  1. Re: Guess at next leagues to be reviewed, & discuss SM's review policy........

Then there managers/clubs are trying to punch above their weight' date=' People ask for more realism on SM and in real life if clubs bought lots of extra players that the club couldn't afford and had wages they could not pay then they will face sanctions to curb their spending and clear their wage bill.

I am one of these managers with a small club and I prefer a bit of structure and restraint on the wage bill to keep it more real, not really into the buy a huge batch of risers and change the club overnight into a team that is well above what its stature should be, build a club up yes but surely it has to be a gradual build not an overnight sensation?[/quote']

Can you clarify what restrictions you put on yourself, please?

  2. Re: Guess at next leagues to be reviewed, & discuss SM's review policy........

And it also stops people from buying loads of risers from one country days/weeks before they all rise' date=' now people will have to buy players not knowing when they will rise or miss out because they were afraid to speculate.[/quote']

You do realise some managers are in charge of teams that can't afford big wage bills? Smaller teams can't always afford to keep players in their squad for, potentially, months whilst waiting for their rise (of course, now that's the only choice). As has been said already, SM seem to dislike managers who play like this. Whether you agree or disagree with that style is a matter of opinion, but I don't see what's wrong with those who do like it.

  3. Re: Guess at next leagues to be reviewed, & discuss SM's review policy........

    ;2391699']

its not scattergun random risers' date=' it is becuase people have submitted edits regarding position changes, transfers etc so there is a method there.

as for Nehrig, agreed!...it was poor decision not to even get +1![/quote']

There is no pattern or common theme to the edits that those people are sending to SW, therefore the rises being made based solely on them are random. The German risers, for instance, are not random, because they are updating complete teams at once. The rest are, because they are only rising individuals without touching the rest of their team/league, therefore resulting in unbalanced teams.

  4. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

    CARLISLE UNITED 1-1 Middlesbrough

    The Great Escape...

Rosicky gets our goal and also Man Of The Match !

Another draw for us which still puts us in the same position we were. 2 Points from safety' date=' with me and Bournemouth on the same points at 35 and B'ham on 37. Cardiff City look to be out of it now and definitely relegated. But not mathematically yet :P Gillingham up next who sit 4th. Tough game but if we can draw with 'Boro who are 2nd with a weakened team, then we can surely get something out of the Gillingham game..[/quote']

You're actually a point ahead of me, after our 2-0 defeat at an impressively in-form Hereford, my choice of tactics proving totally wrong.:( Relegation moves one step closer, a devastating result. I just can't see us doing any better at Newcastle on Monday night either. If we got beaten as I expect, we could be six points from safety, and that will be the end in this division for us.

  5. Re: Guess at next leagues to be reviewed, & discuss SM's review policy........

The previous system you didn't know when players were going to be reviewed either.

Better than it was' date=' at least some players are getting reviewed as opposed to none[/color']

But now it's just an inefficient scatter gun approach. By using SW in this way they're creating a database that is rife with inconsistency, where only the 'popular' players from that league actually get a fair review, whilst most of the others continue to be rated many points lower. Far from helping them keep the database well balanced and up to date, it's, actually, only going to make it seem more unbalanced and out of date. I'm happy to wait a few weeks/months longer if it means we have a database (as we did) that is reviewed methodically, and logically, therefore making it more accurate as a whole. I actually really like the concept of SW, and think it is a great tool to update players more regularly, I just don't think it should have taken such a major role in rating changes.

The database will not benefit from the fact its users are only going to update the 'hot' players that they have and want to rise, leaving all the other players rating slipping hideously outdated. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when they finally do make it through the big 5 (got to finish what they start I guess), and whether the concept of overall league reviews is abolished from then onwards. We've already seen a mass of countries receive many random risers, which perhaps suggests they are all nations that will not get a thorough review again.

  6. Re: Guess at next leagues to be reviewed, & discuss SM's review policy........

I have a feeling that SM don't know what they're getting into. Sure lucky for them' date=' the Bundesliga has stopped for the winter break and so the Table remains contant, so SM can take their time going up the table 2 by 2 doing reviews.

HOWEVER, the other leagues are still ongoing and therefore their respective tables won't remain the same for SM to do reviewing. Now I wonder what SM are gonna do once they reach La Liga.

    [/quote']

From what I saw during the Serie A (which I followed with great interest) changes SM simply proceed up the table, in the order it was in when they began the changes, irrespective of any later shifts. Because I was a very interested onlooker to those changes I actually copied the table the day they started for reference, and they stuck to it, even after there had been another round of games which changed the positions.

  7. Re: Turkish Database - Ask me anything

I think the Turkish ratings have started :D

No they haven't, mate, if you notice a lot of players from many other leagues went up too. They have started to review Germany amongst all that, but the rest are random risers based on changes made by users of SoccerWiki (as is now the way SM do changes). If SM are reviewing a whole league, they start from the bottom and work their way up.:)

  8. Re: Bulgarian APFG Riser Predictions 12/13

Georgi Milanov finally get his rise' date='80->84

also Antonio Vutov(who get the prize for the best young player in Bulgaria) get his rise 75->77

I just noticed those myself, pleased to have been on target for Milanov (although it wasn't a hard one to predict). Wasn't expecting a rise for Vutov, but at least I signposted him as a good prospect. Certainly one to follow still, could rise far higher long term.

  9. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

    AFC Bournemouth 1 - 0 Birmingham City

    Ba 87

A late, crucial Demba Ba goal at the Goldsands Stadium keeps our hopes of survival alive. I was very pleased with the amount of chances we created, but it seemed like Stekelenburg was going to be unbeatable until Dia and Ba combined late on. We are now level on points with Carlisle, and two points away from safety. However, with a difficult double of away games at Hereford and Newcastle coming up I'm not getting carried away.

  10. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

    Carlisle 1-4 Newcastle Utd

A bad bad result which has finally moved us in to the relegation zone. With Birmingham winning we are 3 points from safety with 7 games to go. Its still possible to survive. we just need a good loan or two. Can a division 1 side please help me ?

    Next up: Plymouth Argyle away!

I'm in the same boat, although I'm a massive five points away from safety after a 0-1 home defeat to Forest, after I got my tactics all wrong.:( I just can't see yourself and Birmingham slipping up enough in the last few games to save us now. We now face a massive home game against Birmingham on Wednesday, if we don't win, we are certain of relegation, it's as simple as that. I know it's not my fault the team is in such a bad position, since I only took over three weeks ago, but it still hurts!

  11. Re: Premier League Discussion Thread

I don't see why he would go to Reading tho ? In my opinion they're guaranteed to go down.

Perhaps he wants to make the step up and fancies a challenge in a top tier league? Reading aren't finished yet, unlike QPR they're a team of players who want to keep their team in the league and will fight for it, and teams like that have beaten the odds (at least for a season or two) once or twice in the past. Even if they do go down, it'd be a good chance to put himself in the shop window for another team in the league for future seasons.

  12. Re: The Best Talent of 10k

They aren't 10k (or close) though.;)

  13. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

Incredibly tight at the bottom in Division 2 aint it?

Indeed it is, I've never participated in a relegation dogfight before, which is what attracted me to this team, given they were in a hopeless position when I found this setup. I still think we'll end up being relegated, both yourselves and Birmingham have a much stronger squad than us, and the level of squad improvements I've been able to do has been severley limited by the poor resources that were available. But, I'm just giving it the best shot I can, it'll be interesting to see what happens.:)

  14. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

    Wrexham 0 - 3 AFC Bournemouth

    Abdoun 6, Orbaiz 17, Guilavogui 74

Finally, we pick up the first three points of my managerial reign. Unfortunately, both Birmingham City and Carlisle United also won, keeping us two points adrift of safety. However, I am encouraged by the vast improvment of the teams performances since I took over five games (DLDDW) ago with them on a six game losing streak!

  15. Re: The Best Talent of 10k

Another player for your list, from Scotland, is John McGinn (65 rated) of St Mirren. He didn't rise in the recent Scottish changes because he hadn't played at that time. However, since the 24th of November he has started all six SPL games for them. Should go 65 > 75/76 at least, presuming he remains as a starter. Listed as DM,MC currently, but should change to a left winger.

  16. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

    AFC Bournemouth 1 - 1 Everton

    Ba 73

    Dzeko 85

Another game, another excellent late lead thrown away stupidly. Going into the game I'd have been happy with a point against the strongest team in the division, with their team full of stars giving them a team with an average rating a full four points over mine. However, the nature of it once again makes it feel like a defeat. Taking a late lead only to throw it away again seems to be the theme with this team since in the last two games. Those four points we've dropped will cost us dearly in the relegation battle, it looks like we're going down.:(

  17. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

    Carlisle United 2 - 2 AFC Bournemouth

    Semshov 17, Rosicky 82,

    Lopez S/O 5, Ba 80, Siovas 81

Ordinarily, I'd be quite happy with an away point in a tough game like this, but the manner of it is frustrating, particularly as this was a real relegation six pointer. Going from 0-1 behind to 2-1 up in two minutes, as late in the game as the 80th and the 81st, should really make sure of the three points, but we fell asleep and conceeded a needless equaliser. I'm particularly annoyed with Javi Lopez being sent off so early, one of my key players and he picks up a 3 match ban five minutes into his debut, brilliant!

Still, this side had lost its last six games when I arrived so I suppose two draws and one defeat from my first three games in this tough league really hasn't been to bad. However, the games are running out and, with an impossible task at home to an exceptional Everton side that is ripping its way through the league on Wednesday, we really need to pick up some wins and fast.

  18. Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

The changes at AFC Bournemouth have begun! No earth shattering changes, I've just been trying to add depth to our pitifully weak squad. I had to sell Gentner and Cerci to be able to do this. They are both 88, and all of their replacements are lower rated and generally older, so it's less than ideal, but these two had to be sacrificed so I could have an additional five players in the squad (otherwise I had a bench with a highest rating of 80, and that was a loanee!). I also sold the 85 rated Bulot, which I really would rather not have done, but cash was essential to move my squad from threadbare.

The arrivals are (or will be when accepted deals are completed):

    Pablo Orbaiz

    35014.jpg

I'm really not a fan of buying old players, but with my limited resources I have to stretch them as best I can. Orbaiz comes in since, even at 33, he is still a key part of a Rubin side that is doing ok domestically and well in Europe. Won't ever get above 87, but should be safe there for the time being, and at around 50% of the price I got for the 88 rated Gentner he is a decent replacement which allowed me more resources for an additional player.

    Javi Lopez

    20091001dasdasftb_50.jpg

Like Orbaiz, not going to rise above 87, but should be safe there for the time being as a regular for Espanyol and has the advantage of only being 26. Another good saving too so a valuable buy.

    Djamel Abdoun

    Djamel-Abdoun.jpeg

I don't expect him to rise or do anything incredible. But, he is a 26 year old with a solid 86 rating at one of the strongest clubs in Greece with decent flexibility in his position.

    Dimitrios Siovas

    Dimitrios-Siovas-100303-Challenges-AI-300.jpg

At least one of my purchases has a little potential for the future. Currently at 84 and should get a +1/+2 eventually for being a regular at Olympiakos and having appeared for Greece.

    Andrade Danilo

    20120321_21_53_DaniloAndrade_reut.jpg

Once again, another oldie. However, he was still a key part of Corinthians Copa Libertadores and Club World Cup winning side so should remain a safe 86 and adds another relatively flexible option for the midfield.

    David Ducourtioux

    DavidDucourtioux_2236656.jpg

The oldest of the oldies at 34! However, he is still playing a key role for a Valenciennes side sitting 6th in Ligue 1 and therefore is another safe 86. Also offers incredible versatility for the squad, being a D(RL),DM(RC),M®!

    Denis Streker

    setwidth245strekerdenis.jpg

With all the short term buys taking up all my resource, I wanted to at least try and fine one riser that was still available! I found this 21 year old lad from Hoffenhiem. Currently, he's far from setting the world alight, but with 232 minutes in the Bundesliga he should deserve a small rise of +2/+3 anyway. Nothing special, but nice to have at least one younger player with potential.

    John McGinn

    St-Mirren-U20-v-Dunfermline-U20-240x300.jpg

St Mirren midfielder, currently only rated 65, since he hadn't played when the Scottish changes were done. However, since 24th November he has been a regular starter for 5 games running. Of course, being in the SPL will make any rise he eventually gets minimal, but again it's nice to at least have a little potential with all the oldies.

Thank you also to the mangers of Burnley, Man Utd and Wolves for loaning me Paul Pogba, Matthew Briggs and Facundo Ferreya respectviely:). I also exchanged a load of 70s in my squad for a collection of 64s just to take a little of the wage bill.

Overall, I'm pleased with these transfers, for two 88 rated players and an 85 I've added two 87s, three 86s and an 84 to the squad to add some much needed depth. Of course, their ages and/or lack of any long term potential for changes means they are far from ideal, but I had to make te best of a bad situation here. Do I think we'll manage to survive in Division Two now? In all honesty, probably not, I've never had a very good grasp of tactics on SM and against all of the superior teams in Division Two, I just don't think we'll be strong enough, but I'll give it a good go anyway.

  19. Re: Guess at next leagues to be reviewed, & discuss SM's review policy........

There is something i didnt get thought.

After the implementation of SW' date=' and these recent changes, will the league reviews totally disappear leaving only the individual SW reviews, or will the revies still happen (but with no particular order or schedule), leaving SW as an additional feature for individual reviews?

Right now SM is still doing the league reviews of the top leagues, but after that, will they keep doing the reviews or after the big leagues are done it will be individual SW reviews only?[/quote']

Yes, I was thinking about that too. Surely there still has to be some kind of focus for reviews to be made. If there is to truly be no league, or other kind of, specific focus at all to changes being made then we're going to find ourselves in a messy situation. You'll have squads where there'll be one or two players who are given huge rises as they breakthrough whilst the rest of the team remain many points below. Indeed, the smaller leagues might never get their fair changes (Poland, Romania, Bulgaria etc) since they are not as attractive for SoccerWiki users to focus on. What happens on SM over the next month or two is going to be interesting to watch.

  20. Re: Bundesliga Ratings 2012/2013

Considering that Ginter has basically played all matches over 90 minutes up to his injury since the last time Germany was re-rated I think he'll get 82 quite sure. Especially as he has been playing extremely well for Freiburg.

Thank you. Can I also ask for clarification on the current state of play with Petr Jiracek please? I know you've predicted for him to stay, but was thinking slightly longer term. I know he started the season as a starter for both Hamburg and Czech Republic but picked up an injury which has kept him out of action since. When is he, roughly, expected to be fit again? What kind of role is he likely to have at the club after such a spell out?

  21. Re: Guess at next leagues to be reviewed, & discuss SM's review policy........

Well, that statement, for the most part, answers our concerns and I have to say it merely serves to confirm my worst fears. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' seems to be a phrase that hasnt been heard in their offices, I don't really have too much more to say. I'll probably give it another month or two in the hope I can adapt, but I don't know how that will go.

On a more constructive note, I wish SW would make it possible to vote for more than one change to a players data. I've got quite a few players I can update, but I can't because I've been stuck for weeks with an English player that I edited, since my change won't go through until they review England.
