The Sky Blues see £2.3M bid accepted for there second England Veteran.

Owen.jpg

Michael Owen is set to sign for the West Midland's Outfit.

"We are naturally pleased to sign such a high profile player at a club like Coventry City, we are hoping David (Beckham) and Michael (Owen) will be able to spark great team leadership within the squad. David has settled in well so far, he is training with Danny Ings on free kicks and corners. Michael will be a crucial man up front for us here when David N'gog leaves us for pastures new. I would just like to finish by saying Beckham and Owen are priceless assets for us."
"There will be more signing's, but we still need to negotiate further not only on prices but also on players terms of contract."

Training ground bust up spells the end for Herrmann

Patrick Herrmann has recently been transfer listed by Barnsley due to a training ground bust up between player and manager. Herrmann had become increasingly frustrated with a lack of first team football and his frustrations boiled over in training when he was asked to train with the 2nd team. Furious Herrmann then reportedly launched a scathing verbal attack on manager James Myers calling him a 'bacon' and also reports suggest he spat on a coach. the club have transfer listed him at £8.5million and a bid has already been submitted by Bolton Wanderers believed to be £9million, the club however, are giving other clubs the opportunity to express their interest and are in no rush to offload the player, despite his outburst.

Match Preview: Barnsley vs Sheffield Utd @Oakwell

Wednesday 6th June 2012 - KO 8pm

716.png vs 687.png

Barnsley take on South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Utd at Oakwell tonight and start as big underdogs in this tie. Barnsley's recent form has been for lack of a better word, indifferent, with 2 wins, 2 draws & 2 losses in their last 6 and will find it tough going against a Sheffield Utd side who have taken 13 points from their last 6 games. One positive for Barnsley however is they have conceded the least amount of goals so far this term conceding just 15 in 17, on the flipside though, they have only found the back of the net 24 times in 17 with Roberto Soldado leading the line netting 7 times. The Barnsley manager will be looking to Ander Herrera, Theo Walcott and stalwart Ryan Giggs to provide the service that Roberto Soldado deserves.

Sheffield Utd on the other hand boast an attack that anybody would give their left arm for in the form of Mario Gomez, Edin Dzeko, Luis Nani and Shinji Kagawa. they will be hoping their fine form continues against their South Yorkshire counterparts.

Match Report: Barnsley vs Sheffield Utd @Oakwell

Wednesday 6th June 2012 - KO 8pm

716.png0 - 2687.png

Barnsley welcomed a strong, in form side in Sheffield Utd last night in front of a near capacity crowd and were punished for not taking their chances right from the get go. Mario Gomez netted on 7 minutes after Barnsley failed to clear a corner and Gomez struck a half volley into the roof of the net. Barnsley's failure to deal with corners became apparent again when Mario Gomez scored his 2nd of the night by heading home emphatically from a Mauricio Isla corner, the on-loan Manchester Utd midfielder grabbing both assists. After a shock & awe start from Sheffield Utd things quietened down and Barnsley enjoyed good possession and created plenty of chances throughout the game but their finishing let them down and failed to score again for the 3rd game in a row. Joao Moutinho hit the crossbar on 61 minutes as Sheffield Utd's chances dried up. Man of the Match went to the outstanding Gomez as expected. The defeat leaves Barnsley in 9th and hoping that this dip in form is only temporary.

More deals struck in the Midlands.

West Midlands club Coventry City strike two more big deals.

Gallas.jpg

Former French international William Gallas makes his 6th club transfer of his career, this time he leaves London after winding up various London club fans. He started his disloyalty at Chelsea by moving to Arsenal where he eventually snubbed them four years later by moving to white hart lane with Spurs.

This time he makes his move to a lower profile club at Coventry City, where it is thought he will partner Salcido at the back.

Diarra.jpg

Mahamadou Diarra is also due to join the Sky Blues in midfield, it is thought he will be partnering Beckham in midfield, until the manager can get a new CM to partner Diarra so Beckham can then move to his favored right side position. The deal is thought to be in the region of £5M. Diarra could be a great signing for City, he hasn't had a very long period with Fulham this season but Martin Jol was prepared to extend his contract to next year, but luckily for Coventry Diarra favored the move further north.

So far the manager has made his challenge clear, to build a strong promotion pushing team, and with marque signings like Bas Dost, Beckham, Owen, Gallas and Diarra plus various promising players, he is well on his way to the target of a strong experienced squad.

Match Preview

Southend United (4/5) v Bolton Wanderes (11/4)

With this being the first meeting between the sides in 3 seasons, Southend will be looking to continue their unbeaten run against an over-achieving Bolton side.

Having not lost in 15 league matches, Southend's hot streak will hope to continue and 'should' prove to be too hot to handle against an average Bolton side.

With Falcao leading the goal-scoring charts, hes favourite to net the opener with inform Alexis Sanchez also heavily fancied.

Southend report no new injury worries, just David Silva who is still on the sidelines for a few more weeks.

The Southend Manager had this to say: David has begun light training and were just going to ease him into it, hopefully he will become fully fit asap but were not going to rush him as of yet.

When asked about the Bolton manager, the shrimpers boss had this to say: We dont like cheats and cheaters never win, so hopefully Southend will put Bolton and their bacon of a manager in their place.

Build up will start from 7pm Saturday, again with Keys & Gray providing the match build up.

Reading Chairman offers Barnsley manager the hot seat at Reading

Reading have offered James Myers the managerial position this morning and the Barnsley manager instantly rejected the offer, saying that; "I am fully committed to the project me and my coaching staff are undertaking at Barnsley", pledging his future to the club. This is manager James Myers' 2nd stint in charge of The Tykes as he first took charge at the start of 2008 all the way through to the end of 2009. He rejoined the club late 2011 after a 2 year sabbatical, which included a brief spell at Wolves. He was urged out of retirement by Southend Utd manager Ben Rothery and steered Barnsley to the play-offs in season 12 but narrowly missing out on promotion, to then being runners-up in Division 2. He started his Barnsley career in Division 3.

Asamoah Bid Rejected

Udinese have had a bid of 16 million rejected by Barnsley for central midfielder, Kwadwo Asamoa. One of my stellar buys from my first reign in charge, signed for just £400k rated just 75 and is now 90, at 23 still has a massive future ahead of him.

Shrimpers boss gives Benzema the boot

Southend Uniteds man in charge has slated Karim Benzema in a recent press conference. A known transfer target for the London club told the manager he wanted a move across London from rivals Chelsea, but with Chelsea driving a hard bargain the United boss had made his views apparent. "no one messes with my team, no one is bigger than my team" this has lead the public to believe that Benzemas future lies with the Blues for now.

The rumours were on Twitter was that Benzema was found crying behind the bike sheds because he wanted to play in the better team...

In other news:

If the Shrimpers striker Danny Welbeck has a good Euro tournament, he could be recalled to the strike force next season.

Match Preview: Aston Villa vs Barnsley @Villa Park

Saturday 9th June - KO 8pm

665.png vs 716.png

Tonight Aston Villa entertain Barnsley at Villa Park and Barnsley will be desperate to at least get on the score sheet, after 3 consecutive games without scoring. To add to their worries, top scorer Roberto Soldado is out for 2 games with a foot injury. Leandro Damiao replaces the injured striker. On paper the Aston Villa side has much more class but the league positions tell a different story. Also, Villa have only won 1 game in their last 6. Last time out they drew 1-1 with a strong Leeds side. Barnsley have made 2 more changes in replacing Mathijsen with Lescott at Centre Back and Herrera with Asamoah at CAM.

The Barnsley manager had this to say earlier; "It will be a tough game but the lads know they have the ability to beat the better teams and are extremely pumped up for this"

Player to watch: Giavanildo Hulk (AST)

An excellent 3-0 win for Sheffield Wednesday against Wigan gives us 3 points and keeps us fifth in Division 2, in the hunt for a promotion place this season. I'll see most of you in Division 1. Hopefully.

Bit disapointed with the result tonight, 1-1 at home to Wrexham, feel its a match we should have won, on a brighter note my transfers are working out well signing Owen the other day and he score his first goal on his debut tonight.

In other news we have managed to sign Everton's Nikita Jelavic, another great player who was in brilliant form for the end of the premier league season. Hoping he can take it into the Euros...

Match Report: Aston Villa vs Barnsley @Villa Park

Saturday 9th June - KO 8pm

665.png1-0 716.png

Another poor display of finishing from Barnsley who suffered another defeat at the hands of Aston Villa. The 4th game in succession the South Yorkshire outfit haven't scored and is becoming a worry for the manager. Barnsley created plenty of chances but didn't take any of them and went down to a 5th minute goal from Iker Muniain. The Barnsley manager refused to comment as he is furious.

Man of the Match-Kevin Gameiro

Match Preview: English Shield Round 4

Hartlepool United vs Barnsley @Victoria Park

Monday 11th June - KO 8pm

Barnsley head North to face Hartlepool in this English Shield 4th round tie. Not looking forward to this as my team CANNOT score. However, with only having 21 players Hartlepools options may be limited. Barnsley will be hoping to cause an upset tonight!

Sadly not in the Cup or Shield this season, just the Division to concentrate on for now, can't be a bad thing really less chance of fatigue and injuries more chance of pushing to promotion.
