Stadium: 9,646 Rovers suffer home defeat to West Brom West Brom picked up their first win of the season on Saturday at the Memorial Stadium against Bristol Rovers. It was an Italian job in the end that ensured Albion picked up their first 3 points of the campaign to hopefully get their season up and running aiming for that desired promotion this season set by the Englishmen himself, Journal. Just after the quarter of an hour mark Ambrosini put Albion ahead, after early pressure from the Baggies it paid off when the unusual goalscorer struck home to put them 1-0 ahead. 20 minutes later West Brom's lead was doubled, this time another Italian Antonio Cassano to send Albion in a very commanding position, 2-0 up at the break. Shortly after it kicked off again it was 2-1, Rovers were back in the game but just 1 minute later that man Cassano stepped up again making it 3 in 3 this season, surely wrapping up the 3 points to take back to the Midlands. Hamouma grabbed a goal back for Bristol Rovers very late on but it didn't affect the final outcome that really mattered to Albion, their first 3 points of the season and a much better performance from his side comparing them to the 2 recent defeats to Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle, after it he spoke with press before heading back to Birmingham: "I am very happy with the win, good to see our experienced players grabbing us the win too showing that they still matter when starting in our squad so they deserve big credit for tonights win. I understand that they may not have a bright future with the club but when asked to play they provide with performances to the experience they have at this level of football. Next up is West Ham United at The Hawthorns a game in which we hope to make it back to back wins this season."
  13. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread West Brom 2-3 PortsmouthKozak (27, 86), De Jong (35), Gomis (47), Mavuba (85) The Hawthorns: 18,481 Kozak makes it back to back losses for Albion West Brom tonight lost their second game of the division 3 season after the Baggies slumped to a 3-2 defeat at The Hawthorns against Portsmouth. West Brom lost their first game of the season on Saturday against Plymouth and now Portsmouth have added to their dip in form with a late Kozak winner tonight 4 minutes from full time. West Brom started the game just like Saturday, slowly, so it was no surprised when Kozak put Portsmouth ahead just after 27 minutes, the Czech hammered it low past the Mexican Ochoa in the WBA goal. Pompys lead was doubled just moments late, De Jong pouncing on a Ochoa mistake to send Portsmouth 2-0 in at the break. Just 2 minutes after the restart West Brom were given hope in the game, Frenchmen Gomis doing what he does best and scoring past Benaglio in the Portsmouth goal. The game was end to end since the revival from Gomis and it took Albion to the 85th minute to get their deserved equaliser, Mavuba another Frenchmen stepping up to the plate to draw the Baggies level. Just a minute after the kick off, Albion fell to sleep and the Czech was there again, Kozak to slam home from inside the box to send the 3,000 Pompy fans wild, just a minute before they were in despair at a Albion equaliser but now they were jubilant, it was a nailed winner, the 3rd really took it out of Albion and with the 4 minutes remaining they failed to score again, Pompy win 3-2. "It is disappointing that we got 2 goals back and then let it slip a minute later but despite this my team showed great character to get back into the game and going into Saturday's I feel this could be a factor in how we start the game, previously we have started slow and conceded early but I hope this changes away to Bristol Rovers. It is important that we dont let these 2 losses affect us and it is key that we move on into Saturday's match with great confidence in hope of our first win of the season."
  14. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Jenkinson moves to The Hawthorns It was today confirmed by West Bromwich Albion and Rochdale that English right back Carl Jenkinson has completed his move to Albion. He joins the division 3 side from division 2 but insists he will do all he can to help the squad gain promotion this season. At just 21 and having signed a 4 season contract with the club today he is definitely one for not just West Brom but England too. The Englishmen is set to have his first training session with his new squad tomorrow and is said to be put straight into the squad for Wednesday game against Portsmouth after his £8 million pound switch.
