  1. Re: Battle of the tribes setup Well he didn't stick around for long! I have taken over control of the setup so perhaps we can continue to keep it going as one of the more enjoyable game worlds in the World of SM.
  2. Re: 24 - The Series As far as I'm aware Season 7 of 24 wont be back on until January 2009. Compensation is Season 4 of Lost is better than ever and Heroes is back on the Beeb in the Summer.
  3. Re: Battle of the tribes setup After reading Cally's earlier post the above changes are exactly what I was thinking. I think it is important to keep the 5 player rule for 86 to 99 rated players. Managing an Irish Club it obviously now gives me more options for players rated up to 85. In other words I'm in agreement Kev.
  4. Re: Battle of the tribes setup DROGS REVIEW Four seasons of the Battle of the Tribes has now elapsed. Last night was my 100th match in charge of Drogheda (accruing 287 Manager Points) and I suppose quite fittingly it ended with a 7-0 win against Hamilton Academicals. So in those first 100 games what has been achieved? In the first season we started in Division Two. Not only was promotion achieved we went on to secure the title as well. The icing on the cake in that first season was achieving a double by winning the Cup as well. The second season consolidation was the aim but I suppose we exceeded those expectations by finishing second. The third season ended with the same outcome, runners up but no trophies. So for season four; another run in the cup which ultimately ended with a second success in the competition, 2 wins in 4 seasons. Not a bad record really? Well that’s what my Chairman said!! In the league the highlights would be scoring 6 goals in a game twice, as previously mentioned also scoring 7 in a game and winning 5-1 away at Linfield who have always been a tough opponent in this setup. But ultimately we had to be content with the runners up spot again!! Losing twice to the deserving League winners St Johnstone didn’t help especially 6-3 at home!! As the season progressed I came to the conclusion that my team needed a shake up. First to go was Tribes legend Henrik Larsson and also a fans favourite. He was quickly followed out the door by veteran stopper Brad Friedel. Shay Given & Richard Dunne were recruited mainly off the back of the money made from the Cup win. Then in the last week of the season the Drogs fans couldn’t quite believe what went on. Young superstar Yoann Gourcuff was shipped out for a fee of £13.9 million and was replaced the following day by the signing of Kim Kallstrom for £13.7 million, both deals being club records. So with season 5 about to start once again the League Title is the aim but in this setup that is never going to be an easy task. I’m looking forward to the next 100 games in what without doubt is my favourite custom setup.
  5. Re: Gold Championship 5 official match thread AC Milan are prepared to listen to offers for Genaro Gattuso. Player exchange deals are preferred. Two 90+ players. Will also consider young players with high 80 ratings.
  6. Re: NFL Official Thread Due to kick off at 23:15 UK time.
  7. Re: Battle of the tribes setup Don't see it as a problem. I signed Driver for my Arsenal side in a WC setup a while back (nice profit with the recent rise;)) and the last time I looked he was Scottish. Just checked and he's become English Don't think it would have affected the result as my lot have gone into a sad decline since winning the Cup.
  8. Re: The One Having had a look I would like to take Anderlecht as they appear to meet the criteria.

  11. Re: Battle of the tribes setup Tonight at Wembley Stadium Drogheda United won the Battle of the Tribes Cup for the second time in four seasons. In a very open game both teams amassed a total 58 shots at goal. Drogheda went in at half time with a one goal lead courtesy of a Stephen Bradley header in the 37th minute. It was probably at half time that the game was won as Wolfcatt introduced 3 substitutes bringing on Graham Kavanagh, Mark Kennedy & Jimmy Briand and it was Briand who beat the Bohemians offside trap to make it 2-0 in the 66th minute. Roque Santa Cruz pulled one back in the 73rd minute when he chipped Shay Given. Bohemians then pushed hard for the equaliser but with just 4 minutes remaining Mark Kennedy scored to make it 3-1 and two minutes later Graham Kavanagh put the icing on the cake when he scored the Drogs fourth goal from ten yards. After the game from pitchside Wolfcatt said he was delighted to win the cup again and it showed you could win it without playing your strongest team all the time. It emerged after the game that a potential scandal could have developed if Bohemians had won tonight as they had 7 non Irish players in their starting XI which would appear to be in breach of League Rules.
  12. Re: Battle of the tribes setup Well it's the half way stage of Season 4 in the Tribes and as usual Division 1 is boiling up to be another thriller. Out in the lead are the early pacesetters St Johnstone but they may well be starting to feel the heat as Drogheda, Linfield and Derry are in the chasing pack just six points adrift and I'm sure all three of their managers are setting their sights on St Johnstone. At the bottom just 3 points separate five teams and it's anyones guess who will survive especially following The New Saints 6-1 hammering of Bohemians in their last game. This is certainly one of the most competitive setups I am involved in and is probably my favourite. Long may it continue.
  13. Re: Battle of the tribes setup Last night Drogheda travelled to Longford Town from Division 2 to contest a place in the Tribes Cup Final. What turned out to be a tense affair the Drogs finally booked their place in the final with a 3-1 penalty shootout win as neither team could break the deadlock in normal time. Wolfcatt paid tribute to man-of-the-match Shay Given for keeping a clean sheet and then making some vital saves in the shootout. Wolfcatt said he was more than happy to be contesting a second Cup Final in four seasons. The dilemma he now faces is whether to stick with playing his squad players in the final or to play some of his established first teamers. The final sees the Drogs taking on Bohemians who they played recently and came out 3-1 winners despite playing for 79 minutes with 10 men following Henrik Larsson’s second red card of the season. Wolfcatt said he expected another stern challenge from a Bohemians team who are currently enjoying a very successful season.
  14. Re: Battle of the tribes setup DROGS NEWS Following last nights game at Linfield the club issued the following press release from their Manager. "Last night my team showed their strength of character and will power to come away from Linfield with a win and to score five goals in the process. I personally have the upmost respect for their Manager and it's always a difficult game when you come up against one of his teams. I have no doubt he will bounce back from this result. Despite having to go to Linfield my teams task was once again made even harder by the performance of the Referee. Or should I say lack of performance. We have played seven games now this season and have now had four players sent off. I'm now starting to think that there is a vendetta being carried out against my players by the officials. I really think it is about time the League Management Committee got a grip and started to employ some full time officials. At the end of the day the fans don't come to watch the twerp with the whistle!! I now face the prospect of being without the teams Captain and main striker for the next three games where we face two difficult league games against teams above us in the league and a Cup Quarter Final against the current holders Exeter City." The clubs press officer then said that Wolfcatt would not be making anymore comments on this issue in the future.
  15. Re: Battle of the tribes setup DROGS NEWS After 49 appearances for the club and an average performance rating approaching 7.50 Brad Friedel has moved on. Wolfcatt paid tribute to the American goalkeeper stating that he was probably one of his best signings for the club but it was felt that it was best he moved on as a new keeper was being sought and at his age Friedel needs regular first team football. This morning the club revealed the signing of Shay Given with Friedel and Darren Potter moving to Tyneside along with a cheque for £3,550,000. Wolfcatt said he was delighted to bring Eire's number one back to play in his home country and was sure he will be a popular signing with the club's fans. It's not clear yet if he will make his debut in tomorrow nights cup tie away to Hamilton.
  16. Re: English Championship 1 Since taking over at Molineux a few days ago with the brief to rebuild the squad with younger players Wolfcatt has had a busy weekend bringing in 7 players and showing the door to six more which has resulted in the average age of the squad reduced from 31 to 26. Three players have joined as free agents: Kyle Lafferty - £1.6m Saban Ozdogan - £30,000 Andranik Teymourian - £3.6m The following three players were signed for a total cash outlay of £2.6mil plus the six players in part ex: Grant Leadbitter Nedum Onuoha Gabriel Obertan. Wolfcatt also made a flying visit to Auxerre over the weekend to clinch the signing of Benjani Mwaruwari for £6.2m. Wolfcatt said these signings had been made with the long term interests of the club in mind as he had inherited a largely ageing squad. Benjani had been signed to lead the attack in the coming season as the other four strikers on the books have an average age of 19. He also went on to say that he felt all seven signings have the potential to have increases in their ratings. He was now on the look out to sign a defender possibly on loan.
  17. Re: English Championship 1 Wolfcatt takes over at Wolverhampton Wanderers after the Brentford Chairman gave them permission to offer him the vacancy at Molineux. Wolfcatt said it was an honour to be given the opportunity to manage the club he had always supported and he thanked the Brentford Chairman for allowing him to move on. Wolfcatt went on to say that he had a difficult job in front of him as he had inherited a largely ageing squad with 13 of the 17 first team squad being aged over 30. His first task was going to be to try and revamp his squad with the limited funds that have been made available.
  18. Re: $$££ Millionaires Row Wolfcatt is the new Manager of the Kaiser Chiefs (the Football Club not the Band!!). After taking only 30 minutes to agree a contract yesterday with the Club President there then followed a much longer meeting which involved agreeing the transfer funds to be made available and the transfer policy to be pursued. This morning the clubs press officer announced that deals had been concluded that would see 7 players signing for the club for an overall outlay of £35 million plus 5 players leaving the club. The players who signed overnight are: KARIM BENZEMA YOSSI BENAYOUN MARK NOBLE FREDDY GUARIN BEN FOSTER SANTIAGO TANQUE SILVA JASON DEMETRIOU The press release finished by saying that further signings are expected before the season starts as Wolfcatt still has funds at his disposal.
  19. Re: Battle of the tribes setup Kev Having thought about this for a while I think we need to keep true to the title of the setup. That being the case I think a maximum of five foreigners per squad should be allowed irrespective of their rating. This would solve the problem of having a minimum of six home grown players in the starting line up. I also think that that the maximum rating for a homegrown player at the start of each season should be 85. If you are lucky enough to have a homegrown player whose rating increases above 85 during the season that is your good fortune and you shouldn't have to sell him until the end of that season. Anyway that's my considered opinion but at the end of the day it is your setup!!
  20. Re: Battle of the tribes setup Kev Regarding option two are we keeping the 6 home player rule? Or is the suggestion only five 85+ players in a squad irrespective of their nationality? The reason I ask is in my squad I have more than 5 non Irish players but some have ratings less than 85. Sorry to ask what may seem fairly obvious questions but having read suggestion two several times and I'm not clear on the suggestions.
  21. Re: the rivals You forgot Birminghams 2-1 away win at Villa Park!!!!!!!!!
  22. Re: Chairman Unhappy Spot on. They might be a similar rating but with a big difference in their ages you are going to have to put up money as well as Parker to get Huddlestone. Check what your Cheif Executive advises as a minnimum amount you will need to pay to get Huddlestone and don't forget as a rule they accept around 75% of the players value used in the part ex towards the deal.
  23. Re: the rivals Birmingham opened their home campaign on Wednesday night when they welcomed Manchester United to St Andrews. After the opening day defeat at Chelsea Wolfcatt gave debuts to all three of his new signings but still kept faith with the formation and tactics that he had employed at Stamford Bridge. The first half was an even game with both sides wasting useful chances in front of goal. There were no changes made at half time but as the second half went on Birmingham were starting to dominate possession and in the 61st Minute Martin Palermo scord on his debut heading in at a corner. Birmingham's joy was short lived though as Man Utd equalised just a minute later through Patrice Evra when he lobbed Coupet in goal. Both sides then had chances to win the game but Birmingham scored the decisive goal in the 82 minute through another headed goal this time from Damian Johnson. Wolfcatt said after the game it was obvious the class that the new signings had added to his team and he felt a bit more encouraged about the season than he had after the Chelsea game. He went on to say he had money to spend in the transfer market and he was hopeful of making a signing shortly.
  24. Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread Gretna manager Wolfcatt was a relieved man after his side only secured their first division status with a win on the last day of the season. Wolfcatt said a disastrous run of results in the second half of the season nearly resulted in relegation for his side and with the retirement of club captain and star player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer there was a cloud of despondency hanging over the club and supporters despite the last day reprieve. With this in mind and with the backing of the Chairman Wolfcatt has gone out and secured the signings of two young rising stars, Stevan Jovetic & Sherman Cardenas. These two signings have brought the spark back into the club. Wolfcatt was stated as saying their combined ages was still less than the age of veteran striker Dean Windass. (It's also rumored that he said their combined weight was less than Dean's as well ) Wolfcatt has stated that he is in the market for a defender but will probably look to bring in a more experienced player with the funds he still has available.
