  1. Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread Paris Hilton's New Movie, Nameless Hitman's Loss Of Faith... and oh, a Port Vale-QPR Match Preview The new season of EC 106 kicks off later tonight with the promise of lots of action, drama, laughter, tears, and loads of goals. I could write about a lot of the teams in the various divisions, but considering the pittance the stingy owner of this newspaper pays me, I won't bother. Therefore, I will concentrate on QPR's trip to Port Vale, which is sure to be a feisty encounter. The two teams have already locked horns over player transfer
  2. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Haha, same here! It's vastly under-rated, and I wish the stupid DFB would improve their marketing and visibility.
  3. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Managed to sign Lucas Barrios following a prolonged bidding war with Tiesto's Port Vale, whom I face later tonight. This was a rare occasion where I let my heart overrule my head and put in a maximum permissible bid (I'm a Dortmund fan, for those who don't know), but am very, very happy that I did. And so the new season kicks off in a few hours' time. Hoping to start well. Am echoing Navin by wishing good luck to everyone (except Daniel Johansson ).

  5. Re: 12 months of 2009 - Football Version What did you think of it?
  6. Re: 12 months of 2009 - Football Version Assuming that Wenger's methods fail to bring silverware this season as well, Wenger (to the Board & the fans) : You weren't wrong, guys. You were just wrong about me. (Was a boring movie, wasn't it? Although I liked a few scenes, such as the 'Expectations vs. Reality' one.)
  7. Re: My Time In EC 106 - A Collection Of Match Reports, Articles & Good Ol' Gossip Of Mobsters, Management & Orgies - A Midweekly Round-Up That football is a mad, mad business is an all-too-familiar maxim; yet, fans would be hard-pressed to name anything quite as crazy as the events that unfolded at QPR last week. Following the resignation of under-fire manager Dai Winston, the club was supposedly held hostage by a so-called Italian coach named Alessandro Velarone who threatened to publish certain photographs of the co-owners Bernie Ecclestone & Flavio Briatore, showing them in
  8. Re: My Time In EC 106 - A Collection Of Match Reports, Articles & Good Ol' Gossip Weidenfeller Completes QPR Switch German goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has joined Division 3 strugglers Queens Park Rangers from Borussia Dortmund. The 29-year-old shot-stopper, known for his agility and reflexes, arrived in a cash-plus-player deal that saw veteran QPR 'keeper Dimitar Ivankov move in the opposite direction. Weidenfeller has penned a 2-year deal with the English side, and will be expected to play a major role in QPR's quest for survival in the league this season. Meanwhile, the club h
  9. Re: My Time In EC 106 - A Collection Of Match Reports, Articles & Good Ol' Gossip THE TATTLETALE SM's No: 1 Tabloid Empty Coffers Leave Velarone Fuming; GozGozzy Given Armed Protection New QPR manager Alessandro Velarone was left seething with fury after the Board revealed its helplessness in providing significant transfer funds. Co-owners Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone blamed "excessive spending" by the Italian's predecessor Dai Winston for taking the club to near-bankruptcy, although The Tattletale speculates that the siphoning of money for covering expenses related to the
  10. Re: My Time In EC 106 - A Collection Of Match Reports, Articles & Good Ol' Gossip Velarone Takes Over As QPR Boss Enigmatic Italian Alessandro Velarone has been named as the new manager of struggling 3rd Division side Queens Park Rangers. The 40-year-old has been entrusted with the task of rebuilding a faltering side and leading it to heady heights by co-owner Bernie Ecclestone. Velarone's appointment has come as a surprise to many, given his relative lack of experience in club management, and his family's supposed ties with the Cosa Nostra has led to rumour-mongering that the former
  11. This thread is for the sole purpose of charting my time in one of the most competitive setups in SM, EC 106. I got in by taking over at QPR in Division 3 at the end of Season 9, and am looking forward to making some of the heavyweights bleed. I have no idea how long I'll be in this setup or on SM, for that matter. But I figured this would be something nice for me to look back at, eventually, and judging by some of the responses I've been getting, readers might enjoy it too. Anyway, without further ado, here we go...
  12. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Nah, a tiny thing like death won't hurt at all. Heaven forbid were that s l u t....err, Ms. Hilton to get pregnant; there'd be a never-ending queue of men to stake claim for fatherhood. Izod, a Sicilian?
  13. Re: Help With Deal(s) Thread... "Yes" to the first two, certainly; I'd be a bit apprehensive about the other two, considering everything.

  15. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Well, that was a terrible party. Meanwhile, would anybody be interested in Mladen Petric? Don't want to sell him, but may have to in order to increase squad depth. I'd be looking at a 2-for-1 P/E, with me getting a striker and a CM in the deal.
  16. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Why' date=' Dave, you don't socialize so much? It's good for the eyes, not to mention certain other anatomical parts. (Popping the cork, champagne spurting out, etc., etc.)
  17. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Got a couple of players from Huddersfield Town on loan. Thanks, Dermo. Btw, wishing all you guys a very happy New Year in advance. Will be off to a party in a few hours' time; hoping to meet some drool-inducing dames there.
  18. Re: Bundesliga Risers, Talents and Droppers 2009 Jan Rosenthal - how good is he? Is he a potential gem, or merely a journeyman player who'll never make it big?
  19. Re: For A Few Points More : An Idea For Beating Unmanaged Teams I regularly employ a targetman when using 2 strikers up front (except in formations like a 3-4-1-2 that utilize the AM as playmaker). Usually' date=' it's my CF who takes up the role, but if a CF isn't available, your highest-rated forward will do (as [b']jangwook[/b] said). Needless to say, using the targetman option is a must-do in single-striker formations. Glad to be of help.
  20. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Made my first signings - Joan Oriol, Willians Domingos and Roman Weidenfeller. Long way to go.
  21. Re: How to beat cross city rivals man-city No, never. Why would you want to let up the pressure on your opponent when you're winning at half-time?
