  1. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Two new names to add to the Chesterfield squad, probably something for the future but it gives us good depth coming into another tough season. Final part of the Matic deal with Walsall, he's a good talent according to Leyton Orient's Geoffrey and hopefully he can get some game time at the club A good riser here, I saw his team mate get a rise to 82, hopefully the same applies to Jonas.
  2. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Dom, I do agree with you in part that it's not in good faith to promise someone one thing then to do another however I do believe that the Southend manager is entitled to one mistake, if they make another similar mistake then that's another matter. But I think the important thing, is that he has understood the error of his ways but time will tell if he has learnt from his mistake. I must note that I've had nothing but a pleasurable experience when dealing with other managers, with transfers and agreeing in principle for other player. But I can understand the frustration of selling 4 of your players in order to initiate a move, only to be ousted at the last moment.
  3. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread A flurry of transfer activity since Chesterfield's win in the play off final. Credit to Ozzy for getting this deal done so quickly. After the departure of Hugo Rodallega, Chesterfield needed to find another "go to" man to provide the goals and Sulejmani may provide the answer. Although not a real "genuine" striker, he can play on the left and right wings and he is definitely a talent that I rate. Despite the fact that he may be in for a - 1 drop due to his falling out with Ajax which pretty much meant that he was in the 2nd team for the rest of the season. His move to Benfica will hopefully reignite his career. He was too good a player to pass up and at the price which I got him for I regard it, as quite a steal for little Chesterfield Sadly our goal scoring machine has to go, not because of his SM career but for his real life one. As Martin Jol has denied much time for Rodallega to play at Fulham, he looks like he will face an immiment drop to 86 (similar to Stephen Ireland) But he will forever be remembered for his brace in the play-off final, hopefully we can get Rodallega back at the club someday. Due to recent signings of Britton, Sulejmani and increased wages of various other players in the team who rose, Mariga has been deemed surplus to the team but will leave considerable room for Chesterfield to stay above debt. Cheers wozlives, I was really bummed when we missed out on the automatic promotion and my stress could have done without all the excitement. But we made it at the end of the day! Guess I'll be seeing you in Division 3 and we can continue our rivalry
  4. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread I mean for me, rather than anticipate what the other team are gonna do, I look at my team and think what the best formation that play to my team's strengths. But then you would need to persist with your formation even if it seems pretty bad, I mean on the opening day of the season I got hammered 4-0 by Swindon Town but I persisted and eventually got up to 3rd place. After a while, you will pick up where your team's strengths are and where the other team's weaknesses are, I mean it took me 3 seasons to figure out where my team was at
  5. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Play Off Final: Chesterfield 3 Rotherham United 2 Chesterfield are in Division 3!!! The feeling is still setting in but what a great result for our small little club! Commiserations to Machine and his Rotherham side who were brilliant on the day but fortunately for us, we just did enough to get the win. Hugo 'the man, the moment' Rodallega grabbed a brace and was the sole reason we were still in the Final after 60 minutes. The lead changed 3 times before Chesterfield were crowned the winners! I thought it was appropriate that one of my most consistent players Denys Garmash grabbed the winner with a lovely header. I had to make a decision for my defense as both Douglao and Mykhalyk weren't fit enough to start and gave fringe players Rojo and young Averor a start, a risk but at the end of the day it worked out well. Lallana and Britton weren't fit enough to start so Mariga and Antonelli slotted in and played their roles well! The result has left me speechless and the thought of being in Division 3 next season is still unreal. In other good news: I had a bidding war with Exter City for this versatile young player, I probably bid $1.5 million more than what I valued him at but at the end of the day, he's young, can play 3 positions and in real life is still in the Bundesliga. So I would think its a win-win for me.
  6. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Play-off Semi Final: Chesterfield 2 Accrington Stanley 0 Chesterfield are off to Wembley!! commiserations to Accrington who played their hearts out today. I was actually pretty nervous today as we couldn't beat them in the final game of the season however today was a different proposition. Captain Courageous Mykhalyk gave us the lead in the 38th minute after a nervy start. Italian hitman Paloschi made up for his horrible performance last week with a brilliant goal to seal the game. Bravo was marvelous and gave us another clean sheet I thought that we might be made to pay for our lack of finishing prowess on the final game of the season however luckily we had done enough. Cheers Machine, I'm excited about going to Wembley and hopefully it will help my team financially. Like Rotherham, it's a race against time to get some of my players right for the final but hopefully it pans out for us. Good luck Machine! Onward and upward to a Wembley Final!
  7. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 0 Accrington Stanley 0 Absolutely devastated that we drew today, we had a golden opportunity to get automatic promotion but we fluffed our lines. I knew coming into this game anything but a win would give us an opportunity at auto promotion. Congrats to Accrington for getting into the play-offs but for us, it was a day of failure. Alberto Paloschi had an absolute shocker and we just couldn't find a cutting edge on the day. We need to dust ourselves off and get ready for the re-match against Accrington.
  8. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Rotherham United 1 Chesterfield 4 One of my finest moments as Chesterfield manager, a 4-1 win over Rotherham. We got a win over Rotherham, a team that we have never beaten in the last 3 seasons. What was the cherry on top was the new boys Leon Britton and debutant Adam Lallana scored the opening two goals. In the immediate short term, the transfer dealing for both Brit players has been a great piece of business and with the departure of Torbinsky, it leaves some room above the debt line. Hugo Rodallega and Douglao finished off the job and another great performance where we needed the result.
  9. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread The sad reality of being for a smaller club is that there is little room for sentimentality Our talisman since my arrival at the club has departed, his injury which sees him out for the season, his wage and the excess in players has resulted in one of our best players leaving. His 5 season stay at Chesterfield came to an end, his last two seasons at the club have been extraordinary (33 goals and 24 assists in the last two seasons) and he has been our MVP for the last two seasons. Sadly with the arrival of Lallana and the growing wage bill, Chesterfield couldn't afford him especially with the possibility of play-off around the corner.
  10. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Leyton Orient 0 An absolute massive result for Chesterfield, finding a way to win over Leyton Orient, good game Geoffrey. No doubt Geoffrey will feel aggrieved by not at least scoring one goal with so many chances at goal but Colossal Claudio Bravo kept everything out and returned back to solid form. Unfortunately Chesterfield talisman Dmitri Torbinsky scored his last goal for the club with an injury which will see him out for the rest of the season. In brighter news, new signing Leon Britton made the perfect debut for Chesterfield, grabbing an 8 rating and protecting the back 4. The win puts us Chesterfield back in the hunt for a play off spot. In transfer news, Although Matic is a brilliant talent as was our potential captain next season, with the deal which sees Britton and Lallana come in return. If both players can make an impact at the club, this deal could potentially work out for both sides. Britton is a solid DM who can pass, tackle and puts himself in the right defensive position. I don't believe the hype about his passing percentage being higher than Xavi's but his ability to keep possession will suit our style perfectly and is a great fit for us. I highly rate Lallana and when he reaches 87 (which I know he will), he will be a force to be reckoned with. His dribbling, eye for a pass and his flair will make him a real threat in the final third, he will probably come in for the injured Torbinsky. Next up is our bogey team Rotherham United
  11. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN yeah i'm in!
  12. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN I'm Aussie as well Liverpool atm are 3rd
  13. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Colchester 5 Chesterfield 3 Chesterfield's chances of finishing in the auto promotion are all but over with the loss to Colchester United. Full credit to the Colchester manager who tactically got the better of me. Its not often that an individual's performance would have such a huge impact on the result but Bravo had a horrible, horrible day and let in at least 3 goals too many. Since I gave the Chilean keeper some praise, he has been shocking. We deserved to be fighting for a play-off spots, its pretty unusual but 3rd to 6th are all on 59 points, so a good result is crucial. By the end of the next matchday, we might have fallen out of the play off spots. We have a difficult final run to the end of the season, but i guess it will test our play off "credentials" [H] Leyton Orient (10th) who knows which Orient will show up? If they are at their best then we won't be able to handle them but if they play within themselves, we might have a shot at a win [A] Rotherham United (6th) our bogey team and will certainly be a test [H] Accrington Stanley (8th) kings of consistency toward the back end of the season and they will never offer an easy game
  14. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 2 Gillingham 2 Bitterly disappointed with a point but full respect to Borrow who played pretty well. Ekici's sending off pretty much denied us any opportunity for getting the three points on the day. Really disappointed with Ekici as his sending off was for petulance rather than committing bad fouls. Paloschi and Rojo gave us the lead twice but Gillingham came back twice to grab a point. Any hopes of grabbing a top 2 spot have hit a major roadblock and may be out of reach A must win game against Colchester United coming up
  15. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread A bit of outgoing transfer news for little Chesterfield Little Japanese play maker who I brought in for 280k, now he's doubled my investment, pleased with the transfer Young Aussie defender who made 2.5 times the profit and he'll help us stay in the green. Not huge transfer news but still important for keeping us above the debt
  16. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Brighton and Hove Albion 0 Chesterfield 2 Chesterfield have won two in a row, thanks to a resounding 2-0 of Duffman's Hove Albion. Good game mate. I thought that we played the better football in the first half and we grabbed the deserved lead through Karim Ait Fana who returned back into the starting XI for Manitias. The sending off of Palacio early in the second half sealed the result, in my opinion. A great free kick by Ekici provided Torbinsky a goal and he earned the MOTM, he hasn't lost a step despite going down to 87 rating. Dagenham's lost the Wycombe cuts the gap from 2nd to 3rd to 3 points and the next two games against Gillingham and Colchester are going to be crucial if we want to push for an automatic promotion spot Next up is Burrow's Gillingham
  17. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 3 Cardiff City 1 Chesterfield's winning run continues with a 3-1 over Cardiff. Ekici started things off with a brilliant free kick, Hugo Rodallega capped off his return to the first XI with a goal and Spireites maestro Torbinsky sealed the result through a free kick. I don't know who is having a more stellar season, Torbinsky or Rodallega. Both have scored 16 goals each and both have double digit assists. Although things may change after Torbinsky dropped to 87, hopefully not. We need a good run, going into the play-off finals. Next up is Brighton and Hove Albion
  18. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Some very interesting transfer news to report at Chesterfield Chesterfield have bagged themselves an absolute bargain in Northampton's clear out with young Uruguayan midfielder Laxalt. Very pleased with the deal and rarely does our club have the luxury or opportunity to purchase such a sought after player. Sir Abdul was a pleasure to do business with and he was more than generous accepting a lower offer than what he valued the player at. In real life, he was a hidden gem in the U20s South American Championship who earned himself a move to Inter Milan. His dynamic running and pace may suggest he's considered a wide talent but one thing is for sure, he is the future of Chesterfield's midfield along with Sergio Oliveria
  19. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN Liverpool 3 Portsmouth 2 Liverpool capped off a great comeback win against Portsmouth to leap back into 3rd place. Hat-trick Rossi showed everyone his quality and he could have had 4 goals if he didn't miss his penalty. A good win for the second team but our attention now turns to the English Shield Final. It's been a long while since I posted on the thread but what a great time to do it. I'm anxious for the final and for us to possibly win my first trophy in EC2933.
  20. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Oldham 3 Chesterfield 2 Chesterfield were condemned to another inconsistent performance with a 3-2 loss against Oldham. Well done Oldham, they out played us for the majority of the game and they deserved to get the win. Eventhough we pegged them back with 2 successive goals through Ekici and captain Mykhalyk, it just made the match look closer then it was. Bravo had a bad game and it continues his bad run of games to 3. Oldham were 3-0 ahead within 54 minutes with a depleted side and their top scorer for the season. This was a bad loss for Chesterfield, one of the worst performances against a play-off contender and we need to stand up and be accountable, especially in the case of Bravo. Next up is Cardiff City, where we will hope to pick up our performance level
  21. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 5 Wycombe 0 Chesterfield were back to winning ways with a resounding win over struggling Wycombe. The win was made all the more important with Dagenham losing and the fact that the sides below us were closing in. Spireites Russian maestro Torbinsky lead by example with a clinical brace, Mehmet Ekici continued his good form in the middle of the park with an assist and a goal from a free kick whilst Alberto Paloschi who was preferred from Rodallega and he backed it up with a double assist. Flying wingbacks De Silverstri and Antonelli completed the rout with a goal each. With the end of the season quickly, we need to maintain our good form. Next up is Oldham
  22. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Aldershot 4 Chesterfield 4 An 8 goal thriller with Chesterfield only grabbing a point. The lead changed 2 or 3 times in the game, Alberto Paloschi is shining at the end of the season with a brace while Rodallega grabbed a double from the bench. The optimist in me was happy with us scoring 4 goals but the cynic in me was disappointed in conceding 4 goals. All in all, only a point. We stayed in 3rd but we want a tilt at the auto promotion spots. I have a good selection worry with Paloschi and Rodallega both on fire in front of goal, I will decide before the crunch game against Wycombe
