  1. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 4 QPR 3 A exciting seven goal game resulted in Chesterfield grabbing their first win of the season against familiar foes, Queens Park Rangers. In a game that had everything: goals, penalties and a red card, the Spireites pulled off an unlikely result. After Chesterfield took the lead after 10 minutes through forgotten man Leon Britton, QPR's Boussoufa struck back half an hour in. We would regain the lead through our up front striker Alberto Paloschi in the 36th minute but things would get shaky after a rash tackle by Turkish creator Mehmet Ekici result in him getting a straight red and for us to be playing with 10 men for 51 minutes. QPR struck back through El Arabi and looked to have the ascendency then a clumsy challenge by the Ranger's Lombarets resulted in a Chesterfield penalty which centre back Mikel San Jose dispatched easily. 3-2 Chesterfield looked to have sealed it through Paloschi with a dead ball special on 78th minute but El Arabi would keep things interesting grabbing a goal two minutes later. 4-3 A sensational last ditch save from captain Claudio Bravo prevented a Boussoufa to equalise but we did our all to get the three points! Although we lose Ekici to a stupid challenge, we should have enough depth to cover his loss. Next up is Dagenham who got a credible draw against Barnsley
  2. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield's recent transfer activity has been reported on the 7046 blog, feel free to have a read if your interested Spireites adding some exciting youngsters to the ranks http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/spireites-add-exciting-youngsters.html Chesterfield's dynamite deal for Rodrigo http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/chesterfield-pulls-off-transfer-coup.html
  3. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Dynamite news to report from Chesterfield Absolutely ecstatic with grabbing Rodrigo! A big thanks to Northampton Town Abdur and I feel like the Spireites have found the missing piece of the puzzle. Rodrigo will be in direct competition with 15 goal Alberto Paloschi and it will give us more variety up front and give us more flexibility with tactics. So chuffed at the moment!
  4. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread A bit of transfer news for Chesterfield Better known as the little brother of Toni Kroos but he is getting a bit of game time at Werder Bremen in real life but since the departure of Jack Cork, he would provide us more depth in the central midfield A highly rated central defender from La Masia but seems that he will bide his team in Barcelona B but is getting game time. He will probably replace the departed Christopher Avevor
  5. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN Liverpool have undergone a serious revamp after a disappointing 8th placed finish this season. Reds manager Glory Days found it necessary to 'freshen up' the squad following his comments of complacency and being 'too comfortable'. In the off season, the Reds bid farewell to Raul Meireles, Kevin Theophile Catherine, Thomas Kraft, Oleg Shatov, Albin Ekdal, Anders Guardado and Julian Schieber. However the incoming included Laurent Koscienly, Kevin Strootman, Benat and Aaron Lennon. Koscienly 28, will give the Reds central defense some necessary steel and vigor. He is delighted to work under his Glory Days who he previously played for at Leeds United. Strootman and Benat will give some added class and toughness, along with competition for the limited central midfield spots Lennon gives Liverpool a truly pacy winger who will hope to nail down the right flank position however he will face some competition against Salvio and Piatti
  6. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Hahaha now I fully expect you to challenge for promotion
  7. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield made a brilliant signing A big thanks to the Northampton manager in making this deal happen. Henriquez has been getting a fair amount of time in the Spanish Second Divison with Real Zargagoza and he has impressed. In terms of Chesterfield, he will give us more depth in at striker after last season where we only had two legitimate strikers in Paloschi and Smolov but he is a future prospect in the forward line
  8. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN Another pleasing addition of Kevin Strootman to Liverpool and will give our midfield some necessary steel in our midfield while Shatov and Ekdal move in the opposite direction. Liverpool have revamped the central midfield with Javi Martinez, Sami Khedira, Pirmin Schwegeler, Benat and now Strootman
  9. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN The rebuild at Liverpool continues with Benat and Koscienly joining the Reds with Theophile Catherine, Thomas Kraft and Miereles departing. We want to strengthen after a season of mediocrity finishing 8th place but grabbing the English Cup. The goal is to be competitive in all three competitions
  10. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Barnsley 3 Chesterfield 1 Chesterfield's season comes to an end with a loss to Barnsley. Although we didn't have the best game, it was a well deserved win for steve. We pulled back one goal but it wasn't to be, as they played better than we did. I'm backing Barnsley to promoted in the final but it caps off a remarkable season for us and it will be some feat for us to repeat it. Well done Steve, well deserved win and I'm backing you to win promotion
  11. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 4 Southampton 3 A final day thriller with 7 goals raining down on Proact Stadium, luckily we were on the right end of it. It seemed like every shot on goal in the first half resulted in a goal. I have to give great credit to my lads who were down 2-0 after 15 minutes but were leading 3-2 by half time with goals to Cork, Fabian Johnson and Lallana. However the keepers went to work in the second half but MOTM Jack Cork sealed the result but young Xhaka replied to make the last stage of the match interesting. The game saw a number of changes with one eye on the play-offs with Hiroki Sakai, Kevin Vogt, Luca Antonelli, Alfred Duncan, Koo Ja Cheol, Jack Cork and Fedor Smolov coming into the starting XI and they put their best foot forward with some sterling performances. We finished at 5th which is a stellar result after many tipped us to be battling for relegation. Next up will be an enthralling encounter against Barnsley in the Play Offs
  12. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Bournemouth 0 Chesterfield 3 Chesterfield sealed their play-off status with a 3-0 win in the crunch game against AFC Bournemouth. Good game jharman! In what was a very important fixture, a win for Chesterfield and a loss to QPR would have been the best possible result for us and Stephen did us a favour by grabbing a win and we had to do the rest. The dynamic duo Miraleum Sulejmani and Alberto Paloschi provided the inspiration with the Serbian playmaker grabbing a brace while Paloschi scored in between him and gave us a comfortable result. What was more pleasing was we kept a clean sheet and MOTM San Jose was pivotal in keeping it that way. It's a welcome relief to secure our promotion status and now we can prepare for the play-off race Next up is Plymouth Argyle
  13. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Hull City 1 Chesterfield grind out another draw against relegation threatened Hull City. A solid point however I was hoping for more in the game. With Tranmere Rovers losing and QPR having an outside chance of getting into the play-offs, we are in pole position to cement a spot when we go to Bournemouth. Made a few tactical changes with Koo preferred over the not match fit San Jose but I'm pleased that we got out of the Hull game unscathed. Next up is a blockbuster match against Bournemouth
  14. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Derby County 3 Chesterfield 0 As dominate as the score suggested, Derby County deserved the win and Chesterfield were never in this game. Outplayed and outclassed, a bit of bad management by rushing San Jose too early which will probably result in him not being able to play in a vital match against Hull City. Poli, Wilshere and Sturridge rounded off an excellent display, we need to move on from the result and concentrate our efforts against Hull City. We drop to 6th with 6 point gap between us and Bournemouth however we need a good result in order to ensure a play off position. Next up Hull City
  15. Re: English Championship 7046 Match Report/Tranfer Gossip Thread Trio of defensive reinforcements poise Chesterfield for playoff run Viva La Vida: versatile Croatian International Domagoj Vida provides a much needed boost to Chesterfield with their recent injury list Chesterfield made a triple swoop for Fabian Johnson, Hiroki Sakai and Domagoj Vida bolstering the Spireites defensive ranks while reinforcing their hopes of a play-off position. Manager Glory Days has done a splendid job to fill the void left by Lorenzo De Silvestri and Matthias Ostrozolek, the management sought to not only improve on the first XI but enhance the team’s depth as well. Fullback Fabian Johnson, 26 arrived from Notts County for 6.5 million. The American international was frozen out after a change of management at his previous club However Johnson spoke of his delight in signing with a new club Another addition was young Japanese fullback Hiroki Sakai, 23 who moved from Division Three rivals Barnsley for $5.5 million. Like many of Glory Days signings, Sakai is very versatile with his primary position being right fullback but he is fully capable of playing as a left back, right wing back or on the right wing. Sakai 23, spoke of his enthusiasm in joining Chesterfield The final addition made was Croatian international Domagoj Vida, 24 who joins from Division Three rivals Birmingham City for $6 million. Known for his ability to adapt to multiple positions, Chesterfield’s need for another central defender with Vladmidir Granant injured for the remainder of the season and San Jose not being match fit, Vida looks like an ideal signing. Mainly used as a substitute at Birmingham City, Vida sought another team to try to break into the first XI With subsequent additions, Chesterfield looks to be making a strong push for promotion this season.
  16. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Delighted with the capture of the Croatian International, my subsequent sale of Ostrozolek who was 85 and I got a 87 in exchange for the cash. Many thanks for Veigas who made a quick and easy deal. Vida's versatility being able to play at centre back, right back and defensive midfield will help our cause, he may be in line for his first start in our next match
  17. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0 A record crowd watched Chesterfield narrowly beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 thanks to a timely finish from Koo Ja Cheol. In essence the game was Chesterfield dominated possession yet Sheffield Wednesday had more chances at goal. The first half our goal was under siege but MOTM captain Claudio Bravo kept every shot at bay and preserved a clean sheet. Bravo was a colossus and was making save after save but they just couldn't get past him. A deep cross by Lallana was brought down by Koo who got away from his marker and applied a clinical finish. This crucial win puts us in pole position to cement a play-off promotion spot and will help buffer a potential bad result against league leaders Derby County. The result was made all the more impressive with 3 omissions due to injury which allowed Koo, Lallana and young Vogt to step up. Koo was the stand out but Lallana who supplied the game winning assist and Vogt who help his own against a strong attack held his own as well. In even more positive news, Sulejmani and Fabian Johnson will return back to the side and would be in the running for selection in the first XI His departure will pave the way for another transfer who will be coming in the near future but Ostrozolek has played a bit-part role and done it well and to sell him 6.2 million after grabbing him for 1.2 million was a great bit of business for Chesterfield Next up Derby County
  18. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Northampton Town 2 Chesterfield 1 Chesterfield suffer 2 consecutive losses and at the hands of promotion chasing Northampton Town. Although we took the shock lead in the 22nd minute through Mehmet Ekici which was against the run of play However after Sulejmani's sending off, Northampton dominated the game and created all the chances. It must be a comfort to bring on the likes of Veratti, Lukkaku and Kolarov from off the bench and they overran us with Paulinho clinched the three points with a 84th minute strike. Like Barnsley, we are up against it with three ommissions as a result of today's game along with Granat's season ending injury: Granat - injured (out for the season) San Jose - injured Fabian Johnson - injured Sulejmani - suspended But on the bright side, Garmash returns back from suspension however it will still be a big ask against Sheffield Wednesday
  19. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 2 Crystal Palace 4 Chesterfield's 10 game unbeaten run ended with a resounding 4-2 loss to Crystal Palace. In what was dubbed a 'crucial' fixture for both clubs, although Chesterfield's set the early tone with a 4th minute goal, Palace struck back and over ran us in at the end. Alberto Paloschi picked up a brace and although we played well, Palace played even better and congrats to Dazinho as they got the deserved win. We will be up against it with our next five fixtures [A] Northampton Town (3rd): a tough fixture despite the fact that we pulled off an upset last time, I doubt we will be getting anything away from home. [H] Sheffield Wednesday (20th): the bottom of the table side however with possible relegation looming sides like this will be determined to get themselves out of a hole. [A] Derby County (1st): league leaders will provide a stern test for us with play offs looming but not looking forward to this fixture [H] Hull City (18th): a team that have had a disappointing season but they have a good side and are capable of doing better [A] AFC Bournemouth (6th): play-off dress rehearsal but we could be out of the play off zone by then so we need to ensure that we have secured a play off position by then Although we lose Garmash to suspension, we get back Antonelli who returns from suspension Next up is Northampton Town
  20. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Reading 0 Chesterfield 3 Chesterfield's unbeaten run stretches to 10 matches with a dominant 3-0 display against Reading. The game was shaped by Sobiech's red card but we were good enough on the day to take our chances and get a valuable three points. Man of the match Alberto Paloschi was a constant menace to the Reading defence and they had no answer to him. Our Italian spearhead gave us the lead in 32nd minute thanks to a firm header. Reading looked to have equalised through Benteke but was denied by the linesman. After Sobiech's sending off, Chesterfield took the ascendancy through Miraleum Sulejmani strike in the 68th minute and then sealed the result late on with a Jack Cork header in the 87th minute. A game of firsts, Jack Cork's first goal for the club and Fabian Johnson made his first appearance for Chesterfield, coming off the bench. Next up is a massive game against Crystal Palace
  21. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Cheers craig, I will try to do my part and continue to churn out articles. But don't strain yourself with the blog
  22. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Had a long hiatus from blogging article but finally got one out Garmash sending off sours Spireites reaching magical 40 point mark (http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.com.au/)
  23. Re: English Championship 7046 Match Report/Tranfer Gossip Thread Garmash sending off sours Spireites reaching magical 40 point mark Chesterfield manager Glory Days thanks the fans for their continued support For any newly promoted side, their ultimate goal is to consolidate their status in their respective division. This was no different for Chesterfield who have surprised everyone by securing promotion through the Division Four play-offs against a much more fancied Rotherham United. Tipped by some pundits to be facing the drop, the Derbyshire club has sprung another surprise by attaining the magical forty points mark in record time (within 24 games). Although forty points doesn’t guarantee safety from relegation, it does serve as an indicator on how well the side is doing. Manager Glory Days has done wonders with a side on a very limited budget, reinventing Chesterfield through transfers and player development. Their financial constraints meant that Chesterfield had to sell before they could buy, offloading two of their most pivotal players in their promotion, Hugo Rodallega and Dmitri Torbinsky. However Glory Days has done well to consolidate by replacing them with Serbian playmaker Miraleum Sulejmani purchased from fellow Division Three rivals Plymouth Argyle and promoting Alberto Paloschi into the starting XI. Subsequent signings of Mikel San Jose and Jack Cork suggest that Glory Days has designs on staying in Division Three beyond this season. The ongoing development of Mehmet Ekici continues to impress in only his second season with the Spireites, he has emerged as a quintessential cog in the Chesterfield machine providing seven assists and 9 goals, none of which were more important than his solidarity goal being the ultimate difference between the two promoted sides, despite Denys Garmash’s 79th minute red card. Swindon Town and Chesterfield serve as an interesting comparison of differing playing philosophies, Swindon Town earned their Division Four title by playing scintillating attacking football often at times looking like a big fish in a little pond however when they came up to Division three, their defensive deficiencies were exposed and their over reliance on big front man Artjoms Rudnevs who was the Division’s golden boot winner with 25 goals proved to be their downfall as the Robins sitting in the relegation zone. In contrast, Chesterfield concentrate on possession, movement and defensive solidarity. Manager Glory Days system isn’t dependent on a single goal scorer and it’s quite normal for the midfield cohort to chip in with goals on a regular basis. Simply a ‘cog in a machine’ as it were and ingrained with the philosophy of “next man up” , their team isn’t dependent on any outstanding individual but a strong squad of players. With 40 points attained, the next goal should be to guarantee their Division Three status.
  24. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Cheers mate I expect to see you in the play offs this season:D
  25. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Pleased as punch getting this deal done! Many thanks to Stephen Thompson for getting the deal done so quickly. He was a player that I had sought after for a long time and to get him for $5.5 million, I think is a bargain. He has been playing regularly for Hannover and I think that he has earned a first team spot, so he could be in line for at least a 86 to 87 rise. Since the departure of De Silvestri to West Ham, we have got Fabian Johnson from Notts County, Luca Antonelli has risen to 88, we already had Manitias as the incumbent right fullback and now we have sealed a great young prospect in Sakai! I think we have become stronger since De Silvestri's departure and I'm excited at the little club that I am building!
