  2. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread [ Chesterfield made another transfer with the signing of English striker Rickie Lambert http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/veteran-striker-rickie-lambert-seals_14.html
  3. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Finally finished my article on our final day heroics from relegation. It's a bit long but I hope you enjoy it! The new layout for the blog looks great http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.se/2014/03/rodrigo-strike-saves-chesterfield-from_10.html
  4. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread In even more pleasing news, Chesterfield sealed a transfer Really happy with the deal, I know that Lambert is a bit older and $6 million might be a high price but I think for Preston's leading striker with 15 goals in Division Two but if he can reproduce his form for Chesterfield, he will be well worth the price tag. His ability to take penalties and free kicks will be another bonus
  5. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Wolverhampton 0 Chesterfield 1 Manager Glory Days celebrates after the final whistle Chesterfield pulled off a Houdini act on the final day by saving ourselves from relegation. It's a exhilarating feeling after a dour, disappointing season and it give me a much needed boost for the next season. Coming into the match we were clear underdogs with a superior Wolves side but my team came out playing with no fear and full of determination. It was a tense match throughout but I thought we were the better team going into half time but it stay level. It wasn't until new signing Pablo Hernandez skinned a defender and put in a lovely cross which was put away brilliantly by Spanish starlet Rodrigo. When the final whistle sounded, it was a feeling of relief and I can't wait for next season. I wanted another season with the Spireites as I have something to prove that we can make it in Division Three and turned down the Barnsley offer, congrats to Craig for getting the job.
  6. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread In a similar vein to Barnsley, Chesterfield completed the capture of Spanish winger Pablo Hernandez http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/chesterfield-complete-record-signing-of_21.html
  7. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Rotherham 5 Chesterfield 3 An absolute defensive horror show for Chesterfield as Rotherham ran riot at home. Three goals in the first 20 minutes against us, killed the game for us. However on a positive note, Rodrigo grabbed a brace for his troubles but Paloschi's goal-less drought has gone to 12 matches. With only 42 points, this may not assure me of safety. With the closest relegation battle in recent memory, anyone can still be relegated with the bottom three at the moment being Wolves (38 pts) Dagenham (36) and Bournemouth (34) However Rochdale(38), Shorpe (41), Chesterfield (42), Birmingham (44), Southampton (45), Northampton (45) and QPR (45) still are in very real danger of being relegated. What we need to do is win our six pointers, starting against Bournemouth on the weekend but I won't be surprised if the final three at the moment don't get relegated this season.
  8. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Big thanks to rutts66 for the deal and I snare a very talented 89 rated winger/playmaker for $8.5 million. He has impressed me in real life while he has been with Swansea and I'm delighted to grab him with a view to replace the departed Sulejmani A great rise for Rodrigo and now he is our highest rated forward now, hopefully he can grab a few goals towards the end of the season
  9. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Southampton 0 Chesterfield 3 A masterclass by Chesterfield with a dominant 3-0 win over the Saints. A huge win in a relegation six pointer, the Spireites blew away Southampton with goals to San Jose, Leon Britton and Miraleum Sulejmani. The result comes as a welcome relief for us and we're just three points away from safety. Next up is Brighton and Hove Albion
  10. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Congrats Richard' date=' it was a very dominant 1-0 display from Northampton. We didn't stand a chance when our first effort on goal was in the 46th minute and we only had three chances at goal in the entire match. Things have gone from bad to worse with Chesterfield only 7 points away from the relegation drop zone with 8 games to go. Next up is a relegation six pointer against Southampton, so a huge game for our Division Three survival. In rare transfer news A loyal Chesterfield servant since the start of my reign has departed to Oldham. The offer was a fair amount and he is a consistent performer so I think Oldham is getting a good deal as well. Another young fullback comes to bolster of defense. I'm surprised that I got him unopposed, of course I'm not complaining but he is getting 1000+ minutes at Heereveen, so he is destined for a rise.
  11. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 2 Ipswich 2 Chesterfield got a solid point against better opposition but the highlight of the game was the sending off of Lars Bender. Sulejmani and Henriquez grabbed the goals while Theo Walcott got a brace. Wonderkid Angelo Henriquez grabbed his first ever goal for Chesterfield and it was encouraging to see the young kid show some of his potential spark. We have steadied the ship after four consecutive losses countering that with a win over Reading and a draw here, hopefully we can keep it up. Priority is still avoiding relegation
  12. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread In reply to sirmarkhughes post about Chesterfield's struggles, pressure is heaped on manager Glory Days Clouds looming over manager Glory Days http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/clouds-looming-over-manager-glory-days_22.html
  13. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN It's been a good week so far for the Reds, Liverpool are top by a point, thanks to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa and we have qualified for the English Cup Final against Stoke City. But with 4 omissions with 2 suspensions (Robin Van Persie, Pablo Zabaleta) and 2 injuries (Gotoku Sakai and Victor Moses) changes will be needed coming up against my old side Leeds United
  14. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread My first post on a blog for ages but good to be back Marcos Rojo set to return http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/marcos-rojo-set-for-return_15.html
  15. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread Arriving with one game from the bottom three drop zone, our intent was clear, either get an upset win over the promoted Peterborough or not to lose too badly and hope that other results fell our way. Despite our 1-0 loss to the Posh, Ipswich lost 2-0 and Hartlepool drew 2-2 which was enough for the Whites to survive by the skins of our teeth, by goal difference. My first job is to ensure that we aren't in that position again next season and I will evaluate the squad in due time but there are so many positions that are up for grabs in the first XI. Young Frank Tabanou was my first transfer with a versatility to play left back, left wingback and left mid but there is an exciting period ahead for Leeds with great financial stability and I may add a few names to the squad but the preseason will be important for all
  16. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 0 Leicester City 2 A Joaquin brace sunk the Spireites to a 2-0 loss against Leicester. It was a relatively even game but Leicester simply took their chances and we didn't, in terms of statistics: possession, shots on goal and shots on target were relatively even but in terms of player performance, San Jose had a terrible game but the team as a whole wasn't good enough. Time to move forward, next up is bogey side Birmingham
  17. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 4 Rotherham 0 Chesterfield continued their good form with our second win on the trot, dismantling Rotherham 4 - 0. Mercurial Mehmet Ekci got the MOTM by grabbing one goal and three assists, Italian Alberto Paloschi is experiencing a purple patch, getting a goal. Argentine Marcos Rojo grabbed a rare goal and Leon Britton sealed the result. What made me more proud of the result was that our make shift side who was without Adam Lallana and Koo Ja Cheol. We put Ekici on the left and shifted Sulejmani on the right with Garmash returning into the starting line up in the middle of the park. Our make shift side grabbed an important result and keeps us in the hunt for a promotion spot Another piece of pleasing news was the rating increase of Kevin Vogt and Koo Ja Cheol's position change which makes him even more versatile, being able to play in the centre of midfield. Kevin Vogt 84 -> 85 I'm pleased that Vogt had risen as he is getting more time at Augsburg and now he grabbed a deserved rise. He joins a growing contigent of rising, young central midfielders with Felix Kroos (85), Alfred Duncan (85) and Sergio Oliveria (83) all under the age of 23 Nice prediction Longnose
  18. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Brighton and Hove Albion 1 Chesterfield 3 Chesterfield finally got over their terrible league form with a sound 3-1 win over high flying Brighton and Hove Albion. The match was fairly close but I thought that we had the ascendency during the feisty 60 minute period before Rodrigo leaped to give Chesterfield the lead with a solid header. Miraleum Sulejmani, another fringe player provided his best performance to date. The Serbian play maker provided an intelligent run on and curling finish to give the Spireites a two goal lead and Italian striker Alberto Paloschi sealed the three points with a lovely finish, peeling off his marker and finishing aplomb. Brighton pulled one back through Montero, three minutes from but it was just a consolation. Another pleasing note for Chesterfield was the rises of Hiroki Sakai and Felix Kroos Hiroki Sakai 85 -> 87 A very nice rise for the Japanese fullback who has played every minute for Hannover since the start of the season. He looks to be in contention for a genuine first team spot in the near future Felix Kroos 82 -> 85 Excellent investment for me after spending only $1.4 million, he's now worth about $4.5 million! But not only that he definitely will improve our side's depth in the centre of the park but hopefully he will continue to rise
  19. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Swindon Town 0 Chesterfield 1 Chesterfield got a tough 1-0 win over Swindon Town. We didn't play very well at all today but we got the result thanks to a great finish from league leading goal scorer Alberto Paloschi who should have had two only for his chance to chalked off due to an offside. But the positives were that we kept a clean sheet (two in a row) which is the first time we have done it this season. Hopefully we can pick up our performance against Reading.
  20. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 4 Shorpe United 0 A fine bounce back win for Chesterfield after we lost to Birmingham City. Spireites put 4 past the Irons and kept a clean sheet, probably the best possible result for us. Italian striker Alberto Paloschi grabbed a double, Leon Britton grabbed on but it was returning Turkish Mehmet Ekici who grabbed a goal and an assist along with the man of the match and a 10 rating, our first! A strong debut for Rodrigo in replacing Sulejmani and he impressed with an assist. Next up is promotion chasing Barnsley who are in a bit of a rough patch but won't be any easier
  21. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread I agree with the lack of interest in older players and that they can just be as useful as their younger team mates. In my team's case, we bought Hugo Rodallega with no contest from an external and no one really fancied him but came in with great value for $4.1 million. He managed to score 26 goals in 40 games over 2 seasons but we had to sell him as a result of balancing the books. But its always intriguing when a team buys an older player to see what kind of impact he can have
  22. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield is willing to listen to offers for Miraleum Sulejmani 24 W/F 88 Feel free to PM me or put in an offer!
  23. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN Preston North End 1 Liverpool 2 A new look Liverpool managed to grab a win on opening day. It was a dogged match with PNE and we are glad to get away with the three points. Although there were numerous changes to the Reds, it was ironically the old boys who did the job, Robin Van Persie and Giuseppe Rossi grabbed the two goals. Liverpool gave debuts to Aaron Lennon, Kevin Stootman and Oliver Sorg came off the bench with his first appearance after two loan spells at Tranmere Rovers and Leyton Orient. A good start for us but we need to build on this
  24. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 4 QPR 3 A exciting seven goal game resulted in Chesterfield grabbing their first win of the season against familiar foes, Queens Park Rangers. In a game that had everything: goals, penalties and a red card, the Spireites pulled off an unlikely result. After Chesterfield took the lead after 10 minutes through forgotten man Leon Britton, QPR's Boussoufa struck back half an hour in. We would regain the lead through our up front striker Alberto Paloschi in the 36th minute but things would get shaky after a rash tackle by Turkish creator Mehmet Ekici result in him getting a straight red and for us to be playing with 10 men for 51 minutes. QPR struck back through El Arabi and looked to have the ascendency then a clumsy challenge by the Ranger's Lombarets resulted in a Chesterfield penalty which centre back Mikel San Jose dispatched easily. 3-2 Chesterfield looked to have sealed it through Paloschi with a dead ball special on 78th minute but El Arabi would keep things interesting grabbing a goal two minutes later. 4-3 A sensational last ditch save from captain Claudio Bravo prevented a Boussoufa to equalise but we did our all to get the three points! Although we lose Ekici to a stupid challenge, we should have enough depth to cover his loss. Next up is Dagenham who got a credible draw against Barnsley
