  1. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 3 Burton Albion 3 Chesterfield get away with a lucky point against Albion. It was a game of 2 halves where Albion rightfully were 2 goals ahead of us at half time but we played a lot better in the second half. Brought on Rodallega, he grabbed a goal and young Turkish sensation Ekici grabbed the equaliser and a point for us. Unexpected point after Albion dominated for long periods but it shows that we can get something out of games even when we aren't playing well which will be important if we want to secure a play-off spot Next up is Aldershot
  2. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Some news on the Chesterfield front: The subsequent sales of my risers although albeit Moreira was a bit of a flop but he pretty much sold for the amount that we purchased him for, so no harm, no foul. In Haas' case, we doubled our investment in the German defender and turned in a handy profit. Something to keep us going financially. A predicted riser coming in for a little amount of money, he joins with the growing Greek contingent that we have at Chesterfield. The good thing is that with the departure of Haas and Moreira that takes $15k off our wage bill and we bring in a player who only has $3k wages. In reporter news: After a long hiatus, I have written a report about 5 surprise packets in Division 4 this season. http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.co.uk/
  3. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Bristol Rovers 1 Chesterfield's unbeaten run continues against highly rated Bristol Rovers however I'm not a happy chappy. We dominated possession but yet again, it seemed like the other side carved out more goal scoring opportunities. Italian spearhead Alberto Paloschi was clinical and gave us the early lead while Rover's Marica equalised in the 51st minute but this draw dealt a very steep cost. Defensive anchor Matic picked up a very nasty injury which will see him out for the remainder of the season, which a huge blow for our side. Since Matic made the first XI, he hasn't looked like losing his starting spot. I suppose it provides an opportunity for fringe players Miantis or Mariga to step up. Antonelli also picked up a minor knock which will probably see our back line reshuffled for the next few matches. Next up is Seth lark's Stockport "Brazil" County but our team looks like we are up against it...
  4. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Shrewsbury Town 1 Chesterfield 1 Chesterfield got away with an unlikely but fair point against Shrewsbury Town. After our previous encounter yielded a scoreline of 6-6, a 1-1 draw was probably a big anti-climax. With the injury to Mariga and the misfiring of Rodallega, Ekici and Paloschi got their opportunities in the starting XI. Out of the two fringe players, Ekici was the most impressive, not only being the best player in our team but scoring the equaliser. If he continues on like this, it will make my decision very hard wen Mariga becomes match fit. Still in the play off spots after a draw, in truth I was glad to grab a point and now we can move forward to Bristol Rover, another tough proposition
  5. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread A bit of transfer news for Chesterfield: From the transfer loss of Jeffren Suarez, we have brought in two players who could hopefully fill the mold from the departed Spaniard. Bolly has been given a decent amount of time at Fortuna Dusseldorf and is currently in the starting XI. A hopeful riser for a small amount of money Hahn similar to Bolly, has been getting a fair amount of time in struggling Augsburg but if they stay up, he could be in store for a decent rise. His versatility being able to play on the left, right and centrally.
  6. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Dagenham 0 Chesterfield continued on their merry way with a 1-0 win over 2nd placed Dagenham. When watching this game, the phrase Arsene Wenger coined "sterile domination" came to mind. We had all the possession but we didn't do anything with it, we were fortunate to get away with the win, thanks to Matic. Claudio Bravo was an absolute beast in between the sticks and earned him a MOTM. With this result, we jump up to 4th and close the gap with Dagenham but what we need to do now is to stay in the play off spots. We did have a spot of bad news with Mariga picking up an injury which provides Ekici a glimmer of hope coming back into the starting XI. On the rating front, Denys Garmash finally got his well deserved 88 with a rise just before the Dagenham game. Its been a good month of risers for our team with Miantias, Rojo, Douglao, Matic and now Garmash all rising, this is the best Chesterfield team that I've had since I took over the job. On transfer news The sad reality of being a smaller club is that we can't afford big rated depth players. Jeffren hasn't started all season but made 6 sub appearances but our team will benefit without him on the wage bill. Next up is Shrewsbury Town but much has changed since our 6-6 encounter
  7. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Shrope United 1 Chesterfield 2 Chesterfield bounced back from their worst performance in recent memory with a sound 2-1 over Shrope. Things weren't looking good at the start with Lamah eventhough we had majority of possession but one part of Spirites attacking duo Torbinsky equalised. Young Ukrainian starlet Denys Garmash chose the best time to break his scoring duck by grabbing the winner on the hour mark. We showed our defensive solidarity by holding off the Irons for half an hour. Our midfield dominated and redeemed themselves from the last game, what we need to do now is to have a consistent run going into the end of the season. We jump back into the play off spots, next up is Dagenham and Redbridge
  8. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 2 Brentford 5 Chesterfield were made to eat some humble pie thanks to the ruthless Brentford, they destroyed our defence. What compounded matters even more was that our GK Bravo had one of his worst games since coming back to Chesterfield. We need to move on quickly from our worst performance since the opening day of the season when we were smashed by Swindon Town 6-1. Doesn't get any easier against Shrope and we just fall outside of the playoff spots. In other news, A long awaited rise +1 to 87 for Giannis Mianiatis (who has been pretty solid since being rating 86) and he is versatile player which is always a bonus. In transfer news, Top manager and the negotiations were quick and easy. Definitely a future dealings could come of this and this deal keeps us above the debt line A cheap purchase for a riser and after the Mulumbu deal he will provide good cover in the centre half and right back
  9. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Southend United 0 Chesterfield 1 Chesterfield capped off a good week with a 1-0 over high flying Southend, I think we had become the "bogey team" for Southend with wins in both home and away encounters. This time it was Nemanja Matic who grabbed the winner and the MOTM but the whole midfield played really well against a tough Southend side. This win pushes us back into the play off spots and hopefully we can stay there. Another piece of good news was the Marcos Rojo who has broken into the starting XI after being a bench player last season, rose +1 to 87 which not only boosts our defense but helps us reload heading into the final half of the season. Next up is a blockbuster game against 6th placed Brentford, who are struggling at the moment but beware of the wounded tiger
  10. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 3 Swindon Town 3 Chesterfield's determination and drive was shown today against league leaders Swindon Town. We were 3-0 down after 25 minutes but Torbinsky's goal kept Spireites in the game but the substitution of Ait Fana and Paloschi turned the game for us. Young Italian striker Alberto Paloschi who is often in the shadows of Rodallega was on centre stage today, bagging in a brace in order to get us a draw. Unfortunately he picked up a minor knock which will see him miss a game or two. With this game, I'm equal longest serving manager for Chesterfield with Spireites legend Alex O Donnell. With about 3 seasons with Chesterfield, although initially there were trying times, things are looking up for Chesterfield
  11. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Accrington Stanley 0 Chesterfield 2 Chesterfield returned to the winner's column thanks to a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley. Bargain duo Rodallega and Matic providing the difference at the end of the day. The match was closer than the score suggested with the majority of the game being 1-0, thanks to a towering header from striker Rodallega from a Garmash cross. Hugo Rodallega is fast becoming my best ever signing at Chesterfield, he has already equaled his goalscoring record for a season, replicating his success at Wigan and Reading. I paid peanuts for him with Nicky Kupier going in the opposite direction and I would happily pay his increased wage if he continues with his scoring form. This was Matic's standout game since his arrival at Chesterfield and he was the complete DM today and capped it off with a goal to seal the result. Like Rodallega, he came for peanuts, Cristoforo and he has quickly become an essential part of the Chesterfield side. Another piece of good news, one of my earliest signings Fedor Smolov rose 84 ->86. Hopefully this will mean that he will feature more in my plans as the season wears on. Next up is table toppers Swindon Town who thumped us 6-1. With this game I would equal Chesterfield's longest serving manager which has been an absolute joy to manage. In reality, I don't think we will get anything from the game but we could always hope.
  12. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 4 Colchester United 2 Chesterfield's brilliant form in the league continued with a resounding 4-2 win over surprise packet Colchester United. In truth, Chesterfield were more dominate, at one point leading 4-0 but Colchester final 20 minutes pulled 2 goals back. Spireites frontman Hugo Rodallega scored a brace, alloting a total of 10 goals this season. Mariga and MOTM Rojo both chimed in with goals to sealed the result. Two red cards marred the game, Colchester Gadzhibekov recklessly slid in a 2 footed tackle while debutant Ekici had a nightmare start to his Chesterfield career by getting sent off. A good result which pushed up to 5th position, my highest position ever since managing Chesterfield. Its been a good week for Chesterfield, wins over Gillingham and Colchester United. Douglao increased which would bolster our back line and that will help us for our push to the play offs Both investments increased so I'm pretty pleased with it . I doubled my investment so after their transfer ban, I will reap the benefits essentially for a little club like mine
  13. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread In a rare bit of transfer news for Chesterfield A dynamite signing and a steal in my eyes. A like for like replacement of Stephen Ireland but a better player and younger, he would fit the mold playing behind the striker or a Xabi Alonso/Pirlo holding role. He has greater technical ability that Ireland and looking at recent things, Ireland seems to be out of the plans of Paul Lambert's Aston Villa, so I think he was bound to drop. Paid $2 million over what I valued him at but if he pays off as a signing, this could be considered a steal.
  14. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Good game mate and good luck in your mission to push Gillingham back to the top. I think it's a rewarding challenge that you undertaken and it took me a little while to appreciate it GILLINGHAM 1 CHESTERFIELD 2 Chesterfield's good form in the league continued with a 2-1 win over Gillingham. When I saw the appointment of xBurrowx I was honestly worried but fortunately we played well enough to take home the points today. We came with an unchanged lineup, the first in my long tenor at the club. Hugo Rodallega (a player who was often criticised for his lack of incision) took one chance and converted it, into a goal in the 24th minute. Great interplay between Ireland and Mariga, resulted in Mariga scoring a long range screamer. Ari pulled one back but we saw out the result. This result gave Chesterfield their 6th unbeaten match and we are pushing hard for a play-off spot. With the close nature of Division 4, we're only 3 points away from 2nd place, so its crucial that we maintain our high standard. Next up is Division 4's surprise packet Colchester United
  15. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 4 Brighton Hove Albion 2 Chesterfield continued their strong run of form with a 4-2 win over Hove Albion. Maestro Torbinsky scored a brace and his accomplice Rodallega chimed in with a goal and two assists while Antonelli sealed the result with a free kick. A momentous achievement beating a side that had the wood on us, but a good win for us. Extends our unbeaten run to 6 matches, lifts up 9th place and 1 point away from the play off spots. ENGLISH CUP ROUND 3: Plymouth 2 Chesterfield 2 (PENS: Plymouth 5 Chesterfield 4) Chesterfield crashed out of the cup, great effort from the young boys. I would like the think that Plymouth manager put in a solid side because he thought there was another cup shock on the cards Since we are out of the cup. Young French Defensive mid Remi Mulumbu 80 is open to offers, if your interested feel free to put in a bid or PM me. Next up is Gillingham
  16. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Cardiff City 0 Chesterfield 1 A relief that we got the three points today, we dominated this match in every aspect (possession, shots at goal and on target) I began to get this feeling this game would be like the Wycombe match last week where we dominated yet only got a point for our troubles. But in dramatic fashion, two of star performers this season (Rodallega and Torbinsky) collaborated to get us the win, with the last kick of the game. Rodallega fed Torbinsky to score and break the stubborn resistance of Cardiff City. In transfer news: Another punt on a japanese player, hopefully he gives me a return. Now I have invested about $2million in risers, hopefully they come off Next up is Plymouth in the cup and Brighton and Hove Albion in the league
  17. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Oldham 0 A great win for Chesterfield, i daresay the best result in the league that I've had since joining 7046. We beat out the third placed Oldham and welcomed back Douglao and Antonelli from injury, we made some significant changes since our dismal draw against Wycombe. Manitias came in for the out of form De Silvestri but it was Hugo Rodallega scored the all important goal in the 17th minute but in truth we should have scored more. As expected Oldham came and attack in waves but Bravo was again very solid and kept a clean sheet This win puts us 3 points away from promotion spots Next up is struggling Cardiff City
  18. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Just made my first blogging post for the Official 7046 Blog, its titled "Financial constraints force Chesterfield to evolve" the links are http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/financial-constraints-force.html I'm the Division 4 reporter for the 7046 and I will do my utmost to cover the "interesting" issues around Division 4. If you are interested in contributing or having an interview, feel free to PM me or contact me on SM through my team, Chesterfield Happy reading
  19. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Wycombe 1 Chesterfield 1 Absolutely gutted at the result today, we dominated this game today yet we could get past Wycombe's keeper extraordinaire Mignolet. We dominated possession 63% - 37%, total shots on goal and on target (25(15) - 12 (9)) yet we both came away with a point. In normal circumstances this would be a good result for us but this Wanderers team was not match fit (or barely) and they struggled throughout this season. Yet we couldn't get a win and I have a feeling that towards the end of the season these results (along with Aldershot's last game) will haunt us in our bid to get promoted. Only 3 of our players showed up in the first XI (Bravo, Torbinsky and Rodallega) and there may be changes to the side ahead of 3rd placed Oldham. Along with that Jeffren Suarez is sidelined for the next 4 weeks with an injury. On the bright side: Invested some of the Kushibiki money into two potential risers. Manoel is another potential Portuguese riser along with Haas and Moreira, a low value and low risk investment with potentially a bit of an upside. While Aussie Anderson has seen a lot of minutes at Mariners so may be in line for a potential "Kushibiki" rise EDIT: After Inferinto's departure from Aston Villa, SM offered me the club but if any forumers are keen on the club, let me know. I feel I have some unfinished business with Chesterfield
  20. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Aldershot 1 A fine point for Chesterfield against a strong Aldershot but it feels like 2 points lost rather than 1 point gained. Good game racky! After a fairly even first half, Chesterfield took the lead through Rodallega in the 35th minute and if it wasn't for the brilliant keeping from Aldershot keeper Ahmanda we could have doubled our lead. The heartbreak was complete when Scheletto equalised in the 86th minute to steal a point. The match was characterised by two brilliant keeping displays and if you offered me a point at the start of the game, I would have taken it. But it does feel like a kick in the teeth to defend so well only for the 3 points to be taken away late on. Unfortunately Antonelli and Garmash (who recently returned from a 3 game suspension) both picked up minor knocks so changes will have to be made before the game against Wycombe Wanderers
  21. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread English Cup Round 2 QPR 1 Chesterfield 3 Chesterfield's history of giant killing in the Cup competition continues with a surprising 3-1 win over QPR. We're hoping to replicate the success of reaching the 4th round of the cup last season but that was a different team last season and I think that today's win was more impressive. A debut were handed to young keeper Sam Walker (as Bravo was cup tied) and he managed to do really well, making an acrobatic save to keep Emanuelson free kick. Chris Averor is quickly becoming a cup specialist scoring again in this match with another long range screaming which left QPR Benaglio grasping at thin air. Jeffren's free kick and Mulumbu's strike gave Chesterfield an unlikely 3-0 lead at the break. However El Arabi's goal and Jeffren's sending off made it a tense final ten minutes but we saw it off to cap a great win. Next up is Aldershot then Wycombe but we have made a brilliant fist of 4 tough fixtures (getting wins in both games previous)
  22. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN Liverpool 1 Stoke City 1 In what was a battle between the established Stoke vs. the new boys Liverpool, Stoke denied the Reds an opportunity to get maximum points in a "smash and grab" performance. Reds defended soundly and captain Reina was on song until the 88th minute where Khacheridi equalised in the dying stages. Fans on Merseyside would be left speechless as the Potters grabbed an unlikely point. Krancjar gave Liverpool the lead but it was all for nothing as Stoke leveled scores. Surprised at our side's early run of good form which sees us in an unlikely 4th place, unfortunately Cambiasso got a straight red and Merieles picked up another knock which may see us test the depth of our midfield resources.
