A midfielder with good vision and a penchant for set-pieces, Magnus Eikrem made the step up from Academy to Reserves football look easy.
The young Norwegian arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2006 from FK Molde after first being spotted at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's soccer school. He immediately made an impression in the United U18 side and in 2008/09 was rewarded with 20 appearances for the Reserves. He netted twice that season, including a spectacular free-kick against Middlesbrough that proved the only goal of the game.
Afterwards, Solskjaer told MUTV: "We know Magnus is a talented player. I've known him since he was 12 years of age and of course I'm very, very pleased for him when he scores goals like this.
"He practices them all the time, every single day in training sessions, so when he gets the reward of the winning goal it's great for him."
Now a regular for the Reds' second-string, Eikrem will hope he can continue to impress the club's coaching staff and perhaps gain a first-team call-up in 2009/10 after being given the no.42 shirt in September 2009. He certainly has the ability and potential to succeed.
