Lanzini, nicknamed Manu by his teammates, emerged from River Plate's famous youth system and broke into the first team at the beginning of Apertura 2010.
He debuted in River's first match of the Apertura and played the first half alongside his idol, Ariel Ortega.
In his second game, a week later against Independiente, he was instrumental, pulling the strings and setting up a goal with a wonderful pass.
A day after the match, Diego Buonanotte, who played alongside Lanzini for most of the game said: Lanzini is a classic enganche (playmaker) who loves to get forward. He is a phenomenon. I have looked closely at him and we have talked a lot, he is a very good kid and let's hope he continues playing like this, Manu is going to be a River idol.
