  1. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Hull City 1 Chesterfield 3 A virtuoso display by Chesterfield new boy Miraleum Sulejmani helped the Spireites an unlikely win over the Tigers at KC Stadium. Very pleased with our display as we demonstrated our good form from last game but got away with the win today. Italian striker Alberto Paloschi returned back into the starting XI ahead of Fedor Smolov and made up for lost time by grabbing a double. Man of the match Suejmani was the architect of Paloschi's goals and he grabbed the third goal to seal the game. It was the Serbian international's best performance since his surprise signing for us. On another piece of good news Quite a snare for our little club, he recently signed to the Barcelona B side from Villarreal. If he's good enough for one of the best youth setups in the world, then he is good enough for the Spireites. Next up is AFC Bournemouth
  2. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 2 Derby County 3 Chesterfield gave a good account of themselves against Derby but it wasn't enough as they ran out 3-2 winners. We did everything in our power to make it very difficult for the Rams to get the win but they showed their class and completed their comeback. Chesterfield new boy Miraleum Sulejmani grabbed a brace and proved to be another source of goals which is a welcome relief as our leading goalscorer in the midfield is the injured Mehmet Ekici. Douglao returned to the starting line up and the expense of Karim Ait Fana. We played pretty well but we just didn't get the result, if we play like that for the rest of the season, I will be pleased. Next up is a tough Hull City
  3. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Sheffield Wednesday 1 Chesterfield 0 Our consistent inconsistency continues at Chesterfield with a 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday. I was hoping for a better performance from my side but we just weren't clinical enough on the day and to make matters worse Mehmet Ekici picked up a pulled calf muscle and will be out for 3 weeks. I suppose it will give my other fringe players an opportunity to make a claim for a first team spot. In brighter news, Douglao will return from suspension so hopefully that will help a great deal against a very difficult Derby County next game Next up is Derby County
  4. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 2 Northampton Town 0 Spireites spring the shock of the round by beating 3rd placed Northampton Town 2-0 at Proact Stadium. Versatile midfielder Denys Garmash and Mehmet Ekici grabbed the goals and the points today in an unexpected upset. Really surprised with the result, thought that when we were 1-0 up, Northampton would typically level things up and go over the top of us but today it wasn't the case. Captain Claudio Bravo was a man mountain today whilst Sulejmani and Ait Fana caused Paulinho all sorts of problems which eventually saw the Northampton Town captain to be sent off. I thought our team really stood up and were counted today! In even better news, Myhalyk returns from injury but young Averor played superbly in his stead. Next up is Sheffield Wednesday
  5. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Crystal Palace 1 Chesterfield 0 Not a surprising result as Palace had a better side and outplayed us on the day, I was surprised that the margin of the loss as it should have been more. Everyone played well especially Captain Bravo but Palace were brilliant on the day. Due to an injury to Myhalyk and 3 game suspension of Douglao, young German centre half Christopher Averor who famously filled in for the missing duo in the play off final last season played pretty well. Sulejmani is given an opportunity to show what he can do and Smolov's late, late winner last game has given him an opportunity in the starting XI. Britton picked up a minor knock and will be out for 7 days. Chesterfield have a tough run of 5 matches coming up and with our mounting injuries/suspensions, we will be up against it. Next up is 3rd placed Northampton Town
  6. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Reading 0 Chesterfield are out of a rut thanks to Fedor Smolov's late, late winner in the 89th minute to help us grab an unlikely three points. Going into the match, I wasn't expecting anything from the game but was ecstatic at the result although I was in a state of disbelief This was at 0-0 From agony that our chance at winning had gone from the disallowed goal to ecstasy of grabbing a win with the final kick of the game! Unfortunately we will be missing Douglao for 3 matches due to his red card in the 81st minute and Mykhalyk who picked up the MOTM for at least 2 matches. Our backline will need a reshuffle but things are looking up! Next up is Crystal Palace
  7. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 QPR 1 Much of the same as the last match, we had a lot more of possession and created more of the chances at goal but QPR's keeper Benaglio denied us with same brilliant saves. Chesterfield grabbed the early lead through Karim Ait Fana who is having a brilliant start at attacking mid. Our lead was short lived thanks to Abou Diaby's equaliser in the 49th minute. Towards the end of the game, we looked the more likely team but it wasn't to be, we need more incision to get the points but signs are looking good at the moment. Next up is table toppers Northampton in the cup then Birmingham in the league
  8. Re: English Championship 7046 Match Report/Tranfer Gossip Thread Spireites Special: a fan’s perspective Colossus Ryzhikov kept Chesterfield at bay to share the points Tranmere Rovers 0 Chesterfield 0 Tranmere Rover's keeper Sergery Ryzhikov saves another shot from Chesterfield Coming into matchday eight, Chesterfield suffered two successive losses (one against Barnsley and the other against the giants Chelsea) and although they were decent performances, we needed to pick up our game against Tranmere Rovers. Marcos Rojo came in for Adam Lallana and Luca Antonelli was given an opportunity ahead of an injured Lorenzo De Silvestri. The Rovers and the Spireites were familiar foes as they were Division four opponents two seasons ago. Prior to this encounter, the Rovers had adequately dealt with Chesterfield handing us two successive losses (3-0 (home) and 1-0 (away) respectively) however this was a very different outfit then the direction less side who had finished 13th and 17th respectively, this is a well drilled side that had worked their way from cellar dweller to being promoted. This match would serve as a test to see how far we had come since our previous Division four encounters and oh my how far we have come! Despite the equal share of possession, Chesterfield made the most of ours by carving out some intriguing attacks on goal. I must make note of Ait Fana’s stand out performance in a Spireite jersey providing 5-6 goal scoring opportunities however it was the colossus Ryzhikov who denied us time and time again. It came to the point where we concluded that it just wasn’t going to be our day and Tranmere keeper Ryzhikov deservedly got the man of the match honours. Despite the result, I was happy with the side we created some nice moves but all it lacked was the clinical finish but with Ryzhikov being in the zone, we didn’t stand a chance. More of the same in the next game should suggest we could get our players in “positions to miss” and hopefully grab the three points.
  9. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Tranmere Rovers 0 Chesterfield 0 Chesterfield grabbed a draw against Tranmere, on most days I would have been happy with a point but not today. We dominated in making chances but was thwarted by Rover's keeper Ryzhikov who was a monster in between the sticks. I am pleased we made so many chances though, just need to stick some of them in the back of the net. After 2 consecutive losses (one to Barnsley and the other to Chelsea in the cup) Lallana made way for Rojo and Antonelli came in for the injuried De Silvestri. Next up is QPR where we are hoping to capitalise on our chances.
  10. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread The clear out at Notts County continues Great offer from Tottenham which sees Sujiemani move in the opposite position, the move will see veteran Brad Friedel jump up to the starting job and I have every confidence in the former U.S international Trying to reduce the wage bill and there will be subsequent departures. TRANSFERS IN Delighted to get Rondon into the squad and will provide some much needed youth up front with Klose, Olic, Pavlyuchenko and Cacau. As a result of Rondon's arrival, Brown Ideye's loan has been cancelled and he returns to Portsmouth
  11. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread Taken over Mister Malcomn's former side Notts County and I'm trying to put my stamp on the side by removing who I think are pulling us down in terms of wages. The team has a plethora of talent and if I can get some other players in, I would be mightly pleased Glad to report: Notts County 2 Peterborough 1 Glad to get off on a winning start with my new club, on loan Spanish wunderkid Ander Herrera grabbed our opening goal, then Peterborough's Albrighton got the equaliser however County were the ones to leave with the choccies. Stiljin Schaars fired in a brilliant free kick to grab us the 3 points and my perfect start. With imminent departure and arrival of players, it will be interesting to see what Glory Days will do with the side
  12. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 1 Barnsley 2 Chesterfield went down 2-1 to Barnsley but was a good indicator for how far we are from the top sides in Division and I'm glad to say that we aren't that far off. Alberto Paloschi continued his good form for the Spireites by grabbing the equalizing goal but Barnsley's Asharvin proved too irresistible and grabbed Barnsley the points on the day. Unfortunately De Silvestri picked up a knock but is only out for a game or two, captain Bravo had a horrible game between the posts and Lallana had his first bad game since signing from Walsall. Next up is Chelsea in the cup, another tough assignment Congrats steve on the win, I have great respect with what you are doing with Barnsley and I will be ready next time we face off
  13. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Ipswich 3 Chesterfield 3 A six goal thriller which saw Chesterfield come from behind three times in order to grab a point against higher rated Ipswich Town. Ekici, Britton and super sub Smolov grabbed the goals as we continue to grab points with every opportunity given to us. Mehmet Ekici and Leon Britton returned to form by grabbing a goal each and Fedor Smolov's first appearance got a vital goal supplied by Sulejmani. We finally strung two good performances together, now the key is to do it consistently. Next up is high flying Barnsley
  14. Re: English Championship 7046 Match Report/Tranfer Gossip Thread Spireites Special: A fan’s perspective Chesterfield 3 Swindon Town 1 Despite our bright start, the goal remains to survive relegation Italian striker Alberto Paloschi has his best game so far this season for Chesterfield Chesterfield registered third win of the season, second in front of the Spireites faithful. I like to give myself a day or two in order to reflect on the weekend’s events. For me personally, yesterday’s match proved as an indicator of where we are since last season but let’s be honest Swindon Town had three first team players out and it was hardly the side that won Division Four last season. Regardless we had to play the team that was in front of us and we dominated possession but Swindon grabbed the initiative with a goal against the run of play through Dutch prospect Van Dijik in the 3rd minute. That goal could have easily allowed Chesterfield to drop their heads but to their credit, we persisted and got the equaliser through Italian hitman Alberto Paloschi in the 10th minute. The much maligned striker often in the shadows of Hugo Rodallega last season, answered his critics with a clinical finish. Since the departure of the Rodallega, Paloschi has been relied upon to be the “main man” up front and yesterday he showed that he’s capable of it. After the equaliser the pattern of the game was predictable, Chesterfield dominated possession yet Swindon produced chances on goal. But to our goal keeper Bravo’s credit, he kept the chances out. It wasn’t until a beautiful cross from Karim Ait Fana was met by Deny Garmash’s head that we began to take the ascendency. Another brilliant cross by Ait Fana in the 86th minute which was finished off by Paloschi sealed the game and the points for Chesterfield. All in all, a great performance by the lads and despite the fact that Swindon didn’t have their best starting XI; we grabbed the opportunity and took the points on the day. Nine points from a possible fifteen, a brilliant start but we need to keep things in perspective, the priority is to stay up which is reflected in manager Glory Days post match interview Another point of improvement that we would need to address is our consistency. We haven’t strung two unbeaten matches as of yet this season but its early days and I believe that we are capable of getting a more consistent Chesterfield. Newly crowned Chesterfield captain Claudio Bravo quietly inspires his team to a win Final point I would like to make is the improved performances of Claudio Bravo since his arrival back to Chesterfield from Blackpool. Prior to his departure, Bravo would be capable of the spectacular game but then that would be few and far between but since he came back, his experience in Division 2 has put him in good stead and his appointment as captain has amplified his contribution and his influence on the team. We have many positives to look at but we need to keep in perspective that the job isn’t done until we have guaranteed a Division 3 spot for next season.
  15. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 3 Swindon Town 1 Very pleased to get the three points today against current Division four winners Swindon Town. We dominated possession but Swindon Town made a good fist of it but we made the most of it of our opportunities. Swindon Town took the early lead through Van Dijk but Italian hitman Alberto Paloschi showed his clinical nature by grabbing a brace while Denys Garmash scored in between to seal the result. Another pleasing piece of news for Chesterfield is Albert Duncan who had helped Livorno to get promoted into Serie A and rose from 78 to 83 and according to Leyton Orient's Geoffrey, he is one to look out for in the future Also Luca Antonelli 87 (LB/LM) may leave Chesterfield if the right offer comes along. Next up is struggling Ipswich
  16. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Dagenham 1 Chesterfield 0 Well done wovlives, Dagenham outplayed us on the day. Made one change to the side that won 7-2, Garmash returning from injury. Aruna Kone got the match winner but didn't take the shine off Bravo's brilliant performance. We need to improve but 6 points in the first 4 matches is pretty good progress with the aim being to survive relegation. Next up is injury struck Swindon Town
  17. Re: English Championship 7046 Match Report/Tranfer Gossip Thread Dynamite transfers sprout hope of safety Marquee signing Sulejmani hopes to make an impact at Chesterfield Chesterfield has sounded a signal of intent of staying up in Division three by signing Miraleum Sulejmani, Kevin Vogt and Alfred Duncan. In what is usually a quiet offseason, Chesterfield have revamped their side and had to fill the big holes left by the departed Dmitri Torbinsky and Hugo Rodallega. The headline transfer for the Spireites was Miraleum Sulejmani from Division Three rivals Plymouth Argle for $5.8 million. Being considered quite a coup for the small club, the controversial forward has the reputation of separating a dressing room with his personality however is still considered one of the brightest talents in Serbian football. Known for his pace, skill and precise passing along with his versatility to play on the wing and up front, he is an ideal fit for a Glory Day’s fast paced system. When questioned as to why he made the controversial move from fellow rivals Plymouth Argle to a “smaller club” Chesterfield Manager Glory Days addressed how such a big transfer could be kept under wraps Promising Kevin Vogt joins a growing German contingent at Chesterfield; he arrives from German side Augsburg and was touted for a move to Division One side Exeter City however made a surprising move to the Division Three side with prospects of more playing time. Another promising midfield prospect Alfred Duncan arrives from Walsall for $2 million and is seen as one for the future along with Diego Laxalt and Sergio Oliveria. Manager Glory Days showed his enthusiasm at welcoming his new players to the club.
  18. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 7 Norwich City 2 A brilliant display by Chesterfield on the day but the game really turned on the Norwich City Silva's red card after 16 minutes, which rightly so gave him his marching orders after a vicious two footed tackle on Britton. Something a bit unusual was that we had 7 separate goal scorers! We opened the scoring through Paloschi then Manitias gave us a surprising 2-0 lead before Norwich's Lens pegged one back. Then the alavalche of 4 goals through Ekici, Lallana, Antonelli and Ait Fana put the result beyond doubt. Lens again popped up to scored but it was purely numerical with Britton capping off a dominant display by Chesterfield. Another pleasant surprise for me was the debut performance of Kevin Vogt, young German kid who I purchased during the off season. With Garmash and De Silvestri out with injury, the young kid was drafted in, played really well and even grabbed himself an assist. All in all, a great day in the office Next two matches are against fellow Division 4 promotees, Dagenham and Swindon Town
  19. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Chesterfield 0 Peterborough 2 I knew that coming into Division 3 there would be days where we would be outplayed and today's game was just that. Well done to Peterborough! We picked up another short term injury to De Silvestri, anymore injuries and my team may be in some trouble However something good to report, after buying Jonas Knudsen he quickly rose to 82 and gives us good depth at the back and since going up a Division, our attendance has increased with a extra 2000 fans, where were they before . Next up is Norwich City at home
  20. Re: EC2933 Discussion Thread- VACANCIES SO JOIN THE FUN After a surprising 4th placed finish for Liverpool in our first season in the top flight, we have started our season with a morale boosting win over Man Utd but a morale dropping loss to West Ham. I want my team to have more of an impact this season and I want to go for a trophy in any capacity! After our demoralising loss to Bristol Rovers in the Cup Final, I'm burning for another opportunity at some silverware. However a massive boost to the Liverpool ranks A high quality 92 DM for less depth, Liverpool have sounded a signal of intent to the other competitors!
  21. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Well done Jooles, a great read and it makes the 7046 setup even more worthwhile
  22. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Finally got an article out despite my busy uni schedule with assessments coming up. With a new up coming season, challenges that lay ahead of Chesterfield dealing with life in Division 3 Chesterfield’s unlikely rise poses new challenges for Glory Days (http://ec7046-blog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/chesterfields-unlikely-rise-poses-new.html)
  23. Re: English Championship 7046 Discussion Thread Leicester City 0 Chesterfield 2 Chesterfield got the perfect start in Division 3 with a 2-0 against current English Cup winners Leicester City. Good game Gozzy. A perfect game in my eyes, we scored 2 goals and capped it off with a clean sheet, an excellent performance by our new captain Claudio Bravo grabbing the man of the match and leading by example. Mehmet Ekici scored from a dead ball situation and gave us the early lead and a timely Garmash goal sealed the result on 75 minutes. Great start for us but up fortunately Garmash is out for about a game or two, so we will need to reshuffle our midfield but things are looking up =) Next up is Peterborough
