  1. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread Lots of ratings done today! Where to start?... Maybe with the biggest money-maker team this term: Gil Vicente. I had 6 big risers listed on the risers section. Unfortunately, SM decided to cape Gil Vicente's risers at 80 so nobody got beyond that. Hugo Vieira, Luís Manuel, André Cunha, Claudio, Caiçara and Facchini all rose to 80. My predictions on the first three were correct, but I had expected higher for the other ones (81/82). Anyway, all of them should get 82 in the next ratings change, provided they keep their plac

  3. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread Meanwhile SM has finished with the Eredivisie and started with the smaller teams in the Portuguese League - Feirense and Rio Ave. I'm very pleased that I nailed the three biggest risers in Feirense (Ludovic +6; Diogo Cunha +5; Mika +6). You'll see that all of them were listed correctly in the risers section. The only riser I misjudged was Nuno Henrique. I predicted an 80 but SM went for 78 instead. It doesn't make sense to give Ludovic and Diogo Cunha the 80 and leave Nuno Henrique out of the contingency, but whatever.
  4. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread Precisely. We were disgusted after he left. He said a hundred times that he wouldn't, only to resign at the first opportunity. The 15M€ were useful of course, but I'd much rather have AVB still as our manager. The timing was awful too as most of the good managers available were already tied down to new contracts. Personally I'd hand my season ticket back with a letter to the president if he sat on our bench for what's left of this season. That said, I don't think he'll leave Chelsea this year.
  5. Re: Official Chelsea FC Thread I don't think Chelsea is going anywhere whilst their team is so Mourinho-esque (Cech, Terry, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Obi Mikel, Drogba, Malouda, Kalou...). This team might have been very good half a decade ago, but not any more. Chelsea made two good signings ever since Mourinho left: Mata and Ramires, maybe throw Sturridge in as well. The rest was just plain average.
  6. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread Of course not. That's just a minimum fee release clause for externals. The actual sum we need to pay for an unilateral termination of his contract (without negotiation) would be the total of his wages until the end of said contract. Even so, I reckon VP will be sensible enough not to demand all the money. It was his misdoing after all. http://vitorpereirajafoidespedido.com/
  7. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread In all my years as a Porto fan I've never seen such a pathetic display. I've never been this humiliated since our heavy loss against Nacional da Madeira six (!!) years ago. Last season we were easily one of the strongest sides in Europe. This season our displays on the pitch are nothing short of pure mediocrity. Our chairman has to sack the manager AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. We're out of the Cup, most likely out of the CL and if we keep things as they are the league will follow suit.

  9. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread He wasn't loaned out. Santos demanded that Danilo only left the team in January so that he could play in the CWC. I have no idea, I suppose it depends if he'll come to play as a RB or as a CM.

  11. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread And Walter. Kleber is a good player, but Walter isn't an option for competitive matches despite scoring the odd goal more often than not. I reckon we're still looking to bring an extra striker in January.
  12. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread Honestly? I don't think he's one for the future. He might turn out to be a decent player, but I'd rather have Rodrigo and Nelson Oliveira instead. And I doubt he'll have much chances in the team, even though Benfica made a large investment on him. If you gave yourself the trouble of checking the predictions you wouldn't have to wait for an answer.
  13. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread I agree with the second post. Also, you should bear in mind that Wolfs will lose his AM position.
  14. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread So many words! I read through all of it, but honestly I haven't got the patience to elaborate a giant answer. I'll just stick to the basics: Yes, the French league is more attractive than the Portuguese. Their country is richer, meaning there is more money involved in their league; the stadiums have perceptibly better crowds than ours specially when it comes to smaller teams; their competitiveness is higher, there are 4/5 teams which can effectively fight for the title, we only got two in the past years (sorry Sporting

  16. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread Yep, I forgot about him. Anyway, his major problem is being Portuguese and home-grown. 'Nuff said. Honestly I can't remember the last player who came through Benfica's youth setup and had a decent career. Manuel Fernandes perhaps, and Maniche before him. Then it's just a giant desert between those and Rui Costa. I'm not saying that David Simão won't be a good player, but the odds are stacked against him.

  19. Re: PORTUGAL – 1st and 2nd Division extensive thread - Discussion Thread Somebody asked the same question a couple of days ago. Here: Marítimo are doing great and Baba is the league's top scorer. I don't know if he'll join Celtic but he would be a great buy.
