  1. Re: Official Gold Championships Discussions Thread I had the sudden urge to come back to SM after 2 years away, came here with every intention to get my gold membership back etc. Totally knocked me back to see we're on GC363 and they're opening every 2/3 days. Looking through them there's so many teams going free now that would have been snapped up back in the day. Obviously it's not sustainable to open them at this rate, they'll just become how standard GWs are because there's only so many GMs to take these teams. Disappointing. I might still lurk and see that the community's looking like, not hopeful though.
  2. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread My life's been pretty mad in the past couple of months and I'd all but forgotten about SM, and I'm finding it very difficult to get back interested now that it's calmed down. I'll be freeing my West Ham up for another manager to take over as even if I do return to the game, I doubt I'll put the time in to do this league justice. It's been good fun, thanks to you all and good luck to whoever takes the Hammers over. Also, just thought I'd share this. Perhaps it was fate that I should leave now.
  3. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread West Ham pull off a nice 4-1 win against Bolton. That's four points safe from fifth now with six games to go so am a lot more confident of securing a SMFA Cup place this time round. Obviously that's the main thing, although finishing runner-up would also be pretty nice.
  4. Re: GC150 - The Forum Invasion / Choose the League! The mighty Mansfield rise to third in the fifth division table after a 4-3 win over York. I'm pretty happy with the squad I've got now, even if it is mostly made up of Slovenian forwards.
  5. Re: Available Teams, No Job Offers! (GC Teams Only!) Just rejected Aston Villa, GC75. No Bent but still has Milner, as well as a few other decent additions.
  6. Re: Available Teams, No Job Offers! (GC Teams Only!) Rejected Aston Villa, GC90. Bent is the only player of note missing from the current squad, with some nice additions like Gomis and Gary Cahill. 36mill and decent youth.
  7. Re: Official Gold Championships Discussions Thread GC72: Werder Bremen sign Alexandre Pato from Fiorentina for Mata and Walcott, with Toivonen following the pair out the club for CV. Very high price to pay, but still happy with it. Van Der Wiel also joins for Cahill and Buonanotte.
  8. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread A 4-1 win against Sunderland takes West Ham to second in the Premier League, ahead of Rob's Preston on GD. It's still early in the season but I can't see anyone catching Arsenal, so the target is staying in the top four. Would be very happy with that after narrowly missing out on it last year.
  9. Re: Available Teams, No Job Offers! (GC Teams Only!) No problem, good luck with them. Rejected Roma, GC 72. It's a very good side, I'd take it but my Werder Bremen would never forgive me.
  10. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread West Ham swap places with Man City after beating them 3-2, now at the dizzy highs of third place. This gameworld is growing on me now that I seem to have lost the ability to win a game in every other.
  11. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread Asamoah joins West Ham from Udinese for Ait-Fana and Bas Dost, with Mounier on his way from Nice to replace the first of the pair leaving. West Ham can spare Ulreich if you haven't had any better offers.
  12. Re: Available Teams, No Job Offers! (GC Teams Only!) Rejected Tottenham, GC139. Nice side.
  13. Re: Official Gold Championships Discussions Thread Got a shot at completing my GC Honours collection after Werder Bremen squeeze past Sevilla to reach the SMFA Cup final against Tottenham in GC72. I've still yet to win a domestic playoff too but I'm hoping I can be excused of that one. That's a great side, I doubt you'd regret taking them on.
  14. Re: Available Teams, No Job Offers! (GC Teams Only!) Lille in GC39. Missing Hazard and Gervinho but still have Rami and Debuchy, plus Jesus Navas and Thiago Motta.
  15. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread West Ham beat Wigan in an emphatic 4-0 win. That should hopefully kick-start the season which has been quite poor for us so far, although there is a tough run of games coming up. Open to offers on De Rossi and Maxwell.
  16. Re: Thinking about quitting? Ridiculous results? As someone else said, I'd love to see match reports for these two games, especially the first. SM throws up some ridiculous results sometimes but that is something else.
  17. Re: Gold Championship 149 Me three? I see we all got our first wins yesterday though! I'm Histon. Started a few days late so found most the players I wanted were gone, but I'm happy with my squad now. I've been conservative with loans and wages as I want to stay financially stable, although this is the first time I've taken on such a lowly side so I don't know whether the better approach is just to go gung-ho for results and promotion. I don't think that was ever really an option for me anyway considering I'm the fourth least valuable side in the game world even after my transfers. Should be an interesting season if people stick around.
  18. Re: A new Forum filled EC (Please read) I'll look out for it.
  19. Re: Available Teams, No Job Offers! (GC Teams Only!) Roma, GC81. Very good squad, 47mill to spend and a competitive league in one of the better GCs. Take them if you intend to stick with them.
  20. Re: Official Gold Championships Discussions Thread Heh, slightly less tight than last season. Congrats, I'd say I'll give you more of a contest next time but with my form from the second half of the season but I can't make that promise.
  21. Re: English Championship 5579 - Discussion Thread Bad results for the other teams competing for the top four means that West Ham sneak back into the 4th spot, level on points with 3rd place Man City and 5th place Preston. The final two games will be huge now with Everton and Bolton also in with a shout for top four. It's nice to be back in there for the time being, but with Chelsea and Liverpool left to face I'm not all that confident of keeping hold of it.
  22. Re: Official Aston Villa Thread ! * no spoilers * http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A81956893 Saw this and thought of Elliot. If it's died by the time you see this, it's an article titled "Stewart Downing...Villa legend?", so you can probably get the gist of it from that. To be fair to him be put in a great shift against Blackburn and looked our most dangerous player with the ball imo. He was taking players on as well which is something he is criticized for doing too little of. I'm starting to take to him a bit more.
  23. Re: Available Teams, No Job Offers! (GC Teams Only!) Rejected Marseillle, GC23. Very nice squad.
  24. Re: Available Teams, No Job Offers! (GC Teams Only!) FC Porto in GC39. Strong squad and a lot of good youth.
  25. Re: Official Gold Championships Discussions Thread The more competition the better, it's a strong league. Abdel might not go so easy on us this time round too.
