  1. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread It's been a good end of last week and start to the current week for Chesterfield. The Spireites got their first win of the season, thanks to a 1-0 result against fellow early season strugglers Yeovil Town. Norwegian midfielder Harvard Nordtveit got the winning goal in the 87th minute. A good result for us to stabilize our bad start to the season with a single piece of class, enough to get the result in a tight encounter. Chesterfield progress to the second round of the English Cup thanks to an upset win against Division one side West Brom. The match was 1-1 at the end of regular time with Spanish winger Sergio Canales scoring for the Spireites. Chesterfield managed to win 5-3 on penalties, a first for me. In ratings news: Claudio Bravo 89 -> 90 Our captain got a deserved rise for his excellent keeping at Barcelona. It feels great to stick with Bravo especially since his move from Real Sociedad to Braca and with the added competition of Ter Stegen. He produced his best performance of the season after getting his rise which help us get the three points against Yeovil Town and our first clean sheet of the season. In transfer news: A solid signing at right back, a big thanks to the Exeter City manager for getting a quick deal done. He has gotten 1,000+ minutes playing for Montpelier and here's hoping for a riser at the end of the season. He played well in the cup, adding depth to the right back position especially after the injury to Kevin Vogt which will see him out for 2-3 weeks.
  2. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield fell to our second loss of the season with a 2-1 loss to Exeter City. City's Luiz Adriano and Alexander Meier scored the goals while Spireites Sergio Canales got a goal in reply. Chesterfield have yet to get a win in the new season with two losses and a draw, dropping us into the relegation zone however the losses have been by fine margins (aside from the Aldershot game) but the lack of form of captain Claudio Bravo has me considering whether I should get a loan signing to challenge him. On the transfer front news, A big name departure to our rivals Yeovil Town. Given the competition of Adebayor and Paloschi, our finances couldn't support another top line striker who was getting limited time. An offer of 9 million was too good to pass up and it will keep us in the green for the foreseeable future. I invested a small amount of the Rickie Lambert money on a promising Bruno Gaspar. He has been getting over 1,000 minutes playing for Vitoria and is the starting right back at the club, skies the limit for this promising young lad. He will bolster our squad but he is essentially one for the future.
  3. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread A few ratings changes to report at Chesterfield: Marcos Rojo +1 (89) A big boost to the Spireites defense as he is now our highest rated defender and at the all important center back position, hopefully his 89 rating will be backed up with solid performances in the games. Emmanuel Adebayor - 1 (89) Ade was apart of the Lallana deal and despite his drop, he is still one of the strongest forwards we have at Chesterfield and if he continues scoring and grabbing assists, I certainly won't mind the drop. Angelo Henriquez +1 (84) Big things are expected of the young Chilean striker and a nice rise will help. Wellington Silva + 3 (83) Gunner's Wellington Silva is on loan at Almeria in Spain this season and his increased playing time has resulted in a solid +3 rise. A neat little pick up from external.
  4. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Reading. If you looked at the scoreboard, you may have thought that we were hard done by conceding an 83rd minute goal but if you look at the highlights, the Royals deserved something from the game. Sigurdsson got things started with an excellent goal within the first three minutes but then Reading hit back to draw level. Denys Garmash managed to get us ahead again but then it was French fullback Roussilin who managed to grab a point for Reading. In my opinion, Reading may be one of the darkhorses in the promotion race with stars like Raul Garcia, Johannes Geis and Christopher Kramer. On the ratings front, the recent changes had English midfielder Leon Britton drop to 87 but with every dark cloud came a silver lining with a rise to 89 for Sigurdsson which has made my transfer move to replace Lallana look pretty solid. German winger Karim Bellarabi got his long awaited rise to 88 which will put him in contention for a starting spot this season but will have to contend with the likes of Koo Ja Cheol, Alain Traore and Sergio Canales. We have another tough game coming up against the resurgent Aldershot team, we will see how we fair against a fellow promotion hungry side. This season looks like one of the toughest yet for promotion but it's all to play for!
  5. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield will look to bounce back after a disappointing season, just missing out on the promotion spots however the chairman has reflected my ambitions for the season "The Chairman expects you to mount a serious promotion challenge" In my eyes, the Chairman wants me to finish in the promotion spots which pretty much means a top six finish. But we do have a difficult fixture list to start off the season. [H] - Reading [A] - Aldershot Town [A] - Exeter City [H] - Doncaster Rovers [A] - Yeovil Town We face two promotion hungry sides who both finished in the top half last season within the first six matches (Aldershot Town and Yeovil Town) and a potential banana skin of a game against Reading first up who have improved their squad through risers rather than turning to the transfer market.
  6. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Great job from Dan and Craig for their work on the end of season awards and TOTW respectively. After a Christmas period hiatus, I am back on the forum. I will be posting my end of season awards for Chesterfield soon on the 7046 blog. Just wanted to give an update on the goings-on at Chesterfield during the festive period. A horrible December where the Spireites only managed to get one win in our last seven matches resulted in us missing out on the promotion play-offs all together. It was a gut retching result especially after we were in the top six for most of the season but we didn't get the results when it mattered most and congrats to Hartlepool on their play-off promotion along with automatic promotees, West Ham United and Rotherham United. In terms of coming into the new season, Chesterfield needed to make some changes in order to have another shot at promotion this season. Transfers Out: Given our bulging wage bill, we had to get rid of someone and unfortunately it was Luca Antonelli. He has been a great servant for the club but we do have versatile Fabian Johnson coming in as a solid replacement. Transfers In A nice cheap signing for $2.3 million and he has been doing well in real life playing for Ipswich Town. Smith's signing will give us great depth at central defence and given Harvard Nordtveit's poor run at centre half, Smith's arrival will allow Nordtveit to move into his favoured defensive midfield position. A cheap signing who is looking to rise after playing over 700 minutes for Sporting de Braga in real life. He will give us options at left back after the departure of Antonelli but at a lower wage. Spanish goalkeeper Ortola returns back to Chesterfield and has been won the starting job at goalkeeper in the Barcelona B team, so hopefully a rise is in store and at 680,000, it was a no-brainer to get him back to Chesterfield. Always nice to get a Liverpool player into the squad and he was worth a punt at 40,000 although I am not expecting him to get any minutes in the Liverpool first team, it's a low risk investment. For a lower league side, versatility is crucial and that what Xhaka will give us. His ability to play defensive midfield, right and left fullback will give us a lot of options defensively and since he is getting a lot of minutes at Basel in real life, he's a sound investment. A young riser who plays for relegation threatened Cordoba in real life but a nice investment at $1.1 million.
  7. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 2 Aldershot Town 1 A big win for the Spireites as we got a crucial 2-1 win over promotion chasing Aldershot. I tried 3-5-2 and got the desired result, even more pleasing were the debuts of new boys Gylfi Sigurdsson and Emmanuel Adebayor with Adebayor grabbing the first goal of the match and Sigurdsson playing well in central midfield. Burkina Faso midfielder Alain Traore got the crucial winning goal. The win and Rochdale's loss propels us to 2nd place with West Ham having a six point lead over the trailing pack. Next up is bogey side Gillingham. A big transfer deal for Chesterfield with highly coveted Lallana moving to Bristol City in exchange for Sigurdsson and Adebayor. For me, this deal made a whole lot of sense. While we lose our star player in Lallana, he only produced 3 goals and 3 assists all season and I tried to get the best deal for the team with Lallana's departure. In return, we get Sigurdsson who will be the direct replacement for Lallana, his versatility of playing behind the striker, on either wing and in central midfield will boost our depth and our options. In real life, Sigurdsson is playing incredibly brilliant football with high flying Swansea and if he maintains his stellar form, he may be in line for a rise to 89. While Adebayor gives us something we have been lacking, a goal threat. While Paloschi has done an excellent job, it doesn't hurt to have another goal scorer especially with potential promotion play-off in the future hopefully. A big thanks to John Henry II for the quick and easy deal!
  8. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread English midfielder Adam Lallana is open to offers after a breakdown in transfer discussions. If your still interested, PM me or throw in a bid
  9. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield managed to get a 4-2 win over bottom club Notts County, an expected result but the three points will be important at the end of the day for our promotion run. A brace to Burkina Faso midfielder Alain Traore while Korean midfielder Koo Ja Cheol and Italian striker Alberto We remain one point away from the second automatic promotion place but we will face a tough schedule with Hartlepool United, Aldershot Town, Gillingham and Coventry City, nothing is guaranteed but it will be a great test for the Spireites.
  10. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 3 Norwich 0 Chesterfield continued their sterling run for a promotion spot with a resounding 3-0 win over Norwich City. Good match Rutts. The Spireites were at their clinical best with three goals from four shots on target. In truth, the match was fairly even and if the Canaries keeper played better on the day, we could have been talking about a different result. We made a lightning start with two goals within the first ten minutes through Italian marksmen Alberto Paloschi and Spanish defender Mikel San Jose who converted from the spot after a clumsy challenge in the box, resulted in a penalty. From there, Norwich couldn't recover and we sealed the win, thanks to a Havard Nordtveit goal, his first for Chesterfield. We march onto our next match against a Peterborough side which are mired in the relegation battle. This will prove to be a tough encounter none the less where we haven't ever beaten the Posh during my tenor.
  11. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield's dismal run in the league continued with a dour 0-0 draw with QPR. Good game HannahB! In truth, we should have won this game. Chesterfield had 70% of possession yet we couldn't find a cutting edge in the entire match which is concerning. My tactical shift to include fullbacks Hiroki Sakai and Luca Antonelli backfired and our defence didn't look settled at any point. Our front four (Paloschi, Lallana, Traore and Koo) looked good without troubling the score board however we are coming into a difficult run of fixtures. Sat 8 Nov Division 3 [H] - Norwich City Wed 12 Nov Division 3 [A] - Peterborough United While Norwich are struggling at the moment with a consistent run of form, the Canaries have been known to spring good performances and we will need to be at our best to beat Norwich. While Peterborough have struggled at the edge of the relegation zone but in the last three encounters, we have yet to beat the Posh.
  12. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Talented Uruguayan youngster Diego Laxalt is on sale for $ 6 million. Feel free to pop in a bid
  13. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 0 Shorpe United 0 A dour 0-0 draw pushed Chesterfield down to 4th place after Rotherham's win today. It was a disappointing match where I did expect us to get three points to keep in touch with the top two however we will have it all to do against Rotherham United on the weekend. While we did have a Rickie Lambert goal ruled offside, it was a nothing game from us. We didn't really take it to Shorpe and I think I paid for my tactical tinkering swapping out of sorts Adam Lallana for Sergio Canales who did well against West Ham but failed to emulate his form against the Irons. We will face a tough Rotherham United side who demolished Rochdale today and it will be a potential play-off preview. We finally get Italian striker Alberto Paloschi back after a stupid suspension where he should have been given a one match suspension (i.e. picking up two yellow cards in a game) but instead got a three match suspension. So Paloschi missed two games which he could have made a difference in. I had made my thoughts known to SM unfortunately all they did was note the complaint and subsequently did nothing about the error which is bizarre. If you are "monitoring" a problem, just fix the problem and there would be no further need to monitor the problem any more.
  14. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread West Ham United 2 Chesterfield 3 Chesterfield put a marker down on their promotion hopes with a shock 3-2 win over Division Three leaders West Ham. When I say surprise, I really do mean it. I had to rub my eyes to see if it was real that my little Chesterfield side managed to topple the Claret and Blue of West Ham who have been at the top of the table for as long as I could remember. Good game Niall! A crucial brace by South Korean midfielder Koo Ja Cheol who has been an absolute surprise packet by started every game this season and has produced some of his best form in a Chesterfield shirt. His goals bookended what was to be a remarkable day, English striker Rickie Lambert got the crucial go-ahead goal while Alberto Aqualani and Tomas Rosicky got the goals for West Ham. An superb start to the season sees the Spireites up to second place but we need to consolidate our position from this point on. In regards to Adam Lallana, I have received a large amount of interest for the English starlet officially (bids) and unofficially (PMs) however I am going to take my time with all the offers and give them their due respect but I will only be selling if there is an offer to my liking but discussions are ongoing.
  15. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield are open to offers for English midfielder Adam Lallana. If your interested, feel free to put in a bid or PM me =)
  16. Re: Bundesliga Ratings Discussion I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the potential rating rise of Bayer Leverkusen winger Karim Bellarabi? As in how much, he would rise in rating
  17. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield squeaked past Blackpool with a 1-0 win. To be honest, if not for the performance of captain and keeper Claudio Bravo being insurmountable, I think Blackpool deserved something from the game. Burkina Faso midfielder Alain Traore managed to continue his impressive goal scoring form with four goals in his last five game, he scored the match winning goal in the opening four minutes and it was enough for three points and our fourth consecutive league win. With our good form, we are within touching distance from second placed Rotherham United with only one point separating second and third place. Next up a tricky encounter against Colchester United
  18. Re: English Championship 28697 Discussion Thread I'm glad the chairman had the same ambitious as me, after an excellent season for Doncaster (or quarter of a season for me) the Rovers are looking to back it up with my first full season in charge of the club. In a somewhat uncharacteristic move, I have spent big in an attempt to get promotion this season. I sold our defensive stalwart Joesph Yobo and opted for a big name signing in Adil Rami. On paper, Rami is three rating points higher than Yobo and is only 5 million more than Yobo's sell on price. But I am hopeful that Rami can justify his record breaking price tag. I've had my eye on Kiyotake for quite a while and he can play anywhere across the front three, he will provide much needed creativity but will have to make up the eight goals and seven assists that Aspas had last season.
  19. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread I managed to get an article out today, a match report on our most recent win over Plymouth Argyle. Hope you enjoy it =) http://ec7046blog.wordpress.com/2014/09/29/clinical-spireites-fire-three-past-pilgrims/
  20. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread GILLINGHAM SAVE THEMSELVES FROM THE RELEGATION DROP TO STAY IN DIVISION TWO! Gillingham registered a resounding 3-0 win over final relegated side Notts County, goals to captain and MOTM Barzagli and young Spaniards Asensio and Rodrigo. A fine performance where all we needed was a point to secure our division Two status, I was very pleased about the result. The Gills finished in 19th place. After taking over from a side that was unfit, in debt and in the bottom three (mostly in last spot), I made a few necessary moves in the transfer market (permanently and on loan) in order to firm up the squad and despite having three to four squad members out during my tenor, we still managed to finish the season as the form side of the final rounds (16 points from a possible 18, 5 wins in the last 6 matches) Looking back, securing the Division Two status of Gillingham while adjusting to three games a week is among my greatest achievements in SM. Glad to have joined the setup and I am looking forward to the next season. Gillingham will be open to offers for Captain Barzagli, Diego and Kana Biyik, if you are interested, feel free to put in a bid or PM me
  21. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread Gillingham produced another stellar performance with a 2-1 win over upper midtable side Barnsley. Goals to Ivanschitz and Gonzalo Jara were enough to pull off another unexpected victory with four wins in our last five matches, we now sit in 19th place which is three points away from the relegation drop zone. When I took over the club, the Gills were severely lacking depth in the club with a plethora of talents young untested strikers and unless I played four up front (which I was very unlikely to do), I think that the additions of versatile players Gonazalo Jara and Craig Forsyth has boosted our ranks and has given me more options in the midfield and at the back. However it seems that I have put the curse on Craig Forsyth who just picked up a six week injury so I won't see him in the foreseeable future but he played well eventhough he picked up an injury. A special mention must be given to loan signings of Gardos, Bubnjic and Abella who have added quality and depth to our side and who knows, I may want to enquire about their services again next season. The objective for the final game of the season against relegation threatened Notts County is not to lose (either win or get a draw) will be enough for us to stay up in Division Two but the good thing is that we are in control of our own destiny.
