  1. Re: Npower League 1 and 2 Official Thread I wish I could say I believe we'll stay up but lets be honest.. we're awful and have no chance. Desperately need someone to create chances, we have strikers who can do their job but it's impossible when the midfield is tinpot with no creativity. Really missing a leader as well, we might have replaced Matt Taylor as a CB, but as a captain we certainly haven't. Any team with David Noble as captain is doomed to failure, the guy is meant to set an example to his team and keep their heads from dropping when things get tough, not stand there waving your arms about because someone didn't get on the end of your pass, not constantly moaning at the officials, certainly not getting sent off for an elbow. Unfortunately, one criticism of Tis is that he certainly has his favourites, at least with Noble suspended for 3 games that's one of them out of the way but no doubt he'll still try to fit 4 central midfielders into the starting line-up. Dunne has gone completely backwards this year and is now qualified as a headless chicken. Sercombe, is this seriously the same player who was being watched by Chelsea, Fulham and Championship sides last season? His shooting is awful, he doesn't get assists and isn't exactly good defensively either, can't afford to carry someone so badly out of form. Which leaves Bennett who has done a decent job since coming into the side, there's your DM with a threat from set-pieces.. just need to find 3 others to play in front of him Need a good clearing out in the summer, this side won't do much in League 2 either. Losing O'Flynn and Bauza who have done nothing between them all season would be a good start, especially as I'm guessing they have 2 of the highest wages at the club. This time next year we could find ourselves behind Plymouth again..
  2. Re: Npower League 1 and 2 Official Thread Didn't take long for the Cureton - Logan partnership to work again. And if it stops working we have 4 strikers on the bench to help out

  5. Re: Npower League 1 and 2 Official Thread Cureton is back on loan :/
  6. Re: Npower League 1 and 2 Official Thread Supposedly a big announcement at 4pm today with 'reaction from the players'. I don't like the sound of this
  7. Re: Official England Thread I doubt Gerrard will be starting tonight whereas Parker will so it makes sense to give it to him.
  8. Re: Gold Championship 1 News So Amr Zaki who gets transfer listed due to lack of games at Dortmund, where he had 4 strikers rated higher than him and one the same at 87, ends up joining Lazio with Garcia, Cabanas, Pellissier (all 88), Crouch and Derdiyok (89) also at the club. Don't have a problem with the Lazio manager buying him as it's his team and I don't agree with concerns anyway, but it seems rather pointless that Zaki should decide to join because unless they decide to sell 2 of those he'll just end up getting unhappy again. Obviously not saying he should join the lowest rated side either but surely it would be better if any player over the age of 21 could decide that he wouldn't play regularly and then you move onto the 2nd highest bidder and he decides whether he would get games there and so on..
  9. Re: Official Cricket Thread And now dropped from the Test side for the Sri Lanka tour, quite surprised tbh as I thought they'd give him another chance. Can't see him getting back into the team now. Another good win yesterday, Broad's last over was excellent and always good to see Afridi out early so the crowd goes silent
  10. Re: Gold Game Worlds - What is the Point It used to be fairly easy to get a 'big' team when SM used to let everyone know creation times a few days before. A few little things like disabling Java and closing everything except the SM page to slightly speed up the refreshing and it was pretty simple. Now they don't do that anymore, I'm guessing that if you have the add new club page open and in the GC box have 162 or whatever number, if you keep searching every 5 minutes or so you'll probably see it come up a few minutes before creation. Then keep refreshing that page until the teams become available which probably gets you to the right page a minute or so before the notification comes up. If you can be bothered to work it out there are probably patterns to the timing of them as well. I'm not saying that works though because I have no idea and have never tried it.
  11. Re: Official England Thread Friendlies are pretty pointless so does it matter if we lose? In a way it's better if we have poor results leading up to the Euro's as the media will hopefully decide we have no chance of winning instead of the usual pap that happens before every tournament. As for Johnson, to be fair I might have gone a little over the top saying Walker and Richards are far better but I would certainly prefer them than Johnson who has had plenty of chances for England and never really shown that he's at that standard.
  12. Re: Official Cricket Thread Poor from the umpire, knew he'd made a mistake and then his finger was nearly up before Hafeez had even appealed the next ball
  13. Re: Npower League 1 and 2 Official Thread Hopefully Rhodes has a quiet game today, scored enough against us before so no need for him to bother again Aaron Dawson making his debut at RB with both Tully and Duffy out, very difficult game for him but if he does ok then he should have a good chance of keeping his place. edit; better team for 40 minutes then concede.. annoying but not surprising

  15. Re: Gold Championship 160 Newcastle News - Week 1 Results; West Brom 3-3 Newcastle Newcastle 0-1 Sunderland Newcastle 0-0 Bolton Transfers in; Dario Veron Landon Donovan Carlos Tevez Gareth Barry Vyacheslav Shevchuk Transfers out; Leon Best Nile Ranger Peter Lovenkrands Steve Harper Rob Elliot Cheik Tiote Davide Santon Yohan Cabaye Demba Ba With 2 draws in the league and an English Shield defeat to rivals Sunderland, it hasn't been the best of starts for Newcastle who host Liverpool at St James' Park tomorrow evening. The opening day saw United travel to West Brom with new signing Dario Veron on the bench. Joining from Mexican side Pumas UNAM the day before, the 32 year old cost around £5.5 million with reserve goalkeepers Steve Harper and Rob Elliot moving the other way. Also departing had been Leon Best who moved to Atletico Madrid for £8 million. Things didn't go to plan as despite having a large amount of possession, Newcastle found themselves 3-0 down at half-time. Nicky Shorey had given West Brom an early lead, captain James Morrison got the 2nd from the penalty spot before Jerome Thomas added another on 43 minutes. Newcastle decided not to make any changes at the break, instead giving those on the field in the first half a kick up the *ahem*. Almost straight away, Papiss Cisse curled in a shot from 25 yards and despite the home team bringing on the giant Stracqualursi to try and restore the advantage, goals from Yohan Cabaye and Cisse again gave Newcastle a deserved point. Krul Simpson - S. Taylor - Coloccini - Santon Tiote Ben Arfa - Cabaye - Gutierrez Cisse - Ba Subs: Soderberg | R. Taylor | Veron | Marveaux | Guthrie | Sh. Ameobi | Obertan Ahead of the Sunderland cup game came the signing of Landon Donovan from LA Galaxy. The 29 year old arrived for a fee of £14.4 million and signed his contract on the pitch at half-time. Also joining was Shakhtar left-back Vyacheslav Shevchuk with Nile Ranger used in exchange, and it was also announced that Peter Lovenkrands would be leaving for Reading. 9 changes were made for the game whilst Sunderland were unmanaged after sacking Bobby Moore for their 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford. Newcastle struggled to create any decent chances and were made to pay with Connor Wickham's 73rd minute strike. Krul R. Taylor - S. Taylor - Williamson - Shevchuk Gosling Obertan - Guthrie - Marveaux Sh. Ameobi - Sa. Ameobi Subs: Soderberg | Simpson | Veron | Gutierrez | Cabaye | Cisse | Ben Arfa Going into the Bolton game, it became clear that Davide Santon and Cheik Tiote would be playing their last game for the club. Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba had already moved to Manchester City with Santon and Tiote set to follow. Looking for a top class striker, Carlos Tevez made the move he has always dreamed of, whilst Gareth Barry also arrived in Newcastle after the game had finished. Not that anyone noticed as they'd all been bored to sleep by a dull 0-0 draw in which nothing happened and Tevez somehow was named Man of the Match. (A delighted Tevez receiving his MoM award!) Krul Simpson - Veron - Coloccini - Santon Tiote Gutierrez - Ben Arfa - Donovan Cisse - Tevez Subs: Soderberg | R. Taylor | S. Taylor | Marveaux | Sa. Ameobi | Sh. Ameobi | Vuckic Next week; Reports on Liverpool (H) and Wigan (A) plus the latest transfer news if I can be bothered
  16. Re: Official Cricket Thread Morgan and Bopara partnership gave Pakistan the win yesterday, they knew that 2 inexperienced youngsters were in next with Ajmal and Gul to bowl the last few overs, so decided to take 4-5 an over against their weaker bowlers
  17. Re: Official Gold Championships Discussions Thread Is it just me or have all the club names just turned into numbers
  18. Re: Official Cricket Thread What happened to Khawaja, he looked like a decent player when he came into the side against England? edit; Buttler finally gets his chance gone 2nd ball for 0 :/
  19. Re: Official England Thread Probably too early for Caulker although he does deserve it. Similar to Cleverley in that in his loan season he'll be ignored then when he's a regular next season for Spurs he'll be straight into the squad.
  20. Re: Gold Championship 160 Decent start for Newcastle as we come from 3-0 down at half-time to draw with West Brom, Cisse x2 and Cabaye with the goals. Lovenkrands and Ranger still available for cash, listed prices are a little high but I'll take less
  21. Re: FA Cup Pathetic reaction from Evans to get Delap sent off.. then again it's what you expect from a scumbag like him.
  22. Re: Npower League 1 and 2 Official Thread Err forget that last post. Logan 3-1 Should have made it 4 just after as well!
