Wigan make it 2 from 2 this season with a 3-1 win against Sunderland a game which saw 3 red cards can see Wigan's winning run coming to an end next game with both Souleymane Diawara and Holger Badstuber getting sent off it gets worse for Wigan with Marko Marin out for 7 weeks with a torn hamstring.

On a more positive note 2 goals from Marouane Chamakh and one for Javi Martinez move up to 3rd

Mata,Ozil,Torres And Ribery Humiliated on Return to Top Flight

The return of Juan Manual Mata,Mesut Ozil,Fernando Torres and Franck Ribery to top flight football ended far from what was expected, Man City who were strong favourites to make a winning return to Division 1 at the expense of Wigan however City looked far from comfortable against a revitalised looking Wigan who dominated the first 45 minutes.

Man City were a little more competetive after the break and did test Wigan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic but the Slovenian international was on top form all evening, with the game heading into the last 15 minutes it was Wigan that finally broke the deadlock thanks to Pablo Aimar who was never going to miss from just a yard out City did have one final chance in the 87th minute however like earlier chances the shot was tame and straight at Handanovic.

While considered strong favourites for the drop this season Wigan have carried their form through from last season and are playing with confidence and with a fixture schedule lacking the likes of Man Utd,Chelsea,Arsenal and Tottenham until early December Wigan could be on a very strong footing come those games.

Wigan Fans Confident Ahead of New Season

Wigan fans are full of confidence heading into the new season after a marked improvement in the clubs fortunes in recent weeks a great end to last season saw the club narrowly miss out on a top 10 finish, and while not starting pre season in the best way with a 1-0 defeat to Yeovil and a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Rochdale they have bounced back in recent games with a 2-0 win over Cardiff and last weekend a 3-2 win over Liverpool a second successive win over the merseyside club.

Wigan ended their pre season campaign with a 2-1 victory over Shorpe United at the DW Stadium with a little help from an undisciplined Shorpe side with Damián Suarez on the receiving end of a 52nd minute red card.

That red was just enough to give Wigan a little extra breathing space and in the 72nd minute Pablo Aimar took full advantage of it beating two defenders to slot home the winner for Wigan to record a 3rd pre season win.

Wigan End Season on a High

    200px-wigan_athletic_new_badge.png

Wigan ended the season on a high with an unbeaten run of 7 games including victories over Man Utd and Liverpool with the club only missing out on a top 10 finish by 2pts, it could have and should have been a much higher finish in the league for Wigan but for the clubs inconsistency all season long as well as showing some quite severe defensive frailties at times, with a 5-0 defeat to Arsenal a 6-2 defeat to West Brom and a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Fulham.

Up front Wigan's strikers netted a total of 31 goals this season however none really stood out as someone the club could rely on only Marko Marin could get into double figures this season and only just with 10 goals in 33 games.

    Wigan Athletic v Liverpool

Wigan face the difficult task of facing Liverpool this evening in what is a vital game for both side with Wigan just 3pts clear of the relegation zone while Liverpool are level on points with 18th place Stoke City.

Wigan will be without Chamakh,Carrico and Martinez when they kick off against Liverpool this evening

Wigan will have to rely on Eyong Enoh and Henrik Mkhitaryan to fill in for the suspended Martinez and the injured Carrico the pair so far this season have 90 minutes league playing time under their belts both have at least been regulars in the cup and shield and have both been sacrificed from Monday's shield squad to play here.

    Wigan Boss Philip Gibbon

Many will have discounted any chance of Wigan coming away from tonight's game with anything however we have already beaten Chelsea,Tottenham and Man Utd this season and there is no reason why we cant add Liverpool to that list.
