  1. Hi guys, ex Brentford here. Wondering how they are doing these days? Forum page looks worryingly quiet, is the game world still full & competitive?
  2. Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread TUG OF WAR FOR RICHARDSON March 9th 2009. An insignificant date for most of the population, however a date that is anything but for Brentford boss Darren Richardson. It was on this date, over five years ago that he became manager of his beloved Brentford side that has now been his home for 588 games. There have been some massive highs such as the club record 18 match unbeaten run, the long awaited promotions and the classic matches. Whilst there have been a fair amount of low points, you always had the impression Brentford would come through the other side so long as Richardson was at the helm. A reliable stalwart loyal to the Brentford cause for so long, loyal to his players and a mastermind of working on a shoestring budget. Such quality players have come and gone through the doors at Brentford under his watchful eye without ever really spending big money. Club captain Blaise Matuidi being the exception with his exceptionally good £12m cost from Newcastle who has gone on to become one of the finest players in his position in Europe and undoubtedly one of the best Brentford have ever had. Nurturing youthful talent into first team regulars has been a success story for Richardson as well with the likes of Alex Sandro, Granit Xhaka and Marcos Rojo all coming from relative unknown backgrounds to become established and sought after players with all giving huge credit to their boss. Now the moment Brentford have been dreading, the one thing that could come along to break up this fantastic relationship between them and Richardson. Another date that will seem insignificant to many in years to come but could be a date that lives long in the memory of Brentford fans, November 24th 2014. The day Brentford were forced to call Richardson in and inform their beloved boss of an SOS call coming from Division One. A call that normally would be met by a smile from Richardson and a reassuring conversation with the board that he was going nowhere and he would be off to deal with Brentford business. This time though, there was no smile from Richardson. This time, there was a nod and thanks for the information and that he needed to go home to think things over. That's because the SOS was sent from Chelsea Football Club, whom Richardson supported as a boy. The Blues have turned to a man they know if they can get to leave Brentford, will be at Stamford Bridge to build a dynasty until he is told he is no longer wanted. The question is, what does Richardson decide? There is a tug of war going on in London with Richardson stuck in the middle of it. The man himself hasn't been since being told of the request by Chelsea to speak with him. Brentford have said they hope the best manager to ever grace Griffin Park will stay but cannot stand in his way of Chelsea if he chooses to go, such is the respect they have for him.
  3. Re: TCO92 - Match Previews/Reports, Transfer News & General Nonsense. Chester 0-2 York Sixth straight win for York who stretch the unbeaten run to 9 matches. Arnautovic and Abel Hernandez hit the goals in a professional away performance. Even number of attempts but a dominant display of possession football with 65% for us. Cannot finish lower than 8th now, pleased with that. Finish the season at home to promotion chasing Wigan. We will be looking to end the season on a high with another win.
  4. Re: TCO92 - Match Previews/Reports, Transfer News & General Nonsense. Hi guys! Sorry I haven't been able to post much or make some good input into the game world via the forum. Will try make a bit more of an effort York City have transformed into a force in this division and are on an 8 match unbeaten run, winning the last five. Sit in 7th place and have guaranteed a top ten finish. Pity this form hadn't started a few games earlier as we could have gate crashed the playoff party. Still...delighted with our form and we have exceeded my target of lower mid table. Next season with a few big clubs out of the way, I think a play off place is the target. Despite the forum inactivity I love my little York
  5. Re: The Race To The Top I'd settle for not finishing bottom again No preference for either option Hannah
  6. Re: The Race To The Top Aldershot Town fans will be devastated at the news that I am approaching their managers seat Looking forward to the set up starting, should be good
  7. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Brentford 1-0 Swansea M'Baye Niang hit the winner inside the first minute. We dominated the match but couldn't find that killer second despite 20 efforts on goal. Thankfully we kept the door shut at the other end otherwise that would have been a hard result to take if we didn't win! Awful quiet in here these days!

  10. Re: TCO92 - Match Previews/Reports, Transfer News & General Nonsense. Think I will be stuck in division four for about fifteen seasons
  11. Re: TCO92 - Match Previews/Reports, Transfer News & General Nonsense. York City 1-0 Hartlepool A 69th minute Sougou goal saved our blushes. It looked as though we might do the unthinkable and fail to beat the whipping boys but we scraped through!! Really enjoying this little team, can't wait to get some decent transfer targets in once we get a little more money.
  12. Re: World Cup risers I seriously doubt players will get rises just for the World Cup. I'd think the performances in the world cup will be taken into account when the player is next reviewed but they won't get a rise purely on it. Three or Four good games shouldn't turn a 91 into a 92 IMO.
  13. Re: The Race To The Top Hey Hannah, thanks for the invite. I'd be happy to take a team in this, love a good underdog so would be perfect for me
  14. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Brentford go out after their idiot manager forgot to change players/tactics and lost on penalties
  15. Re: English Championship 6952 - Discussion Thread No I was offered Sterling, Durm and Zouma on loan from you both but chairman won't allow it.
  16. Re: English Championship 6952 - Discussion Thread Sorry I forgot to reply!! I have already made the commitment to Notts County and spent their money so I would feel bad if I jumped ship now. I don't mind the challenge of bringing them up as my own side and trying to save a little money to get one or two better players for the Division One relegation fight I will no doubt be embroiled in EDIT : Any kind souls that would have chairmen who will allow players out on loan would be greatly appreciated Manchester United and Bolton have very generous managers, but gits of chairmen Thanks anyway guys
  17. Re: TCO92 - Match Previews/Reports, Transfer News & General Nonsense. Hull City 2-2 York City Things looked ominous for us when Vargas gave a much stronger Hull side the lead after 60 seconds. Just after half time, Toni Kroos headed home what looked to be the killer second goal. But then....something funny happened. York City got angry, and fought back. El Hamdaoui got the backsides of Hull fans twitching when he hit a 67th minute goal to make it 2-1. That old fashioned kitchen sink was now starting to be prepared to be thrown at Hull as York grew in confidence and spirit. A terrific save from Navas stopped a Sougou bullet header but it was short lived relief for Hull. Just four minutes later, Kazuki Nagasawa found himself inside the box and cooly finished to send the visiting supporters into raptures at 2-2. It could have been even better. Two minutes from time, De Zeeuw saw his effort tipped onto the post otherwise it could have been a 3-2 comeback win! Pleased with the point as I expected a defeat. We played very well and it was actually statistically a very close game with us edging it. With more talented players on the pitch, I believe we would have won that game by a couple of goals!
  18. Re: TCO92 - Match Previews/Reports, Transfer News & General Nonsense. I'm hoping to gain the sympathy vote for my awful squad and get promotion to Stamford Bridge
  19. Re: Official Chelsea FC Thread This team is actually quite frightening!
  20. Re: English Championship 28888 Leeds Utd 1-2 Norwich City Good win considering we were on the back foot for most of the match, took our chances when we created them. 8th place three points off the leaders isn't a bad start.
  21. Re: TCO92 - Match Previews/Reports, Transfer News & General Nonsense. York City 2-0 Walsall A Sougou brace helped us to a pleasing victory that moves us into 15th place. My hope was a respectable finish of maybe lower mid table so we're not too far away from that. Roll on the end of August to sell this lot Anyone got anyone 82+ loans they fancy throwing our way? The higher the better
  22. Re: English Championship 106 - Discussion Thread Shorpe 0-2 Brentford That man Xhaka is there again to bang in the opening goal and move onto 8 goals for the season. The win was secured courtesy of a mistake on my part. I forgot to swap a player in and Jefferson came on up front (he's a central midfielder) to hit the crucial second goal Win moves us into nose bleeding 4th place
