so a guy who spammed the entire forum for months whining about people abusing SM's tactical system that didn't work (and still doesn't work btw, one of my opponents plays two of CR, Ozil, Silva and Hazard wide in 3412 and has suffered no loss of form at all) is in fact a proud abuser of SM's financial system that doesn't work?

Tactics don't decide results in this game, it's way more random than that unfortunately. It's not like rock-paper-scissors where my scissors will always cut your paper but will always get blunted by someone else's stone etc.

Always use 3 subs in game, change the point of your attack in response to losing at 60 or 75 mins. The rest of the stuff (passing style etc) are all a smoke screen to make us think that things are so very complicated when it often boils down to random number generation. This of course is impossible to prove but it's as good a theory as any other. Saying that, I do now believe that the results are slightly more reliable than they used to be.

The Russian league is declining fast. They've lost most their big names now so the league looks capped at the 89 mark, which is probably fair. Scott Sinclair scored 21 goals from the wing in 35 games for Celtic this season, but it's irrelevant because he plays in an easy league. Promes is one of the best players in Russia and his rating reflects that. Biggest shafting? Lol, you've probably got a team of 20 90+ players and you're moaning because an 89 didn't get his 90. Please shut up.

Well what a week this has been!!

At the beginning of last week I was celebrating my 400th game in charge of Swindon after the 4-0 destruction of up-the-road rivals, Oxford by enjoying the crate of Tyskie beer that my Chairman insisted was a top quality chemical-free beer he had imported from Poland.

I had just about sobered up by Wednesday evening to make the trip to Millwall only to find that the Players had all got together to demand a pay rise.  Even in my inebriated state I didn't need a calculator to work out that that would mean approximately a 50% increase on our already over-budget, over-stretched and thoroughly un-deserved wage bill.

My Chairman was so put out he couldn't speak for the entire match, which, it turns out, was to be one of the few positives to come out of the week.

When he returned to the office he decided to retaliate by reducing the value of most of the players.  "There, that will teach them" he said as he wiped off 10m from the clubs value in one fell swoop.... ten minutes later the Swindon stock exchange collapsed and both shareholders were on the blower.....

Give the old codger credit though, just when you think he couldn't come up with a worse idea he always manages to lower the bar somehow.

Thursday morning I was still sleeping off the rest of that rather fine Tyskie when I got rudely awakened by the phone.  It was the Chairman insisting I come straight to the stadium.  Fortunately I was still in my car in the car park outside so I didn't have far to go.

There he was, with his hard hat and yellow flourescent work jacket, admiring his handiwork and looking all smug and pleased with himself.  "Yep, if the team wants a pay rise then no problem. I just added 3612 extra seats to the ground, which should cover the increase in wages plus bring in a little extra.  Here, have another crate of Tyskie...."

Well at the weekend's home match against Charlton he learned a very valuable lesson... well, 3612 actually,,,, yep, not one extra seat was sold...

So,,, to summarise,,,, the players now have an extra 50% of the wage bill to share between them,, we shaved 10m off the value of the club,,,, the builders want the money tomorrow for installing the extra empty seats,,, and, to cap it all, the chairman just received the import bill for the crates of Tyskie.

It was a pretty good beer though, so at least he got something right

I am hoping they go back to having a thorough search because at the moment we can only search if we've managed to get hold of a game's I.D, which is quite ridiculous really.

I often used to search new games that were just a couple of weeks old to see if any top sides had been abandoned early. I can't do this, amongst other things, now.

This is one of SM's latest ways to try and stop player-hogging, but what they've failed to realise is that not everyone "hogs" and the recent changes just blow many club's entire financial structures out of the water.

Of course the new way is more realistic (ahem) but people seem to forget that football in real life is financially living a charmed life. Realistic doesn't necessarily mean correct, especially where football is concerned these days.

Why not go the whole hog, SM, and have a corrupt SMFA at the helm with a Sepp Blater type in charge too? lol

Seriously though, SM have hinted at our club's income being increased and our stadiums too, plus better prize money, so fair enough. But wouldn't it then have just been easier to leave the finances alone and simply cap the amount of players each club can have on its books?

Every 4-2-3-1 formation played before the update is now classified as 4-2-3-1a.

Since you are planning to go through with the new interface wether we like it or not maybe I can help make it more enjoyable.

There are a few items I feel can be improved:

    1) As previously stated stars are unnecesary, just make the ratings number bold so it stands out. Stars are rather tacky in my opinion.
    2) I noticed you went for the "premier league" pitch with player pictures in place of shirts and 2/3 of the pitch shown instead of the full pitch. I personally find the numbered shirts and full pitch better looking. It would be nice if you could at least change the colour of the pitch to a lighter green to have more contrast since the background is dark.
    4) In the Last fixture page avg team rating is missing. That piece of information was very helpful for tactical decisions. Even on the match report players ratings are missing making manual calculation more demanding.
    5) In the Match statictics page players numbers are too big and often asymmetrical making it an eyesore. Statictics for the home team should also be displayed in white colour like the away team as black numbers look out of contrast with most of the team colours.

Can someone explain the function of the plus symbol next to every player on the Tactics page?

Yep, it's a bad move. Makes sense that it's about encouraging people to part with real cash to 'buy' cash - fitting with SM over the years.

I've got 2 very succesful teams that have been built from nothing over years. Both have just 24 players in each squad, mainly top players and a couple of lower rate 'utility' players.

Making these changes in wages without also adjusting income is moving the goal posts in a massive way. If they don't do anything to correct this I'm out I reckon. It could be a great game if it was in competent hands.

At the moment...I think everyone will resist selling and buying players.

If you think of a house. If the value suddenly changes, people do not instantly respond by buying more houses (if house values suddenly fall) or selling more houses (if house values rise).

Sudden changes tend to make people more conservative...and I suspect that most managers will not want to buy or sell their best players until they have worked out how the new valuations work.

    they've made the wages realistic.

and matchday incomes are probably pretty realistic too.

but what about TV money deals? and sponsorships? without those two sources of income no club in the real world could afford to have a team with more than a couple great players. so unless you introduce them into SM (or beef up matchday income to compensate) this change to wages is ridiculously unfair.

and honestly, if the wages are meant to make people reduce squad sizes to more realistic levels (with genuinely mid-rated guys as backups) then fine, but you then have to make cup and shield games part of the regular schedule of games.

if you were only playing every 3 days (i.e. no cup games) you could easily get by with a solid first XI and maybe a handful more starting quality players, and then a bunch of guys rated much lower as backups. that'd be no problem at all.

but when the cup game comes inbetween that? so you're playing 4 games a week? then you need to rotate completely otherwise you exhaust your players. and THAT is where squad stacking begins.

move cups into the regular schedule (so the seasons last longer, but you're still only playing three times a week) or speed up recovery times. and you eliminate most of the reasons to squad stack.

one or the other has to happen if you want to keep the game fun and playable.

Within the new UI, there is currently no way of knowing/seeing how strong an opponent potentially is regarding overall line-up rating.

    Why?

It was on the old UI and very useful when deciding how to line up your own team.

Yeah the wage increase is hefty. Messi and Ronaldo cost £13 million a year each in wages. That's just 38 league games!

I'd hazard a guess that in SM a fresh Barcelona squad wouldn't be self sustaining (I bet many teams wouldn't in fact). I had a wage bill of £8m last week, good job I have a nice bank balance at the moment but I cant see anyone being self sustained unless they have a 92/93 rated team at best.

This is supposed to stop player hogging but ironically the only way to make money is buy youngsters before they rise and sell them on due to the crazy valuations a young player can achieve now. Surely this will increase hoarding.

I'll persevere because I like a challenge and I've played this game 7+ years so actually care about my teams I still control but I cant see this financial situation as survivable for 99% of managers.

Personally I'd prefer a less strict financial situation and a squad cap. I don't care if squad caps are realistic. They would actually challenge managers to make considered purchases instead of buying 100's of young players who might rise

This new wage/value system destroy the teams. the most of them will have negative balance soon or will have to sell the best players to keep positive balance. we have to choose for negative balance or weak team. few big teams can afford best players without balance problems. and this will reduce the competitiveness of the championships.
with the same roster my team before loses nothing in home games and about 800.000 in away games. now the same roster loses about 2,5 m in away games and 1m in home games.in 30 games will lose 45 millions. in 2-3 seasons the balance will be -150 millions. so the team have to sell now the best and exspensive players to keep a good balance and from this will be a weaker team.
the weak teams after the value system changes can't anymore strengthen their squad because they can't increase their balances. this will make less competitive teams and championships and many players will loose their interest in playing with other teams except the big teams like real, barca, bayern etc. and some of them will quit the game.

I think you'll find that if a player "might not play his best" is hardly likely to mean I think he is going to get a 9 rating, how about you stop being a pedantic little troll and step away from your screen and go learn something about real football, even a plank of wood if placed in the right spot could still put a ball over a line so of course someone out of position could still score or assist. Fact is we are all here to make our feelings clear to SM on the way the game has been changed, you don't like that tough! It strikes me one of the comments you got earlier was spot on about how you are trying to stop a successful formation in it's tracks, what's the matter did you lose your rattle after losing to it once too often? People like you are probably the reason SM have made this mistake, because they hear the ones that shout the loudest on here instead of those of us who normally just get on with playing the game, you have your opinion you have made it now kindly shut up and let others make there opinions known without your petulant troll like behaviour!

Did I miss Sepp Blatter handing his torch over? I have played SM for 8 years and care about the game,I am not here to be ganged up on by a couple of keyboard gangsters who probably know nothing about real football beyond stats and figures. That is my point, just because you choose to play 3 @ the back doesn't mean they have to be CBs it is possible to play one CB and two fullbacks instead. And how is playing AMs abuse of 352? It's merely playing an attacking version of the formation, something many of us have done for years and now we are expected to just change it all overnight! There are different versions of formations, if they just bring in a 352 attack it could solve this problem. As for fullbacks in midfield, if I wanted defensive players in that position I wouldn't have had AMs there would I. I notice you didn't pick fault in what I said about the economic changes.

Really losing interest in my teams because of these over the top uupdates. Not fond of the financial changes made to players and player wages, don't like the fact my 4-3-3 formation that I have been using for like ten years has been changed so few of my players are being said to be slightly out of position with the yellow. The transfer prices of players doesn't make sense anymore how are you pricing players now. I think it's a awful change that has happen I may just be playing with around four teams soon instead of the fourteen I have been.

There are lots of people complaining about the new interface but to be honest it does look good, the problem is it seems to have been rushed and there are lots of problems, but that can be got over, what can't be is the way the economics of the game suddenly make managing small teams to success impossible due to high transfer values and wages and also the formation changes, you can't just decide that all of a sudden a 3 man defense has to consist only of CBs and that attacking midfielders can no longer play on wings when managers like myself have spent years building teams around these formations,it's not fair, the interface can be worked on but these two issues can't,they are changes that are fundamentally changing the game. I have spent way more hours on the game than I care to admit and it has even helped in dark times like the deaths of my parents but right now I am seriously considering not renewing membership in a month or so when it runs out,we love this game, please just accept you made a mistake this time and change it back before it's too late!
