Re: Gold Championship 169

I had a dire start to the season (lost my first 6 league games) and to finish only 9 points behind the eventual champions isn't something im ashamed of. Confident that with a better start next season we can win the league outright. Before that though we have the small matter of the SMFA Shield Final against French rivals Lille next Monday.

Modena Fall Short Again

For the second season in a row Italian division 2 promotion hopefuls Modena miss out on promotion. With a 3rd place finish in the league again, Modena had to face the play offs again for the chance to join the Italian top flight!

Modena played Livorno in the first play off semi final and went crashing out with a 2-1 loss.

The manager said "we were favorites to win the play offs and went into the game too confident, not respecting Livorno cost us. I wish them well in their play off final and have a lot to work on with the team for next season."

Modena had another solid season in division 2 but could not quite meet the same level as the top 2.

Players that played a big part for Modena this season:

Goalkeeper:

SÁNCHEZ, Liborio

The Mexican goalkeeper joined Modena from Bologna for a sum of 2.8 million at the start of the season and became the manager's number one choice in goal. Sanchez returned his managers belief in him with many outstanding performances in goal through out the season, remaining Modenas number 1 for next season.

GLIK, Kamil

Polish defender joined from Olympiacos for 3.7 million

FININHO, Vinícius

Brazilian left full back joined from Metalist for 3.6 million

and Serbian right back VILOTIĆ, Milan

quickly became the first choice back 4 and along with Sanchez between the posts showed fine defending form.

Midfielders:

PAROLO, Marco

The Italian midfielder joined from Hanover for 4.6 million and quickly became Modena's midfield general, quality in attack and defence and the teams captain.

English midfielder PUNCHEON, Jason also joinded later in the season and followed thew fine example set with 8 assists in 16 games.

Forwards:

With a long term injury to KWEUKE, Léonard meant Modena were light up front so in came Argentinian veteran goal scorer CAVENAGHI, Fernando who managed 12 goals and 8 assists in his 28 games of the season for Modena

but the season was all about Colombian forward URIBE, Fernando who for a second season running became unstopable up front for Modena bettering his fine performance from last season Uribe manged 35 goals in 35 appearances for his team making him the division 2 golden boot winner, scoring 10 more than anyone else in the league.
