Re: New Finances (Loans / Contracts)
I recently (ish) started in an EC with Tamworth who had as I recall 23 players worth about 240k in total! As I'm the most clueless person as regards risers I just bought some 75 rated players to start off with then after 10 weeks traded them up to 78s, in another 10 weeks I'll trade those up to 82s etc etc (as they are worth a fair bit to external clubs)
In the first season I got promoted from Division 5 via the play-offs with an average squad rating of 76, it's now up to 79 in Division 4...so you can improve small clubs cheaply without being incredibly clued up (I know I've made slow progress - but it shows you don't need an 87 rated team to get promoted from Division 5)
As for the squad cap debate, I play mostly in GCs where I don't think player hogging is much of an issue, as the top talent tends to be spread amongst several clubs, there's not just one club that has everyone! Except maybe in GC1 - which funnily enough is the most populated GC so it can't be putting people off

Considering the poor old match engine has to process results for over a million games every matchday and takes about 2 seconds to do each one...it isn't going to be all that complex lol. Just think of the number of unmanaged v unmanaged games it has to do, I'm sure it doesn't take its' time analysing those!
In a gameworld a long time ago I set up a series of friendlies with another forumer (Jooles...I think he's still about) and we played each other lots of times where both our squads had the same formation, player ratings and tactics, you'd expect the results to all be similar but some were draws, he won some and I won some (with the odd crazy score of 6-2 and 5-1 thrown in). So there's always a little bit of "chance" in there - just as with real football!
Yes the stats are a bit silly sometimes - I lost a game recently where I had 56% possession to their 44%, 31 shots (16 on target) to their 6 (with 2 on target) but to be honest I never really look at them much, the only way the stats would matter is if it actually played a miniature real game of football (which it doesn't - it's just a glorified accountancy programme lol).
If the long-promised 2D match display ever appears then it will have to simulate the pattern of a real life match and we'll all be able to see it working, which would be good! Although I don't know what would happen in the 2D match if a game got to 12-0

Re: How about making a realistic game engine ?
Sorry do not agree with this .
It is a Fantasy game thats why i enjoy playing it .
It should be taken into account in the match engine but not play the main part .
If it all consisted on having the highest rated team then you might as well just walk away from the game .
As a Fantasy game yes you get a chance to fill your team and Squad with 90 plus rated players .
Yes in real life teams like these would mainly win say 90% of matches ,but its not real life and to me the emphasise should be on you as the manager doing your homework and picking the right tactics ,substitutions etc ,players in the correct positions and so forth .
Thats why i do agree with most that the match engine does need sorting out ,virtually no change since i left 2 yrs ago .
A player for the top league i think is supposed to be rated 85 and above etc.
Therefore with the right managment skills and if all your players ratings are 85 or more you should in this game beat a 93 in that same league and not as you suggest never or even a one off .
Since i came back noticed in my set ups i have joined and it was always the case before i left how many are ruined because the fun of some is jumping in and out of teams to stop others getting these sort of players because they want them etc .
You look at some sets and a few teams have already ripped of all the cream and left just the spilt milk for you to lick up if your daft enough to do it and not look elswhere .
Thats why there are a lot of ruined set ups and managers not logging on everyday ,they think all they have to do is buy the cream and if you lose games to lesser rated then its the match engines fault .
So if it was how they want then its pointless joining these set ups .
To me its a fantasy game and we all like it for different aspects .
In 4 of my set ups Sterling was used for exchanging with money for higher players etc ,or he was on the free transfer list .
When last playing this would be unbelievable because many forumers loved doing their homework on this kind of thing and would know at 75 rated he is going to go up and be well worth the pittance you can pay for him at the moment .
Players like him would be snapped up by those who like to play SM for this sort of thing .
I would say many SM members like playing SM for the latter aspect as well as other things etc .
But at the end of the day we are managers in set ups managing our teams to our best ability .
We all want to win the league and cups otherwise why bother playing .
To repeat what i mentioned before ,The Differnt divisions as far as i know if not changed have a starting rating for what a player should be in that division ,sure 85 was 1st Divisions .
As a kill joy i would say if your playing anyone below that leagues rating in your team or the opponents then it should have an effect on matches, but not teams that managed to pick the cream and have just gone for the highest rating .
There is nothing worse than joining a set up with certain friends having already got their teams 91 plus rated etc and because they have no transfer money left they log on just match days etc expecting no matter what formations they put in they should be anyone below 90 .
Yet others that have these lesser rated sides log on far more doing their tactics etc really thinking they do have an efffect and it is not just simply moving your teams rating up higher and higher that gets you the results.
Nope its a fantasy game let members have their fantasy on filling their team with the cream, but let us members that are not obsessed and like the managment skills more to play a part ,let the match engine take all this into the equation as well .

Well well well...since I last posted, the 88 rated player did join (raising the team average to 75 and throwing my "13 ratings higher than your team average" theory out of the window) then I tried to sign a 90 rated player and surprise surprise he joined as well!
So I ended up with a 75 average rated team with one 90, an 88, 2 86s and an 83, which was a bit strange. I have since quit the team (due to (a) them being for experimental purposes only and ( running out of money).
I shall take another team on in due course though and try to do the experiment a little bit better, perhaps starting with all the players on the same rating and seeing what it lets me sign then

Re: Players refusing to sign for a club ?? :0
Right I think it might be (and I stress "might" as I'll probably do the experiment again sometime) that players up to and including 13 ratings higher than your team average will join...
The team I took over had an average rating of 73 and with that I managed to sign an 86 but an 87 refused. Signing the 86 raised the average to 74 and once the average was 74 I tried to sign the same 87 again and this time he joined!
The team average is still 74 so I'll now try and sign an 88 and if he refuses then I'm 99.9% sure that's it

Re: Players refusing to sign for a club ?? :0
Interesting...I'm trying an experiment as we speak to find the definitive answer to this puzzling question but have so far not quite solved it!
I took over a team in Division 4 of an old English Championship, they had an average rating of 72 but their best player was rated 80. In theory then if it's 10 above average rating then the highest they can sign is 82, and if it's 10 over the best player the highest they can sign is 90!
The first player I tried to sign was rated 83, and surprisingly that worked so it's not 10 over average rating as I first thought! Signing this 83 raised the average of the whole team to 73, so next up I tried to sign an 87 and he has refused.
So maybe it's "5 ratings higher than the highest rated player", I shall try and sign an 86 and then an 85 to see if either of them accept...

Just rejected Barcelona in GC34 :
    99 x 1 (Messi...of course lol)
    97 x 1 (Iniesta)
    95 x 1 (Alves)
    94 x 2 (Alonso, Busquets)
    93 x 3 (Modric, Essien, Cole)
    92 x 3 (Torres, Sagna, Lloris)
    91 x 8 (including Gotze)
    90 x 3
31 players in the first team, 20 out on loan too including some pretty good ones such as Cristian Tello and The Ox. The season has just finished, they've got £280M in the bank and...well...it's Barcelona
    Go go go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly - the loans are extremely random and don't seem to be there to improve any of the teams...I've seen unmanaged teams with an average rating of 87 making loan bids for 60 / 70 rated players, which is just crazy!
One of my Gold Championship clubs had a loan bid for two of its' 75 rated players from an unmanaged AC Milan - on principle I didn't send them there because as soon as a new manager took over they'd be straight back again lol (and rightly so)
I never used to loan list players before, as I knew no sane manager would ever want players rated under 80 in a competitive setup - but I must admit I've been loan listing them now this new feature has been put in place (although I do feel slightly naughty doing so, the same way I feel whenever I watch Lindsay Lohan in the Freaky Friday remake)

72 in the youth team as well, 4 out on loan - maybe not the best you'll ever see but (a) hey it's Real Madrid and ( hey it's GC19. 6th in the league (after 15 games) and with £87.5M in the bank, gotta be worth a go!

Not sure if this is correct but from what I've seen other people post on here it might be, it goes with the primary position of the player so the game sees Damiao as your second best CF so won't let him go (only Dzeko is also a CF, Jovetic is an AM/Fwd while Lavezzi is a Fwd/AM so it doesn't include them in the calculation)

Elsewhere i gained my first ever GC promotion with Falkirk in 109. Couple of teams available in division 2 aswell. Good teams, with money to build on. Good setup, Scotland is very competitive.

It can happen if you place a bid when there are already bids in for other players from that unmanaged club - while you're waiting for your bid to be accepted another player from that club is sold, thus pushing up the C/V of the player you were trying to sign...it'll be rejected if the player's new value is more than the amount you bid!
Edit : beat me to it (see above)

90 x 6 (Cisse, Walcott, Pjanic, Isla, Sakho, Pereira)
89 x 5 (Ba, Yarmolenko, Trasch, Ruiz, Szczesny)
26 in the first team, 30 in the youth team (including Ljajic, Corchia, Verratti and Wickham) and 1 out on loan (Galeano).
The season has just finished and they were 3rd in the league meaning Champions Cup next season, the squad is worth £299M and they've got £53M in the bank too. There are some pretty good Darlingtons about in GCs, grab yourselves one now!!

There is an easy way to fix player concerns for lack of games.......play them! If you are not playing players why do you need them? Ok, youth talent I understand but they rarely develop concerns anyway particularly when they are in a strong squad with many players rated higher than them. It is not difficult to keep players happy as you can use 14 in every game easily and with a bit of rotation keeping 28 happy is not really a problem in my opinion. Why would ou need more than 28 first teamers?

the only problems I can see with the new concerns are youth developing concerns eg under 21s and players supposedly developing concerns while injured and suspended.
people are always giving out about realism. surely 92+ rated players playing as back up then getting upset isnt unrealistic? and as for saying there is three competitions to compete in, look at some of the teams man u had to field in the champs league last season, and every prem team plays a sub par team in the fa cup and carling cup. surely the second team should be far weaker than the first.

A large first team squad of 69 players and 7 in the youth team, a lot of the first team are fairly unknown or not so good but they do have a few very good players to base your team around :
    92 x 1 (Hummels)
    91 x 2 (Soldado, Sahin)
    90 x 3 (Reus, Schmelzer, Weidenfeller)
    89 x 3
    88 x 7 (including Parejo and Botia)
    87 x 13
    etc.
The season has just finished and they came 3rd in the league so will play Champions Cup football next season, they've got £72M in the bank to play with and if all that isn't enough (which I'm sure it is) they've also got John Pantsil

    Re: Squad Sizes
I assume when you say "it is" you are responding to my question asking whether it is realistic to cap players? Can you give an example of where this is happening in reality? The rest of your point, whilst valid, doesn't support the suggestion that a cap is realistic.
Have a look over past posts on this thread....but basically' date=' anything that is realistic and has no detrimental effect on managers is desirable. A cap fails on both accounts. Concerns were added since this thread started and are far from perfect but a big plus to naturally reducing sizes.
Yes, it is fair as they were not made to join the GameWorlds under duress and still have every opportunity to build a winning team based upon the other c. 49,950 players on the database. Fun? Yes, if they want a challenge, if they want an easy ride there are so many other GameWorlds.
Absolutely agree a squad size cap would be a good custom GameWorld option.
Playing low rated or young players in SM does not develop them. It will help their morale' date=' but does nothing else aside from keeping them happy. The point is in reality a small team can improve by investing in youth devlopment facilities, scouting etc. In SM neither option exists so if you want to invest the only option is to buy players. Naturally some managers want to invest heavily and so go down the route of signing many players. They rise or fall based upon who they sign.
Player ratings are reviewed every week, with the popular and highest rated leagues done about every three months. I don't think SM could realistically do it quicker. I appreciate some people might be too impatient even for that to be useful, but surely they would be best off joining a new GameWorld than one long established where a club has many of the better players (which nearly always takes quite a bit of time to achieve) if that is what they want out of the game. You are right so I would only repeat my prev point about patience, etc.
It is both although stats tend to be the driving force behind the less popular leagues rating reviews.
I was under the impression that most teams could be found quite easily these days in one GameWorld or another. Obviously if you are determined to get a certain team this limits your options but it is still a person's choice to limit themselves by being set on a specific team.
